For the kids + pets of Medina County

I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits.

This issue is always one of my favorites. I suppose because of the immense joy that children bring to their families and the significant impact they make on their communities.

Children are not merely the hope for a brighter tomorrow; they are the foundation upon which our society stands. Their innocence, curiosity and boundless potential have the power to shape the world in ways we can only imagine. Kids represent our hardest work and greatest investment, and we are happy to highlight the best for Medina County’s kids in this issue.

Secondarily, who could forget pets? The special kind of companionship can be a transformative experience for children and adults alike. Pets provide us with unconditional love, the opportunity to learn, grow and develop essential life skills in a nurturing environment. And who could ignore the bond between kids and their furry or feathery friends? The bond is often deep and meaningful, fostering qualities like empathy, responsibility, and companionship.

When I was growing up, we had a black Labrador Retriever named Baby. Throughout our time together, she taught me the values of friendship, responsibility and loyalty. She left a lasting impression on me as a child that I have carried with me into my adulthood.

One thing that both children and pets share in common, is that they need us. Our care, attention and intention shape how they are raised and who they become. We hope this issue inspires you to pour a little extra into the children and pets in your life this month.

Until next month,

August 2024

METRO LEXUS, MEDINA HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND W.A.G.S. 4 KIDS HELPED ONE MEDINA RESIDENT SECURE A NEW SERVICE DOG

A COMMUNITY IMPACT

The spirit and compassion woven into the Medina community is once again shining brightly and Metro Lexus is part of this heartwarming tale. Recently, Metro Lexus, Medina High School students and W.A.G.S. 4 Kids —  a local nonprofit dedicated

of Medina, was eager to extend a helping hand: “The community of Medina has always had a special place in our hearts,” Mapp shared. “When we heard about Vincie’s need for a new service dog, it was only natural for us to step up and offer our support.

WAS ONLY NATURAL FOR US TO STEP UP AND OFFER OUR SUPPORT.”

to matching service dogs with children in need — came together in a remarkable show of solidarity to help Vincie, a Medina High School student, secure a new service dog. Vincie, who has bravely faced numerous health challenges from birth, including a 13Q chromosomal deletion and mild cerebral palsy, lost his beloved service dog, Harper, a critical companion that helped him navigate his daily medical treatments and provided emotional support.

The financial burden of acquiring a new service dog, estimated at $18,000, could have been a daunting obstacle. However, the Medina community’s collective response was swift and generous, embodying the true essence of community spirit.

That’s what community is all about.” Metro Lexus backed their words with a $500 donation to W.A.G.S. 4 Kids.

The support did not stop there. The spirit of generosity spread throughout MHS and beyond. MHS senior and bandmate, Lexi Council, spearheaded a pizza fundraiser at a local restaurant, creating an opportunity for students, parents and community members to come together and contribute to Vincie’s cause. The event was a resounding success, highlighting the close-knit fabric of the Medina community.

Adding to the collective efforts, W.A.G.S. 4 Kids announced they would cover half of the cost for Vincie’s new service dog. This organization, which works tirelessly year-round to support families in need, serves 25 counties in northeast and central

Ohio. Their commitment to assisting Vincie underscores their mission and amplifies the impact of the community’s fundraising efforts.

In Medina, this inspiring journey is a reminder that community support is invaluable, and together, they can overcome any hurdle, big or small. Metro Lexus and the Medina community’s unwavering support for Vincie reflects the heart of their town and serves as a shining example of what it means to truly care for one another.

Metro Lexus is a 24-time Elite of Lexus dealership serving the greater Medina area. They are deeply committed to excellence in customer service and community engagement. This honor reflects their unwavering dedication to providing exceptional service to each and every one of their valued customers.

Mapp loves running with his Labradoodle, Bentley, and his Shih Tzu, Bruno, at Hinckley Lake, along with Medina’s gorgeous Metro Parks and Carolyn Ludwig Mugrage Park’s Dog Park. Supporting his local community is a true passion for Mapp and his amazing Dealership Teams, and he looks forward to assisting Medina residents with all their automotive needs. Something Sweet

THESE CUSTOM CREATIONS ARE PERFECT FOR KIDS’ BIRTHDAY PARTIES, HOLIDAY EVENTS, GRADUATION PARTIES, AND MORE

Cakes, macarons and sweet treats galore — Cassidy’s Cooling Rack is a northeast Ohio business that has all the confectionary goods you could ever need for a celebratory event. From birthdays and graduations to weddings and holiday get-togethers, head baker and owner Cassidy Colón can make a little something sweet for any event.

The Litchfield resident and Buckeye High School grad opened Cassidy’s Cooling Rack in 2020 after everything was shut down due to the pandemic. She said: “It started with cookie decorating kits during COVID and has progressed from there. Now I take custom orders for cakes, cupcakes, cake pops and more.”

But Cassidy started baking well before 2020. She explained to us, “I’ve been baking since I was a kid. I used to get in trouble for spending too much time baking and making a mess in the kitchen.”

Although she still makes a bit of a mess in the kitchen (a necessary evil when you’re baking), the launch of Cassidy’s Cooling Rack allowed her to continue spending time doing something she’s passionate

about while making people in the community happy with delicious treats.

Since its inception, the demand for her sweet treats has only grown. Some of her most popular orders are birthday cakes and wedding cakes. However, she also offers macarons, cookies, cupcakes, cake pops and cakesicles — all of which are completely customizable.

“I have a list of flavors that I offer, but I will do basically anything. I can get creative and I love working with my customers to make custom creations,” said Cassidy. “One of the more unique flavors that I do is champagne. It’s really good in macarons and cakes. I never use the artificial champagne flavor — I only use real champagne and this makes a difference.”

To place an order with Cassidy, send her a message via Facebook at Facebook. com/CassidysCoolingRack . While she doesn’t currently have a brick-andmortar store, she offers convenient pickup and delivery options. To see more pictures of her creations, follow her on Instagram at  Instagram.com/ Cassidys_Cooling_Rack

High Voltage Karting

Adjacent to Foundry Social, High Voltage Karting offers a thrilling indoor racing experience. This highspeed go-kart facility features electric karts that provide a quiet yet powerful racing experience. The karts are designed to deliver speed and agility, making them suitable for both beginners and experienced racers. The indoor track is well-maintained and provides a safe environment for all participants. In warmer months, the doors open to create an indoor/ outdoor combination track!

High Voltage Karting is ideal for adrenaline junkies looking for an exciting activity to complement the more laid-back games available at Foundry Social. The venue offers individual racing sessions as well as group packages, making it a perfect choice for parties and corporate events looking to add a bit of competitive fun to their schedule.

MAD Brewing Company

Completing the trio is MAD Brewing Company — a craft brewery located within the same complex. MAD Brewing focuses on creating a variety of unique and flavorful beers that cater to different palates. The brewery’s taproom provides a cozy setting where visitors can sample a range of brews, from hoppy IPAs to smooth stouts. The beers are also featured in many of the dishes at Foundry Social, adding a local flavor to the dining experience.

PEDIATRIC chiropractic

It may be difficult to imagine that a child would need chiropractic care. They seldom complain of pain the way adults do and their bodies seem to bounce back faster from injuries. The truth is, children’s bodies are under a lot of stress while they are developing and keeping them healthy requires maintenance. Stress and trauma to the body and spine commonly begin with the birthing process. Infant spines can easily become misaligned from the intense pressure involved in both natural and Cesarean births. Unfortunately, other than crying, they have no way of communicating their pain. Throughout infancy, they may sleep in awkward positions and occasionally take a tumble. Toddlers, strain twist and fall, while learning to crawl and walk. Luckily, they are very resilient and can take a lot of impacts, but it is not uncommon

for these injuries to develop into patterns of movement that will pull a child’s bones out of alignment over time.

As kids age, they may start to develop bad posture. Sitting in front of a computer or TV can have serious repercussions on the spine. Playing contact sports, wearing heavy backpacks and even sitting at desks can all cause issues. As teenagers, they begin to deal with the stress of daily life whether working or playing sports.

Chiropractors can perform an extensive examination to determine the cause and the best route for treatment. Some children are too young to communicate or they’re shy — a chiropractor has the skills to work with them to find out exactly what is going on before proceeding with treatment. Gentle and non-invasive adjustments are then made to the spine.
