OCAL RESIDENT CAMERON TRINGALE’S PRECISION
AROUND THE GREENS HAS MADE HIM ONE OF THE MOST CONSISTENT PLAYERS ON THE PGA TOUR FOR THE PAST DECADE. Already this season Cameron has recorded 4 top-10 finishes including a standalone 3rd at the RSM Classic, a T-3 at the Valspar Championship, and a T-7 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. When not on tour, Cameron enjoys visiting and playing all of the local courses he grew up with. We asked him to tell us about his favorites and what he likes best about each. Golfers enjoy!
“I love the variety . . . and the green surrounds are all really well kept”
EL NIGUEL COUNTRY CLUB This is my home course when I’m in town, and I can’t say enough good things about it. It’s kept in amazing condition and has the best poa annua greens in the County… just a really nice place to work on my game when I’m home. I love the variety of uphill and downhill—and the green surrounds are all really well kept. Chipping and pitching are
C A M E R O N T R IN G A L E
strengths of mine and I enjoy testing myself around the greens there. The membership is full of wonderful people who have welcomed me into the club. It’s a classic, tree-lined beautiful golf course in fantastic shape. The practice area has everything I need when I’m home training for the PGA Tour and it’s a terrific spot for my family. I just love everything about El Niguel. The course gives me a lot of options. I can play conservative back behind a lot of the trouble out there like fairway bunkers and such; or, if I’m feeling like I want to test myself, I can hit a driver on almost every hole and really force myself into some tight fairways. So it really is a great spot. I can’t say enough good things as an all-around club. El Niguel Country Club a very special place in my heart and I’m really proud to be a part of it.

SAN JUAN HILLS GOLF CLUB San Juan Hills is a fun, playable golf course where I played quite a bit growing up. My grandmother used to live on the 15th hole. So, at night, after play was done and it was getting dark, my brother Jon and I would work on our chipping and putting on the green by her house. We would look for balls up on the sides of the hills and she lived so close to the tee box that she got quite a few balls in her backyard. Needless to say, we always played with free balls! It’s just a really fun course to play when I was just starting out and it was more friendly for the novice golfer. The lay of the land is cool with nice up and down topography and I spent a lot of time at that driving range. I have a lot of fond memories from San Juan Hills Golf Club. We played twilight golf quite a bit back then and we were always trying to beat the sun. Often, we’d only make it to the 15th before dark.

SANTA ANA COUNTRY CLUB Santa Ana is one of the most unique courses around. A good friend of mine, Gavin Reid, is a member and when I’m in town, we play there quite a bit. The best thing about Santa Ana is the greens—the purist bent grass greens around. It’s great practice for the PGA Tour as those greens are fast and true. It really tests your putting and how well you’re matching up line and speed. I actually had my lowest round ever last Fall at Santa Ana. Magical 59! It was super thrilling to shoot that number, especially with a good friend watching. And just to feel some nerves like that, on a week off, was really cool. I love Santa Ana Country Club. It’s definitely one of my top fews courses in the area. Photo: Mike Wolfe/PGATOUREntertainment
MISSION VIEJO COUNTRY CLUB Mission Viejo Country Club is probably the toughest golf course in our area. When my brother and I played for Mission Viejo High School, we called it Mission Impossible. Still do. Tee to green requires good ball-striking and you have to be on the right spots on the greens to have a chance. It’s a really diverse course and you’ll need every club in your bag when playing there. There are doglegs right-left, left-right, uphill, downhill, short, long... it really tests your game. I like to play there before Torrey Pines, the Honda Classic, or some of those tougher golf courses on the PGA Tour. Mission Viejo taught me a lot. I’m really glad I was able to play so many rounds there growing up. I’m a better golfer because of it.

LOCAL MEN WHO ARE MAKING OUR WORLD A BETTER PLACE
SETH R. TEIGEN, FACHE Seth Teigen’s healthcare career began at age 14 and today he’s chief executive of Providence Mission Hospital overseeing all aspects at the Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach hospitals and Providence Mission’s associations. Teigen is proud of his alma mater, The University of Wisconsin, as evidenced by the vast collection of Badger memorabilia in his office. He says it’s a daily reminder of, “that time in my life, my alma mater, and the importance of our work.” A passionate and humble leader, Teigen came up through the ranks washing dishes at his hometown hospital then providing patient care followed by leadership positions in virtually every department of the hospital. He reflects on this past year and jokes he would not have picked a global pandemic as a team-building exercise, although in many ways it turned out to be one. “I was blessed with an experienced senior leadership team and an incredibly engaged medical staff. I believe the Mission Hospital team feels a deeper connection to one another and I’m humbled to be in their presence every day; they are my heroes.” While Seth takes immense pride in his work, his greatest accomplishment is family. He and his wife, Nicole, have two young boys who share his passion for golf and of course Wisconsin Badger sports! providence.org

SUPER MEN
L AVA L B R E W E R Meet ‘Super Man’ LaVal Brewer. Well-versed in all areas of nonprofit leadership, LaVal is the president & CEO of South County Outreach, whose mission is to prevent hunger and homelessness by helping people help themselves. LaVal grew up in South Los Angeles as part of a middle-class family and a part-time summer job at Culver City Parks & Recreation Department provided the initial spark for nonprofit work. Over the past 32 years, SCO grew from a food pantry aiding a few families in need to a multi-service provider of food, housing, rental and utility assistance, homeless prevention coaching and counseling, and computer skills training. In his first year at the helm of SCO, Brewer transformed the organization’s Food Pantry into a grocery store experience with options for nutritious and healthy food. In March, the nonprofit’s fundraising enterprise, Upscale Resale, went through a major transformation at their new location in Laguna Hills, raising money through sales of donated items (clothes, home goods, and furniture). Brewer is an Elder at the Presbyterian Church of the Master in Mission Viejo where he resides with his wife and three daughters, who provide him with inspiration every day. sco-oc.org

TREVOR BAIRD In 1984, Trevor Baird’s family moved to the new community of Laguna Niguel, a city he still calls home. Husband and father to two young boys, he’s the namesake of the popular San Juan Capistrano eatery, Trevor’s at the Tracks. With the motto, “Locally Acquired/Globally Inspired,” Trevor’s opened in early 2017 in a building with a rich history. Built in 1894 as a train depot, it’s one of the first examples of Mission Revival architecture with deep arcades, a corner domed tower, and a red Spanish roof. Trevor was in hospitality for over two decades and managed the former Sarducci’s Restaurant Depot before renovating the space with tremendous family support while paying great homage to its history. Trevor’s features a front garden, a small Trackside Café, a large outdoor patio bar, and unique spaces for special events. He recalls some rough times during the pandemic but feels fortunate to have weathered the storm that in fact created opportunities for smarter operations. An avid surfer, Trevor’s is environmentally conscious and certified “Ocean-Friendly” by the Surfrider Foundation. As for the cuisine, “We aspire to be an all-scratch kitchen and use local ingredients whenever possible. We don’t do these things because they are trendy - we do them because it’s the right thing to do.” trevorsatthetracks.com
