Honoring the Refined Men of Mount Juliet There are so many incredible fathers, uncles, and grandfathers that make up the community of Mount Juliet! Around here I’m surrounded by girl dads! Being the middle of three sisters, and mother of two girls now, we have so much fun pampering the men in our lives! Taking a minute to celebrate and reflect on fatherhood and all that it means to be a leader within your family and your community is so well deserved. We got to sit down with Harold Landry this month while he shared his touch on fatherhood and being family-focused with his busy career as the outside linebacker for the Titans. Dr. Richie, an Orthopedic surgeon of Hughston Orthopaedics shared his miracle story of his daughter Harper and how his three children and wife are his entire world. Also, be sure to stop and learn more about some very “refined” men of Wilson County Lastly, look for a special recipe included this month, carefully crafted by a local gentleman. Enjoy!

Mayor Hutto Randall Hutto is a lifelong resident of Wilson County. Growing up in Watertown, he attended Watertown Elementary and graduated from Watertown High School. Randall earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 1984 and would continue his education with a master’s plus 30 degrees in Education from Trevecca Nazarene College. He began his career in education at Lebanon High School in 1984, teaching U.S. History, Math, and Physical Education. During his tenure at Lebanon High, he utilized his passion for young people and athletics as an assistant varsity football coach for 18 years. He led the Blue Devils Boys’ Varsity Basketball team as head coach for 12 years. After an 18-year career at Lebanon High School, Randall accepted the opportunity to serve as Assistant Director of Schools for the Lebanon Special School District in 2003. Randall began a new and challenging career in September of 2010 when the citizens of Wilson County elected him to serve as Wilson County Mayor. Randall has three children, Alex, Megan, and Brett, one grandson, Jack, and another grandson on the way. Randall is a member of Lebanon, Mt. Juliet, and Watertown Chambers of Commerce and an active member of the Lebanon Breakfast Rotary Club.

Jimmy is a proud native of Wilson County, where he graduated from Lebanon High School. He attended the University of Georgia, where he played baseball for two years, then completed his studies and graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a biology and psychology degree. Following undergrad, Jimmy worked for the Tennessee Department of Health while also completing his legal education at the Nashville School of Law, graduating with honors in 2002. Jimmy is a member of the Lebanon Breakfast Rotary Club, the Tennessee Sheriffs’ Association, the Lebanon/ Wilson County Chamber of Commerce, and the 15th Judicial District Bar Association. He was a 2006 graduate of Leadership Wilson County. Jimmy practices law with Lee & Lee Attorneys at Law, P.C. in Lebanon, where his focus is litigation involving business and corporate matters, creditors’ rights, real estate, and probate. In

December 2007, he began his service as an assistant district attorney general in the 15th Judicial District. Since that time, he has prosecuted thousands of cases, including violent crimes, white-collar crimes, and others. In 2020, he was privileged to be named Deputy District Attorney General and remained in that position until his appointment to the bench. Jimmy was appointed as Judge of Division II, Wilson County General Sessions Court, by the Wilson County Commission on October 18, 2021. He and his family attend First United Methodist Church. They believe it is essential to support civic and charitable organizations throughout our community. His wife, Maggie, runs a successful small business providing passionate care and support to the elderly, and their son Spencer spends his days hard at work in school and enjoying time with friends.

Patrick Robinson

It was 2010, and a new app called Instagram quickly became popular amongst teens. Patrick Robinson soon became obsessed with trying to gain the filter aesthetic without the app and took to film photography. Fast forward ten years, a few different jobs, cameras, and always shooting as a side hustle for friends and family. Patrick decided to hop off the corporate ladder and pursue his once side hustle as a full-time gig. His company, Relive Studio, focuses on producing content for businesses and influencers alike. His company is currently booming and is almost exclusively referral-based. With two beautiful daughters (ages 6 and 4) and a stunning wife cheering him on, he has never been happier and loves living in Mount Juliet. www.relive.studio/

Dr. David Snodgrass

Dr. Snodgrass grew up in Gate City, VA, and Kingsport, TN. After gaining a musical scholarship to attend college, Dr. Snodgrass took a detour and dropped out to enlist in the U.S. Army Reserve, where he proudly served eight years. In 1970 he went to work for Mason Dixon Truck Lines as a special equipment coordinator. Dr. Snodgrass continued his love for music, playing trumpet for his band, The Castaways. After the economic downturn of 1976, Dr. Snodgrass was laid off from his job and decided to re-enroll in college. Dr. Snodgrass eventually earned his Doctorate in Dental Surgery from the University of Tennessee in 1984. Dr. Snodgrass did not let all of his triumphs stop him from his accomplishments. After Dr. Snodgrass finished school, he met his wife, Melody. They eventually opened their first practice in Hermitage, TN becoming the first multi-specialty practice in Tennessee and starting with seven patience to 40,000 in 4 different locations. Dr. Snodgrass partnered with his good friend’s son, Dr. Terry King, as they grew into multiple locations. Another busy morning at Hughtson Clinic Orthopaedics meant that Dr. Richie could be seen seamlessly flowing in and out of each patient's doorway with the same gentle smile. The day’s urgency was no match for Dr. Richie and his team. After speaking with him for a few moments, it didn't take long to understand exactly where he gets the motivation to serve our community through his remarkable insight and a firm grasp on the world of orthopedics and sports medicine. Dr. Richie grew up in Dayton, Ohio, and became the first person in his family to go to college. He graduated from the University of Miami in Oxford, Ohio, and went on to study medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He then completed his residency at Michigan State University. "I knew I wanted to concentrate on sports medicine and be the expert," he explained. After residency, Dr. Richie chose an elective fellowship back at Cincinnati, where he had the unique experience of getting to work one-on-one with the players of the Cincinnati Reds Major League Baseball team. His experience with the Reds awarded him an opportunity to learn amongst the team and continue to sharpen his skills while on the field and in the dugouts of every game. After being presented with an opportunity to serve the Nashville area, Dr. Richie and his wife decided to move from Ohio to Tennessee and put down their roots in Mount Juliet. Dr. Richie is notably a family man. He, his wife, and three children use their free time to enjoy all that Nashville offers. From symphonies to Preds games, they take pleasure in being a part of this one-ofa-kind town. For now, the Richie’s mostly enjoy cheering on their oldest son, Parker (five), during his t-ball games. Dr. Richie has also established himself as the team physician for the athletic department at Mount Juliet High School. "I'm on the ballfield with the Mount Juliet football team every Friday," he proudly stated. In addition to his roles as a local orthopedic surgeon at Hughston Clinic Orthopaedics and as a team physician for the Mount Juliet High School athletes, Dr. Richie continues to set his sights on growth. "I want to offer services that not everybody else can." He pointed out, "People honestly trust their livelihood and their life with me, and I take that very seriously." He carefully

explained that sports medicine is not limited to athletes. Most of his patients can be found on either side of that spectrum, whether it be someone of toddler age or the weekend warrior in their sixties just wanting to get back to doing what they love most. Dr. Richie's inherent curiosity surrounding injuries and how people recover from those injuries is a constant driving factor in his desire to continue meeting the boundaries of sports medicine and orthopedics. At the heart of Dr. Richie's story lies his own experience in putting the life of his newest family member in the hands of physicians. Last year at only five days old, his daughter, Piper, underwent life-saving open-heart surgery at Vanderbilt due to a serious heart condition she was born with. The Richie family suddenly found themselves residing at a children's hospital for nearly forty days while Piper began her recovery from her very dramatic start to life. With all of their family back in Ohio, it started to sink in

that they were alone in the city they had made their home. But Mount Juliet did what they do best, and they came together for the man who has been there for their families in times of need. "Somebody from the community was bringing my family dinners every single night," he stated. "We didn't know we had anybody down here, but everybody came together." When he was able to return to the football field at Mount Juliet, the players welcomed Dr. Richie with the initials "P.R." (Piper Richie) placed on the back of each of their helmets. "We love this community; we are forever and ever grateful," he boasted. Dr. Richie came to Nashville for a new start and to grow his family. Our community gained an invaluable pillar of care and ambition, while he gained a particular kinship with those he calls friends and neighbors. And if you live in Mount Juliet, there’s a chance you’ve bumped into him around town. His name is Harold Landry. And Landry is the 6’2”, 252lb, 25-year-old outside linebacker who might just help the Titans win their first-ever Super Bowl. The Titans certainly think so because, on March 8, 2022, they inked a five-year contract extension with Landry totaling $87.5 million. In addition to being one of the most promising football players in the NFL, Landry is also an all-around good guy. While you can easily Google his football stats, we'd like to take a different direction and introduce you to the father, husband, and neighbor Harold. As a dedicated husband and father, how do you spend quality time with your family while juggling the grueling practice, game, and travel schedule? It’s really tough to spend actual quality time with my family during the season. I have to make every little moment count, even if it’s just relying on FaceTime calls throughout the day when I’m not busy. I would say dinner time is the only consistent moment Danielle, the kids, and I have together throughout the week, so I try and take advantage of that time. Tennesseans are thrilled to have you back with the Titans as a key part of their pass rush. When you found out you were coming back to Tennessee, what factors helped you decide to settle in Mt. Juliet? When I got drafted here four years ago, we realized Mount Juliet had everything we wanted. We found a welcoming and friendly community that our oldest son loved. It was away from Nashville but still a decent driving distance, and we felt our money would go further for us in Mount Juliet than in other cities. This past offseason, my family spent some time on a lake in North Carolina, and we realized we would love living on a lake. So this past season, we bought our new house on Old Hickory Lake in Mount Juliet. And once again, we found a great family community where we’re looking forward to raising our family. You’ve been quoted saying that you want to be with the Titans because of the great culture. As a husband and father, what are some of the ways you set the tone and influence the culture in your home? Culture at our house is about being grateful for everything we have. We are extremely blessed, and I thank God every day for the life I get to live. Danielle and I try to teach our

kids to be thankful for everything. We also try to live through God and our faith. Don’t get me wrong. We are far from perfect. But I’d like to think we live by the values and lifestyle God would want for us. Last, I believe it is important for my kids to know that hard work works. If they develop mental toughness, discipline, and work ethic, they can be whatever they want. No dream is too big. In addition to being a leader on the football field, you’re a man of God, an adoring husband, and a loving father. What advice would you give husbands and fathers about leading their families? I would tell husbands and fathers leading their families that you’re not perfect. No man is. But you should actively and consciously try to be the example of what you preach. If you preach hard work, make sure your family sees you working hard. If you preach respect, make sure you’re always respectful. Kids are sponges; they absorb everything. You also want your wife to admire and respect the man you are, so it’s important you’re trying your hardest to do the right things. Who was your greatest role model growing up, and who is your greatest role model now? My greatest role model growing up was my dad. He was a man of faith and a man I never saw complain about life even though he didn’t have much. To this day, I try to make dad proud. I couldn’t have asked for a better dad. My role model today is probably God because I try to live through his eyes. What are a few ways that playing professional football has made you a better man off the field?Football has taught me so many life lessons. Without football, my life would be completely different. Football has taught me I’m not entitled to anything in this world. If you want something, you have to go out and earn it. It’s taught me life isn’t fair as soon as you understand that you’re a step closer to success. It’s taught me sometimes you have to make sacrifices to help friends. It’s taught me no matter how different a person’s background might be; it’s still possible to become best friends. It taught me that you have to have unbreakable self-confidence to be successful. DIRECTIONS Combine bourbon or rye whiskey, simple syrup, and Black Walnut Bitters in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake for about 20 seconds with ice, and then strain in a whiskey glass with one large ice cube. detours Dr. David Snodgrass Shares His Story To Inspire Others

Sometimes life’s journey has unexpected detours that can be blessings if you just look for the opportunity in the adversity. Pediatric dentist, Dr. David Snodgrass has chosen to look for those opportunities when faced with adversity throughout his personal life and career. Snodgrass-King is one of the country’s largest multi-specialty dental practices, typically seeing 40,000+ patients a year in their four offices. What you may not know is Dr. Snodgrass’s journey to dentistry did not come without detours. He grew up modestly in Gate City, Virginia, and Kingsport, Tennessee with his cousin, Mary Louise, living next door. She was often mocked and picked on due to a rare birth defect. From a very young age, Dr. Snodgrass became aware of how those with differing needs were viewed and treated unfairly. His experiences with Mary Louise shaped him into the man he is today - a compassionate champion for individuals with differing abilities - where they are seen as equals, where time and attention are freely given, and patience, grace, and understanding are always extended. Dr. Snodgrass was awarded a music scholarship to attend college, but his first detour, poor grades because of a lack of motivation, ultimately led to leaving college and enlisting in the U.S. Army Reserve where he proudly served for eight years. In 1970, he went to work at Mason Dixon Truck Lines as a special equipment coordinator. In the evenings and on the weekends he continued his love of music, playing trumpet alongside some of the best musicians in the industry and with his own band, The Castaways. His second detour occurred when he was laid off due to the economic downturn in 1976. He re-enrolled in college with more focus and a vision to become a pediatric dentist. He earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Tennessee in 1984, but not without another detour in the midst of his schooling. While in his second year of dental school, he witnessed a stranger being beaten “within an inch of his life.” Dr. Snodgrass grabbed the aggressor, but in doing so was injured, with one of the bullets striking him in the left temple. He lost vision in his left eye and was forced into a year long delay, but was determined that nothing was going to keep him from his dream of becoming a dentist. “Having vision in one eye has made me a better dentist and a better person. I would do it all again.” After he returned to school, he met his future wife, Melody, a surgical nurse at Baptist East Hospital. As chief resident during his second year of residency at Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, Dr. Snodgrass had two patients that left such an impact on him that he was determined to learn all he could about pediatric growth and development. To that end, while in his residency program, he simultaneously took a two-year course to learn orthodontics that led to the invention of the “Snodgrass Appliance.” This ultimately eliminated the need for pulling multiple teeth, as it offers the benefit of two appliances in one and is still used around the country 30 years later. Dr. Snodgrass and Melody opened their first office in Hermitage, Tennessee. Unlike other dentists who referred patients out for orthodontic work, Dr. Snodgrass incorporated orthodontics and general dentistry and became the first multi-specialty practice in Tennessee. From his first seven patients to today, Snodgrass-King sees over 40,000 patients a year and has treated over 3,500 cases of physically handicapped and medically compromised children under general anesthesia. Melody, newly retired from management of the practices, is also credited with

designing the office. “Our original 1,500 square foot office was so sterile and boring and I wondered, ‘Why?’ We are a pediatric dental office so let’s design this with kids in mind.” With their signature leopard print carpet, TVs mounted above each dental chair, arcade games, fish tanks, and at one time, a turquoise Harley Davidson in the waiting room, it is no wonder kids (and parents) want to come early for appointments. Melody was instrumental in the decision for Snodgrass-King to be the first dentist to advertise on television. Marking 35 years in practice last month, the Snodgrass-King philosophy has not changed - “If anyone is in pain, it doesn’t matter the time of the day, come in, and we will treat you.” Dr. Snodgrass has trained and mentored more than 100 dentists and dental assistants. One of those is Dr. Terry King. Terry’s dream was to practice alongside his father, Bill, also a pediatric dentist, and a close friend of Dr. Snodgrass. Unfortunately, Dr. William King passed away before the dream of a father/son practice could be realized. Dr. Snodgrass offered Terry, in his second year of residency, an opportunity to work alongside him in the Snodgrass Dental practice. Two years later, Dr. Terry King became a partner and the Snodgrass-King partnership was formed. Together the two have built, equipped, supplied, and staffed a dental clinic in Haiti since 2006. Drs. Snodgrass and King have taken medical teams of 15-20 staff members to Haiti and the Dominican Republic where they supplied and ran a free dental clinic. “When we finished building our clinic, we shipped and donated dental equipment and supplies to other dentists in Haiti. And every time we revisited our clinic, we resupplied theirs. By doing this we built up a long-lasting trust.” A valued lecturer and mentor, multiple-journal-published author and former assistant clinical professor at both Vanderbilt and Meharry Medical College, School of Dentistry, Dr. Snodgrass still finds the most joy in giving kids a smile. “I always want to be more than just a dentist to my patients.” He treasures letters from patients and parents thanking him for work he has done, wisdom he has shared, and smiles he has saved. When asked if he plans to slow down or retire, Dr. Snodgrass, a father of three, grandfather to two with another on the way, laughs “Why would I stop doing what I love? I like going to work. God has blessed us in every single way.” Many of his staff agree as many have been loyal employees for 15 - 20 years. There will always be uncertainty in life, yet Dr. David Snodgrass would not change a thing. He has learned to embrace life’s detours and shares his story to inspire others.
