“The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.” ― St. Augustine. Tennessee is one of the most dynamic states in the country – the outdoor life is pretty incredible, especially as we head into Spring! I find myself awaiting the subtle warm nights when the lightning bugs start to magically appear. We are just a short drive away from many different climates and destinations and home to the most beautiful sunsets. We hope you get inspired by the many different takes on exploring this month! From a wintery getaway to the beautiful mountains of Lake Tahoe to the local bourbon trails throughout Tennessee to Kentucky, there are endless ways to explore and adventure. When we were looking for a cover photo for our first launch Issue of Mount Juliet Lifestyle, we stumbled upon this gorgeous photo of a sailboat drifting along on Percy Priest lake. It took us back, it made us feel hopeful and free, and more importantly, it brought a little peace to the chaos from the tornado and Covid brought to Mount Juliet! This photo led us to the “Adventures of Matt and Nat,” who captured the image for our May 2021 launch Issue. Since 2020 they have traveled to all 50 states, capturing informational and entertaining vlogs for their followers on each trip! We brought their story full circle this month by digging into their adventures and learning about all the unique places they have explored! From Paris to New York, get ready for some eye candy! We all love staycations, and Nashville puts many cities to shame with the variety of options there are! DISCOVERING THE WORLD ONE TRIP AT A TIME

If you have ever wondered what it's like to have bear repellent in your nether regions, don't worry, you don't have to. Matt and Nat, founders of the YouTube channel Adventures of Matt and Nat, captured this unfortunate but hilarious experience on video while documenting one of their undertakings in Alaska's Denali Park. In 2021 while others were navigating how to go to the grocery store, these two successfully fulfilled their goal to visit all fifty states in one calendar year. Matt and Natalie, two full-time musicians from South Carolina and Florida, met in the capital city of music, Nashville, while following their dreams as singer-songwriters in Country and Christian music. It was love at first flight. And, after five years of a long-distance relationship, they closed the gap and married.

Little did they know the difficulties of navigating a long-distance relationship would be nothing compared to the even more significant challenge of the music industry's response to COVID-19. Like many, they found themselves out of work and reprioritizing what mattered most. As terrible as 2020 was for so many, it allowed Matt and Nat to hop off the hamster wheel of life long enough to reevaluate dreams, goals, and aspirations. Rather than getting locked down, they chose to open new doors. Being benevolent, entrepreneurial, and adventurous, they saw travel as the vehicle to support struggling local businesses by providing exposure, generating income, and living life to its fullest. Matt and Nat are not your typical travel bloggers posting videos on yachts and helicopters. Nat began working at a major airline to support their ambitions. While they have taken day trips across the country for a birthday lunch, other excursions have not been picture-perfect. One adventure included Matt sitting in a rental car for eight and half hours while Nat waited fourteen hours to get a standby seat. However, no matter the challenge, they always seem to make the best of it. Matt and Nat love discovering places, experiences, and cultures. They spend all their free time researching new locations, finding the most picture-perfect spots, the best food, once-in-a-lifetime experiences, and more. They explore, so you don't have to, with the hopes that their photos, videos, blogs, and travel guides will inspire and encourage others to find their "more" through travel and adventure and make their pursuit easier. Nathan "Nearest" Green is the first African-American master distiller on record in the United States. After the Civil War, he taught Jack Daniel to make Tennessee whiskey and served as the first master distiller for the Jack Daniel Distillery as a free man. George A. Dickel was already an established Nashville merchant when he entered the whisky (spelled without an "e") business. So when Cascade Hollow Distillery was founded in 1878, George Dickel bought a significant share. The distillery did an end-run around the prohibition by marketing "Cascade Whisky" as a medicinal spirit, and, in 1958, a new distillery opened down the road. In 1964, the whisky emerged as Dickel Black Label Old No. 8 and Dickel Tan Label Superior No. 12. Visit georgedickel. com for more details.

Born in Germany, Charles Nelson moved to Nashville before the Civil War, eventually buying a distillery in Greenbrier, TN. By 1885, he was one of the first to market whiskey in bottles (vs. a barrel or jug), producing a massive volume for the time - 2 million. Prohibition forced closure and sale, leaving it disrepair and all but forgotten except for family lore. Then in 2009, Charles’ great-great-great grandsons Andy and Charlie reopened the business exactly 100 years after it closed. The distillery is home to Nelson Bros. Whiskey and Belle Meade bourbon.
