Our May issue is dedicated to celebrating the women in our lives. As I reflect on the many women in my life, I am thankful for each one and the impact they have made. One of the best qualities a woman can possess is having confidence in herself, but at the same time being able to see the beauty and talent in other women and call out greatness in them, too. Women celebrating women and encouraging each other to succeed rather than competing with each other is so beautiful and rewarding. At Essential Escape in Medina, an authentic spa-care experience isn’t just a guarantee, it’s what owner, Deanna Fausnight, and her team pride themselves on. The spa and yoga studio opened in December 2021 in the former Family Video location at 210 E. Smith Rd., and has seen a massive outpouring of support from locals. “We had [an estimated] four-month build-out that ended up taking a year because of COVID,” said Deanna. “It was really hard and there were many times that I didn’t know if we’d ever open. But when we finally did, I was immediately blown away. I am beyond grateful for our community and their support.” The spa’s immediate success is no doubt due in part to Deanna’s passion. Her love for her business, team and clients was prevalent throughout my entire interview with her. Her genuine love and pride for Essential Escape are unlike anything I have experienced while interviewing for Medina County Lifestyle. Deanna combines her passion with hard work and a mission like none other — to improve each guest’s overall quality of life at Essential Escape. She and her team do so by using an approach that combines medical expertise with an authentic spa-care experience to increase health benefits. A big part of this approach is the team’s customer service model — one that focuses on building relationships and, more often than not, friendships. “I love building relationships with clients. One of my favorite things is meeting people and being able to build

a bond with them over mental and physical relief,” says Deanna. “It seems like we always put ourselves last on the list of things to take care of, so it’s a beautiful thing when people come into Essential Escape for a spa treatment.” And Essential Escape has no shortage of treatments. The studio offers massage, facials, hair removal services, spray tans and even yoga. “I am currently training to become a certified yoga teacher because I love it so much,” says Deanna. “I have a team of nine yoga teachers right now and they inspire me and help me grow every day, as do each and every one of my staff members.” All of Essential Escape’s services can be easily booked online and over the phone. Sometimes you just need to get away from it all. You know the feeling, right? You might feel like your soul needs recharging and you can’t do it in the space you’re used to functioning in on a daily basis so you search for a place of respite. Maybe you don’t even realize that you are in need of an escape, but subconsciously, you make plans that take you to that place because your soul knows. The latter instance happened to me recently and it started with a picturesque drive through rolling hills and the quiet countryside of nearby Holmes County. During my brief, hour-long journey that evening, time seemed to slow down and suddenly the sights and noises of the daily grind were replaced with the sounds of chirping birds, rippling creeks and soft breezes as I drove through the country with windows rolled down. Amidst a landscape filled with bending creeks, narrow bridges and peaceful farms, soft lights in the evening dusk beckoned me from trees atop a hill. I had reached my planned destination and in the fading daylight, a wooden structure emerged that felt as much a part of nature as the evergreens that surrounded it. This earthy and inviting structure is home to a premier boutique resort called The Inn at Honey Run in Millersburg, right in the heart of Ohio’s Amish Country. The Inn has been nationally recognized with awards and brings guests from all across America. Settled on 56 acres of land filled with trails, gardens and woodlands, The Inn offers a variety of attractions, activities and lodging choices — most notably their Club-Level Honeycomb rooms and suites, which is where I stayed during my visit. With stone patios and walls that are nestled, quite literally, into the hillside, The Honeycomb suites have the look and feel of something you might see in the English countryside. Patio doors invite guests into the warm, fireplace-lit interiors that are carefully crafted for comfort and relaxation. Within moments of being on the property at The Inn, I knew I had picked the perfect spot to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday that weekend. The setting was lovely and romantic — the kind of place that instantly captures visions and stores them in your head as memories for the rest of your life.

After getting settled into our room, we took a nice stroll down to the main building where we met family for dinner at Tarragon, a fine dining experience that adds even more class to an already incredible destination. With white linen tables and soft, warm lighting, the dining room invited us in with beautiful views of the surrounding landscape through walls of floor-to-ceiling windows. Executive Chef Bret Andreasen, who spent time as a sous chef at Thyme 2 in Medina, offers an award-winning three-course contemporary American cuisine menu with a variety of choices that are sure to please diners with a wide range of tastes. For my dinner that evening, I chose the beef-braised carrots for my first course,

the butternut squash bisque for my second course and the pan-seared red snapper as my main entrée. Every time I tried a bite of something new, my mouth and taste buds were instantly stimulated with rich flavors and textures. It was one of those dinners that you can’t wait to tell your “foodie” friends about. I was happy to be fortunate enough to share this experience with our family and loved ones that night. The Inn is one of those special places that invites you in and instantly allows you to take a deep breath that fills you with a sense of peace. Jason Nies, proprietor of The Inn since 2009, has done a wonderful job of protecting the legacy and carrying on with the vision that original owners Marge Stock and Margret Schlichting had

BRINGING JOY ON PURPOSE BUBBLES & BOWS HAS FOUND SUCCESS IN CREATING VIBRANT BALLOON ARRANGEMENTS THAT SPREAD HAPPINESS

It’s no surprise that Bubbles & Bows, with its dramatic and unique balloon arrangements, is getting ready to expand for the second time. What is a surprise, is that it opened in March 2020 amid a growing pandemic. Christy Overman is the brainchild behind Bubbles & Bows and brings more than 40 years of retail leadership and vision from companies such as the Walt Disney Company and Gap Inc. What started as a fun side hustle, exploded into a full-time venture with the help of social media. Its amazing growth prompted Christy to move a few blocks down from its location at 119 Lafeyette St. to a more accommodating space so that she can better serve her customers.

Recently, we had the opportunity to chat with Christy about the growth and expansion of Bubbles & Bows, and here’s what Christy she had to say:

WHY DO YOU THINK BUBBLES & BOWS IS SO SUCCESSFUL? What separates us from our competition is that we are consistent with the customer experience and product integrity – both of which are our No. 1 priority. Because of this, we have very loyal, repeat customers. Our customers have been so supportive and have been our biggest cheerleaders! It starts out with a balloon creation for an engagement party, then a wedding, a baby shower, first birthdays, and so on. Our clients come back because each time the experience and quality are the same.

WHAT ARE YOUR MOST MEMORABLE BUBBLES & BOWS ARRANGEMENTS?

That is a tough one! Our mission statement is “bringing JOY on purpose.” One of our most elaborate creations was ordered by the Eaton Corporation — 3500 balloons climbed a 5-story corporate headquarters for a United Way campaign. It was spectacular! It took a semi-truck and a team of people days of work leading up to the delivery. Another memorable creation was for a funeral of a young child. The child loved balloons and it was a beautiful creation of balloons for a celebration of her very short and beautiful life.

There’s no better place to celebrate mom or that special woman in your life than at Blue Heron Brewery & Event Center. Blue Heron was established in 2016 as an upscale yet inviting space with an uncompromising and relentless focus on detail. Since then, the Blue Heron team’s focus on detail has more than paid off, as the brewery has picked up various awards for its flavorful beers, excellent service and decadent menu items. This year, Blue Heron’s Mother’s Day Brunch will be held in its grandiose ballroom — complete with sparkling chandeliers and elegant decor — on Sun., May 8. There will be two seatings available — one at 10:30 a.m. and a second at 11 a.m. Reservations are $59 for adults, $19 for children ages 4-12 and free for kids 3 and younger.
