Our nationally certified hearth experts did a total fireplace makeover for Lisa and Dan in Medina. This charming couple love to entertain! They wanted an updated fireplace to fit the scale of their sizeable great room to complement their antiques and art collection.

We removed the old wood burner, grey stone surround, and outdated mantle, replacing them with a Heat-n-Glo® gas fireplace, a brighter new stone facade, and a barn beam mantle.

Cathy and Carl have a gorgeous and unique setting with large windows overlooking the tops of trees and a winding road in the background. They needed an effortless and safe solution to their old, unsafe wood stove.

We removed the old stone with thimble from an old wood stove and replaced it with stone to the ceiling, a new hearth, and installed a direct vent gas stove.

I hope this letter finds you laying by the pool or lake and soaking in some much-needed Vitamin D.

As the days grow longer and the weather gets warmer, I find myself eagerly anticipating the arrival of summer. There's just something about this season that brings about a sense of excitement and adventure.

Sure, Fall has my favorite flavors and scents, Winter has its cozy charms and I can't deny the beauty of Spring. But when the Summer solstice rolls around, I’m more than ready for the long, languid days of sitting by the pool or floating on a boat.

The pages in our Summer Fun issue will help you make the most of this season in Medina County — from seasonal hairstyles to high speed action at Summer Motorsports Park.  And even if Summer doesn't mean three months of summer vacation anymore (because we're, you know, adults), we can still look forward to an adventure by crossing things off our ultimate Summer bucket list and curling up with a new favorite beach read. Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer. It can occur anywhere on the body but is most common on the upper back, torso, lower legs, head, and neck. New, rapidly growing moles or moles that itch, bleed, or change color or size are often early warning signs of melanoma.

Habitat for Humanity of Medina County has been building safe, healthy and affordable places for local residents to call home since 1991.

The nonprofit Christian housing ministry works to eliminate substandard housing by building and renovating simple, decent, affordable homes to sell to families with a zero interest mortgage. In addition, the organization is dedicated to constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; advocating for fair and just housing policies; and providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions.

With these goals in mind, as well as an excellent board of directors, staff and volunteer workforce that work tirelessly to execute them, here are some of Medina County Habitat's impressive stats:

• 47 homes built since 1991

• 13,000 volunteer hours in 2022

• 300 volunteers in 2022

• 112 construction days in 2022

But these numbers are just one gauge of Medina Habitat's hard work and success, and we'd be remiss if we didn't mention that Medina Habitat's impact goes beyond its statistics. The organization's

work to create secure housing revitalizes neighborhoods, strengthens communities and fosters strong and stable households that are foundational to child growth and development.

The restaurant and culinary institute works within the umbrella of the Recovery Center of Medina County to offer a sixmonth culinary training program to individuals in the recovery community. While training, students not only receive valuable culinary education but are also paid a living wage and provided with comprehensive support services.

RECOVERY CENTER OF MEDINA COUNTY

The Recovery Center of Medina County operates with a mission to ensure every individual who desires an opportunity to overcome their addiction is allowed that chance and receives the necessary support to succeed. To fulfill this mission, the Recovery Center works to reduce barriers to recovery from substance use disorders and advocate for those in recovery.

Sérénité Restaurant & Culinary Institute is an integral component of the Recovery Center, as the six-month training program offers a unique and innovative approach to addiction recovery. In addition to this program, the Recovery Center offers peer support counseling and meetings, recovery maintenance skills, financial literacy and referrals for sober housing and job placement. SÉRÉNITÉ RESTAURANT & CULINARY INSTITUTE

Sérénité Restaurant & Culinary Institute launched as a nonprofit in the spring of 2018. It's at the core of the Recovery Center program and offers a distinctive and innovative approach to addiction recovery, which encompasses a six-month training program, teaching techniques of classic French cuisine and high-quality restaurant service.

The program can accommodate up to 16 students at one time, who rotate through a curriculum that includes classes on all aspects of the culinary and hospitality industry, kitchen and culinary skills and front-of-house training. Many of the program participants are married and have children, and are seeking to live a sober life and to better provide for their families. As such, students are held to a high standard of excellence in their culinary training, which aims to enable them to acquire jobs in restaurants offering higher wages that will support a family.

While in the program, students are paid a living wage and have full access to all of the Recovery Center’s programming,

case management and support systems. After the completion of training, students also receive job placement assistance. Since the inception of the Culinary Institute, Sérénité has supported over 80 program participants, many of whom have gone on to secure jobs in the culinary profession.

Finally, all of Sérénité's profits are used to fund the tuition and recovery programs for this unique job training program. So while you're enjoying some of Executive Chef Todd Whitman and Sous Chef Kyre Marshall's delicious food, you're also supporting the nonprofit's life-changing addiction recovery program.
