We decided to profile the full set in our “Bites, Brews and Views” feature. Bishop’s Quarter, Tano Bistro and Ramsey’s Trailside all boast spectacular views, not to mention a tantalizing menu of items to savor and sip while people-watching from above. We’ve shared our faves. But I’m especially excited about “In the Garden of Eads.” Dale Eads, owner of Eads Fence Co., has created a true botanical treasure right here in Loveland. When the grandparents offered to take the kids for the evening, Mark and Jennifer enjoyed a date night – including relaxing over drinks at Bishop’s Quarter and chatting about their upcoming staycation. First on the agenda: spend time with their kids, biking and swimming at the pool. But they also wanted to get caught up on a few things – including scheduling that mid-year checkup their financial advisor at Family Wealth Advisory Group had called to remind them about. The meeting would cover: • • • •

Tracking their savings plans for the year Reviewing their tax situation to make sure estimated taxes weren’t necessary Address changes in their personal lives that should be reflected in their financial plan Evaluate their 401(k)s to ensure they are taking full advantage of them

Jennifer relaxed knowing they’d enjoy their time off, but would also get a few important things done to keep them on track. To ensure you and your family stay on track, too, contact Family Wealth Advisory Group.

IF THERE’S ONE THING THE HOLMAN BROTHERS KNOW, IT’S TRUCKS—THE BEST FOR HAULING BOATS OR CAMPERS, THE RIGHT SUV FOR WINNEBAGOS OR WINNING TEAMS. Still a family-run business, Eric and Greg Holman have carried on their parents’ dealership tradition (a 1945 legacy born down the road from their current 50 acres in Eastgate). “Our salespeople are schooled on what trucks are capable of doing,” Greg says. “Some stores? The salespeople don’t know if it can carry a broom or a bulldozer.” “Our goal is to match you with a vehicle that will do what you want to do. That’s important,” Eric says. Enter the 2019 Yukon Denali. Far from the typical family truckster, this baby is loaded for luxury—styled to meet the needs of even the most discerning sophisticate. Golf clubs, luggage, gear galore? No problem with 15 cubic feet of cargo volume (more than double that in the longer XL). With seating for seven and capable of pulling more than 8,000 pounds, it’s a beautiful beast that drives like a dream thanks to Magnetic Ride and Adaptive Cruise controls. With lavish features and tech-savvy extras that stand grille-togrille with other full-size heavy hitters as well as high-end opponents (coming for you, Escalade), it’s no wonder the Denali is among Holman’s biggest sellers (despite its hefty $66,000-plus base MSRP). “It’s not the price that sells it—it’s the fact that it’s a big, capable vehicle,” Eric finishes. “It’s comfortable to ride a long distance … it’s solid. Safe. A true sport utility vehicle that’s versatile and comfortable.” Move over, minivans. Step aside, swagger wagons. This family favorite is stealing the show—and the road. WHO: Tano Bistro WHAT TO ORDER: TANO BISTRO When Tano co-owners Gina and Gaetano Williams were renting the space that occupied Tano initially, they weren’t even able to imagine a rooftop dining area, much less build one. That all changed when the time came to rebuild after the fire, as the Williamses then became owners of the space and were able to design and construct the restaurant they always wanted. In addition to remodeling the first floor and finishing out the second floor (which was previously a private dining area), they were able to add in a rooftop dining area. “It was in the original vision when we bought the building after the fire because we thought it would be cool, really,” Gina says. Using longtime designer Crissy Staley, they were able to work quickly, finishing out the two dining rooms and adding an elevator, which, although installed out of necessity, also served to provide structure to the roof. “The view from the rooftop was pretty cool, looking over downtown Loveland,” Gina says. “We wanted something cozy and intimate, like our restaurant is. We call it a ‘little oasis’ because it’s between the other two buildings ... and it’s quiet up there so you can have an intimate, romantic dinner, or you can hang at the bar and order some bar bites—it’s very casual.” BISHOP’S QUARTER Bishop’s Quarter is the newest kid on the block, added as a restaurant post-fire as a way to create another dimension to the bar experience in downtown Loveland, general manager Kevin Malone says. “People enjoy drinking and getting outdoors, and we thought it would be a golden opportunity to tap into that and give Loveland a trendy, cool outdoor rooftop area to enjoy.” For the BQ rooftop (designed by Lupe Lopez), they were looking to create a contrast in themes. While the first two floors boast a French Quarter/speakeasy vibe, the thirdfloor area is much different, more industrial, more of a downtown/sports bar area. “There was an opportunity to tap into a different demographic, utilizing the Loveland bike trail for traffic, plus the regulars who want to stay outside and watch a game as opposed to sitting downstairs and drinking bourbon,” Kevin says. “It just gives another opportunity for people to enjoy it.” And if you’re envisioning turf wars between rooftop bars à la West Side Story, don’t worry, there’s plenty of room for every roof. “We all have our separate visions and vibes,” Kevin says. “I think it’s great for the community, and it makes us a destination area. There’s plenty to go around.” 28

Food—Baked Brie. A wonderful new starter, the baked triple cream brie sits atop a house-made focaccia and is topped with bourbon cherry, berry and apple compote— the perfect summery plate meant for sharing. Drink—White Pillars Sangria. This delicious drink is a mixture of white wine, Canton ginger, basil, strawberries, oranges and cherries ... and is just the thing for rooftop sipping. WHO: Bishop’s Quarter WHAT TO ORDER: Food—Signature Shrimp and Grits. You’ll feel like you’re in New Orleans as you dine on five large blackened prawns, served on top of homemade cheddar grits and finished with a chipotle sauce drizzle. Drink—Hurricane. What’s more New Orleans than a hurricane? “It’s our classic. It’s a staple of the French Quarter and a staple of happy hour here as well, all made in-house with passionfruit syrup, orange juice, grenadine, pineapple juice, light rum and dark rum. It’s delicious,” Kevin says. BishopsQuarterBar.com | 513.214.3882

Carpentry Now, before you think this means you have to strap on a tool belt and safety goggles and hew a new kitchen table out of a single block of wood, we’ve got our sights set a bit smaller. Jason suggests adding finish carpentry such as crown molding, wainscoting, hardwood flooring or chair rails. Finish carpentry is all in the details and can help draw your eye to that high ceiling or frame out your fireplace with built-in bookshelves or an intricate fireplace mantel. You can also use carpentry touches to trim out doors or add other wood designs around windows. Wood finishes like these are easier to do yourself than crafting the aforementioned furniture but can be installed by a pro if you prefer.

Here’s another spot in your home that is easily overlooked. If you have an entryway staircase, consider what kind of statement you could make with a few simple tweaks to your existing stairs or by redoing the steps and banisters all together. “Oftentimes, it’s the first thing you see, so it really shows off the features of the house as soon as you walk in,” Jason says. Ideas for updating your staircase include swapping carpet for hardwood, painting worn wood floors or updating the handrail with a new, more modern one. With just a few tweaks here and there, you can take your home from so-so to seriously stellar. If you don’t have the confidence, time or ability to tackle home updates yourself, call the pros, who can make recommendations and do the work for you—so you can sit back, relax and enjoy your updated home.
