In Kirkland, work-life balance isn’t just a concept; it’s a lifestyle. The blend of scenic beauty, community spirit, and family-friendly amenities creates a quality of life that’s hard to match. Whether you’re exploring the waterfront, attending a local festival, or simply enjoying a sunset, Kirkland feels like home—a place where life’s simple pleasures shine the brightest. As the golden days of summer unfold in the breathtaking landscapes, we find ourselves immersed in the season's vibrant charm. The warm, sun-drenched afternoons invite leisurely gatherings in the backyard, while serene mornings by the water’s edge offer moments of quiet reflection. This is the season where nature’s beauty harmonizes with the special memories you’ve created with family and friends. As you savor these final weeks of summer, consider the simple pleasures: alfresco dining under starlit skies, boating adventures on the sparkling waters of the area lakes, and garden soirées framed by the soft hues of a Pacific Northwest sunset. The region’s lush scenery, coupled with the warmth of community, makes this a truly idyllic time. Yet, as the days subtly shorten and the crisp whispers of autumn approach, excitement builds for the cozy comforts and festive gatherings that come with cooler temperatures. The Pacific Northwest transforms into a canvas of rich amber and crimson hues, providing a picturesque backdrop right outside your window. Now is the perfect moment to prepare and style your home for the seasons ahead. Consider enhancing indoor spaces with plush textiles, warm lighting, and curated accents that reflect the natural transition. Outdoor fire features, covered patios, and weather-resistant furnishings can extend your enjoyment of the fresh, cool evenings, allowing you to relish the outdoors even as the temperatures dip. As autumn arrives, local farms and markets burst with harvest delights—perfect for crafting seasonal dishes that warm the heart and home. Embrace what the season offers by hosting intimate dinners, where the ambiance is as rich as the flavors served. Whether basking in summer’s lingering warmth or anticipating the cozy elegance of fall, your home is the heart of every cherished moment. Here in Kirkland, each season offers an opportunity to celebrate both nature’s splendor and the refined comforts of your living spaces. Wishing you and your family a joyful summer’s end and a graceful transition into the beauty of the cooler months. S H A N N O N C O Y, P U B L I S H E R @KIRKLANDLIFESTYLE

WHY STYLE IS AN INSIDE JOB
For Interior Designer Nicole Hopper, style has never been about playing it safe, blending into the background, or chasing fleeting luxury labels. It began as an intimate journey of self-discovery. Raised by a single mother working two jobs, Nicole grew up in a household where purchasing new things was a luxury they often couldn’t afford. Instead, she frequently dressed in hand-me-downs, an experience that forced her to look past the price tags of the clothing she wore and find creative ways to express her own identity. “When you grow up finding your voice through hand-medowns, you realize that style isn’t about what you can buy,” Nicole reflects. “It’s about how you carry yourself, how you pair unexpected elements, and how you find beauty and dignity in what you already have. It taught me to curate and it helped shape my understanding of self-regard.” This early resilience and visual instinct eventually led her into the demanding arena of high-end real estate. For 14 years, she operated a highly successful business styling premier luxury properties with the Hopper Group. Yet, despite a constant flow of work, she spent those years behind the scenes, executing visual stories without collaborating directly with the homeowners. “People look at my brand today the design awards, the magazine covers, the vibrant fashion and assume I’ve always lived in this world,” Nicole shares. “But the truth is, confidence is a muscle I had to build intentionally.” Ready to step into her own light, Nicole made the pivotal decision to formalize her expertise at the Heritage School of Interior Design. It was a rigorous, transformative transition that forced her to step out from the background, present her ideas, and confidently own her creative voice. “I had to build my certainty from the ground up,” Nicole reflects. “That hard-earned clarity is the exact gift I now bring to my clients when helping them realize their own design style. True style is an inside job, it requires inner certainty before you can successfully dress a person or a room.” CONTINUED > S EP TEMB ER 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C OM / KI R KL A N D

Today, as the Principal of Nicole Hopper Interiors, Nicole’s eye for color and structure naturally extends to her personal wardrobe. For Nicole, getting dressed is a daily intention. “I believe that how you choose to get dressed changes your mood, your posture, and how you take on the world,” she explains. “Being intentional and thoughtful expresses a sense of dignity. It honors the people in front of you when you show up ready for the moment in a put-together way.” While world travel to places like England and Italy fuels her passion for creativity, her personal wardrobe color palette is chosen entirely for how it makes her feel. “I feel my best in bold colors, vibrant reds, bright oranges, and all shades of pink make me incredibly happy and confident,” Nicole shares. “I love to bring an element of high fashion and celebration to the everyday.” Nicole translates this same thoughtful discipline into her professional design philosophy, The Curation Standard, while maintaining a clear aesthetic boundary between her wardrobe and her clients’ spaces. While her closet is a celebration of vibrant color, her interior design style is deeply rooted in the classic, sophisticated beauty of the Pacific Northwest. She masterfully crafts residential environments using a timeless neutral palette, rich organic textures, and serene greens and blues. “For a luxury home in Kirkland or Bellevue, my job isn’t to just fill a room with beautiful things; it is an edit of high intention. We draw deep inspiration from our local landscape, bringing in peaceful neutrals, greens, and blues to create a sanctuary. Every custom piece we source must serve the client’s actual daily lifestyle and emotional well-being, protecting them from ‘safe’ choices and ensuring their environment is tailored to their highest self-regard.” With a thriving firm, Nicole is now dedicated to ensuring other women don’t play small in their own lives. “I launched my Early Career Designer Coaching because I saw a gap between receiving a design education and actually knowing how to launch and run a successful design career,” Nicole explains. “My goal is to bridge that gap, giving emerging designers the professional foundation, business strategy, and confidence they need to start their company or land a job at their dream firm.” That same passion inspired her to launch the Founders Collective, a collaborative space for local women entrepreneurs to lift each other up and fully give themselves permission to thrive. Through bespoke, white-glove full-home design, Nicole Hopper isn’t just transforming spaces she is helping her clients design lives they are proud to step into. A thoughtful approach to dressing with ease, clarity, and intention
HOW TO CREATE A
CAPSULE WARDROBE ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY CHAU SÁENZ It often begins the same way. A closet full of options, yet nothing feels quite right. Pieces collected over time, some worn, many forgotten. The noise of too many choices creates a quiet kind of fatigue. A capsule wardrobe offers something different: not restriction, but refinement.

20
STEP 2: DEFINE A COHESIVE PALETTE Color creates clarity. Choose a base of neutrals that naturally work together — black, cream, camel, navy. A well-chosen bag in a complementary tone becomes part of this system, grounding each look and tying pieces together without effort.
FASH ION F OR WA R D | STYLE + BE AU T Y
STEP 1: BEGIN WITH WHAT YOU REACH FOR The foundation is already there. Start with the pieces worn most often. The jacket that always fits, the trousers that move effortlessly, the top that feels natural. Alongside them, there is usually one bag that carries everything with ease. These are not just favorites, they are indicators of what works.
Chau Sáenz is the founder and designer of Chau Sáenz, a luxury handbag brand that focuses on creating timeless, handcrafted leather pieces. She has a deep love for craftsmanship and a passion for creating something meaningful that lasts through precision, quality, and artistry. VISIT CHAUSAENZ.COM TO LEARN MORE.

4
STEP 3: FOCUS ON VERSATILITY Each piece should serve more than one moment. A well-cut pair of trousers that transitions from day to evening. A structured layer that elevates any look. A thoughtfully designed bag that moves seamlessly from work to travel to dinner. Versatility reduces the need for excess while expanding possibilities.
STEP 4: BUILD IN COMBINATIONS Think beyond individual outfits. Each piece should pair with several others, including the accessories that complete them. One bag, worn across multiple looks, creates continuity and ease. Fewer pieces, more options.
5
STEP 5: EDIT WITH INTENTION Remove what no longer fits, flatters, or aligns. What remains becomes more meaningful, creating space for clarity and ease.
FINAL THOUGHT A capsule wardrobe is not about having less. It is about having what works beautifully, together.

A WELCOMING Style Curating the perfect front porch for Fall
ARTICLE BY VALERIE WERKHOVEN-WARREN PHOTOGRAPHY BY HEIDI CULVER
The vivid colors and cool evenings of Fall signal a return home. After a long summer of trips to the lake, visits to relatives, and vacations abroad, September brings us back to the comforts and familiarity of home. For most of us, the first thing we see on our return is our front porch. As autumn arrives this key space gives us endless opportunities to make a memorable impression. Thoughtfully styled seasonal florals and decorative pumpkins can transform and elevate your entryway into a warm and inviting space that welcomes guests and highlights the creative beauty of your home. Creating a curated display may seem overwhelming but you can elevate the look of your porch this season using this design guideline. 1. Don’t be afraid to experiment with color. With an ever-increasing variety of pumpkins available, you are no longer limited to traditional orange Jack O Lanterns. If your home or tastes trend more contemporary, look for pumpkins in more modern tones; muted greens or blues, creamy whites, and contrasting grey and blacks. Varietals like Blue Doll and Jarrahdale are excellent choices to bring some blue hues into your display. Mint Prince adds lighter green, while Italian heirloom Marina di Chioggia and Fairytale pumpkins bring rich, deep green hues. Midnight is a small black pumpkin while Thai heirloom Thai Kang Kob is a deep green if not black larger pumpkin. If you are drawn to a more traditional look, varieties like French heirloom, Rouge Vif D’Etampes bring warm red-orange hues that compliment bright white Moon Whisper and Flat White Boer and tan colored Cider pumpkins. For more playful displays, you can experiment with pink Porcelain Doll and yellow Lemonade. All of these varieties are available locally. There is nothing wrong with an all-orange display but know that you are not limited in your creativity.
24
C UR B A P P E A L | HO ME + D E SIGN
2. Layer your components to add depth and interest. Fight the urge to line up your pumpkins in a row. Start with larger pumpkins closer to your entryway or around the base of planters. This will anchor your display, and from there gradually transition to your medium sized and then smaller accents. Decorative gourds are an excellent way to tie your display together. Add them on top and at the base of groupings. Move them around, experiment with placing them in different areas of your display. Grouping in odd numbers is an easy rule of thumb to achieve a professional look. CONTINUED > S EP TEMB ER 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C OM / KI R KL A N D
25
3. Work with the pumpkin you have. Pumpkins are an organic commodity grown in a field. Each one is distinctive and unique. You may find that some don’t want to stand straight or tend to roll to one side or another. Work with what you have. Lay your traditional Jack O lanterns on their sides, stack your flat heirloom pumpkins in twos or threes or place them so their wide surface is facing out. Moving away from the traditional style adds visual interest and encourages the viewer to pause and admire. 4. Incorporate other natural elements. Classic choices would be a decorative hay bale to incorporate a touch of nostalgia while adding volume to your pumpkin display. Or a bundle of corn stalks to draw the eye up. Fall florals are a fresh way to add a vibrant pop of color to autumn porches. Gather orange or red branches, seasonal grasses, dried hydrangea and sedum stems, and create a floral arch around your entry. Or simply style your branches and stems in a large vessel by your front door. An antique crock or a narrow planter are great options for a seasonal floral arrangement. The best front porch designs reflect the creativity and warmth of the people who live there. Trends come and go and can provide inspiration, but the most welcoming space is one that feels authentic. The principles offered here are a starting point, certainly not a complete blueprint. Play around with your design, get creative, but most importantly, make it feel like you.

A MUST-HAVE FOR YOUR LATE SUMMER TABLE
ROASTED DELICATA SQUASH ARTICLE BY AMBER DAWN SCHULTHEIS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY DAWNING MEMORIES
This roasted delicata squash recipe is a must have for your late-summer table. Made up of simple ingredients - savory, nutty delicata squash, crunchy sourdough breadcrumbs, and all the freshly grated parmesan and fresh herbs - the result is a flavorful, versatile side dish. A worthy companion for grilled ribeye steaks, herby chicken wings, a simple filet of salmon - or even by itself - this is hands-down one of the best ways to devour the early harvest season.
Ingredients
• 3-4 delicata squash, about 1 cup of sliced veggies per person • 2 tablespoons olive oil • 1 teaspoon Kosher salt, more to taste • 1/2 teaspoon thyme or rosemary, dried • 1/4 teaspoon red chili flakes, optional • 1/2 cup coarse breadcrumbs, sourdough or panko • 1/4 cup parmesan, freshly grated • 2 tablespoons Italian parsley, finely chopped
Directions
1. Pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees. Line baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside. 2. Rinse and dry the delicata squash. Trim off both ends, then slice each squash in half crosswise (width-wise).
3. Using a spoon, scrape out the seeds and stringy fibers from the center of each half. 4. Slice each half into ½-inch thick rings. 5. Place in a large mixing bowl and add the olive oil, kosher salt, dried thyme or rosemary (if using dried), and red pepper flakes. Use tongs or clean hands to toss together, coating each piece with oil and seasoning. 6. Arrange the squash in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each piece so they roast and caramelize instead of steaming. 7. After 15 minutes, flip each piece of squash. Sprinkle the breadcrumbs evenly over the squash, rotate the baking sheet, and return to the oven for 10–15 minutes, or
