Last, I want to thank the community. I look back at this past year and though it has been an uphill battle for so many, I saw so much love and support along the way. You are the reason we publish this magazine. You inspire us every day. I always say I don’t want for content because our town is full of incredible people, and I am most thankful for that. Thank you for making my job a little easier.

She hopes The Landing will also be a way to boost business for those it partners with. “For many of these restaurants, catering will be new, but they’re on board. And it’s great exposure for Loveland! For guests to come downtown, walk around … that’s going to be huge for the economy.” The phones are already ringing with families and corporate groups eager to plan their next events in Loveland. “Especially because of our patio, our high warehouse ceilings inside—guests are excited about those ... it’s a place where they can ensure social distancing.” Even though events have been put on hold for many, there will be a sense of catch-up that The Landing is happy to accommodate. “A lot of brides I talk to have already gotten married, but still want to have that family celebration.” August’s grand opening, planned long before COVID restrictions needed to be considered, also served as a benefit for NEST Community Learning Center. “We had fun with it that night—admitting

that from a construction standpoint, we weren’t quite ready. But we felt like that was a commitment that needed to be honored,” she says, adding that many of their restaurant partners were also able to be showcased. “It was like a mini ‘Taste of Loveland.’” Those local partners make all the difference in what The Landing will offer clients. “It’s almost like you’re renting a place with your own event planner,” Jodi says. “We find the vendors that complement your vision, and what you’re trying to do. That’s what makes us unique.” LandingEventcenter.com

Adding to The Landing’s buzz are two restaurants, both of which will also operate as restaurant partners: Rodi Italian and Tahona Kitchen + Bar. Construction is in full swing, and changes can be seen daily in and around these two new in-house dining destinations. Rodi hopes to be open in late October or early this month; Tahona hopes to open in early 2021. “It was important we partnered with restaurants that didn’t directly compete

Jodi says it will be a hit “for those who enjoy a slower pace of life.” Tahona, which already has one location in Blue Ash, is known for its margaritas, craft cocktails and scratchmade tacos. “Inspired by Mexican street food, all of our menu items are made in-house,” Nancy says. “Our meats are slow-roasted and we use fresh ingredients for everything. We also have some great options for vegetarians, and those looking for gluten-free meals.” TahonaKitchen.com

Rodi’s owners “moved back to Loveland specifically to open this restaurant,” Jodi points out. “We believe Rodi’s food selection and location on the Little Miami River will create an ambiance unlike anything else in Loveland.” “We’re excited to serve and to be a part of the Loveland community!” Rob Peloni, Rodi’s chef, enthusiastically adds. “When we found

this venue, we knew its riverside proximity was special. We can’t wait to share it with everyone when we open.” This will be Rodi Italian’s debut, and the restaurant will be utilizing both local farmers and Italian specialists for ingredients. “I pushed hard to keep our menu true to Italian traditions, but fun and modern,” Chef Rob says. That includes pasta made fresh every day and house-made gelato. One house specialty will be Sacchetti (“Beggar’s Purse”), a purse-shaped dough stuffed with roasted garlic, herbs and olive oil. “We had our pizza oven—100% wood-fired— shipped to us in May. It’s an incredible beast! It’ll do 180 pizzas an hour if it gets that busy.” “I’m hoping that each customer has a better and better experience every time they come in, and can find something different each time.” RodiItalian.com

THEY SAY HOME IS WHERE YOUR HEART IS— THAT INCLUDES YOUR HISTORY. What happens between those four walls includes a lifetime of memories: happiness, heartbreak, smiles, sorrow. But ask any homeowner what their corner of the world means to them? Two families answer here.
IT’S GOOD TO BE HOME When John Hill Construction began restorations on a Loveland home built in 1940, the team never expected they’d meet a previous owner. Darlene Jones and her family moved into the house in 1954; her father lived there through 2003. When Darlene learned about the renovation project, she contacted John Hill to see the updates—and reminisce. “We had so many fond memories of that house,” Darlene says. “My dad was born on Christmas Day and that was his day. He decorated the house with so many lights, it would light up the whole neighborhood.” JHC made extensive changes to the home—raising the second floor ceiling height, adding a full bath, and reconfiguring the first floor to be more open and modern (including an all-new kitchen and bath). The team also replaced two sets of steps, removed a garage entrance and added new siding, among several other improvements. While the team is not unfamiliar with historic home restoration, they don’t often come across what they found. “Seeing the workmanship, techniques and materials used is always fascinating,” John says. “The exterior plaster on this home actually had green glass pellets, which we’ve never seen before.” John’s team uncovered historical gems—plaster walls (uncommon for a home’s exterior) and a “Nisbet Lumber” stencil (once at the Eads Fence Company). Revealing and refinishing the original wood floors? A highlight for the crew. “We were able to save an older home and make it fresh and usable for the next 50 years,” John says. “It felt great to bring it back from the edge of needing to be demolished. It was so touching to meet Darlene and her brother—and hear them share stories of Christmases together there. They were so happy that someone had ‘saved’ their childhood home.” JohnHillConstruction.com

Our annual clinic is staffed with volunteer U.S. medical personnel … we provide medicines, follow-ups, specialist referrals and pay for any medical services required.” The Cincinnati headquarters of HFHC provides training and resources, in addition to securing sponsorships and raising funds for all operational costs—partnering with individuals, nonprofits, businesses and government groups. One hundred percent of sponsorships and 89% of all other funds go directly to Haiti. HFHC is committed to a high level of financial accountability and integrity, a commitment that has been recognized by independent rating group, Charity Navigator—in fact, HFHC has been awarded their highest rating for seven years. Over the past three years, HFHC has received a perfect score—they’re one of only 11 international charities in the U.S. to claim this stellar rating. “It’s all about these children and giving them a chance,” Tonya says, reflecting on HFHC’s mission. “When they get

GIVING BACK
HIS OWN ZONE
RECREATIONS OUTLET GRANTS GAMING SHED FOR LOCAL MAKE-A-WISH RECIPIENT
THE MAKE-A-WISH ORGANIZATION’S TRISTATE CHAPTER HAS BEEN COORDINATING AND OVERSEEING THE GRANTING OF WISHES TO MORE THAN 17,000 CRITICALLY ILL CHILDREN SINCE 1983. Recently, Recreations Outlet in Milford was awarded the opportunity to fulfill a local child’s wish—to have a custom gaming and movie-viewing clubhouse right in his own backyard. CAZ WISHES Caz, an 11-year-old Lawrenceburg resident, has been battling cystic fibrosis since birth. He wanted a place to escape the realities of life and get away to enjoy what he loves most—gaming and scary movies. Once his wish was approved, Make-A-Wish reached out to Recreations Outlet, who has worked with them for the past 15 years (granting 10 wishes this year alone). To start the wish-granting process, they were given a general idea of what Caz wanted. Then, it was up to them to reach out to his parents to get additional details and requests, according to Recreations’ special projects coordinator, Kayla Blankenship. RECREATIONS GRANTS The pre-built shed was delivered to Recreations, where it was then painted and detailed to Caz’s specifications. “Caz wanted a gaming/ scary movie shed with a loft, and colored blue, green, teal and purple,” Kayla says. “He wanted it to include a porch swing, basketball hoop and a custom sign for the outside that said ‘Caz’s Savage Zone’ ... all of which we were able to [incorporate]!” Kayla added that even though the shed took almost two months to complete and install in the family’s backyard, the Recreations’ staff truly enjoyed being part of wish-granting—giving it their all to bring it together to make Caz happy. Although COVID-19 thwarted plans for the big reveal, Caz was ARTICLE ELIZABETH A. LOWRY PHOTOGRAPHY RECREATIONS OUTLET
surprised nonetheless. “To see the look on Caz’s face as we pulled up ... it was definitely a big reveal in his eyes!” Kayla says. Wish.org/OKI | RecreationsOutlet.com
