The rhythm of the annual calendar is such a gift. It’s a fresh start every time. Most of us probably feel a sense of gratitude for the chance to change some things, reset the clock and start over as January 1 rolls around. For many, that comes in the form of several New Year's resolutions. Things we want to do differently, better, or something new. Eat less junk food. Work out more. Read a book a month. You know the drill. This year, I’m skipping all the things I can do to improve myself. I’m not interested in my best life or being the best version of myself. Instead, I want to work on being a different and better husband, father, friend and co-worker. I want the lives of the people around me to be better, because I am in their lives this year. I want to be kinder. More loving. More open to reason and willing to learn. I want to grow in humility and learn how to serve the people around me without expecting anything in return. I want to think about myself less and think about others more. As a follower of Christ, this looks to me like being more like Jesus. As I think about health and wellness, this is what it looks like to me. This is the healthy and well I want to be. At the start of 2026, I challenge you to think about how you can be a better person to those you interact with daily. If we all go after this, it’s going to be a great year. The Club Expands Its Legacy Wellness and Aloha are Shared from Kona to Kealakekua For nearly four decades, The Club has been a cornerstone of health, wellness and community on the Kona Coast. What began as a shared vision among friends and family evolved into one of West Hawaiʻi’s longest-standing fitness institutions—and soon, that legacy will expand to Kealakekua. Owner and President Jeff Lee traces his roots back to Oʻahu, where his family comes from Mānoa Valley and Waikīkī. Though Jeff was raised in Hilo with two brothers, he moved to Kona in 1983. “Family on every island,” he says with a smile. His deep island ties and lifelong athleticism shaped both the values he carries and the business he has built. Jeff never set out dreaming of gym ownership. Instead, his passion for movement—and the teamwork sports instilled in him—led him toward a profession centered on shared goals. “I’d like to be known for contributing to the community with a business built on cultural values of respect and inclusion,” he says. Those values guided The Club from the start. The early years, Jeff recalls, were marked by many challenges, but the belief in a bigger cause always pulled him through. “When the ‘why’ is big enough, the ‘how’ figures itself out.” That outlook continues to define The Club today. Jeff Lee’s own routine reflects that philosophy: early morning stretching and meditation, a weight-room workout and an ocean swim or surf before settling into office hours.

Evenings often end with sunset pupus, and weekends are reserved for camping, hiking, or hunting up mauka. Vice President Roxie Zendejas, who joined The Club nine years ago, remembers meeting Jeff under unlikely circumstances—while boarding a plane to leave the island. He offered her a director’s position based solely on a conversation and her qualifications. “That level of faith in people defines who Jeff is—genuine, heart-led and loyal,” she says. Zendejas, originally from California, calls her years at The Club “the longest relationship I’ve ever had.” She has grown with—and because of—the members, staff and community. “People show up for their health for decades. That’s why this space matters,” she shares. Her partnership with Jeff has weathered the highs and lows of nearly a decade. “We’re united by one goal: doing what’s best for The Club, our team, our members and our community,” she says. Their work environment reflects that, filled with equal parts dedication CONTINUED >

and humor—plus a rotating cast of gym pets over the years, including a cat, a duck, chameleons and now a dog named Ollie. As The Club prepares to open its second location, Kealakekua is top of mind. “It’s a follow-up of Kona’s location to the community of South Kona—one that has so far been missing,” Jeff says. While the exact January opening date is still fluid, construction and preparation are underway. The Kealakekua site will honor the spirit of The Club Kona while offering a modern, refreshed experience. Zendejas describes it as “a space for everyone,” featuring new equipment, Olympic lifting platforms, sled-pull lanes, functional training zones, virtual Les Mills classes and saunas for recovery. Above all, both leaders emphasize that The Club is, and always has been, about people. Members range from competitive athletes to kūpuna who simply believe in staying active. Zendejas points to her oldest client, age 94. His advice: “Never stop.” For those considering joining, she offers this: “The Club Kona is more than a fitness center—it’s a family.” Jeff echoes the sentiment, “Come and experience us for a month. It’s not just a gym. It’s a lifestyle of long-term health and camaraderie.” Stay tuned for The Club Kealakekua’s January opening at TheClubKona.com.

The Future is Here with Sophisticated, High-Tech Options for Achieving Whole-Body Optimal Well-Being

Technology Tackles Wellness Dr. Dave Arthurs, committed to holistic medicine from an early age, has been practicing osteopathic medicine for nearly 40 years—18 of those spent treating patients in Idaho. In 2005, he brought that experience—and his wife Ruth—to Hawaiʻi Island, where they established Hawaii Family Physicians: Comprehensive Care for the Whole Family in the heart of Kailua-Kona. Today, that practice has grown to include three physicians, Dr. Arthurs, DO, Dr. Nathan King, MD and Dr. Beth Catanzaro, MD; two physician assistants, Excel Barayuga and Paul Kyle; and a highly skilled support staff and office management team.

ExoMIND uses a form of TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) treatment with advanced technology for deeper, more focused stimulation, allowing it to reach key areas of the brain which are involved with emotional regulation, cognitive function and self-control. This is achieved, Dr. King says, by activating neural pathways to restore healthy brain activity and enhancing neural connectivity for mental wellness. Not only has the treatment, which requires six sessions over two weeks, been proven effective for a growing number of patients worldwide, but 90% of those individuals report the treatment is comfortable and well tolerated, he says. EmSculpt Neo simultaneously delivers heat and magnetic energy to accelerate fat reduction while building muscle by using a non-invasive approach that leads to weight loss and a more toned body. Emsella is used to treat both incontinence and sexual health issues, using high-intensity focused electromagnetic technology to strengthen pelvic floor muscles. With patients CONTINUED >

Wanting to do even more to help people in our community, Hawaii MedSpa was integrated into the practice in 2021, and earlier this year, it was renamed Hawaii Island Wellness Clinic. The clinic offers body contouring, incontinence and, new this year, mind-strengthening treatments. Cutting-edge, high-tech, non-invasive and FDA-cleared devices from BTL Aesthetics, a global leader in medical innovation, are used. Branded as ExoMIND, EmSculpt Neo and Emsella, the highly sophisticated devices offer revolutionary and effective new options for individuals looking for an alternative to medications and/or more invasive procedures. “We are the only provider on Hawaiʻi Island to have all three of these specialized devices from BTL. We invested a lot of money in this equipment because they treat so many conditions—and they are safe,” Dr. Arthurs says. Mental and emotional health are part of a balanced wellness program; the recent addition of ExoMIND allows them to treat the body from head to core, he says.

sitting comfortably in a specially designed chair, the device delivers thousands of muscle contractions to improve control. According to Dr. King, interest in alternative, holistic health options such as these has exploded since COVID. Both Dr. King and Dr. Arthurs, with their commitment to helping people achieve optimal wellbeing—both body and mind—continue to research and learn about emerging treatments. MY PERSONAL EXOMIND EXPERIENCE For those of you who know me well—and I mean really well—you know I can be a little extra at times. That is, quick to become overly excited and much too enthusiastic. On the flip side, anxiousness, closing in on outright neurotic, sometimes occurs. Yes, I own it! When I was assigned this story about new offerings at Hawaii Island Wellness Clinic, I imagined hearing about and witnessing demonstrations of cutting-edge equipment that deliver enhanced physical results for a well-tuned body. That turned out not to be the case! Along with about a dozen individuals interested in learning more, I was introduced to ExoMIND, the most recent breakthrough treatment for depression, anxiety, cognitive decline and PTSD. I was intrigued. However, when offered the opportunity to experience a full 24-minute treatment myself, the extra kicked in: sweaty palms, quickening pulse and a strong dose of fear settling in. The thought of a magnetic device on the top of my head sending signals into my brain without any direction from me, oh no! I guess I forgot to mention I’m also a bit of a control freak. Then, remembering the last words my mother said to me many moons ago, “Be brave,” I took a deep breath and was all in. Oddly enough, after a

week of anticipation—read worry—leading up to my appointment, it turned out on the day of that I was uncharacteristically calm. After signing the consent form and asking millions of questions—all expertly and reassuringly answered by Kaylee Barido and Malia Iwashita, the two medical professionals delivering the treatment—I was ready to get started. Settling into the comfortable, reclining leather lounge, the device was placed precisely on the left side of my head. Next, the exact amount of TMS for my individual tolerance was quickly measured. It was easy, breezy and completed in less than five minutes. What followed was 24 minutes of relaxing, light tapping on the side of my head with soft music playing in the background, and both Kaylee and Malia at my side the entire time. The 24 minutes flew by, and once apprehensive, I was now sorry my ExoMIND treatment was already over. While the treatment is often described as brain exercise, in my experience, it was a perfectly gentle, blissful massage of the mind. In a word: Amazing! Learn more at Hawaii-MedSpa.com.

AN EASY MEAL TO FUEL YOUR BUSY WEEKS WITH FLAVOR AND NUTRITION

CURRY CHICKEN & ‘ULU SALAD ARTICLE BY JASMINE SILVERSTEIN | PHOTOGRAPHY BY FLETCH PHOTOGRAPHY

This Curry Chicken and ‘Ulu Salad is a foolproof, do-it-yourself meal prep dish for even the busiest weeks. It’s hearty, flavorful and easily customizable—spice it up, mellow it out, or load it with herbs. The star is locally-grown ‘ulu (breadfruit): a nutrient-dense staple full of fiber and quality carbs that keep you energized. Whether you’re packing lunches or wanting an easy, make-ahead dish with local flair, this salad offers nourishment, convenience and a little taste of Hawaiʻi in every bite. Makes about 8 servings.

CURRY CHICKEN AND ‘ULU SALAD Main ingredients:

• 2.5 pounds chicken thigh or breast, boneless • 1 cup chicken broth • 3–4 tablespoons of your favorite curry powder • 1.5 pounds ‘ulu, fresh or frozen Braise chicken over low heat with broth, curry and sea salt, until internal temperature reads 165°. Steam ‘ulu until fork-tender.

Prep additional ingredients: • 2 cups celery, finely diced • 2 cups carrots, peeled and shredded • ½ cup frozen peas

• ½ cup green onion, finely sliced • ½ cup cilantro, finely sliced • 1 cup toasted macadamia nuts

Sauce:

• 6 tablespoons mayonnaise of choice (we prefer avocado oil mayo) • 2 tablespoons coconut aminos • 3–4 tablespoons lime juice • 1 teaspoon black pepper and/or chili flakes, for additional spice Once the chicken and ʻulu are cooled to room temperature, cube them and mix everything together. Taste and adjust. Chill until ready to enjoy!

THE BEAUTY OF INTEGRATIVE CARE BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN CONVENTIONAL AND ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE THROUGH INTEGRATIVE CARE FOR LASTING HEALTH, FROM THE INSIDE OUT

Kellie Acosta, PA-C, Physician Associate

28

LOCA L LIM E LIGH T | WELLN E SS

When Dr. Kristina Roberts, ND, founded Kona Integrative Health a decade ago, the integrative health options available in Kona were sparse. “We started out as a staff of three offering a medically-grounded source of comprehensive, truly integrative care,” says Dr. Roberts, whose own experience helped her better empathize and relate to her patients. “I personally sailed through life in great health until I experienced a life-changing accident while hiking in 2016 that required extensive physical therapy. I’m not really sure how I survived. It was humbling, but I was so grateful to know what it was like to be a patient.”

“When you get on the other side of chronic illness, it’s the best feeling ever, knowing that that person has their quality of life back.”

Dr. Roberts recognized the necessity and value of conventional care, but began working to bridge the gap between treating symptoms with medication and identifying and treating the root cause. What started as a small practice has grown into a team of 16 experienced medical professionals. At the heart of the practice is a commitment to integrative care, a method that harmonizes the principles of conventional and alternative medicine. Through this blended approach, the team provides temporary symptom relief and long-term solutions for overall health and well-being. The solutions range from primary medical needs and intravenous (IV) therapy to peptide therapy and EBOO. “A lot of the patients I see are at the end of their rope. They’re desperate for answers, which are seldom straightforward. I spend a lot of time listening to them and asking detailed questions not just about medical history, but about stress, relationships, diet, environmental/ work exposures and more,” says Dr. Roberts. “The main deterrents of health aren’t always found in blood tests, so there’s a lot of out-of-thebox thinking and specialty tests, such as a gut microbiome analysis and toxic burden assessment, which can help to reveal the root cause. And when you get on the other side of chronic illness, it’s the best feeling ever, knowing that that person has their quality of life back.” Recently renamed, Kona Health & Aesthetics tailors treatments to meet each patient’s unique history, needs, culture and health goals. “Peptide packs are one example of how we design therapies specific to the patient. About five years ago, we were the first medical practice to offer this therapy,” says Dr. Roberts. Short chains of amino acids, peptides, are crucial in regulating the body's various physiological functions. Enhanced muscle recovery, weight loss support, improved skin health and a strengthened immune system are just a few of the benefits of peptide therapy. The medical center is also home to an IV therapy clinic. An effective, safe treatment for numerous conditions, IV vitamin therapy allows for 100% absorption of essential vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. “These days, you can get a vitamin IV almost anywhere, but what sets us apart is that we offer advanced IV therapies such as EBOO, curcumin, quercetin, methylene blue, cerebrolysin and more,” says Dr. Roberts, adding that formulas are custom-made for each individual. “And more recently, we brought extracorporeal blood oxygenation and ozonation (EBOO) to the Big Island.” Jenefer Greg, an RN specializing in EBOO, explains that EBOO is a cutting-edge therapy that filters and re-oxygenates blood with medical ozone to remove pathogens, toxins, and inflammatory molecules, while promoting systemic healing and optimal vitality. Although Greg began her career in the operating room, gaining experience across a broad spectrum of surgical specialties and patient care, her focus shifted to regenerative and integrative medicine in 2020. “I had a friend who had Lyme disease, and EBOO made such a difference for them. So I realigned my clinical expertise with my passion for longevity and wholebody wellness through EBOO. I moved back to the Big Island, where my husband is from, and approached Dr. Roberts about bringing EBOO to Hawai’i. We were the first medical provider to offer it, and now people from other islands come over for EBOO therapy,” says Greg.

“Some of my patients are focused on longevity. Others are very sick with chronic illnesses or autoimmune diseases. Many are trying to get off painkillers or cholesterol meds. I give them hope and help them heal their body from within with nutrition, EBOO and other therapies,” says Greg, who has witnessed people reclaim their health and rebuild their immune system. “EBOO is like an oil change for your blood. It filters out physical debris from your blood and brings your viral load down. Ozone gives you wings!” On any given day at Kona Health & Aesthetics, one patient may be receiving EBOO therapy, while another may be with board-certified Physician Associate Kellie Acosta for hormone therapy. With a patient-first approach, Acosta brings years of experience in emergency medicine, urgent care and pediatrics to the team. If we want our community to be healthier, we have to stop throwing medication on top of problems. We need to empower people to change their lifestyle,” says Acosta, who helps patients identify and manage long-term risk factors for cardiovascular, metabolic and neurodegenerative disease in addition to providing acute care for infections, injuries and other conditions. “I also provide hormone replacement therapy. I start by conducting in-depth evaluations. One thing could trigger a patient's hormones to go awry. I go through these pieces to formulate a personalized strategy to help them.” “Hearing a patient and having more time to get to know all those contributors is the beauty of integrative care,” says Acosta, who helps her patients go beyond healing to define and work toward their long-term health goals. For Acosta, the most rewarding part of her role is seeing a patient take back agency over their health. For Nala Foti-Cowan, who helped the medical center branch into the aesthetics space when she came on board in 2024, the best part of her role as a Licensed Aesthetician is seeing patients feel good in their own skin. After years of experience in an esteemed Honolulu medical aesthetics clinic, Foti-Cowan and her family returned to Kona to serve her hometown. “I love the more holistic approach to skincare, working with the body’s natural functions to improve skin health from the inside out. Very often, gut issues lead to skin problems like acne. When patients come here, they can have their lab work done and learn what they’re deficient in, and what dietary changes to consider. I help treat the outside, and Dr. Roberts focuses on what’s going on internally. That complementary aspect? That’s holistic health care,” says Foti-Cowan. From minimally invasive HydraFacial to treatments that require downtime, Foti-Cowan guides her patients every step of the way. She also teaches them to maintain a healthy skin barrier.

Hearing a patient and having more time to get to know all those contributors is the beauty of integrative care.”

“When you look good, you feel good. And that makes me feel really good, especially when I can help teens feel more confident about their skin. It’s not just a vanity thing, either. Our skin is our biggest organ,” Foti-Cowan says. “I know what it’s like to grow up here and want to surf, paddle and have fun in the sun. I give my patients tools to stay healthy and protect their skin without compromising their time outdoors. In the long term, they’re better off healthwise.” Today, Foti-Cowan, Dr. Roberts and the Kona Health & Aesthetics team offer solutions that work with patients’ lifestyles, not against them. “We recognize that change is hard, so when proposing changes to diet, exercise, or other habits, we ask what is feasible for the patient based on their schedule, stress and budget,” says Dr. Roberts, who specializes in treating autoimmune diseases, neurologic conditions, hormone or endocrine system imbalances and gastrointestinal issues. “Through integrative care, we look at what they can actually commit to and enjoy doing, and we make a plan from there. It’s about meeting people where they’re at and empowering them to find meaning in wellness and in life.” KonaHealth.com.

ENHANCED WELLNESS With IV Therapy

INSIDE THE MOBILE IV THERAPY COMPANY SERVING WITH ALOHA ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY JULIA SILVA KURPPA

Big Island Hawaii IV is reshaping the clinical benefits of IV therapy and turning them into a luxurious self-care experience. Maximizing hydration, energy and nutrient intake has become a calming retreat for individuals, couples, or small groups of friends and family. The woman-owned company provides care for needs ranging from dehydration to longevity support. Suprena Clark, owner of the lightfilled clinic, arrived in Hawai‘i three years ago and instantly fell in love. “The island reminds me of all the best places I’ve lived in my life,” Clark says. After living and working in a myriad of places, she laughs in fond memory of how her experiences led her to this point. Her love for connecting with clients came from years in the hairstyling industry, while her background in travel nursing gave her the professional experience to own and operate the company. Big Island Hawaii IV offers relief for a variety of health concerns. The drips consist of saline or lactated Ringer’s solution, from which nurses build a “cocktail” tailored to each client’s needs. The goal is to ease symptoms that may arise from dehydration, stress, athletic performance and more. This is done by adding vitamins and minerals such as vitamin B complexes, glutathione, NAD+, magnesium and vitamin C, to name a few. The nutrients from the IV go straight into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive tract to provide better absorption, greater hydration and more rapid relief. CONTINUED >

One of the main appeals for many patients is the ability to access care in their homes, hotels, or vacation rentals. A team of experienced nurses travels across the island to serve those who are not in a condition to travel—or who are simply too comfortable where they are—to visit the office on Kuakini Highway. Though IV therapy is a clinical process, the nurses at Big Island Hawaii IV are seasoned professionals whose expertise allows them to prioritize quality of care and comfort. IVs are administered by licensed registered nurses under the direction of a medical director. IV therapy can help manage many symptoms, but sometimes there are needs that exceed its capacity. Clark recognizes the importance of working collaboratively with local health care providers and often refers clients to professionals who can best meet their needs. “It’s always about making people feel better faster,” Clark says. “What’s really important for us at Big Island Hawaii IV, is that people feel cared for.” Clark explains there are two sides to her company. On one hand, she aims to be the go-to IV therapy provider for visitors from around the world who come to experience the beauty Hawai‘i promises—to be the first call when issues like seasickness, jet lag, or dehydration threaten

to disrupt their stay. On the other hand, Clark is passionate about nurturing and giving back to those who call the island home, serving local families by helping them feel energized and at their best. Health, she says, is the bridge between those two goals. Despite being in its early years, the company has already built a reputation for personalized care. Clark comes with recommendations from reputable wellness professionals on the island. Chris and Leann Green, owners of Science Lab Hawaii, praise her ability to deliver exactly what each client needs. “Outside of her being warm and friendly, she’s educated, knowledgeable and professional about her products,” says Chris Green. “Big Island Hawaii IV is the best possible place to go. Their ability to provide comfort and care is far above the norm. I highly recommend it.” “I felt very calm and relaxed throughout the treatment,” says Leann Green. “The next day, I felt really energized. I was able to focus much better while working. I had a good level of energy that sustained me—and is still sustaining me—even a week after our treatment.”

“What’s really important for us at Big Island Hawaii IV, is that people feel cared for.”

Game-Changing Care

Dr. Mizuba’s Integrated Approach to Healing on Hawai‘i’s Big Island

At his clinic in Kamuela, Dr. Mizuba blends aloha-spirit care with world-class therapies to transform wellness for island residents and beyond. Ever refining his craft and expanding his expertise, Dr. Mizuba has made Mizuba Chiropractic a thriving place of healing. CONTINUED >

Dr. Mizuba is a pioneer in advanced healing modalities on the Big Island. With more than three decades of experience in sports medicine and chiropractic care, he integrates cutting-edge therapies such as Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) and Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) to help patients heal from injuries, regenerate tissue and rediscover the freedom of movement. It all began in 1990, far from home, while interning in Los Angeles, where Dr. Mizuba had an experience that would shape his career. “I was able to observe the team chiropractor for the Los Angeles Lakers,” he recalls. “I observed this individual who had many skills and was directly able to have a positive impact on the players.” What impressed him most was not just the technical expertise, but the collaboration among professionals working toward a single goal—optimal performance. Dr. Mizuba became a diplomate of the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians and went on to serve at the highest levels—Major League Baseball, professional hockey and the U.S. Open Golf Championship. He also served at Olympic training centers in Colorado Springs and Lake Placid.

“I observed the team chiropractor for the Los Angeles Lakers. I While Dr. Mizuba served others in the sports community, he was also active in marathon swimming. Through chiropractic care, as well as hyperbaric oxygen therapy, he recovered quickly from smaller injuries, preventing them from becoming bigger and more chronic problems. He reflects, “I felt fresher, faster as a result of doing these simple things.” Despite those high-level experiences, Dr. Mizuba’s heart remained rooted in Hawai‘i. He and his family returned home to the Big Island to continue his career, collaborating with other health care professionals to improve people’s well-being. “My family is from the Big Island,” he shares. “Each of us tries to make a positive impact on the lives of the people here in our community.” Today, his experiences have shaped a practice that serves both athlete-level clients and everyday island residents—keiki (children), kūpuna (grandparents) and everyone in between. “Training in the professional sports world has been rewarding,” he admits. “However, witnessing the positive changes in people’s lives here on the Big Island has been a huge blessing to myself and my family.” HBOT is one of the practice’s most transformative services. “We increase atmospheric pressure above 1.5 atmospheres and administer pure oxygen to the patient,” Dr. Mizuba explains. The pressure and oxygen changes result in reduced inflammation, accelerated recovery and up to 10 times greater stem-cell proliferation, among other benefits. One memorable success story involved an 11-yearold soccer player diagnosed with avascular necrosis of the femoral head—a serious condition often leading to early hip replacement. The boy’s pain subsided during his treatment plan. Follow-up over two years showed restored blood supply and no further degeneration. Today, he runs cross-country and plays football, pain-free. Dr. Mizuba emphasizes safety, expertise, and the importance of ensuring both the practitioner and equipment comply with national hyperbaric guidelines.

observed this individual who had many skills and was directly able to have a positive impact on the players.”

ESWT, another advanced tool, treats chronic soft-tissue injuries through acoustic shockwaves that trigger regeneration. Dr. Mizuba explains the premise of this therapy “is that it takes an old injury that would be considered chronic and pretty much washed up, and re-categorizes it into a category in the body that calls action to that particular area, propagating and initiating regeneration and restructuring of that tissue.” Combining both therapies produces amazing results, Dr. Mizuba witnesses daily at his clinic. Conditions once considered chronic are now transformed into fully functional outcomes for his patients. On Hawai‘i Island, where sunny days stretch across the seasons, fishing lines, paddles and golf clubs rarely rest. “With the weather being pleasant year-round,” Dr. Mizuba observes, “many individuals are able to stay active throughout the year.” CONTINUED > JANUARY 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . He notes with admiration that he has patients in their 90s who still paddle and walk nine holes of golf each week. “They’re looking for real answers, not gimmicks,” he emphasizes. “We are keeping people in the game— their game.” Dr. Mizuba’s view of wellness extends beyond muscles and joints. He sees health as an interconnected system of mind, body and spirit. “We identify factors that are contributing to the increase in pain and overall loss of function,” he explains. “Understanding how those challenges are adversely affecting someone’s daily life is paramount for a successful care plan.”

44

EXP E RT H E LP | W EL L NESS

His personal faith also anchors his work. “God put us here on this earth for a purpose,” he adds. “I hope that what we are doing helps each person achieve their mission in this life—to help them live each day a little fuller.” Dr. Mizuba believes that health is not a sprint but a steady rhythm of faith, focus and movement forward. Whether you are a fisher launching at dawn, a grandparent paddling with your moʻopuna (grandchild), or a professional athlete recovering from injury, Dr. Mizuba’s practice offers the tools and inspiration to live fully—mind, body and spirit— immersed in aloha. Beyond patient care, Dr. Mizuba teaches hyperbaric safety courses nationally, audits federally based health programs on the mainland and hopes to expand interdisciplinary collaboration locally. His goal is to bring advanced protocols from professional sports that everyone can benefit from. As he looks to the future, Dr. Mizuba continues to pursue new certifications and mentor other health care providers—all for the betterment of individual lives. His mission remains steady. “One step at a time, one stroke at a time—all journeys begin with the power of one,” he reflects. “The journey to better health begins with baby steps. Each step that you take is a powerful statement.”

“I hope that what we are doing helps each person achieve their mission in this life.”
