Transform Yourself , Change The World

‘Tis The Season of Giving!
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The season of holidays, presents, and parties with family and friends. When gatherings by the Christmas tree bring joy and laughter. When holiday traditions of food and faith create lifelong, cherished memories. It is the time of year for reflection on all that we have, and most importantly, all that we can give.

In this special issue, we share those stories of giv ing. The stories of people giving their time, talents and love to our community, and beyond. The stories that give us hope and inspire goodness. These are the stories that make our community a family.
During the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, we invite you to slow down and reflect on giving. What can you give to those in need? When have you been given love, charity or peace in a time that you needed it most? How can we make giving a regular part of our holiday traditions? Where can we shine our light?
Author Mary Anne Radmacher reminded us: “As we work to create light for others, we naturally light our own way.” As we admire the glow and twinkle of the holiday lights, let’s make sure to look for those struggling. Be a light, give love, give the gift of joy.
As always, we thank each of you for being here. We’re blessed to live in a place where the gifts of love and light are endless.
Merry Christmas from our family to yours,

HOLIDAY SAFETY TIPS
ARTICLE BY ASHLEY PETERSON
KEEP YOUR LITTLES SAFE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON
Kylee Rogers is the president of Safe Kids Utah, a coalition that implements evidence-based programs, such as car-seat checkups, safety workshops and sports clinics, that help parents and caregivers prevent childhood injuries. She's also a best practice quality expert, ensuring children's toys are safe for public use, and she helps write the safety standards that the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission adopts into law. “My passion is safety education for caregivers and parents. They don’t know what they don’t know.” With holiday gifting, knowledge of hidden dangers is even more vital. Kylee shared some tips to keep your holidays happy.

TIP
2:
TIP 1: BUTTON CELL BATTERIES ARE DEADLY
If swallowed, button cell batteries will cause harm to children. Make sure toys with button batteries are secured and stored correctly. After Reese Hamsmith died from swallowing a button cell battery, her mother worked with battery manufacturers to add bitter coatings and blue dye to batteries, so kids will spit out gross-tasting batteries, and caregivers can tell when kids have had them in their mouths.
PAY ATTENTION TO AGE-GRADING, UNDERSTAND THE SMALL PARTS CYLINDER
Toys marked 3+ aren’t safe for under-threes because kids can choke on them. To identify potentially hazardous small parts, use a smallparts cylinder. If the item fits entirely inside without protruding over the top edge, it is a potential choking hazard. Buy appropriately age-graded toys, and keep inappropriate toys out of reach of younger children.
03

TIP 3: LOOK OUT FOR HIDDEN HAZARDS
Be on the lookout for hidden hazards, including footholds and pinch points, which can cause accidents, and magnets and water beads, which can cause internal injuries if swallowed. Brett Horn, lost his son Charlie in an accidental furniture tipover. He helped pass the STURDY Act, requiring furniture to come with wall anchors, and opened a safety demonstration home in Kansas City called Charlie’s House, now available virtually so caregivers everywhere can learn child safety.

TIP 4: YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW
Do your research! Take safety classes from Safe Kids Utah about toy safety, along with the ‘safe sleep seven’, car seat installation, and more.

Done Local and Done Right
Brady Chance Visker Shares The Story Behind His Auto Glass Shop

It’s been a long, hard road building Second Chance Auto Glass into a successful business, but for its owner, it was worth it.
Brady Chance Visker grew up in Lehi, watching his business-owner dad help people, and his mechanic grandpa working on cars. He decided early on he wanted both—to help people, as a mechanic. He even had a name picked out: 2nd Chance Auto, a nod to his middle, or ‘2nd’, name Chance He started young, apprenticing with the family mechanic in his teens and earning an automotive degree from UVU. Brady worked
in local shops, but didn’t find the environment he’d envisioned. It was time to set out on his own.
His first business location was a tent and table in Kohler’s (now Pioneer Market) parking lot, repairing rock chips. That tent became a mobile business. Then he bought a trailer. Finally, he wanted to expand to windshields in his own shop.
Determined to do things right, Brady spent a month in Seattle training with a mentor, working 20-hour days to learn windshield replacement. It was grueling, but he came home to his patient wife and children with the knowledge he needed to expand.
When he found a workable space in Lehi, it was in rough shape, with little to no maintenance done for decades. Six months, countless dumpsters, and one new roof later, 2nd Chance Auto Glass opened its doors.
Today, Brady runs his business as he always dreamed: helping people with his valuable skills. He has no interest in being the next Safelite; he wants

to stay local, serving the community that’s supported him from the beginning.
Brady admits he’s a perfectionist, but it’s a matter of safety. He could turn a quicker profit if he used assembly-style repairs, but he prefers taking his time to get a secure, solid bond. “Windshields aren’t just glass—they’re structural. Cutting corners can literally kill you, so it’s not something I take lightly.” If a windshield was installed badly and the airbags deployed in an accident, the windshield would pop out when the bags hit them, and it would be as if you had no airbags at all.
2nd Chance Auto Glass now offers complete auto glass repair, including window regulators, wipers, and switches, using advanced calibration equipment to keep modern safety features working properly. Through all the hard work and his family’s sacrifices, Brady has stayed true to his mission: to help people, to do good work, and to serve the community in his hometown.

We offer classes in Jazz, Hip Hop, Ballet, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, and Tap for dancers ages 2 to 18. Don’t miss out on the fun!

Repair, Replace, Recalibrate

that’s a WRAP
DIY Gift Wrapping That Stands Out During
The Season
ARTICLE BY JULIE BROWN PATTON

‘Tis the season to get crafty, clever or characterized! Wellwrapped holiday packages create immediate enthusiasm and somehow seem to make gifts more meaningful. Whether going for shiny, vintage, colorful, rustic, playful or eco-friendly impressions, the following are some Do-It-Yourself gift-wrapping ideas to make the wrapping process even more satisfying. Simply applying jute twine to gifts provides a ‘less is more’ vibe.
ADD NATURAL TOUCHES TO CRAFT PAPER:
For gifts with a rustic, organic feel, use seasonal accents, such as sprigs, pine cones and cinnamon sticks, tied up with twine, encircling recycled paper for the wrapping.
FIRST INITIAL DECORATION:
In lieu of a gift tag, attach an oversized paper mâché letter of the recipient’s first initial to the top of the box. The letter then can serve as customized décor, too.
POLKA DOTS:
Wrap gifts in plain craft paper and then cut out big, multicolored polka dots to glue down. It’s hard not to smile at big, bright dots.
CARDBOARD BOX SNOWPERSON:
Wrap three or four boxes in white paper, with different gifts inside, and then stack them. Tape the boxes together,

the SEASON

tapering to the top. Glue buttons on the bottom ones, create a snowperson’s face on the top one, with carrot nose cut out of orange paper. Attach a real hat, if desired. Tie wider, festive bow around the snowperson’s ‘neck.’ Add a real corncob pipe for a bonus finishing touch, if preferred.
MINI TREE GIFT WRAPPING:
Pine needles and small tips of real tree branches make quick and easy mini Christmas trees that can be glued onto Christmas gifts. They will smell nice, too.
BOOK PAGE WRAPPING PAPER:
Repurpose old book pages by cutting out
shapes of dreidels, snowflakes, ornaments, candles or reindeer to paste on gifts.
DIY STAMP WRAPPING PAPER:
Wrap gifts in solid colors of paper. Secure ink stamps and an ink pad in a themed color(s), and stamp the paper as much or as little as desired.
UNBOXED:
Apply other types of containers, rather than boxes or bags, for gift wrapping; examples: canisters, pillow cases, baskets, fabric scraps, maps, glass containers, towels, blankets, scarves, Bento bags (also called triangle bags or origami bags).

unique GIFTING
ARTICLE BY MEL BOBAN

SEASON
The holiday season is officially on, and gifting is top of mind. We’re all used to scrolling online, browsing the malls or hitting the local boutiques, but sometimes it’s fun and unexpected to switch it up. If looking to surprise and delight recipients this year and to bring a new tradition to the season, offbeat gifting can be a great way to turn a new leaf on stale routines.
1) PRE-HOLIDAY SURPRISE. For those traveling, send gifts early, such as cheeses, fruit or pies.
2) FUTURE FUN. Browse winter or spring events; snag tickets to enjoy with recipients.
3) GENEROSITY. Donations make heartfelt, thoughtful ideas.
4) TRAVEL. Gift a loved one with a trip.
5) TIME. Is a recipient busy, overloaded and overworked? Treat them to a whole home cleaning before or after the holiday.
6) LOVE OF LEARNING. If a loved one is planning international travel, grab them a gift card for a language learning app.
7) THOUGHTFUL MESSAGES. Ask friends and family to record loving messages on cellphones; combine recordings using a video app for meaningful holiday greeting.
8) BON APPÉTIT. Sign up special someone for cooking class regarding favorite cuisine, or cuisine they struggle to make.
9) RECIPE BOOK. Gather traditional family recipes and create printed books for guests as priceless keepsakes.

OUT OF LOVE
THE LASH BAR'S MELISSA WATTS ON WHAT'S IMPORTANT
ARTICLE BY ASHLEY PETERSON

At The Lash Bar, giving has always been part of the story. What began as a local salon for lashes, brows, and beauty has grown into a community that believes in lifting others—both here at home and around the world.
From day one, the vision was simple: create beauty that gives back. Through The Lash Bar and Melissa’s product line, Hello Darling,
proceeds help fund programs that support children, education, and empowerment in places where opportunity is scarce.
“I’ve always believed in acting from love, not fear,” says founder Melissa Watts. “You don’t wait until life feels perfect to give—you just start.”
One of the projects closest to her heart is I Am Zambia, where daily school meals help children stay in class and focus on learning. When Melissa first visited, she turned an empty classroom into a small salon to teach beauty skills—and quickly noticed many of the students were coming to school hungry. Providing food became the simplest, most powerful change. Now three years later, those same kids are thriving, staying in school longer, and smiling brighter.
Over the years, The Lash Bar family has supported missions in Ghana, Mexico, Belize, Cambodia, Colombia, Ethiopia, Ecuador, Ukraine, and Zambia, joining teams that build homes, restore vision, and create sustainable sources of income through projects like brick-making and farming.
Melissa says the most rewarding part isn’t the trips or the photos—it’s the ripple effect. “I used to keep quiet about this work, but I’ve seen how sharing it encourages others to do something—start a project, donate, volunteer, or just show more love in their daily lives. That’s what really matters.”

“I’ve always believed in acting from love, not fear.”
—MELISSA WATTS
Every appointment, every product, and every boutique purchase helps fund something bigger. “Together, we’re proving that beauty isn’t just about how we look—it’s about how we show up for others.”
“Transform yourself, change the world”

Welcome Home, Sienna!
The community helps a Saratoga Springs family navigate the journey to their 5-year-old’s new heart
On September 26, 5-year-old Sienna Barton and her family were welcomed home in a block-party style celebration, after she spent nearly 1,000 days in hospital care.
That sense of community bonding goes beyond cheers, welcome home posters, smiles and hugs. Thanks to neighbors, friends and generous donors, tens of thousands of dollars were raised in the spirit of a little girl getting a new heart.
Life for Sienna hasn’t been easy in her short time on earth.
Her parents, Francesca and Fano, said she was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. The condition is rare, and it means the left side of her heart was not fully developed—forms of treatment include surgery and heart transplants.
Sienna has endured multiple open-heart surgeries since birth, and in January 2023, she developed severe heart failure. She was admitted to Intermountain Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, where she’d undergo cardiac rehabilitation treatments.
“She spent her third, fourth and fifth birthdays inpatient,” her mother Francecsa said.
The Bartons recounted the emotional, mental and financial toll of having their daughter experience a life-altering condition.

“We could not have done it without our community out here, because they stepped in and helped us when we thought we were stretched too thin,” Fano said.
During Sienna’s nearly two and a half years inpatient at Primary Children’s, she was placed on a waiting list for a heart transplant, but the wait lasted longer than expected, so Francesca said they made a decision to travel to a hospital in Texas, where they’d have a better chance at finding a donor. More than $50,000 was raised with the help of community members who organized a GoFundMe campaign and the Claire the Heart Warrior foundation to help cover travel costs.
“And they raised it all for us to be able to get Sienna there in about two weeks.”
The family traveled to Texas at the end of May 2025, and a couple weeks later, Sienna had her new heart.
Fano hopes their family’s story can help spark others to have conversations about what it means to be an organ donor—and the

potential of saving a life. “Sienna is only alive today because another little family chose to let their little boy be a donor,” Fano said.
The Bartons are happy to have their Sienna back home after a total of 975 days in medical care as she slowly progresses to newfound strength and energy.
Speaking of energy, the Bartons said it was electric when they pulled into their Saratoga Springs community late last month for Sienna’s homecoming and saw more than 100 people cheering in her honor, including Jaclyn and Peyton Gerber of Gerber Photo and Film, who normally capture weddings around Utah and donated their photography and videography services so that Sienna and her family will never forget this special occasion.

Fano and Francesca said the parade was the culmination of the past years of endless hospital visits, medical bills and surgeries, with support from dozens of community members there every step of the way.
“For that many people there in one place, and [to] realize; holy cow... this is what it took to get here—it was incredible,” Francesca said.
While Sienna’s journey to a healthy heart isn’t quite over, as the Bartons said she will continue with physical therapy sessions, in addition to checkups in Texas, they’re now focused on rebuilding their family life and hope to someday pay it forward to another family in need of the same kindness and healing they’ve received.
