Since founding Burress Design Group in 2020, Principal Designer Christina Burress has built an award-winning luxury interior design firm that creates timeless, sophisticated residential and commercial spaces. Based in McKinney, Texas, the boutique studio approaches every project as an opportunity to create a home with depth: refined enough to feel exceptional, yet welcoming enough to support the rhythms of everyday life. That balance begins with listening. Before refining a floor plan, presenting fabrics, or sourcing furnishings, the team takes time to understand how each client lives, what they value, and how they want their home to function. The result is never a prescribed look, but a highly personal interior shaped by individual history, practical needs, and a point of view that stands the test of time. “The goal is to create spaces that are elevated and welcoming, thoughtfully tailored to the way our clients live,” shares Christina.

A LAYERED POINT OF VIEW

Christina is known for a signature blend of rich textures, layered patterns, and a considered mix of vintage and modern pieces. Growing up surrounded by antiques gave her an early appreciation for objects with history and character. Today, that sensibility informs rooms where collected pieces converse naturally with clean-lined furnishings, tailored upholstery, original art, and architectural detail. For Christina, mixing old and new gives an interior its narrative. A timeworn chest, sculptural light fixture, or handblocked textile can introduce warmth and surprise, while disciplined space planning keeps the composition calm. Beauty is never treated as separate from function. Every room must support the people who use it, and every selection must earn its place within the whole. This is the heart of the firm’s idea of livable luxury: comfort with conviction, sophistication without stiffness, and spaces that become more personal over time. Color may be quiet or expressive; pattern may appear in a single tailored detail or across an entire room. What remains consistent is a sense of intention, proportion, and ease.

DESIGN FROM THE INSIDE OUT

Early involvement allows decisions about layout, cabinetry, lighting, millwork, stone, tile, plumbing, and hardware to be considered as one connected design rather than a sequence of isolated choices. Architectural consultations help align the client’s priorities with structural plans and the way a home will function. The team then develops a detailed project guide for the builder and contractor, documenting selections and specifications so that the design can be executed with clarity and precision. Custom cabinetry and molding are tailored to the architecture, while lighting plans balance decorative impact with the practical layers of light a room needs throughout the day. Countertops, stone, tile, and backsplashes are selected not simply as samples, but as elements within a larger material story. Plumbing fixtures, door hardware, and cabinet pulls are reviewed for finish, scale, performance, and continuity. These decisions may be small individually, yet together they establish the character and quality of the finished home.

A COMPLETE INTERIOR

For full-service interior decorating, the studio offers a complete design experience encompassing concept development, space planning, and refined selections of materials and furnishings. The process begins with a discovery conversation about vision, budget, goals, and style preferences, followed by an in-home consultation to understand the architecture, take measurements, and explore the possibilities of each room. Furniture layouts are developed to maximize flow and create a natural relationship between the furnishings and the home’s architecture. From there, the team sources custom upholstery,

case goods, lighting, rugs, textiles, art, accessories, and one-ofa-kind pieces. Comprehensive design presentations bring the concept together through mood boards, floor plans, and coordinated selections, allowing clients to understand the full composition before implementation. “The presentation is just the beginning,” shares Christina. Burress Design Group oversees procurement, order management, tracking, receiving, and the many details that stand between a beautiful concept and a beautifully finished room. White-glove delivery and installation complete the process, with each piece placed and every surface styled so the home feels cohesive from the first reveal.

INDOORS AND OUT

The same artistry and intention applied to the interior extends to exterior living. Landscapes, water features, patios, and outdoor architecture are considered in dialogue with the home, creating a sense of continuity from one environment to the next. Materials, sightlines, furnishings, and planting all contribute to how the property is experienced, whether the setting is designed for quiet mornings, family gatherings, or large-scale entertaining. Commercial spaces receive the same thoughtful approach. The team considers how a setting communicates identity, supports its users, and creates an immediate emotional impression. Function, durability, and operational needs are integrated with a polished visual language, producing environments that feel distinctive and purposeful.

A graduate of Baylor University with an MBA from the University of North Texas, she later pursued studies in interior design. An active member of the McKinney Chamber of Commerce and the Women’s Alliance of McKinney, Christina is closely connected to the community the firm calls home. Founded in 1976, the Junior League of Collin County (JLCC) has spent nearly five decades equipping women to become leaders while creating lasting change throughout the community. What began as the Plano Service League has grown into one of Collin County’s most respected volunteer organizations, connecting hundreds of women with opportunities to serve, lead and make a measurable difference. Part of the Association of Junior Leagues International, which includes 294 leagues worldwide, the JLCC follows a mission centered on advancing women’s leadership through volunteer action, collaboration and training. Today, its

work focuses on two critical issues facing Collin County. Economic insecurity and family violence. “The Junior League of Collin County is an organization of women whose mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration and training,” says Amy Clendening-Wheeler, President. “Our vision is that we are women serving as inspirational leaders for lasting, positive community change.” Rather than spreading its efforts across dozens of causes, the League evaluates community needs annually to ensure its volunteer time and resources are making

the greatest impact. That intentional approach has led to longstanding partnerships with organizations serving vulnerable children, families and individuals throughout Collin County. Members volunteer regularly at Community Garden Kitchen in McKinney, Collin County’s only free kitchen, where they serve chef-prepared evening meals with dignity and compassion to guests experiencing food insecurity. At City House in Plano, volunteers read with children, lead arts and crafts activities, provide books, and teach life skills to young adults transitioning toward independence.

The League has also played a leading role in addressing family violence. In 2000, it established the Collin County Council on Family Violence, a collaborative network of professionals representing law enforcement, education, healthcare, government, faith communities, legal organizations and social services. Today, the JLCC continues facilitating meetings, guiding the advisory committee and promoting coordinated efforts to address family violence throughout the county. While community service is at the heart of the organization, leadership development is what truly distinguishes the Junior League. Members receive structured training in

facilitation, organizational development, nonprofit leadership and governance while gaining practical experience leading committees and community initiatives. “What makes JLCC volunteers unique is that we are not only women who want to improve communities, but we are women with the training and skills to make it happen,” says Amy. That preparation has helped countless members move into influential leadership positions, including serving as city council members, mayors and leaders at county and state levels. The League also extends its expertise beyond its membership by hosting nonprofit excellence workshops that strengthen organizations across the community. One partnership that continues to leave a lasting impression takes place at Children’s Health Plano’s Center for Pediatric Eating Disorders. Specially trained JLCC volunteers facilitate arts and crafts sessions four times each month, providing children and adolescents with a safe environment to rebuild social connections while receiving treatment. The volunteers are the only community volunteers entrusted with this specialized program. The League’s collaborative spirit also extends throughout Collin County. Members actively participate in chambers of commerce, civic organizations and local government, creating opportunities to identify new partnerships and respond to emerging community needs.

For women looking to become more involved, Amy understands the hesitation many feel before taking the first step. “I wanted to give back to my community but was overwhelmed with the possibilities,” shares Amy. “The beauty of the Junior League is that we serve all of Collin County while helping members develop leadership skills, build friendships and discover meaningful ways to make a difference.” Today, the organization includes 266 active members, 489 sustaining members and welcomes a new class of 73 women beginning their League journey this year. As the Junior League of Collin County celebrates its 50th anniversary, Amy hopes to expand awareness across the county while exploring new partnerships and emphasizing the importance of women’s mental well-being alongside community service. Whether through volunteering, attending fundraising events like ‘Neath the Wreath or Spring BINGO, supporting North Texas Giving Day, or simply learning more about the organization, community members have many ways to become part of the League’s mission.
