Spreading Joy This Holiday Season This is one of my favorite times of the year. With families from many cultures gathering to celebrate the holidays, you can’t help but feel the excitement and joy all around. Celebrating Christmas as a child, I always anxiously anticipated what Santa was going to place underneath the tree. However, as I’ve grown older, giving to others and spending time with loved ones is what I cherish most. Tony Affatato Named Mason Boys Track And Field Head Coach Mason Athletics has announced that Tony Affatato will lead the Boys Track and Field program this coming spring, pending Mason Board of Education approval. Claw Machines for a Cause Donates to Mason Schools Foundation Mason Intermediate student Isaac Miller, lost his good friend JJ Day in 2021. He purchased his first claw machine to raise money for LOVElikeJJ. After experiencing success, he purchased additional machines to generate donations for local nonprofits. Mason Schools Foundation was the latest to receive a donation, pledging that the funds will be used to continue supporting Above and Beyond grants. Give back and support families and children in need this holiday season.

As we celebrate holiday festivities with friends and family, it’s important to remember the members of our community who may be in need. “We have more than 500 Mason students whose families are facing economic hardship,” Mason City Schools Public Information Officer, Tracey Carson, tells us. Many local organizations make donating easy by holding heartfelt donation drive events and opportunities during the holiday season. We spoke with a few local organizations that have programs in place to help our community during the holidays and throughout the year.

MASON CARES Mason Cares, of Mason City Schools, will be holding their annual toy drive in partnership with Joshua’s Place and LOVElikeJJ again this year. “Joshua's Place will be providing gift cards for students in grades 7-12 and LOVElikeJJ will provide gifts and wrapping paper for students in preschool through sixth grade,” Tracey explains. You can help by purchasing items from the preschool through sixth-grade LOVElikeJJ Mason City Schools Amazon.com Wish List or by donating to Mason Cares directly through Forms.DonorSnap.com.

CROSSROADS CHURCH Crossroads Church also holds an annual toy drive. Participants pick up gift tags from the church with a child's name and QR code with instructions to purchase and send them back through online shopping.

“More than 2,000 Christmas gifts will be received by children in Mason thanks to the generosity of the Crossroads community,” Erin Caproni, director of public relations for Crossroads Church shares. Those interested in participating can sign up to help sort and distribute gifts at Crossroads.net.

MADE CHAMBER The Mason and Deerfield Chamber will hold their annual JingleFest on December 7 at Manor House Event Center from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Attendees are instructed to bring an unwrapped, new toy suitable for infants to young teens for the Building Blocks for Kids (BB4K) toy drive. Toys will be distributed to families by BB4K. Event registration information can be found at Business.MadeChamber.org.

KINGS LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT The Kings Local School District is implementing an "Adopt a Family" model for this year's Holiday Help Program. The district is anticipating around 150 families, equaling about 350 students. Please refer to KingsLocal. net for updates. Any direct questions can be sent to Lauren Wise, Kings Local Schools District resource coordinator (lwise@kingslocal.net). Additionally, the student-led nonprofit clothing center, Kings Kloset, provides free garments and supplies to those in need within the district. They will be open on December 2 and January 13 for donation drop-off from 9-11 a.m. More information can be found at KingsLocal.net.

This Giving Campaign is all about personally impacting the lives of people we know with an unexpected check in the mail just to say that someone thought of them this holiday season.”

The annual City Lifestyle Giving Campaign is in its 4th year. Last holiday season we gave away over $300,000 to help 116 individuals and families in need, but we need your help to make it happen again this year. With nominations flooding in from community members and leaders such as judges, police officers, teachers, nurses, social workers, mentors and readers like you, we were able to reach people who might otherwise go unnoticed. Perhaps you know of a single parent struggling to provide for their family, an elderly person who has experienced loss, someone enduring a health issue, a co-worker suffering a sudden, unexpected tragedy or a neighbor with a financial hardship who has fallen between the cracks of getting assistance. Chances are you know someone with a specific need, even if no one else does. “We believe in giving back and serving the communities where we live in a real and tangible way,” says Steven Schowengerdt, CEO and founder of City Lifestyle. “This Giving Campaign is about personally impacting the lives of people we know with an unexpected check in the mail just to say that someone thought of them during this holiday season.” “We believe God has blessed our company with continued success, so we in turn want to be a blessing to others,” Matthew Perry, President of City Lifestyle adds. City Lifestyle has also enacted an internal giving program whereby every employee in the company receives $100 to give away to someone in the community. “The idea is to encourage our employees to keep giving on their own,” Steven says. “Taking care of one another and blessing others is truly rewarding and it perpetuates a cycle of giving. It’s extremely important to me as a person and as a company to foster a culture of generosity.”
