LIFESTYLE LETTER
AUGUST 2021 PUBLISHER
Kristi Dressler | kristi.dressler@lifestylepubs.com PUBLICATION DIRECTOR
Life would be incomplete without the love of our pets and children! AS A MOM OF 3 KIDS, 2 HORSES, AND 2 LARGE DOGS (WHICH WE OFTEN REFER TO AS OUR MINIATURE HORSES), I AM ALWAYS BUSY. My kids are 15, 12, and 9, and that means there is never a dull moment in our house. I am always on my toes! As challenging as this can be, I wouldn’t change anything about it - except to slow time down even if it’s just for a minute. I have to remind myself often that this is just a season in life which will never come again. So, I'm always on the lookout for fun activities, tips, and hacks that will make life run smoother, as well as inspiring stories that will motivate me to be the best mom that I can be (whether that’s to my kids or animals!) Regardless as to if your kids are fur babies, youngsters, teenagers, or young adults, we know that you will love this issue!

ICE CREAM + Start by creaming (or mixing) the eggs and the sugar together with an electric mixer. + Gradually add in the vanilla extract. + Next, mix in the sweetened condensed milk. Scrape all the ooey gooey liquid out of the can with a spatula. + Add both cans of evaporated milk. + Add in a good-sized dash of salt, which equals out to about a teaspoon. + Mix everything together well. + Make sure your ice cream freezer, especially the canister, is washed out and ready. + Pour the mixture into the metal canister of your ice cream maker. + Finish topping off the canister with whole milk, making sure to fill it about 3/4 of the way full. This way, you leave room for expansion as your mixture freezes. (Your metal canister should have a fill line.) + Put the lid on and place the metal canister down into the bucket of your ice cream maker. + Crush a big bag of ice and gradually pour ice around the canister. Tip: You can add up to a gallon of water if needed as well. We will do this if our motor happens to seize up! Adding a bit of water will help it keep turning. + Add 2-3 cups of rock salt as you add the ice. When you’re done, top off the mixture with rock salt. + Let the motor run until it stops. Once the ice cream is frozen, the motor on your ice cream maker will stop churning. + Unplug it immediately. This should signal that the ice cream is completely frozen. + Wipe any excess ice or rock salt off the lid and out from around

Keeping Your P e t s H e a lt h y FOOD AND HOUSEHOLD ITEMS THAT ARE TOXIC TO PETS
IT'S ALWAYS SCARY WHEN OUR PETS EAT THINGS THEY SHOULDN'T. It's worse when we don't know for sure if what they ate is toxic. Throughout the year, many pets visit the Four Seasons Veterinary Specialists’ emergency room due to toxin ingestions. Some will require ongoing treatment and monitoring by a veterinarian due to organ damage. Thankfully there are resources to help you identify those dangers beforehand. We suggest you put these numbers in your phone: The ASPCA Poison Control Line is staffed 24/7 and can be reached at 888-426-4435. The Pet Poison Helpline is also staffed 24/7 and can be reached at 855-764-7661. For identifying ingested plants, you can send photos and information to the Plant & Fungus ID Facebook Group at (www.facebook.com/ groups/554451004697420) and they will provide information to you. For EMERGENCY SITUATIONS ONLY, you can reach out to the Emergency Plant & Fungus group at (www.facebook.com/ groups/144798092849300) for assistance identifying suspicious plants that a pet has ingested. They do truly amazing work to help pet owners and veterinarians identify and appropriately treat animals who've ingested toxic plants or fungus, or to alleviate the fear.
