LIFESTYLE LETTER

Grit, Glam & a Whole Lot of Style

September 2025 PUBLISHER

Michaela Hetherington michaela.hetherington@citylifestyle.com SAL E S D I R E C TO R

Y’all, this one’s special. As our annual Style Issue, this edition is all about expression—and what better way to bring that to life than with a little Western Glam? When we dreamed up the theme, we knew we wanted bold style, untamed beauty, and a little desert dust in the air. What we didn’t know was just how perfectly all of that would come together— thanks to a powerhouse team and one unforgettable Mesa bombshell: Sydnee Falkner. Sydnee brought so much more than beauty to the shoot—her smile is contagious, and her playlist of country tunes had my heart. We took to Royal Arabians in Mesa, where the horses and the family-owned team behind the scenes gave us a backdrop so striking, even the dust flew in on cue. Living in Arizona, we’re surrounded by a community that knows how to bring the glam. The men and women who call this city home are effortlessly stylish and always ready to have a little fun. Western Glam was the obvious choice for this issue—because it’s not just a theme, it’s who we are.

Q: DESCRIBE YOUR ST YLE. I can go from gym bro to runway ready, to beachy- boho. I used to sketch and design because I wanted to be a fashion designer. I’ve been reinventing my style, adding in pops of color, feminine touches, adding fun while keeping a classic style.

Q: WHAT ARE YOUR THREE MUST HAVES FOR ANY OUTFIT?

Tennis bracelet—I love to layer bracelets. A good high heel— think platform heels like five inches. And a really good attitude.

18

FASH ION F OR WA R D | STYLE + BE AU T Y

Q: WHO ARE YOUR ST YLE ICONS? WHO DO YOU LOOK TO FOR INSPIRATION? Hailey Bieber, Rihanna, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and my grandma.

Q: WHAT IS A LESSON YOU LEARNED FROM BEING AN OIL RIGGER THAT STILL IS APPLICABLE TODAY?

Hard work always pays off. Do things right the first time. You cannot make mistakes out there. I know how to do the hard jobs, like changing my garbage disposal.

Real people, real stories, and real conversations about wealth and abundance

Q: WHAT IS ONE THING YOU WISH MORE PEOPLE KNEW? It’s okay to be yourself. Who you are is amazing and fantastic. If we were all the same the world would be so boring. Whatever makes you, you—let that be enough and let that shine through.

Our owner and publisher, Michaela, caught up with Nekoda Frost, Client Advisor at Mavericks of Scottsdale, to chat about what makes this western-glam gem a standout in the heart of Old Town—and why it was the perfect pick for some of Mesa City Lifestyle’s key looks in this Style issue!

MAVERICK’S HAS SUCH A DISTINCTIVE VIBE—HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE STORE’S ST YLE IN THREE WORDS?

I would describe Maverick’s as; Luxurious, Western, and Timeless!

WHAT’S SOMETHING MOST LOCALS DON’T KNOW ABOUT MAVERICK’S THAT YOU WISH THEY DID?

A lot of locals think we are just boots and hats, but Mavericks as a whole, is so much more than that! We curate full head-to-toe looks that are quality and fashion-forward. With our selection of elevated brands like, Tecovas and America Hat Company, that blend Western heritage with more modern edge, we are just as much about luxury leathers and custom jewelry as we are about your favorite Western classics. MAVERICK'S CONTRIBUTED TO SOME OF THE KEY LOOKS IN OUR SYDNEE FALKNER ST YLE EDITORIAL—WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO BLEND TIMELESS WESTERN PIECES WITH MODERN-DAY FASHION?

I love to pair a traditional cowboy boot with an oversized blazer and cute mini-dress. It gives that modern silhouette that still touches on the beautiful western style we know and love!

A ST YLE STAPLE IN THE HEART OF OLD TOWN ARTICLE BY MICHAELA HETHERINGTON

Located in Old Town on Main Street, Mavericks of Scottsdale played a key role in styling our Western Glam shoot. Their standout pieces helped define the look of this year’s Style Issue.

WHEN DID YOU KNOW YOU WANTED TO BE AN INTERIOR DESIGNER?

When I moved into my first apartment. I always enjoyed creating a unique space. I enjoyed seeing fully designed spaces with all the intentional details that give a visual impact and wow factor.

E

T

U R O Y H E OM L Y

WHAT WAS YOUR CHILDHOOD LIKE? WERE YOU ALWAYS REDECORATING YOUR ROOM OR TRYING TO REARRANGE IT?

I was limited with my childhood room. However, in college I constantly updated my dorm room. I enjoyed creating my side of the room to be my own perfect escape. I loved adding color, making wall decor, and adding pictures of family and friends.

WHAT DOES “HOME” MEAN TO YOU?

Home is where I can relax, be comfortable, and be my authentic self.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TYPE OF ROOM TO DECORATE?

I love decorating a family room. I enjoy hosting and that is where people gather. So anytime someone wants to update their space to host parties I enjoy making it functional and beautiful. I also enjoy adding a unique conversation starter.

WHO ARE SOME DESIGNERS YOU LOOK TO FOR INSPIRATION?

Corey Jenkins, Libby Langdon, Celerie Kemble. They each have a unique and bold style.

WHAT ARE YOUR THREE KEY STYLE TIPS?

• Scale is so important in design. Make sure a piece fits the space especially when it comes to art. • Use greenery, it adds so much life to a space. • Mix and match metals!

WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO START WHEN YOU WANT TO CHANGE SOMETHING IN YOUR HOME?

I would start with setting a realistic budget. From there you can decide which projects to tackle. Remodeling a kitchen or primary bathroom will cost more than updating your bedroom decor. So deciding how much you want to invest is a starting point. It also depends on your lifestyle. If you are always hosting you may want to focus on the family areas. If you are not exactly the hosting family perhaps the primary bedroom where you can retreat to after a long day.

WHAT ROOM IS YOUR FAVORITE IN YOUR HOUSE?

My backyard is my favorite place to be. We have a pool so I enjoy spending our summers creating memories in the pool, eating dinner outdoors, and watching my girls practice their dance moves in the grass.

WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU WISH OTHERS KNEW?

I enjoy wine and I am a sommelier. Wine & Design are my favorite things. Follow my other business, Wine Spencer for all things wine.

LIVING STYLE THE INTERSECTION OF FASHION AND HOME

IN

this unexpected love affair, fashion and interiors are more than just a simple pairing—they are rooted in culture, creativity, and the human desire for self-expression. As conscious consumers of the 21st century, participating in a retail landscape that is oversaturated and struggling to adapt to the ever-changing demands of the modern customer, our purchasing power should not only respond to a feeling of want but also prioritize items that reflect who we are and who we aspire to be. This is clearly visible through the representation of fashion and interiors. Although we tend to consider cost-per-wear primarily when it comes to clothing, this same principle applies to furniture and the function it brings to the home. Aesthetics and functionality both play a role in this pairing, painting a picture for the rest of the world of who the wearer is and how they live in their space. The woman who wears a blazer with sharp shoulders that makes her feel powerful in her everyday life—or the black dress that gives her a necessary boost of confidence—may naturally gravitate toward sleek, modern furniture that feels equally strong and elevates the space where the modern woman thrives.

In the same way, someone who prefers an effortless ensemble—like their favorite white T-shirt and comfortable denim jeans—may also look for home pieces that are functional and make their guests feel at ease. Even a handmade rug, one that sparks conversation about where it was found and adds a focal point to a room, mirrors how we search our closets for a sweater tied to a cherished memory. Just as we carefully choose outfits to express ourselves, it’s equally important to ensure that our living spaces are designed

with the same intention. More than ever, modern buyers are making purchasing decisions based on personal morals and values, forming a new wave of consumers who seek products that are both high-quality and environmentally or socially conscious, whether for themselves or their homes. The following imagery affirms that living a timeless lifestyle across all aspects of life is possible through the thoughtful styling of sustainable clothing and vintage furniture. As the modern retail landscape continues to evolve, it’s become increasingly vital to make conscious consumer choices—ones that allow us to express our truest selves through both our wardrobes and the places we call home.

What are the benefits of in-home care support?

It is an emotional decision when choosing to receive help in the home due to general aging issues, a progressive disease, or a recent hospitalization. It is the belief that receiving help is “taking away independence.”

AT AMADA, WE WANT TO CHALLENGE THE MYTH AND CONSIDER THE BENEFITS: • Support in the home keeps independence longer in the home • Peace of mind for other family members • Respite for the primary caregiver • Increases nutrition intake along with maintenance of personal hygiene

Back to School Health Gina Van Luven, Owner, Prime IV Hydration & Wellness, share tips for keeping kiddos healthy in back to school season

ARTICLE BY GINA VAN LUVEN Start with protein. Protein provides the amino acids the brain needs to function properly. If your child eats oatmeal or cereal in the morning, add ground flax or chia seeds, nuts or other seeds, like sunflower or pumpkin. Protein bars or shakes can be fine as long as they don’t contain artificial ingredients and excess sugar, which can impede brain and immune function. Aim for less than 10 grams of sugar per serving.

TIPS TO ENSURE YOUR CHILD HAS A SUCCESSFUL DAY AT SCHOOL:

Well-Rested – This will be different for every child. Most children between Kindergarten and sixth grade need about 10 hours of sleep, while preschoolers need 10-12 hours and Junior High and High School kids need between 8-9 hours. Healthy Breakfast – NEVER skip breakfast! Get your child up early enough so that they can eat a proper meal. Worst case – send

them to school with a quality protein bar or a handful of nuts and an apple or banana. Healthy Lunch – Not everyone has time to make their child lunch daily. Teach them to do it! Be sure to set guidelines like always including a veggie (baby carrots and snap peas are an easy go-to) and have them pack fruit or a cup of natural applesauce for dessert instead of sugar-laden sweets. (Remember the protein!) Love – Every child needs to know they are loved. Be sure to hug and give your child love every day! Keeping your child healthy helps you, too! But if you’re feeling run-down, consider a nutritional IV with Prime IV Hydration & Wellness. We specialize in adult therapies but can serve children age thirteen and older with a note from their pediatrician.
