Letter from the Editor THE HOLIDAYS ARE UPON US, AND AS THE FESTIVITIES APPROACH, ALL OF THE WARM FEELINGS AND MEMORIES THAT I HOLD DEAR FROM CHRISTMAS’S PAST COME RUSHING TO MIND. This is most definitely my favorite time of year, and for many reasons. I love the traditions and the beauty of the season and

watching my kids experience the wonder of the holidays as I once did. This time of year brings back a flood of memories of my grandmother and all she did to make this season special. Christmas was by far her favorite holiday, in which she hosted all 60 people in our family each year at her home. Although she has since passed, the atmosphere she created and the love that she shared through all she did to make the holidays special still lives on in all of our hearts. She truly blessed all of us with lasting memories of Christmas Eve night shared with family, and all of us are carrying on many of the traditions she started with our own families. I was given a few of her Christmas decorations after she passed, and every year when I pull them out of storage, it evokes strong emotions of being back in her home on Christmas Eve. My favorite holiday item that I got from her is the brass electric candles that once glowed in her front windows to greet us as we came to her door. It always looked magical to me, and as I put them in my window each year, I get that familiar feeling I felt every time we pulled up to her house on Christmas Eve. As simple as those candles are, they represent the feelings of love, contentment and holiday spirit to me. I am grateful for the family I have to celebrate the holidays with and dearly miss the ones who have gone on. There are so many people alone during this season, and it only takes a little bit of effort to make someone feel loved or thought of during this time. Our city is a city full of people who love to give. If you don’t have a local resource or organization that you are already plugged into, look in your neighborhood for someone who spends the holidays alone. There are so many ways to bless those around us during this season.

Botanical Brewfest 2018 October 13th was the fifth annual Botanical Brewfest at the beautiful Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens. “I have been fortunate to perform in Asia in such countries as China, Vietnam, South Korea, Indonesia and Thailand; in the South American countries of Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil and Ecuador; in Europe; and throughout North America. My favorite place to play was Carnegie Hall in January 2013—that probably represented the height of my career, the place at which every classical musician aspires to play. Performing “the Rhapsodie in Blue” by George Gershwin with the South East Kansas Symphony in October 2013 was also a super emotional experience as that was the first concert my twin sons heard me play in.” Natenberg’s music has evolved over the years, growing with her and reflecting her own personal experiences. “My music has become more personal, expressive and meaningful. I am always searching for new colors, sounds, shapes, textures, phrasings and new means of expression. I feel that my musical performing has increased in its dimensions and depth over the years. The more I learn and grow, the more dimensions there are. There are so many wonderful opportunities to keep learning and growing by living life fully, by studying music of various composers, by learning to play different musical styles and through teaching and collaborating with other artists. I keep discovering more angles and the infinite possibilities for expression of this art. It never ceases to amaze me. It is such a rich life of endless opportunity and variety.”

After working for Magnolia in Waco, Texas and winning awards while working for a local builder, she decided it was finally her time to start her own design company. She stays busy during the holiday months setting up clients’ homes and offices for the holiday season. Besides holiday decorating services, she offers a wide variety of services such as virtual design, new construction design services, renovating, staging and furnishing services. “My favorite part of helping clients with their decorating is reconnecting with my them each holiday season. They each have a unique style that speaks to their personality and style. It’s so much fun continuing to recreate the decorations that have inspired many memories and traditions for their families,” Megan says.
