Lifestyle Letter

There’s something truly special about taking a moment to recognize the women in our lives who make the world more vibrant and beautiful. Whether it’s our mothers, daughters, friends or colleagues, these women are often the silent forces that shape our days and make life richer.

With Mother’s Day this month, our thoughts naturally turn to all those incredible women — biological mothers and mother figures alike — who have made an unforgettable impact on us. It’s the teachers, friends, neighbors and family members who offer their love, wisdom and support in countless ways.

This month, as we celebrate these remarkable women, I also want to encourage you to support local businesses owned by women in our community. One of my favorite parts of this job is connecting with and championing the incredible women here in Medina County. From movers and shakers to makers and builders, these women bring so much to the table, both seen and unseen. Their contributions, often behind the scenes, create beauty and impact that cannot be replicated.

Take a moment this month to recognize the women in your life. Send a text, make a phone call or arrange a video call with the women who have made a difference for you. It’s a simple but powerful way to brighten someone’s day and remind them how much they’re loved.

Here’s to celebrating the women who make life so much more meaningful. Happy Mother’s Day and cheers to the ladies who inspire us every day!

Until next month,

May 2026

“STRONGHER is designed to make young girls feel supported, challenged and empowered in a way that meets them where they are.”

Empowering the Next Generation

This Wadsworth Gym is Helping Young Women Build Strength, Confidence and Resilience

Top-rated personal training studio 2PiFit in Wadsworth is expanding its impact in a meaningful new way. Known for helping women over 40 reclaim their strength, confidence and vitality through a holistic, results-driven approach, the locally owned gym is now channeling that same philosophy toward a younger audience.

With the launch of its STRONGHER Program, 2PiFit is investing in the next generation of female athletes.

Owner and lead trainer Celena Darrah recently introduced STRONGHER with a clear vision: to give middle and high school–aged girls access to the kind of education and support that often comes much later in life, if at all. The program goes far beyond the basics of workouts and conditioning. Instead, it provides a wellrounded foundation that includes proper strength training techniques, nutrition guidance, injury prevention strategies and mental resilience.

“We’re focused on supporting young girls in every aspect of their development — not just strength and conditioning,” says Celena. “The program is designed to teach them how to fuel their bodies, prevent injuries and build confidence in the gym and beyond.”

That comprehensive approach is intentional. In a culture where young athletes can feel pressure to specialize early or push their limits without proper

guidance, STRONGHER offers a balanced alternative — one that prioritizes longevity, self-awareness and sustainable progress. Participants learn how to listen to their bodies, understand the importance of recovery and build habits that will support them well beyond their school sports years.

Another defining feature of STRONGHER is its accessibility. The program is designed for both seasoned athletes and girls who are completely new to the gym environment. Some participants come in looking to enhance sport-specific performance, with goals of competing at the collegiate level. Others are simply curious about getting stronger and more confident in their bodies. Regardless of their starting point, each girl receives the same level of attention, encouragement and individualized guidance.

“Some of the girls in the program are already involved in sports and want to develop their skills further,” Celena explains. “Others are just beginning their fitness journey. What’s important is that they all feel supported, challenged and empowered in a way that meets them where they are.”

Training sessions take place twice a week under the guidance of Coach Caylee, a former Division I soccer player and exercise science graduate who brings both technical expertise and firsthand

““By training together, they realize they’re not alone in what they’re learning or working through”

athletic experience to the program. Her background allows her to connect with participants on multiple levels, offering insight not only into physical training but also into the mindset required to grow as an athlete.

In addition to regular sessions, Celena and Caylee occasionally host bonus weekend workshops that dive deeper into topics like nutrition, recovery and injury prevention. These sessions give participants a more complete understanding of how to care for their bodies and optimize their performance in a healthy, sustainable way.

The semi-private training format is another key component of the program’s success. Rather than training alone, participants work out alongside a small group of peers, creating an environment that is both supportive and motivating. Over time, those shared experiences often lead to meaningful friendships.

“By training together, they realize they’re not alone in what they’re learning or working through, and that sense of community makes a big difference,” Celena says.

Offered year-round, the STRONGHER Program allows participants to commit to either six- or 12-month sessions, giving them the time and consistency needed to see real progress. More than just a training program, it’s an investment in long-term health, confidence and personal growth — one that equips young women with the tools they need to feel strong in every sense of the word.

BERRY BRUSCHETTA

A RECIPE FROM A CUP FULL OF SASS

ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY AMY TINNIN

This Berry Bruschetta is a delightful twist on the classic bruschetta that we all love. This version uses fruit, bringing a sweet element to the traditionally savory dish. With the use of fresh berries, cream cheese, delicious fruit spread, crumbled cheese, and fresh rosemary, it is the perfect addition to your next spring event. This simple, yet beautiful appetizer could be enjoyed at your next brunch, shower or Mother’s Day celebration. But let’s be honest—you don’t need an excuse to enjoy this delectable dish!

INGREDIENTS:

• 12 baguette slices

• Extra virgin olive oil (for brushing)

• 4 oz cream cheese

• 1/4 cup Fruit and Honey Triple Berry Spread (or any fruit spread of your choice)

• 1/3 cup fresh strawberries, sliced

• 1/3 cup fresh blueberries

• 2 oz fruit cheese (such as Wensleydale with Autumn Fruit), crumbled

• Fresh rosemary for garnish

DIRECTIONS:

1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

2. Lightly brush the front and back of the baguette slices with Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

3. Toast baguette slices in the oven for 3-5 minutes or until lightly toasted.

4. Once the baguette slices are cool, spread a generous layer of cream cheese over each slice.

5. Add the fruit spread on top of the cream cheese.

6. Add sliced strawberries and a few blueberries, allowing the vibrant colors to pop. (A great place to find fresh fruit is our local staple, Crystal & Rich’s Produce.)

7. Crumble the fruit cheese over the top for an added layer of richness and depth.

8. Garnish with fresh Rosemary if desired.

9. Serve and enjoy!

25 Years of Beauty Rooted in Connection

SALON EVANGELENE CELEBRATES

A QUARTER CENTURY IN MEDINA COUNTY

ARTICLE BY ERIN BAKA | PHOTOGRAPHY BY JORDYN BROWN PHOTOGRAPHY

In the heart of Medina, Salon Evangelene has become more than just a place to refresh your look. It’s a destination built on intention, growth and lasting relationships. As the salon approaches an incredible 25-year milestone, its story is one rooted in both vision and purpose.

Salon Evangelene first opened its doors in August 2001, founded on a simple yet powerful idea: to create a space where both clients and stylists could truly thrive. After years immersed in the beauty industry, owner Evangelene Brown recognized a gap, one that called for a salon that felt elevated, yet welcoming, while prioritizing both exceptional services and meaningful connection.

Evangelene, who has been a stylist for 38 years now, says, “I saw the need for a space that valued not only beautiful hair and relaxing spa services, but also genuine relationships for our clients and an education-driven environment for our team.”

At its core, Salon Evangelene operates on three guiding principles: education, integrity, and community. Often described as a “teaching salon,” ongoing education is not just encouraged, it’s embedded into daily operations. Associate stylists and interns can be seen working alongside their mentors behind the chair. The team regularly participates in advanced training, ensuring that clients benefit from the latest techniques and trends.

This mentorship-driven approach allows newer stylists to refine advanced techniques while learning the art of guest experience to ensure consistency across every level of service. Education remains one of the salon’s strongest pillars, supported by programs such as Eufora University and in-house training through The Academy at Salon Evangelene. “When our stylists grow, our clients benefit,” Evangelene explains.

As a full-service salon and day spa, the offerings are extensive, ranging from customized color and blonding services to extensions, massage therapy, facials,

waxing and detailed nail artistry. Evangelene says, “Every service is customized so each guest leaves with a look that reflects their personal style.”

Yet, beyond skill and service, the experience itself is what truly defines Salon Evangelene. From the moment a client walks through the door, the intention is clear: to create a space where guests feel welcomed, relaxed and confident. “A salon visit should be both a service and an experience — a moment to recharge and leave feeling like the best version of yourself,” Evangelene shares.

This year marks a major milestone: 25 years in business. For Evangelene, it’s a moment of reflection and gratitude. “ This milestone represents not just longevity, but relationships — with our clients, our team members past and present and the Medina community that has supported us for so many years.”

To celebrate, the salon is planning a series of events designed to give back to the community that has supported them from the very beginning. While details are still being finalized, the focus will remain on honoring clients and sharing memories that have shaped the salon’s journey.

Additionally, Salon Evangelene holds the distinction of being the only Green Circle Salon in Medina County, allowing them to recycle beauty waste and operate more sustainably — an initiative the team takes great pride in.

Looking ahead, the vision remains focused and intentional. The goal is to continue evolving as both a beauty destination and a place of mentorship for the next generation of stylists. Education will remain at the forefront, along with a continued dedication to serving the Medina community with professionalism, creativity and genuine care. Learn more about the salon and services at  SalonEvangelene.com or by calling 330.725.1234. Salon Evangelene is located at 4018 Medina Rd., Suite B.

“A salon visit should be both a service and an experience — a moment to recharge and leave feeling like the best version of yourself.”

“This milestone represents not just longevity, but relationships — with our clients, our team members past and present and the Medina community that has supported us for so many years.”

PERSONALIZED HORMONE SOLUTIONS

REGAIN ENERGY, CONFIDENCE AND WELLNESS WITH HAPPY HORMONES & BEAUTY CABIN

Meet Happy Hormones & Beauty Cabin, a wellness facility in Richfield dedicated to personalized, root-cause-focused care. The practice is led by board-certified nurse practitioner Shahnaz El Jaouhari, whose approach blends clinical expertise with compassionate patient-centered treatment.

Throughout her career, Shahnaz has seen far too many women struggle with symptoms that are often dismissed despite being told their labs are “normal.” She has faced these same challenges herself and after finding little relief through conventional treatments, she became passionate about helping other women restore balance, improve their energy and feel confident in their bodies again. Her focus goes beyond symptom management — it’s about optimizing health from the inside out.

At Happy Hormones, the goal is to uncover the factors that disrupt the body’s natural harmony. Shahnaz evaluates hormonal, metabolic and lifestyle imbalances that can prevent patients from feeling their best, taking a deeper and more personalized approach than conventional care. She prioritizes time, attention and customized treatment plans built around each individual’s lab results, physiology and long-term health goals, ensuring care is both effective and sustainable.

With advanced training in bioidentical hormone therapy and functional weight management, Shahnaz specializes in natural bioidentical hormone therapy designed to work in harmony with the body. This is often combined with targeted support for insulin resistance, stress, thyroid health and other metabolic factors that can make weight management and overall wellness feel like an uphill battle.

Hormone therapy at Happy Hormones is delivered with safety and precision as the highest priority. Bioidentical hormone therapy, when prescribed appropriately and monitored through regular lab testing and follow-up visits, is considered a safe and effective option for many

patients. Shahnaz carefully evaluates each patient’s health history, risk factors and lab results before beginning therapy and continues to monitor progress to ensure treatments remain both safe and effective over time.

Shahnaz works with patients navigating a variety of challenges, and her approach is not just about symptom relief but about helping patients feel vibrant, strong and fully themselves again through science-backed strategies, compassionate care and highly personalized treatment plans.

Some of her focus areas include:

• Weight gain and cardiometabolic issues: stubborn abdominal fat, weight loss resistance, unexpected weight gain, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, high blood sugar and insulin resistance.

• Sleep and mood: insomnia, trouble staying or falling asleep, mood swings, irritability, anxiety, low energy and chronic stress.

• Hormonal symptoms: perimenopause, menopause, PMS, irregular cycles, hot flashes, incontinence, hair loss, dry skin, muscle loss and joint pain.

Clients at Happy Hormones begin their journey with a complimentary discovery call. During this call, Shahnaz explores current health challenges, past treatments and the goals each patient hopes to achieve. These findings are then used for an initial consultation. For those who already have a clear understanding of their health challenges and next steps, the discovery call can be skipped in favor of scheduling the initial consultation.

The initial consultation is an in-depth session that costs $150 and includes a detailed review of medical history, current challenges and health goals. General labs are ordered and reviewed, and Shahnaz determines whether advanced testing is needed to uncover deeper underlying issues. This consult sets the foundation for a personalized treatment plan that prioritizes fast symptom relief while supporting long-term wellness.

Treatment plans at Happy Hormones typically fall into one of two categories: Health Reboot or Health Maintenance.

The Health Reboot program is an intensive four-month plan designed to resolve long-standing health and wellness issues. At $399 per month, it includes four monthly extended visits to optimize health, access to a virtual health coaching program, unlimited email communication for support, a customized supplement plan, 15% off supplements at Happy Hormones, lab review (lab testing not included) and prescription management.

The Health Maintenance program is a one-year subscription starting at $99 per month. It includes two extended visits with lab review, management of prescriptions including bioidentical hormones, thyroid medications or other medications, access to a virtual health coaching program and 15% off supplements.

Because Shahnaz believes that feeling good and looking good go hand in hand, she can also incorporate advanced aesthetic treatments to support healthy, graceful aging into either program. These include chemical peels, microneedling, neurotoxin treatments and skin-rejuvenating therapies such as Profhilo®.

Shahnaz explains that many patients begin with the four-month Health Reboot program and then transition to Health Maintenance to continue receiving ongoing support with their health and hormone goals. This approach allows patients to maintain the progress they achieve during the Reboot while continuing to optimize wellness, hormone balance and overall vitality.

By combining advanced medical knowledge, a focus on root causes and a compassionate, personalized approach, Shahnaz helps patients regain control of their health. For more information or to book a free discovery call, visit HappyHormonesBeautyCabin.com or call 330.333.2394.

BECKY HILLYARD

From Side Hustle to Style Empire

The power of taste, trust, and the courage to “just start.”

She didn’t have a business plan, a media budget, or even a name anyone could pronounce. What Becky Hillyard had was taste, a young family, and the instinct to just start. Today, her lifestyle brand Cella Jane commands an audience the size of Vogue’s , she’s nine collections strong with Splendid, and she’s built it all while raising three kids — refusing to sacrifice one for the other. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Becky shares what it really takes to build a brand, a career, and a life you love. Read the highlights below, then scan the QR code for the full conversation.

Q: WHEN DID YOU KNOW CELLA JANE WAS MORE THAN A HOBBY?

A: Two moments. Women started emailing me saying they bought something I recommended and felt amazing — asking me to help them find a dress for a wedding. That felt incredible. Then I looked at my affiliate numbers for one month and realized I could cover our mortgage. I thought, I can actually do this. I never set out to build a business. I started it because I genuinely loved it.

Becky in Splendid x @CellaJaneBlog Spring 2026 Collection

Q: WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST RISK YOU EVER TOOK WITH THE BRAND?

A: Designing my own collection. It’s easy to point at items on a website and say I love these. But to create something from scratch, put your name on it, and wait to see if people connect with it — that’s terrifying. I had an incredible partner in Splendid, and women loved the pieces. It was the biggest risk and the biggest accomplishment.

Q: HOW HAS INFLUENCER MARKETING CHANGED SINCE YOU STARTED?

A: When I started, brands didn’t know whether to take it seriously. Now it’s a legitimate line item in their marketing budgets — sometimes bigger than TV. Because what we’ve built is trust. People trust a real recommendation from someone they follow far more than a commercial. There’s no question about it now.

Q: YOU’RE A MOM OF THREE RUNNING A FULL BRAND. WHAT DOES YOUR DAY ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE?

A: I try to get up at five and not hit snooze — that first hour before the house wakes up is the most productive, most peaceful hour of my day. Then it’s all hands on deck with the kids and school drop-off. After that I work — planning content, connecting with my team, editing. After pickup, the day shifts completely and it’s all about them. I’ve learned to protect both halves fiercely, because both matter.

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BUILD SOMETHING OF THEIR OWN BUT KEEPS WAITING?

A: Don’t wait. Don’t wait for the perfect camera, the right strategy, or enough followers. We find every excuse to stay comfortable. Just start, be consistent, and be authentically yourself. The right people will find you — and they’ll stay.

This conversation is just the beginning. Becky goes deeper on the risks that almost stopped her, the design process behind her latest Splendid collection, and what she’d tell her 2012 self today. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on the Share the Lifestyle podcast.
