LIFESTYLE LETTER

Happy New Year! The start of a new year is often filled with excitement and a sense of renewal. It’s a time to set goals, embrace fresh opportunities and imagine what the months ahead might hold. But for many, January can also bring pressure — a reminder of unfinished resolutions or the weight of expectations. This issue of Medina County Lifestyle was created with a different intention: to inspire long-term, sustainable improvements in physical, emotional and mental well-being. Life isn’t about perfection; it’s about staying consistent. In business, health or relationships, it’s rarely the occasional moment that matters most — it’s the choices you make day after day. Think of it this way: you wouldn’t vacation every day, but planning a couple of trips each year is both realistic and restorative. And while a rich dessert isn’t an everyday habit, it’s a wonderful treat when enjoyed from time to time. As you step into a new year, focus on the small, steady actions that bring balance and fulfillment. Join a fitness class (we love Tru Barre!), make time for rest (a massage from Essential Escape Medina is always a good idea) and remember to savor life’s simple pleasures (like a great meal from The Oaks in Chippewa Lake). It’s the “most of the time” choices that shape a meaningful life. Here’s to a healthy and happy new year — we’re cheering you on! Until next month,

How Foot Health C ontr ibute s to Your W h ole Body

THE FOUNDATION OF WELLNESS ARTICLE BY DR. KAYLA SCHAEFER, DPM, AACFAS

Your feet do far more than move you from place to place — they form the foundation of your entire body, providing support, balance and mobility every day. Despite their importance, foot health is often ignored until pain or dysfunction appears elsewhere. Understanding how your feet and ankles influence gait and how faulty mechanics can lead to pain or instability in the feet, ankles, knees, hips or back is essential for maintaining total-body wellness. Foot care goes beyond preventing blisters or sore arches. When your feet function properly, they help maintain healthy alignment and reduce strain on joints and muscles. Proper biomechanical optimization creates better foot, ankle and leg function by supporting normal alignment throughout the lower extremity. When foot mechanics

break down, the effects can travel up the body, contributing to shin, knee, hip, back and even neck discomfort. Recognizing the connection between foot health and whole-body wellness is the first step toward preventing injury and improving your quality of life. Proactive foot and ankle care can relieve pain, slow or prevent the progression of chronic conditions, reduce the likelihood of surgery and support a more active, comfortable lifestyle.

HOW POOR FOOT HEALTH CAUSES PAIN ELSEWHERE

When a foot injury or mechanical problem occurs, your body compensates, forcing other muscles and joints to work harder. This can lead to strain, misalignment and new sources of pain. KNEE PAIN Issues like overpronation — excessive inward rolling of the foot — can disrupt knee alignment, causing pain, instability or injury. LOWER BACK PAIN Postural changes beginning in the feet can affect the entire kinetic chain. Flat feet or uneven weight distribution may tilt the pelvis and contribute to chronic lower back strain. NECK AND SHOULDER TENSION Long-term misalignment in the feet can subtly shift posture over time, creating tightness or discomfort in the shoulders and neck. FOOT HEALTH AND CHRONIC CONDITIONS Foot wellness is also a critical component of managing chronic medical issues: • Diabetes: Poor circulation and neuropathy increase the risk of ulcers, infections and nerve damage. Regular podiatric exams are essential. • Arthritis: Degenerative joint conditions often affect the feet early, causing stiffness and pain that can alter gait and increase stress on other joints. • Obesity: Excess weight places added pressure on the feet, contributing to plantar fasciitis, heel spurs and joint pain. Limited mobility from foot pain can further affect weight management.

“Recognizing the connection between foot health and whole-body wellness is the first step toward preventing injury and improving your quality of life.”

WHEN TO SEE A BALANCE FOOT & ANKLE PODIATRIST You should seek professional care if you experience: • Persistent foot or ankle pain • Numbness or swelling • Difficulty walking or standing • Chronic conditions such as diabetes, arthritis or obesity • Acute injuries like sprains or strains Early diagnosis can prevent small problems from becoming major ones. Your feet support your entire body — don’t wait for minor discomfort to turn into full-body pain. Schedule an appointment with Balance Foot & Ankle by calling 216.658.0111 or visiting BalanceCle.com to learn more. JANUARY 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C OM/ME D I N AC O UN T Y

Cutting-edge Medical Innovation Meets Everyday Wellbeing with Regenerative Medicine Services at Paragon Physical Medicine

Regenerate Your Health Wooster-based Paragon Physical Medicine is widely recognized for its exceptional chiropractic care and comprehensive approach to integrative wellness. One of the most forward-thinking offerings within this care model is regenerative medicine. Regenerative medicine focuses on helping the body repair, restore and replace damaged cells and tissues — essentially supporting the body’s own ability to heal. Rather than simply addressing symptoms it works at a deeper level by encouraging true regeneration, often through advanced therapies such as stem cells and platelet-rich plasma.

but wanted understand all of their options. The Paragon team was able to provide regenerative cell therapy treatments to BC, resulting in a 70% reduction of pain within one week and a 90% reduction within four weeks. Another Paragon patient, Mabel, lived with constant pain in her left shoulder and arm after an accident in 1999. She was told that without surgery her injury was incurable. She says, “I could hardly use my arm to do any lifting or care for my household, and there was always a lot of pain. I decided to do regenerative cell therapy and within two weeks I had less pain. In four weeks, I was doing my own housework again.” To learn more about Paragon and how their regenerative medicine services can support your health and healing, visit ParagonPhysMed.com. In a lifestyle setting it’s the science driving many of today’s leading wellness trends: enhanced recovery, improved mobility, slower visible aging and long-term vitality. It’s where cutting-edge medical innovation meets everyday wellbeing, offering pathways for people to feel stronger, more rejuvenated and more resilient from the inside out. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) play a vital role in regenerative medicine thanks to their ability to develop into different cell types, release anti-inflammatory compounds and support natural tissue repair. These cells have been used to help ease symptoms associated with a range of conditions including herniated or degenerated discs, neuropathy, rotator cuff tears, tendonitis, joint pain, and osteoarthritis. The team at Paragon utilizes regenerative medicine to relieve pain and solve for real issues. A patient that goes by BC went to Paragon for a second opinion after learning they would need surgery to treat five herniated discs in their neck. They were living with horrendous pain daily
