Adrienne Miller, who was for a decade the literary and fiction editor of Esquire, didn’t know that she was writing about Ruth Gipson. In her chapter for a series called, “Growing up in Style: Six Writers on Discovering Fashion in America,” she lauded M. O’Neil’s high-end fashion department, the Topaz Room, as a place of wonder. For her, “It was my own private portal to an adult world of elegance and grandeur, good manners and good sense.” For my mother, Ruth Gipson, the Topaz Room department she built bore witness to

the fact that knowing how to dress women could sustain an oasis of haute couture in Akron, Ohio. With the help of a marvelous mentor named Agnes Madden, Ruth not only mastered the arts of buying, merchandizing, selling, exceptional customer service and even event planning for designer “trunk shows” -- she became the highest grossing buyer in the entire May Co. department store chain. It’s a jaw-dropping accomplishment for a woman who grew up on a farm in Tennessee having to wash and iron her only dress so she’d have something fresh to wear to school the next day. Any ensemble is only the sum of its parts, so it is with particular glee that mom and I read Adrienne’s own recollections of a sage-colored silk Donna Karan bodysuit,

NOW IS THE TIME TO SELL

We’re in the ultimate sellers’ market right now. If you’re a homeowner thinking about selling, you have a huge advantage in today’s housing market. High buyer demand paired with very few houses for sale makes this the optimal time to sell for those who are ready to do so. Here’s an overview of what’s creating the prime opportunity to sell this summer.

HIGH BUYER DEMAND Demand is strong, and buyers are actively searching for homes to purchase

LOW INVENTORY Purchaser demand is so high, the market is running out of available homes for sale

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? If you’re thinking of putting your house on the market, don’t wait. A seller will always negotiate the best deal when demand is high and supply is low.

CLASSIC MUSTANG CONVERTABLE SOMETIMES STYLE IS A FUNCTION OF BEING ONE-OF-A-KIND. It’s rare, and so shows selectivity, even if the market of the time didn’t embrace it. (Shawshank never won an Oscar.) Sometimes it is evocative of a past experience -- something we lusted after as a kid and vowed to have when we got older or conversely something we only grew to fully appreciate when it was gone. These six selections from the Upperville Colt and Horse Show’s Classic Car Show on a Sunday in July were some of our favorites for one or more of the above reasons. the commitment to sustainability are inspiring. While New York may be focused on always expressing the ultimate in designer chic, in LA designers are willing to “try it on,” tweak and reiterate until something takes off. And, because brands and their warehouses are literally around the corner from each other, the people she meets shopping, eating and working out all are connections that may matter professionally. Echoes Robin, “I think everyone here is a bit more progressive and open-minded, I’m so thankful to have been given a chance to prove myself so early on in my career. In my experience, there is more of a youth culture here, and it creates the ideal environment for anyone straight out of college looking to branch into skincare, fashion or music industries.” This fall, they’ll visit trade shows and maybe an Indie fashion show or two (see p. 46) to stay plugged into what’s next, and the cycle will begin again. for antioxidant protection alongside your SPF. Robin uses “Topical C” by the Nue Co. She just shakes a bit into her Lapcos Red Collagen Serum and is protected from the elements. Always follow serum with a moisturizer, such as Lapcos’s Biome Boost. Lastly, add a layer of SPF. 2. “Retinol and hydration, the holy grail, supply all your skin needs to thrive at night.” Start with The Ordinary’s Hyaluronic Acid Serum or Lapcos’s Hyaluronic Acid Mask. Next, apply Paula’s Choice Retinol. Then apply either Lapcos’s Restore Shot or Quench Shot (two of the three sleeping masks launching this month) for a boost of hydration and nourishment overnight. 3. “I’m obsessed with sheet masks, I use one every day.” After work it’s either the Lapcos Collagen Mask or Escargot Mask. On the weekends, she’ll use the Lapcos Vitamin C mask in the morning for extra antioxidant protection and an undeniable glow.

SOFTWAVE ORTHOTRIPSY powered by TRT

Patented, unfocused electro-hydraulic waves generate shearing forces that trick healthy cells into behaving as if a new injury has occurred. This triggers the body’s own natural healing cascade, which includes the activation and recruitment of stem cells.

ACOUSTIC WAVE THERAPY USED TO HELP SPINAL AND JOINT PAIN PATENTED TECHNOLOGY

In physical terms, these shock waves are acoustic waves with a brief rise time of a few nanoseconds, which are characterized by a pulse of positive pressure followed by a phase of incredibly brief negative pressure (tensile pressure). The tensile pressure of this unique sound wave is accompanied by a negative pressure that creates a beneficial biological response.
