NOT ALL LAW FIRMS ARE STUFFY We believe that our environment greatly contributes to our creativity, efficiency and quality of life. Our personally selected furnishings and art, often bought at auction or from import dealers, are meant to exude a warmth, thoughtfulness and practicality that can also be seen in our work. Set in an Arts and Crafts house in historic Loveland, our light filled interiors with glass partitions and open floor plan are at once contemporary and timeless. From modern furniture design and art to sixteenth century antiques, each piece is selected with a purposefulness that, in some little way, exemplifies who we are as a law firm. We react strongly against stale and cold corporate environments that stifle creativity and leave us feeling unfulfilled. We love where we work. Always feel welcome to come in, even if just to say hi.

Our services include: Estate Planning » Wills and Probate » Personal Injury » Bicycle Injury » Negligence Tax Law » Real Estate Law » Business Litigation » 1031 Exchanges » Consumer Protection

From wrinkles to blemishes, fine lines to acne scars, they have the right serum, cream or lotion to get your skin glowing! While we often focus a lot on ladies’ fashion in our fall issue, this year we didn’t want to leave out the guys. We turned to Chuck Hellman, owner of Blaine’s Fine Men’s Apparel, for some expert advice on how to look dapper and dashing, whether donning an autumn-inspired suit and tie or a quarter-zip sweater and vest. Wondering if Black Windows Would Look Nice in Your Home? Oh, They Would. Whether your house is new or old, black windows will instantly transform your home. They ’re

simple, elegant—and very popular. Not only will your house stand out, black windows will most likely raise your home’s property value, too. When you’re ready to invest, go with the best— Infinity from Marvin Fiberglass windows.

Infinity windows are engineered using Ultrex fiberglass—Ultrex is 8x stronger than vinyl. While black vinyl windows can warp due to increased heat absorption, fiberglass resists warping, holding its shape and placement over time.

Worried about your black frames fading? Not with Infinity. The color is an acrylic finish that is actually baked onto the frame, so your windows will retain their black color year after year.

So stop wondering and give us a call. We can’t wait to see how amazing your home is going to look.

FRESH DENTAL PUTS THE FOCUS ON YOU!

a dentist for all ages ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY ELIZABETH A. LOWRY

FOR MANY, 2020 WAS A YEAR OF INTROSPECTION. Whether we liked it or not, the majority of the population was sent home to work or had to temporarily shutter their businesses altogether. This gave people time to think about what they really wanted from their careers. Dr. Ejaz Lakhani, DDS, and owner of Fresh Dental, was no exception. Although Dr. Lakhani moved from Cleveland to join the practice at the former Merit Dental in 2019, last year got him thinking more about opening his own practice. “During covid, I realized I wanted to purchase my own office where I could bring back individualized care and offer services that had not been offered before,” he says. “I was given the opportunity to purchase [the] practice in September 2020.” Because Merit Dental was part of a corporate office, its decision-making abilities were limited. Now that Fresh Dental is privately owned, Dr. Lakhani can individually treat patients, customize their dental care and offer a variety of comprehensive services—all under one roof. “We’re now able to offer patients a total dental package in the comfort of our office, eliminating the need to refer a patient out,” Dr. Lakhani says. “Along with all general dentistry, we offer health screenings, same-day emergency care, endodontics, extractions, veneers, Invisalign, Zoom whitening and other cosmetic procedures.”

get a fresh start Although Fresh Dental is an established dental office with 30 years of experience and a loyal patient base, new patients are always welcome. Dr. Lakhani says they’re also grateful for referrals as well.

In addition, Fresh Dental also now owns an iTero Scanner, which allows the team to scan a patient’s mouth and show them in real-time, in color, what their dental needs are—and what can be achieved. It can also be used as a way to eliminate impressions for services like crowns, bite guards and Invisalign aligners. There’s more. Now that Fresh Dental is free to make their own decisions, they have decided to make giving back a big part of their practice, too. “The entire staff is dedicated to giving back to the community … we’d like to be active volunteers for local causes that make a difference,” Dr. Lakhani says. “To date, we’ve participated in Children’s Dental Health month by visiting elementary schools … educating them on home care and giving out toothbrush packets. We’ve also donated toothbrushes to homeless shelters.”

:: TOP TIPS :: Visit Your Dentist See your dentist at least twice a year for routine cleanings, exams and X-rays. This allows any practice to maintain your oral health and catch any issues before they become larger problems. :: PEARLY WHITES :: Brush and Floss Regularly Home care is essential in between your regular dental visits. This includes brushing at least twice a day and flossing regularly. If your hygienist has recommended using other dental products in between visits, it’s essential to keep up their use. :: HEALTHY SMILE :: Watch What You Eat Eating right goes a long way toward your oral health. Sticky, sugary or acidic foods can cause plaque and bacteria to build up on your teeth—which can lead to decay

Feeling Good About Finance MONARCH FINANCIAL ADVISORS CONSIDERS COMMUNITY—AND THE LITTLE THINGS

32

Loveland Lifestyle | September 2021

“WE PROVIDE OPTIMISM AND EDUCATION—BOTH ARE IMPORTANT,” SAYS SUE BURNETT, CEO AND FOUNDER OF MONARCH FINANCIAL ADVISORS. Monarch takes a holistic look at their clients’ financial picture to implement personalized and unique plans. Sue emphasizes financial education throughout the process, whether helping with small business retirement plans, investments or insurance. “Every family has a story,” she says. “By learning that story, we can help them prepare the right way.” For Sue, it’s all about enabling her neighbors to prosper. “Loveland has an incredible sense of community.” Sue’s now a Loveland resident, too, after moving here with her family in 2008. “‘Loveland Strong’ really does mean something here!” That appreciation is reflected in the fundraising functions Sue frequently helps organize—like the Run/Walk for a Reason events. The first event came about in 2019 after Sue met RE/ MAX Preferred Group agent Chris Owens. “After all, we’re both small business owners who are invested in this community.” They planned the first Run/Walk for a Reason event together—and since then, seven quarterly events have followed, raising funds for Toys for Tots, Loveland LIFE Food Pantry, Living Waters Farm, The Care Center, Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank, Loveland Hope Squad, and the Ben Morrison Memorial Fund. Sue estimates those events have raised close to $10,000. For Sue, community is more than just a place to live or do business. It’s about helping neighbors to thrive—and finding value in the little things. “You’ve heard the phrase ‘It’s the little things that are truly the big things’?,” Sue asks. “I think that really applies to Loveland. Regardless of what you’re looking for, you’ll find it here.” The next Run/Walk for a Reason event kicks off at Nisbet Park on September 10 at 6:30 p.m., recognizing our local first responders for the 20th anniversary of 9/11.

H e a l t h y E n d - o f Ye a r Financial Practices Despite the popularity of her Run/Walk for a Reason events, Sue’s financial acumen is where she truly shines—when asked about her MonarchFinancialAdvisors.com 513.502.2637

top 5 EOY recommendations, she had much to offer.

1.

R ev i e w t a x w i t h h o l d i n g . If you’re a W2 employee, your pay is likely predictable— taxes should be easy to estimate early in the year. But, if you’re on commission or own your own business, your income could be unpredictable—there’s a chance that you haven’t paid (or withheld) enough. It’s a good time to recalculate your withholdings now that you have a better idea of what 2021’s income will be, otherwise, you may be in for an unpleasant surprise.

2.

G i ve yo u r 4 0 1 ( k) a n d I R A a c h e c k u p . If you’re looking for additional deductions and are still under the annual limit ($19,500 for 2021, plus $6,500 if you’re over age 50), you have until year-end to deposit additional amounts. If your employer offers a match, contribute at least enough to get the maximum match— otherwise, you’re giving away free money!

3.

R ev i e w d e b t . Interest rates continue to be low, so refinancing your mortgage or student loan could be an easy way to reduce payments. If you have credit card debt, consider transferring the balances over to a card with 0% interest. By lowering the amount of interest you pay, you’ll be able to chip away at your debt faster.

4.

R ev i e w yo u r F l e x i b l e Spending Account. If your employer doesn’t allow rolling funds over to the next year, make sure you spend the balance on qualified expenses.

5.

R ev i e w s a v i n g s a n d s p e n d i n g n o w, c r e a t e a b u d g e t f o r n e x t ye a r. An emergency fund covers 3–6 months’ worth of bills—if there’s more than enough cash in an emergency fund, move the excess to a savings or investment account, where it can grow. Consider auditing your subscriptions, and cancelling one or two you can live without. Then, create a 2022 budget, and commit to quarterly review. CityLifestyle.com/LovelandOH
