LIFESTYLE LETTER

Style Is a Story

September 2025

What is style, really? It’s more than what we wear or how we decorate a room. Style is the posture we take in the world. It’s how we walk through difficulty, how we tell our stories, how we curate beauty from the ordinary. True style doesn’t shout; it whispers with confidence. It’s practiced, personal, and unmistakably one’s own. This month, we’re celebrating the quiet kind of style that’s earned, embodied, and expressed. We begin at Hollrah Wellness & Aesthetics, a Northshore sanctuary where self-care isn’t a luxury; it’s a deliberate return to power. Sisters Carly Hollrah and Katie Foret are rewriting the rules of beauty with a philosophy grounded in integrity, intention, and whole-body wellness. What began with borrowed furniture and a shared dream has become a destination for alignment, transformation, and grace. This is not a med spa chasing trends. This is an empire built on faith, finesse, and the courage to say no when less is more. From there, we invite you to explore the finer things that make everyday living both beautiful and intentional. If you’re ready to get hands-on, “DIY Textured Art” offers a trend-forward way to add depth and personality to your walls with no artistic skills required. For a boost from the inside out, “Power Poses” shares five confidence-igniting yoga postures to help you stand taller in both body and spirit. In “Stylish Vertical Gardens,” you’ll discover the lush, space-saving home design trend that will have you saying, “Oh, grow up!” And when it’s time to savor the outdoors as we creep toward autumn, “Picnics & Pairings” will guide you in curating a cozy, flavor-filled spread that delights the senses and nourishes the soul. If you’re craving a getaway, we’ve curated a luxury escape for you and your family at Loews Coronado Bay Resort, a place where California sun meets timeless hospitality. And for the aesthetes and design lovers among us, don’t miss “Objets d’Art,” our roundup of striking coffee table books that elevate any interior and reflect every passion, from fashion to photography to architecture. So here’s to style that lingers. The kind you feel before you see. The kind that tells the truth. Until next month,

med spa with a playlist of corporate zen. Hollrah is equal parts skin clinic, wellness retreat, and quiet revolution: a sanctuary that feels like a return to self, to strength, and to stillness. And it’s run by two sisters who built it from the ground up and made it look easy. Spoiler: It wasn’t. Their origin story is stitched with grit. Carly Hollrah was a cardiac ICU nurse, raised in Mandeville, married to a Navy fighter pilot who once spent eight months at sea during COVID, unreachable except by email. She worked the ICU frontlines while raising her small children, achieved her nurse practitioner degree, and burned out, as many did, under the crushing weight of what care had come to cost. Carly left the chaos of the hospital behind to build something slower and softer and deeply strategic. She didn’t chase fast fixes or aesthetic trends for trend’s sake. Instead, she built her practice on honest, layered care. Her sister Katie Foret—the elder by six years—is the other half of the alchemy. With five kids, fierce organization, and zero fluff, she’s pragmatic, steady, and laser focused on building something that endures. When Carly called with a dream and no address, Katie didn’t hesitate. “She could’ve picked anyone,” she says, eyes shining. “But she picked me.” Katie glances around the beautiful office. “We didn’t inherit this. We assembled it.” The two sisters launched with furniture from home, a makeshift front desk borrowed from a Pilates studio, and a logo Carly commissioned from Fiverr in a Coffee Rani parking lot. Their first treatment chair was a loaner, and their first month, they shared a space once overtaken by dirt daubers. And yet, something sparked. Patients came. Then more. In six months, Hollrah hit capacity. By the end of their first year, they had outgrown its square footage, added a team of estheticians, expanded services, and begun renovations on the third floor. Carly’s philosophy is subtle: balance the structure first. Work with the face, not against it. “It’s not about making you someone else,” she says. “It’s about returning you to yourself.” But beneath the glow is something deeper. A theology of care. A faith in goodness. “We couldn’t have built this without God,” Carly says, quietly. “The speed, the favor, it’s inexplicable.”

S KIN CA R E | HEALTH + WE LLN E SS

In a market saturated with sameness—plumped lips, filler-forward faces, aesthetic algorithms—Hollrah makes a different kind of offer. The aesthetics world is a space so often associated with comparison, perfection, and pressure. Hollrah has no interest in that. “I tell my patients all the time,” Carly says, “I’d rather you look your age than look weird.” A patient may come in asking for everything, but Hollrah will likely say no. “If your budget is $2,000 but you only need $400 worth of work, that’s what we’ll do,” says Katie. There’s no sales pitch. No pressure. Carly tells you when to wait. When to skip it. When skincare will do more than filler. “I’d rather have a patient come back in five years loving how they’ve aged,” Carly says, “than walk out today looking frozen.” Treatments are curated, not cookie-cutter. Wellness is wholebody. Peptide programs are tailored. And the team? They are fiercely aligned. There’s no turnover, no drama … just women walking the walk. “We’re not chasing perfection,” Carly says about their practice. “We’re cultivating alignment.” And maybe that’s why Hollrah doesn’t just attract clients, it attracts loyalty.

Now, plans are underway for a new build, new treatments, and new ways to add value to their patients’ lives. “We’re not here to play small,” Carly says. “We’re building an empire. A kind one.” In a culture chasing volume, Hollrah offers value; in a world chasing filters, they offer clarity. And in an industry where beauty is so often only skin-deep, they remind us that aging is a privilege, and honoring it is an art. Here, beauty isn’t about correction. It’s about refinement. Skincare isn’t cosmetic, it’s ritual. Peptides, hormones, lasers— they all orbit the same center: restoring your own personal radiance. Hollrah is the kind of place that doesn’t just offer facials and injectables; it offers recovery, renewal, and return. There’s a moment, Carly says, when everything clicks. “We call it the ‘Hollrah glow-up.’ Not because your skin is smoother or your cheeks are fuller, but because something has shifted. You’re standing taller. You’re back in your power.” Carly and Katie are more than just sisters. They’re more than just founders or specialists with exceptional taste and clinical precision. They are women who have nothing to prove and everything to offer. The Northshore is having a glow-up, and Hollrah Wellness & Aesthetics is its mirror.

Vertical Gardens Are Moving Indoors

The Stylish Home Design Trend That Will Have You Saying, “Oh, Grow Up!”

Humans have always had a penchant for propagation. Since King Nebuchadnezzar II built The Hanging Gardens of Babylon (one of the original Seven Wonders of the World) in the sixth century BC, artful gardening has fascinated folks. Today, there is a growing trend (pun intended) in home design that echoes that need to nurture, albeit on a much smaller scale. It goes by many names. Environmentalists refer to them as “green walls” or “ecowalls.” Gardeners may prefer “garden wall” or “edible wall.” Designers have dubbed them “statement walls.” But for our purposes here, we will refer to them as the architects do — as “vertical gardens.” A vertical garden is essentially a wall, or part of a wall, that is covered with plants growing in soil or another type of medium. Though they began as outdoor architectural attractions, these wonderful wallscapes are popping up indoors, and their benefits go beyond a fancy facade. The most obvious benefit of a vertical garden is the visual beauty it brings to the room. Its unexpected presence adds surprise and drama, while its living tenants, with their varied textures and individual personalities, add energy and a bit of charm as well.

Beyond the aesthetic advantages, living walls have health benefits. They improve the air quality by adding humidity, trapping dust particles, and absorbing many harmful gasses, replacing them with oxygen. They can help with cardiovascular issues like blood pressure as well as breathing problems associated with allergies and asthma. Because they lend a sense of calm and well being, they can even improve concentration, elevate mood, and reduce stress. Because these living walls are becoming more popular, demand is driving the price down, making them more affordable for the average homeowner. Kits are available and most feature an integrated water delivery system which makes them low maintenance as well. As for which types of plants to grow, succulents, mosses, grasses, and ferns are all good choices. Tropical vines work well also, as they can trail down or climb up. Pothos and philodendrons have great climbing capabilities, are fast growing, and low maintenance. The design possibilities are as endless as the plant combinations. So bring the outside in! Simply choose a location with bright, indirect light, and turn your wall into a living piece of artwork with a vertical garden.

Ambiance: Throw pillows are a must. Pull them from your couches or invest in outdoor pillows that can be used repeatedly. A large throw is also essential to protect from moist ground and grass stains. Bring your favorite tunes with one of the many available portable speakers or unplug and enjoy the sounds of nature. Cut flowers add a wow factor.

Gear: You don’t have to own a picnic basket to have a picnic. But if you do bring a basket, make sure to have some way to chill your perishables and drinks. Reusable silverware, plastic wine or drink cups, and plates often come with a picnic basket set, but can also be purchased separately. Keeping it elegant, but easy (and cool) is the key!

Accompaniments: A cheese plate with fruit is the perfect start to your picnic fare. As with the cheese, your drink selections should coordinate with the main dish. For salads, pair accoutrements with the dressing in mind. A lemony herb vinaigrette dressing goes well with smooth cheeses and tart beverages such as lemonade, prosecco, or sauvignon blanc. Enjoy your perfect picnic!
