Hello Summer!
Well, here we are...sweet, sweet summertime! I hope this letter finds you laying by the pool or lake and soaking in some much-needed Vitamin D. Or even gardening, if you have passions like mine. There is just nothing like fresh summer vegetables! Or grilling. Don't you just love the scents of summer...fresh cut grass, delicious foods sizzling on the grill, fresh sliced tomatoes, suntan oil, smores roasting on the fire? It's pretty heavenly.
As the days grow longer and the weather gets warmer, I find myself eagerly anticipating the arrival of summer and slowing down a bit. There's just something about this season that brings about a sense of excitement and adventure. It takes me back to being a kid...pool parties with friends, camping and boating at Center Hill with my family, fishing with my grandparents on Defeated Creek, catching fireflies with my little sister. It was always full of laughter and fond memories.
Even with the busiest of schedules, I encourage you to stop and play a while this summer. The days go by so fast and the older I get the more I realize how quickly they are gone. Play. Splash. Explore. Laugh. And most importantly, Live.
The pages in our Summer Fun issue will help you make the most of this season in Lebanon and even nearby, in small towns I love. We are so fortunate to live so very close to many honey holes and places to explore. And even if Summer doesn't mean three months of summer vacation anymore (because we're, you know, adults) we can still look forward to an adventure by crossing things off our ultimate Summer bucket list. Check out the fun list we threw together for you guys! (P.S. Teachers, you deserve this muchneeded break too!)
My gang loves the outdoors and we are looking forward to heading to the family cabin in the Ozarks this summer. I am looking most forward to the quiet of nature, swimming in the lake and cozy fires after a day in the sun. There is something about camping that feels so rejuvenating and refreshing.
Just like this season has a way of gathering people together, we hope the pages inside this month’s issue will enrich and enliven your experience of Summer too!
Now go unplug, grab the kiddos and the camera and venture off the beaten path!

YOUR BACKYARD OASIS IS WAITING
ARTICLE BY LINDSEY HICKMAN615 Outdoor Living Builds Dreams
When it comes to Wilson County, summer and fall evenings are best spent enjoying the picturesque weather and sunsets, braving the occasional thunderstorm under your porch or covered patio. Those memories are exactly what drew Tony and Gwyn Kosinski to founding 615 Outdoor Living. Whether it’s enjoying a hot day in the pool, a cold day in a stunning enclosed pool, barbequing or smoking in your outdoor kitchen, sitting fireside while the rain comes down under a covered patio, making personal pizzas with the kids, or a glass of wine by the fire pit circle with friends, 615 Outdoor living exists to customize your dream backyard oasis.
“We have a passion for helping people design and build their own backyard paradise and really enjoy the satisfaction we receive when our happy customers see and experience the end product,” says Gwyn, the company’s Chief Operating Officer.
Gwyn and Tony have been residents of Wilson County for more than 10 years. Gwyn grew up in Nashville, and spent 30 years working in the corporate supply chain industry, while John attended Overton High School, Tennessee Tech, and then MTSU for his graduate degree. Tony moved to Tennessee in the early 90s after serving in the US Army for many years and has been in
the construction field since. Both are proud to call Tennessee the home where they raised their four now adult children, and where they plan to retire when the time comes.
“We enjoy the small town feel of the Lebanon area, yet also like being close to the hustle and bustle of Nashville and the convenience of the Nashville Airport,” says Gwyn, “We are passionate about meeting and helping new people in the area and bringing a smile to their faces as they see their backyard projects progress and finalize.”
Backyards are a great place to bring family and friends together to enjoy the great outdoors and to bring people closer together.
Gwyn says her favorite words to live by are “Cherish your yesterdays, dream your tomorrows and live your todays,” and what better place to do that than in a new backyard.
615 Outdoor Living provides swimming pool, patio, outdoor kitchen and detached garage design and construction, and also sells Big Green Eggs, outdoor grills, fire pits, grill accessories, outdoor furniture, outdoor décor, pergolas, pizza ovens and much more in the Lebanon, TN area. A Home Builder’s Dream Vacation Home
“We had always known we wanted to build and own vacation rentals so, when the perfect property came up for sale we knew we couldn’t pass it up,” says Lee Knight, owner of Paradigm Building Group, “We built The Manor as a home away from home with all the amenities you would want in your own home.”
The Manor is a one-of-a-kind new construction home built less than half a mile from Fishlipz Grill at Pates Ford Marina on Center Hill Lake. This dream vacation home is on Airbnb, ideal for large family getaways with more than 4000 sqft boasting five bedrooms and a total of 10 beds. This immaculate property includes a hot tub, private pool, large fully equipped kitchen, two masters, two large outdoor decks with a gas grill and Traeger smoker, ping pong, theater, bunk room, and a private wooded area to watch deer, squirrels, bird and fireflies.
“We built The Manor as a home away from home with all the amenities you would want in your own home,” Knight said, “As custom home builders we don’t always get to put our own touch on things so it was nice to see our own vision come to life and let others enjoy it too.”
As a custom home builder by trade, Lee has seen it all when it comes to amenities, so when he and his wife started planning their own dream vacation home, they put that vast knowledge to use, creating the most meticulously crafted property.
Knight says one amenity they were not going to skimp on was the pool, “There was no doubt in our mind once we started the build we had to have a pool.”
“The pool, hot tub, grills, porches, decks and fire pits, just being able to enjoy the fresh air are my favorites,” he explained, “the peaceful surroundings of nature and proximity to the water are why we chose this lot. And the theater is our favorite way to end the days.”
Airbnb began in 2008 when two designers who had space to share hosted three travelers looking for a place to stay. Now, millions of hosts and guests use the platform to rent privately owned homes like this one by the night for safe communication, payments, and reviews of previous bookings.
Guests at The Manor have unanimously left five stars, commenting, “Our group had an incredible time... Lee and Melody’s home was immaculate and exceeded our expectations with its beautiful surroundings and ample space for our three families,” and “You can walk to/from the marina and go fishing or rent a boat during your stay, but you truly don’t need to leave the property. The home is a destination in itself and delivers a memorable vacation experience.” CONTINUED >
Many guests have also complemented the Knight family for being incredible hosts, both quick with communication and very helpful.
Lee says they have also had a good experience renting the space to guests, and they love being able to share their home with others. “Honestly, we have had some of the most wonderful guests already. Groups that come in and treat the home as if they understand someone has put their hard work and time into it. They clean up and communicate well. Respectful, considerate and thoughtful.”
Looking for the perfect weekend itinerary for a guest staying at the house? Here is what Lee says his would be.
“The perfect weekend in the summer would start with grilling steaks and veggies on the grill with a night swim and s’mores by the fire. Waking up to coffee on the back deck and renting a pontoon at Pates Ford Marina for the day swimming and fishing while exploring waterfalls and coming back to have dinner at Fish Lipz Restaurant. Head back to the house to relax, play some darts and watch a movie in the theater. Sunday morning cook a huge breakfast on the back deck and enjoy a relaxing morning swim before heading out.”
If you’d like to book this masterpiece, you’re going to need to get on it. The calendar for the manor is already filling quickly into fall. Search The Manor At Center Hill Lake on airbnb.com to find it and read more.
LAKE LIFE IN MIDDLE TENNESSEE
Upon arrival, we found the resort to be just as promised online. Check-in was easy, a great market with snacks, ice cream, plus things you may have forgotten. The layout of the property made the accommodations feel secluded yet accessible at the same time.
WILDWOOD RESORT AND MARINA, WHERE RELAXATION
MEETS ADVENTURE
Whether you’re searching for a romantic retreat complete with massages, great wine and relaxation, or a riverside adventure, Wildwood Resort and Marina offers both, with everything in between.
On a recent last-minute getaway, my husband and I came across Wildwood Resort and Marina in Granville, instantly drawn to it online by their informational, well laid out website. Their branding was clean, amenities were extensive and their restaurant menus were enticing. The hardest part was choosing whether we wanted to stay in a lakefront cottage, tiny cabin, a floating cottage, the inn, or in the Airstream village. They also offer full size cabins that sleep far more than we needed, but we made a note for future family trips. We ultimately booked a stand alone waterfront cottage and could not have been happier with the choice.
We booked massages, drank actual Champagne from France and watched fish jump from the deck for hours. Read books, did some laptop work using the free Wi-Fi, and enjoyed live music in the evening. We debated a canoe, kayak, or paddle board rental, but decided to keep our trip less adventurous and a little more gluttonous, so we spent a lot of time with their dining menus. There are three dining options at the resort, including the cafe inside the market, a deckside food truck and the main Lakeside Restaurant. As foodies, and restaurant owners ourselves, we couldn’t have been happier. Since the resort is rather secluded, it was so nice to never have to leave the property and truly be satisfied with the options available. On our visit, we ordered almost everything on the seasonal menu, had dozens of cocktails and never wished for more.
Comfy beds, great amenities, blankets for evening firefly watching, food and wine, with hideaways throughout, Wildwood Resort and Marina is truly an all-inclusive property offering whatever experience you are looking for.
I caught up with the owners, John and Natasha Deane, to find out some of their inspiration and a little background. In January 2018, as longtime lovers of the area, and Granville residents, they purchased the old Granville Marina and immediately began the renovations that brought Wildwood to life. They strive to share their love for hospitality with their community and every guest that visits.
Wildwood is a four-season resort and though summer fun on the lake is considered the most popular time, the side seasons are what truly make the resort feel like a hidden gem. The natural quiet setting, hiking trails, Tennessee's longest boardwalk and nearby attractions in Granville keep Wildwood as a destination yearround for getaways, family and group gatherings and corporate retreats. There is free live music every weekend with activities like corn hole and bocce ball tournaments, yard ping pong, a new swimming beach area, and a well-maintained hiking trail.
Because I was super impressed with the wine list I had to know about how they curated it. Turns out, like me, John and Natasha are true wine lovers and world travelers who enjoy discovering new wineries and vineyards. They recently spent some time in the Bordeaux region and sent back several amazing bottles to offer on a specially curated wine list. But that doesn’t mean they forgot about the bar. The full spirit list and well-collected bourbons keep it balanced, along with great cocktails of course. John told us his favorite cocktail and menu items are the Manhattan and Sutton's Sirloin and for Natasha, it’s the Strawberry Basil Gimlet and Dillard Creek Salmon, and I would have to agree with all four choices.

Summer Time Skincare Routine Check
WITH ANNIE WHITE, APRN, CRNA, CO-OWNER OF THE REFINERY:
MEDICAL AESTHETICS AND WELLNESS
ARTICLE BY LINDSEY HICKMANSummertime is everyone’s favorite time of year! But before you soak up all of that sunshine, Annie White, APRN, CRNA, co-owner of The Refinery: Medical Aesthetics and Wellness in Lebanon has a few summer skin care tips that you can implement into your summer routine.
Summer skincare includes different products that help to protect and hydrate your skin. Annie says the most important product in your summer routine should be sunscreen.
“You should wear sunscreen all day, every day. Even on cloudy days and days when you stay in the house. If you are in need of a good, protective sunscreen, swing by The Refinery and we can help find the perfect one for you!” she explained.
If you treat your skin well and give it what it needs, it may return the favor by staying radiant, youthful, and beautiful for years to come. The sun may feel amazing on your skin, but it can also come with serious health and aesthetic consequences if you spend too much time without protection on!
So how do you protect your skin? Annie gave us this must do and must void list to keep you glowing this summer and for years to come.
WHAT ARE THREE MUST DOS AND THREE DO NOT DOS FOR TAKING CARE OF YOUR SKIN DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS?
DO:
1. Use broad spectrum SPF daily.
2. Include antioxidants (Vitamin C) in your skincare regimen.
3. Wash your face two times a day to remove excess oil.
DO NOT:
1. Forget to hydrate.
2. Forget your lips.
3. Forget to reapply your SPF every 2-3 hours.
WE KNOW ALL SUNSCREEN IS NOT ALL CREATED EQUAL, CAN YOU TELL READERS WHAT THEY SHOULD BE USING AND MAYBE AVOIDING?
THREE TIPS FOR CHOOSING A GOOD SUNSCREEN:
1. SPF 30 (or more)
2. Make sure it's "Broad Spectrum" to that it protects against both UVA and UVB rays
3. If you're outside or going to be in water, make sure it is a type that will hold up on contact with water and/or sweat.
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO REPAIR SUN DAMAGE IF YOU WEREN'T GREAT ABOUT PREVENTING IT WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG?
Vitamin A, also known as Retinol, helps increase collagen production, facilitates cellular turnover, and can combat nearly all the signs of sun damaged skin. Retinol is like a “magic eraser” for the skin. It can help fade brown spots & hyperpigmentation and even smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. Laser treatments can also be really helpful! And, as always, consistency is key when it comes to applying medical grade skincare.
Have more skincare, anti-aging, hair and skin restoration questions? The Refinery offers comprehensive aesthetic and wellness services to provide the best client outcomes. Services offered at The Refinery include but are not limited to aesthetic injectables, skin resurfacing services, and PRP hair restoration.
"We believe in the use of different services and techniques tailored to each client’s treatment plan to achieve the individualized goal of a more refined you!" www.therefinerytn.com

SPECIALTY COFFEE Q&A
ARTICLE BY LINDSEY HICKMAN
Local Veterans set the standard since planting Split Bean Roasting Co in 2018
There’s nothing better than coffee with a cause, and supporting a Veteran owned business that then supports small farmers all over the world is the whipped cream on top. We caught up with Christopher and Nina Cox to hear about how they went from the Army and Marine Corps to roasting beans and serving specialty coffee in middle TN.
WHAT GOT YOU INTO SPECIALTY COFFEE?
I learned to love coffee through my experiences while stationed in Europe. When I returned home I was unable to find a coffee that lived up to what I had grown accustomed to so I began researching coffee to order and found I could roast green beans. The adventure started with pan roasting in the house, which I was quickly banned from ever doing again due to the amount of smoke that comes off the coffee. I built my own roasting drum since it was a hobby at that point and did not want to invest in a commercial machine. I was self-taught from online research and materials from the library. Over time, the hobby grew and grew. I took courses on roasting, purchased a small commercial machine, and began to refine my craft and product while selling to friends, family, and an ever expanding circle of new customers.
WHY LEBANON?
I was born here and grew up in this area. I wanted to bring something to the square that was missing. There was no food or drink at the time, so my wife and I took the leap of faith to start the Split Bean Roasting Co coffee shop in 2018. Lebanon is unique in that it is very much a growing city with a downtown vibe, maintaining its small-town charm. People very much support small, locally owned businesses.
WHAT ARE THREE THINGS PEOPLE MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT SPECIALTY COFFEE?
1. Light roasts have a higher caffeine content than dark roast.
2. Everything from the soil the coffee grew in, to each little adjustment during the roasting process, to the grind and water you brew it with changing the flavors of coffee.
3. Hot water draws out more of the natural acids and caffeine in coffee, so if you find yourself sensitive to coffee, then give Cold Brew a try.
DIY Your Way To a Bug-Free Summer
Adult- and Kid-Friendly Natural Bug Repellents from A Beautiful Mess

Adult Blend Kids Blend
(age 15 and over)
MATERIALS:
• 10 drops lemon essential oil
• 10 drops lemongrass essential oil
• 8 drops lavender essential oil
• 8 drops eucalyptus essential oil
• 1.5 ounces distilled water
(minus 1 teaspoon to make room for the essential oils in the bottle)
• .5 ounce 95% proof grain alcohol*
INSTRUCTIONS:
In a 2-ounce spray bottle, add the grain alcohol (or Solubol) and drop in essential oils. Swirl to combine. Place the cap back on the bottle. Allow the oils to disperse in the alcohol for about 1 hour, then add distilled water, swirling again to combine.
MATERIALS:
• 10 drops lemon essential oil
• 10 drops lemongrass essential oil
• 4 drops lavender essential oil
• 1.5 ounces distilled water
(minus 1 teaspoon to make room for the essential oils in the bottle)
• .5 ounce 95% proof grain alcohol*
INSTRUCTIONS:
In a 2-ounce spray bottle, add the grain alcohol (or Solubol) and drop in essential oils. Swirl to combine. Place the cap back on the bottle. Allow the oils to disperse in the alcohol for about 1 hour, then add distilled water, swirling again to combine.
*The grain alcohol is used as a preservative as well as a carrier for the oils, but you can also use a product like this instead of grain alcohol at a 1:4 ratio (1 drop essential oil to 4 drops Solubol) if you’d rather and then just fill the rest with water to fill the 2-ounce spray bottle.
While there can be concern about citrus oils on the skin when exposed to sunlight, lemongrass isn’t a photosensitive oil, and if lemon essential oil is steam-distilled rather than cold-pressed (Oui Fresh essential oils are cold-pressed) it can be used on the skin. So just make sure to note which one your lemon oil is and only spray on clothes if you don’t have a skin-safe lemon oil (which is an application method a lot of people prefer anyway if they are more sensitive to oils).
