LIFESTYLE LETTER
Awaken That Inner Child Remember when you were a kid and exploring was basically on the to do list every day? It was so easy to branch out beyond your comfort zone. There was a certain joy and naivete in life. I don't believe those days have to end just because you grow up. Times might never be the same, but it never hurts to keep an open mind for exploration along with a childlike heart. July is our explore issue, and the Minneapolis Lakes team likes to encourage learning about new businesses, people, and ways to connect. Looking to make impactful changes in the community? Minneapolis Foundation talks about connecting donations with real organizations in need today. With so much to support, their organization can help guide and educate on where you might want to donate. Food is oftentimes the center of gathering and celebration. P.S. Steak has been serving up excellence for years. You can opt for light bites, drinks, and elegant ambiance in the lounge, or cozy up in the main dining room which feels like someone's well-curated home. The menu is amazing, but please do not leave without ordering the Aligot potatoes. They are a silky mix of mashed with fondue, and can be considered an experience all on their own. Making a vehicle purchase these days helps when you are dealing with a great team. Tami Willett, General Manager at Luther Westside VW in St. Louis Park, takes pride in the culture at Luther and her people - starting with unity, integrity and a passion for community. It's not only about what they do in the dealership world, but how they do it. For You. For Us. For Earth. This is the tagline behind Ryan Serafin's residential cleaning company Green and So Clean. Small and mighty, they strive for good communication, environmentally friendly products and a mission to deliver great results without compromising health. Obviously, there is so much to explore beyond the pages of this publication, but we hope these are stories you can share. "Exploration really is the essence of the human spirit." Frank Borman.

Susan: Ideally, serious retirement exploration usually starts in your 50s, with concrete decisions being made in your early
60s. However, it’s never too early to start this journey—especially if you’re aiming for early retirement or relocation. It’s one that takes careful planning, good communication, and consistent
saving throughout your life — starting with your very first job! And don’t be tempted to dip into those savings, even when you want to buy something really special. A good guide will keep you on
course, with consistent check-ins and a roadmap that steers you toward your retirement destination. Just like you dreamed.

P.S. STEAK ARTICLE BY SARAH KNIEFF PHOTOGRAPHY BY JO GARRISON
A New Chapter in a Storied Minneapolis Space
Located inside the historic 510 Groveland building in Minneapolis, P.S. Steak isn't just another steakhouse – it’s a love letter to the city’s culinary past and an innovative nod to its future. With a name that pays tribute to its predecessors and a space steeped in Twin Cities dining history, P.S. Steak is where legacy meets modern luxury. For those familiar with the lauded La Belle Vie, the space already carries weight. P.S. Co-owner and Chef Mike DeCamp spent a decade there, mastering French cuisine before transitioning into a broader leadership role with hospitality group Jester Concepts. According to fellow co-owner and Jester founder Brent Frederick, DeCamp was instrumental in securing the space when it became available in 2019, bringing both a personal connection and a deep understanding of its potential. “This was home for Mike,” says Frederick. “It just made sense that he would help write the next chapter here.” While the bones of the building remain – the elegant molding, terrazzo floors, and chandeliers – the team has carefully updated its aesthetic. The front lounge has been refreshed with marble tables, cozy chic seating, and live greenery that creates intimate vignettes throughout. In the main dining room, they added a softly glowing back bar and booths, striking a balance between old-world glamour and contemporary comfort. One major addition? A dry-aging meat cabinet on display – highlighting a commitment to in-house craft that sets P.S. Steak apart. “We might be the only steakhouse in the city dry-aging all of our beef in-house,” Frederick notes, underscoring one of many ways P.S. Steak breaks from tradition.

“JUST TELL US WHAT YOU LIKE, AND WE’LL TAKE CARE OF THE REST.” The menu is equally thoughtful. While classic cuts like filet and ribeye are available, the restaurant’s signature Denver steak, or Zabuton, is a standout – a rich, tender Wagyu-Black Angus blend served in five or ten-ounce portions. More adventurous cuts, such as tri-tip and picanha, add a level of creativity rarely found at conventional steakhouses. The kitchen also offers seasonal fish, lamb, and pasta options, alongside signature sides like ultra-creamy aligot potatoes and crispy hash browns. Even the meatballs – crafted from steak trimmings – show a dedication to flavor and sustainability. Then there's dessert. The Baked Alaska, with salted caramel ice cream and a flambéed meringue crown, is a theatrical and decadent experience. “It’s definitely a showstopper,” says Frederick. “It’s made for sharing—bring friends.” But the magic of P.S. Steak extends beyond the plate. The bar program leans progressive, offering rotating seasonal cocktails and a signature P.S. Old Fashioned. Bartenders are encouraged to create and customize drinks based on each guest’s preferences. “You don’t need to stick to the menu,” Frederick says. “Just tell us what you like, and we’ll take care of the rest.” The wine list, recently recognized by Wine Spectator, is curated by sommelier Morgan Hawley, and ranges from accessible favorites to lesser-known global gems, including Eastern European, South American, and small French producers. For those seeking a deeper dive, P.S. Steak offers cocktail classes, rare whisky tastings, and wine education events that blend education with indulgence. Each event includes thoughtful pairings and the chance to stay for Social Hour or dinner afterward. Private experiences are also available, as are full buyouts for special occasions – something the restaurant excels in. “We’ve become a place where people come to celebrate,” Frederick reflects. “Whether it’s a promotion, a birthday, or just a night out, we want it to feel special.” Above all, P.S. Steak is about legacy – not just honoring it, but living up to it. With deep community roots, from ongoing partnerships with Masonic Children’s Hospital to inclusive education initiatives, Jester Concepts sees hospitality as a force for good. “Our goal is to be part of Minneapolis history,” says Frederick. “La Belle Vie was iconic. We want P.S. Steak to be spoken of in the same breath – for our food, our service, and the memories we help create.” Valet parking is available, and reservations can be made at psmpls.com.

leading with heart Tami Willett's Journey as General Manager at Luther Westside In an industry traditionally dominated by men, Tami Willett has not only carved out a place for herself – she’s set a high standard for leadership and integrity. As the General Manager of Luther Westside Volkswagen in St. Louis Park, Willett brings over 26 years of experience in the automotive landscape, including 15 dedicated years at the Westside dealership. Her journey has been marked by growth, and an unwavering commitment to her team and customers. Willett’s entry into the car business was inspired by friends and family already working in the field. “The more they talked about it, the more intrigued I was,” she recalls. The fast pace and people-focused nature of the business appealed to her desire for a non-monotonous career. “There weren’t many women in the space, so I saw it as a fun challenge.” That mindset would carry her far. Beginning in car sales, Willett steadily climbed the ranks – moving into finance, then managing both new and used car departments. She eventually became a general sales manager and, later, the first female general manager in the Walser Automotive Group. That position took her to the prestigious NADA Dealer Academy in Washington, D.C., preparing her for senior leadership. After eight years with Walser, she transitioned to Luther Automotive, drawn by the company’s people-first values and long-standing reputation.

“My moral compass just aligned with Luther,” Willett says. “The tenure here is unbelievable – several employees have been with the company for over 30 or even 40 years. That says everything about the culture.” Willett’s leadership style is grounded and hands-on. “I’m a doer, not a delegator,” she explains. With a campus that spans two buildings, she gets her steps in daily – literally walking the floor, connecting with team members, and staying closely involved in operations. “I’ve done every job here,” she says. “It keeps me grounded and in tune with the day-to-day tasks of my staff.” This approach has fostered a collaborative and supportive workplace culture at Luther Westside Volkswagen. Willett emphasizes teamwork across the dealership’s traditionally siloed departments – new cars, used cars, service, and parts. “We’ve worked hard to tear down those silos,” she says. “It’s not about finger-pointing when something goes wrong – it’s about solving problems together for the customer.”
Tami Willett - General Manager
Mason, Joe, and Brandon
Her efforts are particularly visible in how she values the dealership’s service and parts teams – groups often working behind the scenes. “Service doesn’t get the glory,” Willett notes. “They’re in the heat, fixing broken cars, and often don’t get the emotional highs that come with a car sale.” With more than 60 employees in those departments, she’s made it a priority to celebrate their work just as much as the sales staff, including them in store events and company-wide recognitions. That sense of unity extends beyond operations. Willett takes pride in knowing her employees personally – learning about their families, hobbies, and even their pets. “We spend more
time here than we do with our families, so we should enjoy being here,” she says. “It’s about creating an atmosphere where we conduct serious business – but we do it with heart.” Beyond the showroom, Willett and her husband, Mike, find peace at their cabin in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin, where they enjoy long pontoon rides and time with their boxer dogs, Molly and Kane. The couple is deeply involved with local dog rescues, particularly the Minnesota Boxer Rescue, often hosting adoption and awareness events at the dealership. “We lost one of our dogs, Champ, recently,” Willett shares. “It’s been a tough adjustment, but our new rescue, Kane, keeps us on our toes.” She’s also a proud mother. Her daughter Dakota is an RN working with seniors – a career path Willett speaks of with admiration, noting the shared passion for caring and service that runs in the family. CONTINUED >

As for the future of the automotive industry, Willett is focused on electric vehicles (EVs). “We’ve jumped into EVs with both feet,” she says, noting that training, infrastructure, and customer education are key priorities as the market shifts. Consumer confidence may be volatile, but Willett believes in adapting and staying ahead of the curve. After more than two decades in the business, Tami Willett’s motivation remains simple yet powerful: creating an environment where people thrive. “We’ve worked hard to build a place where it’s more than just a job,” she says. “It’s a career, a community, and for many of us – a second home.” 2370 MN-100, St Louis Park | 952-377-4100 | westsidevw.com

HOW THE MINNEAPOLIS FOUNDATION IS MOBILIZING DONORS TO TURN IDLE FUNDS INTO COMMUNITY ACTION
PHOTOGRAPHY BY MINNEAPOLIS FOUNDATION
Across the country, more than $250 billion is sitting in Donor Advised Funds (DAFs)—money that has already earned donors a tax break but hasn't yet reached the very worthy communities and causes those donors care about. The Minneapolis Foundation is on a mission to change that. “DAFs are powerful philanthropic tools, but they’re only impactful if they’re being used,” says Chris Beach, Senior Vice President of Philanthropic Services at the Foundation. “We’re focused on helping donors move from intention to action—to be generous now, not just someday.” That’s the core message behind the Foundation’s new Give Advised campaign, which encourages DAF holders to take the next step: actually giving. “You probably got advice to earn that money,” the campaign declares. “Now get some to give it away.”
ACTIVATING DORMANT GENEROSITY
Unlike private foundations, which must distribute at least 5% of their assets each year, DAFs have no minimum payout requirement. That flexibility means many donors set aside funds with good intentions—but then leave them sitting idle, sometimes forgetting the money there or getting stuck in a giving rut, directing support to the same causes year after year without deeper engagement or reflection. The Minneapolis Foundation sees an opportunity to change that dynamic by making it easier, more rewarding, and more personal for donors to connect with pressing local needs, and by reminding donors that a DAF isn't a donation until it's spent. “We have a DAF problem," Beach explains. “They’re fantastic tools, but they’re underutilized. Too many institutions are sitting on these dollars without offering the kind of support donors need to turn giving into action. We’re changing that.” As part of its long-term vision, the Foundation is working to more than double the dollars invested in the community over the next 10 years. It’s an invitation for both current and future donors to be bold, recognizing that the time for transformational giving is now. CONTINUED >

GIVING WITH INSIGHT—AND IMPACT
A key part of the Foundation’s strategy is activating its philanthropic advisors to help individuals, couples, and families make the most of the “advised” part of Donor Advised Funds by clarifying what they care about and connecting them with organizations and opportunities that align with their goals. “This is a pivotal moment,” says Beach. “With so many urgent needs in our communities—housing, food access, youth opportunity—we’re helping donors get closer to the issues and be part of real solutions.” The nonprofit landscape is shifting rapidly, with policy and funding changes creating new challenges and opportunities to reimagine what’s next. That makes it more important than ever for donors to be agile, informed, and engaged—qualities the Foundation is uniquely positioned to support.
A NEW KIND OF SUPPORT
What makes the Minneapolis Foundation’s approach unique is not just its commitment to impact, but its commitment to more informed and connected donors. “We walk alongside our donors,” Beach says. “We listen deeply. We help them understand
32

what’s happening in the community and how their dollars can do the most good.” This approach includes hosting events, learning sessions, and facilitated conversations with nonprofit leaders and changemakers that help donors discover the possibilities and personal connections they crave. It also means offering flexible tools—from research and family philanthropy resources to impact investing and long-term legacy planning—to help donors and their families give with confidence and clarity. “Giving should feel meaningful. It should feel joyful,” says Beach. “And it should feel connected to something real.”
THE RALLYING CALL
The Foundation is not shy about asking donors to move resources off the sidelines. As one of the campaign ads declares, “A Donor Advised Fund is a philanthropic nest egg. Crack it.” “This is the time,” says Beach. “This money was set aside to help others. Let’s make sure it does.” Visit GiveAdvised.org to learn more.

Green and So Clean is a Twin Cities based cleaning company with a mission: delivering spotless results without compromising health -- or the planet. Specializing in residential and commercial cleaning, Green uses only natural, non-toxic products. Owner Ryan Serafin also focuses on consistency and community, ensuring customer satisfaction. The story behind Green and So Clean is filled with passion. Before taking over the business in 2019, Serafin had spent years working conventional nine-to-five jobs and dabbling in real estate. But he was drawn to something more meaningful and sustainable. “I’ve always been environmentally conscious,” Serafin explains. “When the opportunity came up to buy the business from a friend who was moving on, it felt like the right fit.” Though the company had a strong foundation, Serafin faced immediate challenges. “Right after I started, COVID hit. We lost a lot of clients and employees -- most of whom were parents -- had to stay home with their kids,” he says. What could have been a breaking point became an opportunity to reset. Serafin took on the cleanings himself, learning the business from the inside out and restructuring operations to better serve the local area rather than outlying suburbs.
“A LOT OF COMPANIES ARE PROMOTING GREEN PRODUCTS NOW, BUT WE ALSO FOCUS ON REUSABLES AND SOURCING ethically. IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT what WE CLEAN WITH, BUT how WE OPERATE.” CONTINUED >

From reusable mop heads and glass spray bottles to products sourced in bulk directly from sellers, every detail is designed to minimize waste. The team uses high-end, natural brands like Norwex and Doterra -- products so effective and safe, many clients choose to purchase them for personal use. The company’s ethos is captured in its tagline: For you. For us. For Earth. And while the eco-friendly approach is central, Serafin emphasizes that quality and customer experience are just as important. “A lot of companies are promoting green products now, but we also focus on reusables and sourcing ethically. It’s not just about what we clean with, but how we operate,” he says. Clients notice the difference. “What I hear over and over is how much people appreciate the consistency,” says Serafin. “They know who’s coming, when they’re coming, and that the job will be done right every time.” That reliability, combined with a highly personalized touch, has resulted in lasting client relationships -- some dating back to the company’s early days. Green and So Clean offers a comprehensive array of services. Residential cleanings include detailed attention to kitchens, bathrooms, living spaces, and bedrooms, with customizable plans based on individual preferences and budget. Commercial clients -- ranging from salons to small office spaces -- can count on a polished, hygienic environment that leaves a positive impression without exposing employees or customers to harsh chemicals. The process is simple but thorough: It starts with a complimentary consultation
“CLEANING DOESN’T HAVE TO COME AT THE expense OF OUR HEALTH OR OUR planet.” and walk-through, followed by a customized quote. After an initial deep clean, clients can choose a recurring schedule -weekly, biweekly, or monthly. Feedback is encouraged after every visit to ensure the highest satisfaction. Serafin is quick to point out that Green and So Clean isn’t a faceless franchise. “You’re not getting random people every week, and you’re not just leaving a check for someone with a trunk full of cleaning supplies,” he says. “We’re insured, professional, and personal. We offer that sweet spot between too big to care and too small to rely on.” As for what’s next, Serafin plans to continue growing his team and expanding services throughout the Minneapolis area, always with the environment and his clients at heart. “Cleaning doesn’t have to come at the expense of our health or our planet,” he says. “It can be done better -and we’re proving that every day.” To learn more or schedule a consultation, visit: greenandsoclean.com.
