SARAH NICOLE REDESIGN HAS SOME CHANGES IN MIND
The ladies issue is always one that I plan for well in advance. It’s not really intentional, I just meet so many amazing women in my line of work that the issue just naturally builds itself, plus each business featured is as unique and thoughtful as its owner. They all have great stories to share!
From healthy baked goods so delicious you won’t even miss the extra sugar (read Low on Sugar, Big on Spice) to redesigning your living room by mixing in items you own with new purchases (read Reduce, Reuse, Redesign) to creating a space for quilters to stitch together their masterpieces (read We Quilt This City)—these business owners saw a need and said “I’ve got the solution.” So, we applaud and celebrate them this month.
Now, I look forward to next year’s ladies issue unfolding over the next few months. With so many new women-owned businesses opening up in Loveland, I’ve already got some ideas.

EMILY BARLOW, PUBLISHER @LOVELANDLIFESTYLEMAGAZINEA happy client is a wonderful thing! A happy client who calls us back to complete another new home project because they were so pleased with our previous work … well, that makes our day!
After we corrected a botched job done by another company, our new clients were so impressed they felt they could trust us with their dream project—an outdoor living space that had the “WOW” factor.
So, we built them a showstopper—a radiused (curved) corner of the deck that accents their landscaping below. Holmes is one of few contractors with the technology to create a curved corner.
Their dream list also included:
- Replacing their existing deck, railing and stairs with Trex Island Mist decking.
- A gorgeous screened-in overbuild where they can relax and enjoy nature with skylights, and a covered walkway from their home to get them there.
- Creating a useable space under the deck with Trex Rain Escapes and a catio (patio for cats = catio).
- Adding a drive-in shed for the riding lawn mower, complete with concrete ramp and Hardie siding.
The result? Clients who are over the moon and can’t wait to host a neighborhood get-together!
That old saying, “the devil’s in the details”—something seemingly simple, but complicated in truth. The warmth and conventionality of quilting seems simple on the surface. But its creativity, craft, culture—well, that’s where the real genius lies.
Where neighbors can see and be seen.

As you step foot into Kelly Haseotes’s house, it’s impossible not to feel the comfort exuding from the very walls of her home. Each warm-toned detail and slate-blue hue offer cheery charm, and you’d be hard pressed to find one element out of place. When asked about the beauty of her home’s design, Kelly immediately raves. “I moved to Ohio about three years ago, and this is my 9th house … so I’ve gone through designs and changing homes multiple times. I knew what I wanted—someone who was going to be super-easy to get along with, super-independent in what she was thinking and how she was executing, and I wanted my home to feel warm and approachable.” Wish granted—all that (and more!) was achieved thanks to Sarah Nicole Redesign.
Sarah Nicole Redesign is an interior design firm that boasts a bold twist. “We try to embrace what people own and give it a modern, fresh update … so it still feels functional and livable for a modern family,” explains Sarah Schumacher, founder and owner of the company that now bears her name. So, instead of an interior designer who comes in, bills you for everything and wipes out the old, Sarah gets up close and personal with things you already own and weaves those into her redesigns. And it could be anything, from Grandma’s vintage dining room table to something found in a box that’s been tucked away in the basement for years, now brought to the light of day during the redesign. “Our specialty is working with what people have first … that’s what
we like to do best. It’s more challenging, but it’s fun! People’s items usually have a history or are sentimental—we’re not trying to come in and wipe the slate clean.” Talk about a breath of fresh (well-designed) air.
First and foremost, Sarah values placement over purchase—something that sets her apart from all the rest. For Sarah, it’s all about finding the right place in a design for an already-owned item, and incorporating that seamlessly into her new vision for the client’s space. Redesign isn’t a luxury project— it’s an affordable, practical investment in your home … Sarah understands that amazing design should be accessible to everyone. “I myself am a busy working mom—I totally understand wanting your home to feel coordinated and pulled together, but respect and understand that this is also the space where you raise your family, create memories, make messes. Your home can be pretty and practical.”
The demographic for who can benefit from Sarah’s redesigns varies, but one thing stays true: redesign is interior design and home decorating for everyone. Sometimes, it’s helping empty-nesters downsize from their large family home to a condominium, and choosing which pieces they can keep and incorporate into the new space. Or maybe it’s a blended family, both of whom are bringing along their own collections and want to seamlessly integrate their lives and their furnishings together. It’s for the busy working moms and dads who want that little bump of help to make their homes warm, cozy and inviting every day. It’s mixing the old with the new to create the perfect environment so your home feels like just that—a home.
So now you’ve decided to utilize Sarah and her firm’s talents (good decision), but what comes next? It all starts with a consultation, where you sit down with Sarah to talk it out. What projects are on your list? What colors do you like? Where do you normally shop for
your home? How do you want this space to feel? And there’s no pressure if you don’t know where to start, or even if you don’t quite know your own likes and dislikes right now—that’s Sarah forte, to happily help you identify your style and themes throughout your space.
“Sarah makes it so easy and comfortable, I never felt pressured on anything. When I walk into my home, I love it.” - Kelly Haseotes
Next, she makes suggestions for updates and provides you the option of shopping services for adding new items. “Shopping on behalf of our clients saves them time and money. We get to know our clients, build trust with them, and know which pieces are right for their homes. We’re in constant communication throughout the shopping and design process because they’ve entrusted us with their home, and that’s a big responsibility.”
GREENERY
Adding foliage to a space can create new texture in a room without having to completely overhaul it. “Greenery is a quick, easy way to add layers and interest, especially if styling shelves or tabletops.”
WINDOW TREATMENTS
“Adding window treatments can dramatically alter your space. Framing windows can actually make a space look bigger, or draw your eye to the light or view.”
BRIGHT LIGHTING
Brighten up dark corners in spaces to make a well-loved space even more inviting.
“Try adding an accent lamp in the kitchen, or new light fixtures in a living room for a fresh perspective.”
At the end of the day for Sarah, it’s about the people. It’s about evoking emotions and creating spaces that pull us in, whether the decor is new, old or in-between. “We want our clients to be comfortable and happy in their homes—to be proud of the home they have. That’s what we strive for above everything else … the rest is easy.”

Laura Bell has baked “healthy delights” for both tennis pros and the U.S. Soccer team. But her nutritious treats aren’t just served at elite athlete luncheons—you don’t have to go any farther than Hometown Café (plus five other spots Cincy-wide).
Culinary-educated and wellness-certified, Laura’s learning began in her family’s Mexico City kitchen. “All the women worked together,” Laura says. “Every weekend was spending time cooking.”
Laura bonded with her grandma in that kitchen—she’s convinced she was her grandma’s favorite. “She never shared recipes,” Laura laughs. “But she shared with me. The special times talking about her past, she didn’t spend that kind of time with anybody else. She was ‘full of spice.’”
Just like Laura’s zucchini bread. Made with almond flour, pecans, currants and grapeseed oil, it has a moist texture and slightly savory flavor that complements the spices.
With her grandmother’s passing, Laura reminisces about kitchen days with her mother back in Mexico. “She’s my best friend—every single day we call,” Laura smiles. “She’s nurturing, good with advice—my mom is very sweet.”
As sweet as Laura’s chocolate chip cookies, you could say. With a richness that isn’t from chocolate and butter, but chocolate and maple syrup.
Teenage daughter, Andi, is the other influencing female in Laura’s life. When Andi was three, doctors removed an underdeveloped kidney—the family needed to become mindful of sugar, sodium and saturated fats in Andi’s diet. From that moment, Laura dedicated herself to cooking healthy.
“I fight for and love her,” Laura says. “She’s all the flavors that I can put into one recipe.” Which is exactly like her pecan pie bars—coconut oil, pecans and cinnamon create a fall-inspired taste-bud explosion.

The moms and the mother figures in our lives mean everything to us. They deserve the best every day, of course. But at least one day out of the year, we get to shower them with the same love and thoughtfulness they give to us so selflessly.
This year, we hope you’ll consider some memorable ways to make lasting memories with the mom or mother figure in your life. If you haven’t already planned something special, take a look at our list of ideas and circle your favorites. If you have kids, let them join in the fun too!
Whether you decide to spend a day at home or enjoy a day on the town, these innovative celebration ideas will include fun for the whole family and make Mom feel loved. Whatever activity or surprise you land on to show your mom, wife, sister or maternal figure your appreciation for all they do, the most important thing is that you all get to spend some quality time together.
Take a Flower Arranging Class Mother’s Day arrives just as spring is in full bloom. Take advantage of the season by going to a flower arranging class with mom.
If Mom likes strategizing, challenge her to a friendly board game competition. (And, no, you don’t have to let her win just because it’s Mother’s Day.)
This activity is especially fun if you have a lot of kids who want to get in on the action. Then, when you all get home, you can whip up a treat for Mom with your selections. (Maybe give her a strawberry in a Champagne glass while she waits.)
There’s no day like Mother’s Day to be impulsive! Book a weekend trip for the two of you at a cute B&B in a city Mom has always wanted to visit.
Find a puzzle with an image you know your mom will love (or make a custom one using a photo of the two of you) and put it together over wine and snacks. You’ll be amazed at how much chatting you can get done while puzzling.
Go to a play or a musical — lots of towns even host outdoor theater events.

“Quilting is a community activity—it’s an endeavor that brings people together.”
Karen Breed, owner of The Quilter’s Studio of Loveland, cannot emphasize this point enough. And when you walk through the doors of her shop, the community of quilting immediately wraps you up in a warm, cozy hug (much like, well, a quilt). Not only will an associate greet you with a smile and offer assistance at the door, but everywhere you look there seems to be someone engrossed in conversation, discussing tips and tricks, material options, someone’s latest project, and what could be most helpful for them. If you happen to wander back into the workroom—where you’ll find five longarm machines all happily humming away—quilters are busy at work and cheerfully chatting, enjoying their craft and the company they keep. Karen’s store is incredible—walls are lined with quilts made to show off the bright and intricate patterns. Everywhere you look there’s a smiling face.
From baby patterns to screenprints, The Quilter’s Studio has a wide selection,
but what really stands out is their beautiful variety of batik fabric. “Batik is created using a different kind of cotton. It’s a lot more densely woven, and it doesn’t unravel easily—a really great thing for quilting since you handle the fabric a lot during the process,” Karen explains of this unique style of cloth she’s come to be known for. Not only is it practical, but through a series of dyes and resists, wax and salts and drying in the sun, these batik fabrics boast beautiful, unique patterns that give quilts a whole new dimension.
But that’s not the only way her shop is distinctive. “Our tagline from the very beginning was ‘for the artist in you,’” Karen explains of her studio. “So we’re very art-focused ... a contemporary type of quilting as opposed to traditional. The unique thing about the shop is we don’t have a lot of kits—here, we use quilts to inspire, and we have a massive selection that allows people to make their own quilt.” So instead of buying a prepackaged kit with pre-determined fabrics and exact
instructions, you’re free to browse and brainstorm and create a quilting pattern of your own.
While quilting is an old art form heavily steeped in tradition, you won’t find any stagnant stereotypes in this shop. “There was a stigma way back when that you did everything by hand,” Karen explains. “But it’s become totally acceptable to do things by machine. Quilting started out as something very utilitarian—you put it on your bed to stay warm. What it evolved into is more of an art form, you put it on the wall … it’s a way to give a very personal gift. ”
And as technologies have evolved, so has quilting. But the structure of quilt-making has stayed the same, and it all starts with the quilt top, or the vibrantly designed layer of a quilt that gets displayed. Small pieces of fabric are sewn together to create units, which when stitched together in patterns create rows, and thus the quilter’s own distinctive design. Once that top is finished, it’s time to get to quilting …
The act of quilting itself is joining together layers of fabric to create one complete piece. At The Quilter’s Studio, there’s a whole workshop dedicated to the act of quilting, and the space contains some of the most amazing technology in the industry. Karen has installed the longarm quilting machines and programmed them through a computer that’s able to quilt intricate and beautiful designs right into your piece. “There’s a program on the computer attached to the machines, and customers pick what pattern they want—they tell the machine where it is on the quilt top, how big the quilt is, then the computer puts the pattern onto the quilt and stitches it in rows.” These impressive machines measure 12 feet long, with one very special one in the back coming in at a full 14 feet. They hum away as they fly across these quilt tops, stitching in flowers or geometric patterns in colorful thread to better display the beautiful patterns they create.
The store hasn’t always had as much space as it currently boasts, though. In May of 2020, the Quilter’s Studio underwent a major face-lift when Karen decided to build an addition onto her existing shop, expanding their workroom and creating a brand-new classroom. Prior to this expansion, the studio could only host about 9 or 10 people per class, and things were
crowded. Rolling dividers were used to block off working areas, whereas now there’s a gorgeous, up-to-date classroom complete with plenty of usable space, outlets in the floor, and boards to display quilted artwork on the walls—perfect for up to 15 students. Not only that, it allowed Karen to invest in that 14-foot longarm, while also creating a storeroom for batting (the material that goes between the quilt-top and the backing), creating space for the backing fabric to move into the workshop space. Customers can now better utilize the workshop, whether choosing time to rent the longarm machines or having one of the workshop employees custom quilt it for them.
From beginner quilting courses or Studio clubs to popping in for supplies or simply getting another eye on a current project, Karen’s new space allows quilters to share in the rich culture of an art they love. “People like to see quilting passed down, so we offer mother-daughter or grandmother-granddaughter classes to help the next generation get into it. Quilting is a unique hobby that people like to enjoy together.” What’s more, Karen has crafted the perfect space for artists to do just that.

“Self-care is important,” says Jacquelyn Potesta, owner of Loveland’s new Juno medspa. “When you feel good about yourself, you’re able to put more good out into the world. And I’m here to help everyone achieve that—especially the ladies of our community!”
Using innovative, non-surgical procedures, Juno is able to provide clients with a holistic approach to a customized anti-aging plan. Their advanced-practice medical professionals specialize in providing lasting, natural results with personalized treatment options.
“After all, taking care of ourselves should be non-negotiable,” Jacquelyn stresses. “That’s why I’m thrilled to provide services that help other women feel more confident when they look in the mirror.”
Jacquelyn’s dedication and determined pride stem from her 15 years in the healthcare industry. In addition to launching Juno last September, she’s been a nurse for 12 years, with 7 years of that as a master’s-level Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).
“Taking care of ourselves should be non-negotiable ... I’m thrilled to provide services that help other women feel more confident when they look in the mirror.”
“I still work as a nurse anesthetist,” she points out, which made preparing for Juno’s launch especially adventurous. “I was working my anesthesia job 4-5 days a week, while raising two toddlers, and working late every night trying to get this business off the ground,” Jacquelyn laughs. “There were lots of exciting ups and downs along the way!”
That commitment, however, has now paid off. Not only is Jacquelyn acting on her vision to offer premier holistic services, but it’s also allowing other women an opportunity to see beyond traditional options for care.
“I wanted to offer other women in the medical field a way to get out of ‘traditional’ healthcare,” she smiles. “To create a place where they could use their medical skills in a fun environment, while having the flexibility with their schedule to put their family’s needs first.”
For Jacquelyn, providing transformative skincare services to friends and neighbors around the Loveland area is a special honor, given her newfound admiration for the community itself.
“When we moved to Loveland last year, we immediately fell in love with the close-knit community!” she recalls. “People welcomed us with open arms.”
Jacquelyn admits her family is still discovering all Loveland has to offer. “From produce shopping at Bloom & Berries, to CMH Montessori where our boys go to school, to all of historic Loveland’s shopping and dining … we couldn’t imagine raising our family anywhere else. It’s been so fun to connect with people, build relationships and support other local entrepreneurs.”
No surprise, Jacquelyn is feeling right at home in Loveland—already a member of Little Miami River Chamber Alliance, she’s eager to get to work offering her signature services and being part of a community dedicated to being its best.
“I’m sure there are still lots of emotional ups and downs ahead, but it feels amazing to have our spa open and operating,” she beams. “It was a surreal process, but now we can move onto the best part—making sure our neighbors look and feel their best!”
This medspa provides a number of familiar and cutting-edge services that are redefining the way we consider medical support and holistic skincare. But what makes Juno different? Jacquelyn shares her thoughts about a few of their top procedures.
This may be the most important service I offer! I love my initial consultations with potential patients because I really get to learn about them. We talk about what their goals are, figure out if we’re a good fit for each other, and see what we can do together to get great results. The best part—each and every consultation is complimentary!
This is a critical component of our practice—I require my patients to have medical-grade skincare prior to treatments. Why? It makes our services more effective, with longer-lasting results. It’s also a critical part of maintaining amazing skin!
I’m always fascinated by how our bodies can heal themselves. Microneedling might be my favorite treatment because it’s all-natural, with almost zero downtime, and can help with almost any skin issue—dark marks, redness, uneven skin tone, texture, acne scars, loose skin, fine lines/wrinkles, stretch marks, and more. It brightens and tightens for that “goddess glow,” as I call it. Also known as “collagen induction therapy,” microneedling creates small channels into the skin, forcing your body to send blood flow to the area to heal them. This stimulates collagen and elastin production for powerful anti-aging results.
PLATELET-RICH PLASMA (PRP)
This is another all-natural procedure. PRP is acquired through a routine blood draw, which is then spun in a centrifuge to separate the red blood cells from the PRP. Placing this in strategic areas creates a response from your body that sends incredibly powerful growth factors to the area, encouraging collagen and elastin restoration.
As we age, our face loses structure, due to diminished/sagging fat pads, bone loss, and looser skin. This is when we start to see jowls, smile lines, and other signs of advanced aging. Biostimulators help replace the volume lost in the face, for immediate results. At the same time, it helps a body trigger new growth for a more long-term youthful appearance!
Interested? Come to Juno’s Mother’s Day “Sip, Spa and Shop” event on May 4, or book your free consultation any time. You deserve it!

The Loveland Transition Program: Not Only Uncovering New Paths, But Paving Them, Too
ARTICLE
BY HENRY ALLEN | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
Graduating high school is a big step—with an even bigger decision about what comes next. For some, it’s college or trade programs. For others, a full-time job, military or gap year. But for still others, there are challenges to any choice, and not always a well-worn path or a guide to the post-high-school plan. Until now. And it’s all thanks to the intervention specialists at Loveland High School.
The Loveland Transition Program (AKA, the Loveland Crew) helps students with a special education background adjust to life beyond the familiar school walls—providing real-world job experience before they graduate. By partnering with a diverse group of local businesses, the LTP Crew provides each of their students with several opportunities to try new jobs, meet people, and learn to navigate unfamiliar public places.
It began several years ago when Molly Swaine, an intervention specialist and teacher at LHS, started developing partnerships around the community. In 2019, Caitlin Haury, a transition coordinator, took over the program and made the LTP official—it’s since grown to include more than a dozen local companies and organizations.
Caitlin loves having the opportunity to help students learn such valuable skills. “Students with a special education background need to gain real work experience—kids who aren’t necessarily planning on going to college,” she explains. “If they’re bound for the workforce, we want to offer them some valuable employment skills.” These Crew students work at restaurants and businesses all over the area—making connections, building their resumes, discovering a new chapter (and new job possibilities) after high school graduation.
Even while still in school, Crew kids learn life skills with help from several aids who serve as job coaches.
“Our LTP coaches help them navigate their jobs,” Caitlin explains. “If they’re working in the school cafeteria, for instance, we make sure they wash their hands, wear a hairnet, grab some gloves.”
There’s more. Caitlin and her fellow intervention specialists Nicole McGannon and Emily Hicks work together to place students in the most appropriate setting. It’s incredibly inspiring, according to Caitlin. “Our business partners are the best—they’re always excited when our students show up, and so grateful for the help we provide,” she explains. “But the most rewarding thing? When we hear about a former student getting a job offer.”
Talk about making an impact—people around the community have begun to recognize Caitlin and her team for their work. At Plaid Room Records, Crew students help by preparing the shipping station for mailing online orders. “These kids give our shipping team some much-needed support,” PRR manager Whitney Pelfrey explains. “They fold boxes, rip stickers, help us clean and organize on busy days. I love getting to see a student learn a new skill and improve on it every week!”
It’s no surprise that over the last few years, the Loveland Transition Program has become a priceless opportunity for both intervention specialists and their students. And local businesses are making a world of difference by giving these kids a chance to learn valuable career skills. Think your business/shop/restaurant could help? “Our business partners are the best—they’re always excited when our students show up, and so grateful for the help we provide ... the most rewarding thing? When we hear about a former student getting a job offer.”
SCHOOL’S OUT—NOW PUT ’EM TO WORK: SUMMER CHORES FOR ALL AGES
Mom-joke time: What did the broom say to the vacuum? “I’m so tired of people pushing us around.” Jokes aside, with kids home for summer, that means more family time, more activities and … more helping hands! Research has also shown that children who are responsible for tasks have higher self-esteem, are more responsible, and cope with frustration easier. It’s a winwin for everyone—that’s why Terry Sanderson and The Maids of Cincinnati have suggestions for age-appropriate chores:
• Start younger kids off with chores you can do together. Messy bed? Try something like, “Maybe we can jump on it before we make it together.”
• Toys ALWAYS on the floor? “Let’s see who can put them in their cubbies the fastest!”
• Have a pet? “Will you help me scoop food into Rover’s bowl, like this?”
• Think about cooking together. Of course, scooping can get messy, but kids this age enjoy mixing and measuring.
• Have them help fold and put away laundry (it’s ok if it’s not perfect!).
• Sweeping—maybe pretend that scrap paper on the floor is a puck and the broom is a hockey stick? Penalties for high-sticking.
• Vacuuming can be harsh on sensitive ears, so utilize headphones and make it a dance-party moment!
• Dust with microfiber cloths (easy and effective), but skip furniture sprays for kiddos at this age.
• Letting preteens help choose their own chores (and when to do them) gives them a sense of ownership. Try designating a certain day that it’s their turn to load and unload the dishwasher.
• Kids at this age are great at helping carry in and organize groceries.
• Prepare meals together—and don’t be afraid to let them take the lead once they get going!
• Most teens can tackle any chore if they know how to do it. But remember, parents—be cautious not to overwhelm them. Even with good intentions and planning, teenagers can become resentful if they feel overloaded.
• Cleaning bathrooms (especially their own!), being mindful of potentially harmful chemicals.
• Do chores like laundry (again, their own) independently (including starting the load).
• Best of all? They can help and teach younger siblings now, too.

If the last few months of mercurial weather have caused unforeseen damage to your property, Ricky Heflin of Shelter Insurance on Wards Corner can help. An independent owner of this local Shelter Insurance office since January of 2022, Ricky has a few insights on the importance of an umbrella policy, no matter the season.
Ricky explains, “An umbrella policy offers extra liability coverage to better protect your assets—it basically goes above and beyond what your auto and homeowners’ liability limits are.”
“Umbrella policies are a great policy for anyone, but especially those who have large investments, incomes, expensive
assets,” he continues. “Anyone who has the potential to be financially harmed due to a liability claim.”
“Say, for example, you get into an at-fault vehicle accident, severely injure someone and your auto policy’s liability limits are $250,000 per person and $500,000 aggregate—the most an insurance company would pay for that person’s injuries is $250,000 per person with a total cap of $500,000 per accident. If the liability claim is above the policy’s coverage amounts, you would be held personally liable and would have to pay for the excess out-of-pocket. If you have a $1 million umbrella policy, the two policies could provide $1.25–$1.5 million of liability coverage. The umbrella policy

“We offer great claims, amazing service, and the best insurance agent this side of the Mississippi,” Ricky smiles. “Truth: my phone is always on. I try to explain things the best I can when it comes to helping people understand their options—getting them the correct policies and coverage for their situation. Although we’re new to Ohio, Shelter Insurance has been around since 1946.”
