Lean on Love February is here and this month we celebrate Local Love. Just a few years ago, I got to experience Lebanon's love firsthand. It was March of 2021 and my warehouse, right off the Lebanon Square, was filled with almost 6 feet of water during the flood. I pretty much lost most all my business belongings (and many personal belongings too) to the waters and I felt hopeless...especially just coming out of Covid. It was like angels appeared out of nowhere... almost instantly. Neighbors and strangers were stopping by with cleaning supplies, Chick-Fil-A brought breakfast and lunch, fellow business merchants were checking on me, the Lebanon Fire Department dropped in with buckets and shovels to move out the mud and debris in my shop. When I think back, it brings tears. What a community! They all rolled up their sleeves and asked what I needed. They poured out their love. Although we all felt the sadness that the water brought, we too all rose like the water and helped one another rebuild. I saw so much beauty from the storm as ironically as it sounds. Lebanon is incredible and I am grateful to call this my town. I learned to lean on love in this town. While we teeter between the chill of winter and the excitement of Spring, we hope you’ll be inspired to take a moment to come together with the people in your life. The ones in your home and on your street. In your neighborhood and your community. As Helen Keller said, "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much". And we continue to see that demonstrated through the many stories told in these pages month after month. This community bleeds love and locks arms over and over. I've seen it many times. This month I encourage you to show the love! Give back all you can...love on your co-workers, love on your favorite businesses, love on your neighbors, love on family and love on yourself. Our hope is that we inspire you to love it just a bit more than you did before. We hope this month you spread seeds of love throughout our little town...day after day. We shape our buildings, thereafter our buildings shape us, Winston Churchill said just five years before Capitol Theatre opened in 1949, lending its state-of-the-art craftsmanship and

reminisced, “I immediately fell in love with the Capitol.” “The Lebanon people are the friendliest of anywhere we have lived,” says Mr Black, explaining that

bringing Technicolor movie technology to the downtown Lebanon blueprint. Constructed by Marvin Head, a contractor known for his quality, many still call the masterpiece the best built building in town. The charm and architecture were not lost on Bob and Pam Black when they landed in middle Tennessee in 2001. He recalls being mesmerized by the building, purchasing it as soon as it became available in 2012, following years of vacancy. “I spent years growing up traveling with our family as my father was in the Air Force, and most Saturdays I could be found in any local theatres where we were stationed,” Bob Black

before choosing Wilson County his family had settled in Texas to complete school and began working in the retail industry. He later took a senior position in the merchant credit card industry before moving back to middle Tennessee and starting another company in the same industry that he sold in 2014. Since 2012 the Blacks have been lovin’ on Lebanon through Capitol Theatre, whether it’s through restorations and renovations to keep the building in shape, or supporting as many causes and organizations as they can. “One of our favorite things about Lebanon is the giving spirit here. We try

to focus on the needs by giving to groups such as CAC, WCBHC, Habitat, Sherry's Hope, New Leash on Life Community Foundation of Wilson County and CU,” he says, continuing to explain an exciting new community focused men’s group. “Shawn Smith and I have formed a group of Gentlemen called One Hand Up, similar to the ladies group 100 Women of Wilson County, to make it easy for individuals to make giving a natural part of their budget without the need to get actively engaged in a non-profit,” he explained, “ We are excited where it will go in supporting local community non-profits. We couldn’t close out an interview with an old building owner without asking everyone’s burning question, is it haunted? Bob just says, “As in many old buildings there are sounds that you would swear are not just an old building talking to you.” So we will have to let readers and visitors decide that one for themselves. Looking for entertainment this winter season, definitely mark your calendars for January 27, when The Last Five Years Musical comes to the stage, followed by February 9-18 when the Bonnie and Clyde Musical set up residency. Plus Heather Land brings her sarcastic southern comedy tour for one night only, February 2.

I’d been the good girl all my life: I’d climbed every ladder and checked every box and if you saw me from the outside, I had it all. The career, the love, the family life. But on the inside? My nervous system didn’t care if I felt at ease, calm, or safe. It wanted to make me feel like if my wheels weren't spinning, something was wrong. I became overly anxious and hypervigilant, always worrying about everyone else and what they thought about me. I’d been battling people pleasing and perfectionism all my life, so imagine my surprise when it still showed up, even when my life was perfect, at least on paper. Did you feel that in your bones? Whether you’re a business owner, boss mom, side hustler, momtrepreneur, or woman looking to process out of trauma, coaching may be a space for breakthrough. Beka Gaskin knew she had to make a change in order to live the full life she was called to, and from those experiences of digging deep alone, she now works to help women uncover the rare beauty that’s always been underneath, so they can feel more confident, safe, and secure in their bodies, no matter what’s happening on the outside. “I knew I had to make a change and that I was the only one who could do it. So, I started studying the nervous system, somatics, and trauma so I could self-create a sense of joy, easefulness, and satisfaction,” she explained. As her healing progressed, she developed a process that allowed others to walk through healing the way she did. “I always say that a coach shows you the playbook. I lay everything out in my workbook and it’s a comprehensive guide to connection to the nervous system, discovering parts of ourselves, our attachment style

and making the goals and desires of the client safe in the body,” she says. As a coach, Beka walks with you to uncover patterns that no longer serve you, restore dignity, and show you that you are braver than your worst fears, using a down to earth, educational approach that shares the science of somatics and regulating the nervous system, without feeling like you’re in a PSYCH101 college classroom. Clients find self-healing with someone who is vulnerable and authentic, being able to share common experiences and feelings along your storyline. “I love connecting with new women who have tried everything and are tired of holding it all up. Once they binge my insta or check out my webpage and feel a connection to my work, they can click the link to set up a discovery call at a time of their choosing,” Beka explains, “On that call, we will talk about how they are feeling now, how they would like to feel and how likely they are to get there on their own without support. We will talk about the logistics of the program as well as how the container can support them in their goals. If it feels like a good fit for us both, we will set up a time to meet weekly whether in 1:1 work or group work, as coaching spots are available.”

LOOKING FOR A LITTLE SELF - LOVE THIS FEBRUARY? BEKA SHARES THESE THREE STEPS TO LOVING YOURSELF A LITTLE MORE THIS MONTH OF HEARTS AND FLOWERS BECAUSE YOU DESERVE THAT WARM AND FUZZY FEELING.

1. Awareness - The first step would be noticing yourself. How can we begin to love ourselves at all if we aren’t connected to what we are actually experiencing? Noticing the sensations in our bodies, being able to CONTINUED >

be curious about our feelings and emotions and making time to create safety and stability in our nervous systems allows us more insight into our needs and our voice. What can often hold us back from self love is an old blueprint that if we want to keep love we have to hyper-fixate on everyone else’s needs. This can keep us connected to others, but at the expense of our own inner world. This can make it so easy to blame others, get resentful and feel comparison for our own lack of self care. If we can find the courage to reconnect to our own sense of self, we can often be open to the idea of what we might need to create the experiences that restore our well-being and connection to joy. 2. Attunement - Once we are able to track sensations in our nervous systems and know what it is we need, not only can we begin to meet those needs, we can also notice how our old adaptive survival responses might be holding us back from the life we want. By becoming aware of these things, we can show up for ourselves in new ways. It can be really empowering to learn new ways to navigate moments of dysregulation. It can also help rewrite old stories, because as we take care of ourselves in new ways, we can show ourselves that it is safe to receive the kind of care and compassion that we truly need and desire. 3. Allowing Support - Co-regulation is one of the key factors in healing from old patterns, past traumas and the

nervous system. Without safe connection it can be very unlikely to experience the kind of transformation or change we desire. With safe support by our side we are able to step into the new found connection to our inner world with just the right amount of neural challenge. It can be very overwhelming to try and make changes alone, oftentimes replaying the cycle of past shame. Not only can it be supportive as we try new ways, but receiving the right support can give us the ability to celebrate our progress and stay connected to the anchor of connection even in challenging seasons. Lastly, Beka says don't let fears hold you back, "You are worthy of discovering and experiencing the life you desire. Your life doesn’t only have to look good from the outside, it can also feel good on the inside. No one else can take care of you like you can. What will be different in your life six months from today if you don’t allow yourself to receive the support you need to become the person who you have always been?" mpower Me Center is thrilled to share that they have received a ONE MILLION DOLLAR gift towards Phase One of their Capital Campaign. This anonymous gift catapults the project, bringing them to 3.5 million towards their goal of five million! Chief Executive Officer Michelle Hill shares, “We could not be more grateful for this incredible gift. The timing is perfect! To date, we have had much infrastructure work completed and the pads have been placed for both the Phase One and Phase Two buildings. We anticipate

Local businesses are the heart of Lebanon, from the creators, visionaries, doers and leaders to the producers, growers, feeders, and cheerleaders, we love them as much as they love on us. Screen printing, embroidery and promotional printing business, SouthEast Impressions (SEI), is no exception to the diverse resources Wilson County is lucky to have. But this local love story goes just a little deeper. We caught up with Ben and Maggie Spurlock who are continuing a second generation legacy of serving and giving started nearly 30 years ago. At SEI, every day is a love story, as we were reminded that finding your soul mate sometimes happens in the most unexpected guise, like their story that started with a career choice.

WHAT DREW YOU INTO GRAPHIC DESIGN/ PROMOTIONAL MATERIAL PRINTING?

Ben: My Mom and Dad started the company in the mid 90s. So I spent my whole childhood growing up around it and helping around with whatever I could. When I was 16 I started helping more often and would spend my summers working in the shop, continuing this through college. Once I graduated from college I decided to come join full time and the rest is history! I love the industry because things are constantly changing and evolving which keeps you engaged or you will fall behind. Continuing to grow and find great employees to be a part of that is a big thing for me. I enjoy the part of seeing the employees succeed and be successful in life. Maggie: I graduated from UTC and got a job in screen printing sales right after college at SouthEast. I had a background in marketing, design + communications. Ben's Dad hired me in 2016. I started working out front at SEI at the desk for five years, and now do a little bit of everything from helping in departments of billing, artwork, and customer service. For me it's not about the shirts, it's more about the

relationships + meanings. A lot of shirts have a bigger meaning behind them, something more important. Then there are the people that stop in daily who usually have some pretty touching; I have met a lot of eye opening, genuinely sweet humans through SEI over the past eight years, whether it be customers or employees, one being Ben! It's funny because we did meet through SouthEast, but the way this place was set up and our jobs at the time, we worked here for years without ever even having a conversation, other than when jobs would be completed. We started hanging out through mutual friends outside of work and really hit it off. People say they don't know how they would be able to work with their significant other, but we wouldn't have it any other way.

HOW DID YOU PICK LEBANON FOR YOUR PRINTING BUSINESS?

Lebanon is home for both of us. We were born and raised here and the company was started here as well. As we continue to grow, Lebanon will always be home. It's also a great center point for our employees as they come from cities all around Lebanon to work.

• The company has grown from two people in the beginning, to a company with presently 50 employees and running two shifts. • The target in the SEI logo is actually a registration mark that is used to line up multiple colors for different designs. Fun fact inside a fun fact: with technology changing, registration marks aren't needed much anymore if at all! • As we do a lot locally for businesses and schools, we actually ship all over the country from coast to coast and even have some international orders every year. We love giving back to the community, anytime someone comes in from a school or charity asking for help, we are here for them. I believe in helping people in need, not only with groups in our community, but we also work closely with We Do Recover to help people in recovery with a stable job. This helps people who are in rehabilitation to get their feet wet and get back to working. Picking favorite charities is always tough, but just to mention a few, we love working with Sherry's Hope and Empower Me. Sherry was our neighbor growing up and that organization will always have a special place in our hearts. My family, especially my two brothers, have

always actively volunteered with Empower Me, and we love seeing what they are doing in the community.

SEI is a local business, but has grabbed national attention in our industry. We will continue to go to shows and keep the most up to date technology in our business to help our customers have the best experiences and products. Along with helping others in the community, we also love to help out other shops in our industry. We are firm believers in helping out others, instead of looking at them as competition. We work closely with a lot of shops around the country with technical issues or if they need help getting jobs done. And we would like to say thank you to anyone who has ever supported us.
