DAY. This month, Lake Murray Lifestyle has the men's issue, but everyone will enjoy reading this issue for sure. In addition to great, local gifts for dad for Father's Day, we are also delving into some features that spotlight guys in our community who are movers and shakers, dreamers and makers and all around great people. Read all about City-Connect Air Center, our big feature this month. Mark Oelhafen has created something special in Columbia by creating an aviation one-stop-shop that includes office space, hangar space, updated amenities and new offerings. His bold plan has attracted some big-name tenants too, like Stemme, Stratos, AirSTAT and more. Did you know there wasn't a Zeibert franchise in our state? Well, there is one now, thanks to one of our local businessmen. We have that feature for you too. We also have some service features that explain how to prolong the life of your home

The Lexington Medical Center Foundation led a fundraising campaign to build this new space where people can visit for peaceful meditation and reflection. The inside of the chapel features a custom piece of stained glass that depicts a river and flowers created by Fielding Moore of Shenandoah Restorations in Irmo. It took thousands of pieces of glass and more than 900 hours of labor to complete. The chapel is open for hospital visitors daily.

CAROLINA LOCATION AS THE WORLD’S LEADING PROVIDER OF AUTOMOTIVE SERVICES TO CLEAN, ENHANCE, AND PROTECT THE VALUE OF CARS AND TRUCKS. Bob Morris, South Carolina’s first Ziebart franchisee, offers a full line of appearance and protection services for both the interior and exterior of vehicles, including Professional Detailing, Window Tint, Ceramic Z-Gloss® Paint Coating, Z-Shield® Paint Protection Film, Sprayed-on Bed Liners and much more. Company in 1990 as a sales rep in the Augusta, GA area, and through the end of 2018, he worked for major pharma and biotech companies as a sales rep, training manager, and sales manager.

When searching for business opportunities in Columbia, Bob came across Ziebart. He discovered there are currently no Ziebart stores in the entire coastal Southeast! Bob opened his own auto and truck detailing and customizing business at the end of 2018. The Ziebart franchise for Columbia was purchased in February of 2019, and despite several delays, it was finally wrapped up in early January of this year. Bob has already received a verbal commitment from two local businesses for about $50,000 a year in sales and services. One is from Jon Davis, the owner of Golden Motors in Columbia. They sell about 60 used 4x4 trucks a month. Jon said he would send Ziebart 5-6 spray-on bed liners a month. The other is West Chatham Warning devices in Lexington which up-fits new vehicles for police, rescue, and fire duty. Bob has known the manager, Denise Stewart, since middle school. She says they will send Ziebart a minimum of 24 spray-on liners and 24 truck bed covers a year. Because of the proximity of the store to Lake Murray, there is also a huge opportunity to do ceramic coating on boats too. “My son Cooper has a passion for cars too, and I wanted to have a business that could be passed along for many generations. After visiting their world headquarters in February of 2019, we decided to take the plunge and paid the franchise fee for the Columbia, SC area,” Bob said. “After overcoming many obstacles, we completed construction of our 5,950 sq ft store and opened on January 14, 2021.” Bob’s son, Cooper, completed four years of auto tech training in high school. In addition to earning his Automotive Service Excellence certification, Cooper was named “Auto Tech of the Year” by his teacher his senior year. CityLifestyle.com/LakeMurray

And then I started the process of upgrading it. It was in very sad shape.” Oelhafen upgraded all the equipment, lights, runways, office interiors and more to make the aging hangars into an inviting facility. As a pilot himself, he recognized the lack of available hangar space, and he knew the need for a flight school was huge in the area. The current partners of City-Connect Air Center include: 32

THE FUTURE OF AVIATION (CONTINUED)

The City-Connect Air Shuttle Aircraft

“If you fly to Martha’s Vineyard or the Bahamas with four or five other couples, that first-class private air travel is more affordable than you think,” he said. In addition, City Connect will help AirStat expand business and area of service by bringing high-quality charter aviation to Columbia. “City-Connect and AirStat will be able to help each other grow as we offer a full range of private aviation services. The facilities at CAE are perfect for our needs and future growth,” he said. STEMME The center then earned a high-end specialty partner in Edgar Van Schaik, Managing Director of STEMME. STEMME is a German glider manufacturer that specializes in high-performance, motorized gliders. Van Schaik describes these aircraft as “lifestyle purchases,” and City-Connect offers the perfect mix of space, complimentary tenants, and location. “STEMME is a luxury product. The majority of our owners have two or three other aircraft that they use to go from A to B,” Van Schaik said. “Whereas the STEMME is used in more of a recreational manner. It’s the most beautiful form of flying there is. It’s flying for the fun of it, and not just to travel. We have also incorporated a flight 34

What Mark is doing here at City-Connect is client-centered and solution-based, and truly it sets this facility apart from anything else.” said Van Schaik. AMS COLUMBIA Frank Schumpert, owner, and founder of Aircraft Maintenance Services Inc., (AMS) is an aircraft maintenance business for City-Connect Air Center as well. AMS performs FAA required inspections on single and multi-engine piston and turbine aircraft. Their capabilities also include avionics repair station along with 100 hour, annual and continued airworthiness inspection programs. AMS provides service to help aircraft owners who have landed at airports with no maintenance. They’ve traveled to destinations in the North, throughout the Southeast and as far as Haiti and the Bahamas. Schumpert plans to grow his business at Columbia Metro, adding more maintenance services for City-Connect customers that will be available at CAE. He is currently setting up equipment, parts and getting ready to operate at City Connect. Frank earned his pilot’s license when he was 21 years old. He then went into aircraft maintenance earning his airframe and powerplant 1982. Later earning Inspection Authorization rating in 1985 and has been in aircraft maintenance since starting in 1978. Frank started his own business in 1993 (Aircraft Maintenance Services, Inc.) and has worked throughout the past 28 years improving AMS to provide the best service for his customers and friends. City-Connect Air Center is unique in not only bringing in partners from the outside of the Columbia Metropolitan Airport Area, but also that City-Connect Air Center invests physically and financially in each of their partnerships. “I didn’t want to take business from any of the other FBO’s in the area, my goal was to bring in additional business from outside of the Columbia Metropolitan Airport Area.,” Oelhafen said. “I want to grow City-Connect Air Center, not off the backs of my fellow aviation business neighbors but bring in talent and resources from partners that would not have come to Columbia Metropolitan airport without the facility and resources of City-Connect Air Center, LLC. Top 5 Benefits Of A Boat Lift

1. peace of mind Untying a bunch of dock lines and boat bumpers every time you go out will be a thing in the past. Even more importantly, you won’t have to worry about your boat sinking at the dock if something damages it. A boat that is splashed around in the water can get a lot of wear and tear; even a little damage to the hull can cause serious problems with your boat if you’re not there in time to fix it.

2. prevents damage Storing a boat in water is one of the main causes of damage below the water line and can contribute to many other problems that your boat encounters. Water can cause a lot of stress on your boat and will shorten its life, not to mention, boats kept in the water are more susceptible to hull blisters and other damages to props and shafts.

3. prevents corrosion and algae build up Algae is a big concern if you keep your boat in the water. Corrosion can also occur and lead to leaks if you’re not careful. Keeping your boat above the water creates an environment in which algae will not grow and corrosion can be avoided.

4. saves money now and in the future Damages caused by wear and tear or corrosion can get expensive. Therefore, a boat lift can save you money over the years by not having to do as many repairs and routine maintenance adjustments.

5. ensure quicker, safer boarding This could be extremely important for many people - especially if you have a Pontoon Boat and want to have parties with several people. If you keep your boat in the water, the changing water levels and lack of stability of a floating boat could make it a little precarious to get on and off. Having your boat on a lift means you're right at dock level and there's no movement involved when you board.

STALLINGS’

WORKOUT ARTICLE CITY LIFESTYLE

SCOTT STALLINGS DISCOVERED HIS INTEREST IN GOLF AT THE YOUNG AGE OF 3. But it was the “aha moment” for his love of the game that came in 1997 when Tiger Woods won the Masters and would forever change the entire landscape of the industry, as well as what Stallings would aspire to achieve in his future professional endeavors. Little did he know at the time, however, not just how successful he would become, but also how an unforeseen health compromise would also rock his world, and his cross training, for the better. He was a seven-time tournament winner and was an All-American while attending Tennessee Tech, and he has won on the PGA Tour three times as a professional golfer. Flash forward to the year 2016: It became a life-changing year he never would have anticipated; one filled with strife as he learned he had been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea and acute adrenal fatigue. It was a result of some unhealthy nutritional habits, both of which affected his ability to continue effectively as a professional athlete. With the guidance of doctors, surgeons, and his good friend Rich Froning, a four-time Crossfit champion, Scott developed a workout to trim 60 pounds, boasting 10% body fat, revising his daily eating habits, and sleeping healthily through the night. Had Scott not gone to the doctor because of that innate fear, he never would have known the diagnosis of sleep apnea that needed to be addressed. Luckily for Scott, he didn’t have an overwhelming, crazy life overhaul. Instead, he was able to find one small thing, delivering simple systematic changes in his workout that led to his improvement in fitness and quality of life. “You only get one body,” he says. “Golf is a grind, but don’t let physicality get in the way of your game,” Scott says.
