February 2022 PUBLISHER
Joe Violi | joe.violi@citylifestyle.com EDITOR
Emily Shea | emily.shea@citylifestyle.com
It's that time of year again, Medina County. The month of love. Although we enjoy leading with love every day of the year, February is extra special because of Valentine's Day. We love showing the ones we love how much they mean to us. Sometimes it's by taking them to a nice dinner and other times it's by simply helping out around the house. Love is love, no matter how grand the gesture. To really show our love for some local businesses this month, we have named this issue 'Local Love.' It features several local businesses, including some that are perfect to enjoy on Valentine's Day! Find our love-inspired articles about Gaia Nails & Salt Cave as well as House of Flowers in the following pages. We’ve also featured articles about a wellness-oriented local business and an upcoming charity event that you won’t want to miss. Most importantly, our inaugural Local Love issue would not be complete without giving you — our readers, community members and marketing partners — a huge thank you. We are so grateful for your support of Medina County Lifestyle and we hope you look forward to receiving it in your mailbox each and every month. We love you, Medina County!

Gaia Nails & Salt Cave is like no other selfcare experience in Ohio — and maybe even the entire United States. It combines lovely spa services with halotherapy, leaving clients feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. Offering services ranging from manicures and pedicures to spray tans, massages and permanent/semi-permanent makeup treatments, the full-service salon has a little something for everyone to enjoy.
GAIA NAILS + SALT CAVE
Gaia Nails & Salt Cave was opened in October 2019 by Anthony Nguyen — owner of five salons in Northeast Ohio —with a mission to provide clients with a relaxing atmosphere. The salon is able to do just that because it is the only facility in the area that offers such a wide range of services in addition to its salt cave experience. “You can get a group of friends together for a mani-pedi and end in the cave for a nice relaxation bond,” says Felicia Nguyen, manager of Gaia Nails & Salt Cave. “Not to mention the full bar we have as well.” That’s right, Gaia Nails & Salt Cave has a full-service bar for patrons to enjoy while they relax in the salt cave. The salon’s menu features signature cocktails, wine, beer, soda, coffee, tea and so much more. One of the customer and staff-favorite cocktails — the Peach Paradise — combines vodka, peach schnapps and fresh cranberry juice. Felicia explains that Gaia Nails & Salt Cave is the perfect experience for a group of best friends, moms and their daughters, bridal parties and even kids. Instead of calling a sitter, you can bring the little one along and treat them to a relaxing spa service. Gaia Nails & Salt Cave offers children’s mani-pedis, gel polish services and more. For Gaia Nails & Salt Cave’s regular adult services like pedicures and manicures, there are several upgrades available. Felicia says, “We have

your classic pedicure or you can upgrade the service to include a scent, sugar scrub, mud mask, hot towel or a hot stone massage. We also have very skilled artists that can create beautiful nail art.” For more information about Gaia Nails & Salt Cave, visit GaiaNails.com/Gaia-NailsSalt-Cave or call 234.466.7063. Gaia Nails & Salt Cave is located at 4161 Heritage Center Dr., #300, Copley, OH 44321. It is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Medina County Office for Older Adults’ Inaugural Charity Event

Laura Toth
It’s time to give back in style. The Medina County Senior and Adult Foundation and the Medina County Office for Older Adults would like to formally invite you to the inaugural Giving in Style: A Fashion Show + Brunch on April 23 at 11 a.m. at Weymouth Country Club. The event is the first of its kind, showcasing styles from Toni’s Boutique in Chagrin Falls and a delicious, locally-sourced brunch. It will even feature several community partners — all of who have come together to support the continual needs of MCOOA.
ABOUT MCOOA AND MCSAF MCOOA is Medina County’s provider of services to those ages 60 and over as well as adults ages 18 and over living with a disability. MCOOA operates a center in Medina and provides senior coordination services in Brunswick. Additionally, nutrition and transportation services described in Title III of the Older Americans Act are funded through the office as well as the Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging. Some of the center’s services include lunches, exercise classes, billiards, educational opportunities, art classes, support groups, entertainment and health checks. MCOOA even provides transportation to medical appointments and other essential services, as well as free tax service appointments and short-term case management assistance with Medicare Open Enrollment and other benefits help that takes place in the Aging & Disability Resource Center. MCSAF was founded as 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2019 after MCOOA Director Laura Toth found that other
public and governmental organizations had a nonprofit affiliate, allowing them to provide additional services and assistance to their clientele. “I worked with key members of MCOOA’s Advisory Council as well as community members knowledgeable in senior services to create a set of bylaws and complete the necessary paperwork to form MCSAF,” Laura says. “MCSAF is dedicated to providing additional funds for those times when our federal grants and other government funding don’t quite have the reach we would like. This year, the foundation has provided for Wednesday lunches at the center, lunches for our drive-thru senior day event, supplies for our Zoom activities and tent rental for our large outdoor activity this summer.”
ABOUT THE INAUGURAL EVENT Giving in Style will offer a fashionable experience for the community while presenting the opportunity to give back and show support for MCOOA and MCSAF. Marie Edmonds, chair of MCSAF, says that all of the funds raised at the charity event will continue to provide funding for supplement events and services provided by MCOOA. “At our monthly [board] meetings, we get requests from Laura to fund particular needs of our [community’s] seniors,” explains Marie. “We love that we can provide supplemental funding and give our seniors what they need and deserve.” For more information about Giving in Style and MCOOA, visit MCOOA.org. To learn how you can become an event sponsor, contact Mishalene Wasmer at 615.238.4532.

PERSONAL TRAINING WITH AN EMPHASIS ON MINDFULNESS AND MOVEMENT

NOW OP E N | HEALTH + W E LLNE S S
THE JOY OF HEALTHY LIVING Have you ever met someone for the first time and inevitably your conversation turns to where each of you work and what you do for a living? To be honest, that kind of conversation can usually be chalked up to “small talk” to keep the conversation going until one of you says something that is of particular interest to the other and THEN the conversation becomes more interesting. But every once in a while, the other person’s job (or your’s) is what makes the conversation really interesting. I can remember a few times in particular when I thought to myself after meeting someone, “Man! They really love their job!” I could hear it in their voice and see their eyes light up when they started talking about their career. That happened to me recently when I met Kalie Bella, owner of Phoenix Health and Fitness in Medina. Kalie’s passion for personal training and her new business were apparent within the first couple of minutes of meeting her. Kalie and her husband, Scott, recently opened the doors to their new personal training, yoga, and nutrition studio in the Signature Square Shopping Plaza last November and to

say that she is excited about helping others achieve their fitness and health goals would be a huge understatement. “I love it!” she says. “Probably my favorite part about personal training is that I get to work with people from all different backgrounds and experience levels. We have children as young as eight years old and people all the way up to 90 years old. Some people come for weight loss, others for maintenance or strength training and others come simply for their general health.” Phoenix Health & Fitness helps its clients improve and maintain their health and fitness goals by offering not only personal training but also private yoga sessions with a certified yoga instructor and diet/nutrition counseling. “Everything is personalized for each individual client,” Kalie says. “There’s no onesize-fits-all program. We take into account past exercise experience, we work around injuries and we want to know what your goals are so we can work towards those with you.” Your experience at Phoenix Health & Fitness starts with a free consultation where you can talk to a trainer about what your

expectations and goals are and tour the newly renovated studio. Your trainer will explain to you all the ways that they will help you achieve your specific health and fitness goals and show you the different packages that are available. Once you have chosen a package, you can begin to book your personal, 45-minute, one-on-one workouts, yoga sessions and nutrition consultations. The journey to transform your mind and body has now begun! Whatever your reason may be for getting into the studio and working with a personal trainer, Kalie and her staff at Phoenix Health & Fitness have got you covered and want to help you ignite your fire for change.
