Cheers To Katy! Welcome To City Lifestyle!

Finding Home-Sweet-Home

Katy, it’s time to celebrate the first edition of Katy City Lifestyle. We can’t wait to honor this beautiful community!  Telling the inspiring stories unfolding in our own backyard, supporting the remarkable businesses that serve our neighbors, and celebrating the people who make this place feel like home.

When my family moved here in 2022, this Colorado girl who loves the mountains wasn’t sure I would ever feel at home here. Quite the contrary! In a journal entry shortly after our move, I wrote, “Katy was everything I never knew I wanted or needed, so I didn’t even know to ask for this blessing.” I am deeply grateful to now call Katy my home.

One of the things I love most about Katy is its diversity. Truly, the world is represented here—with residents who, like me, have found a home-sweet-home here. Katy, you embraced me, and so many others, when we needed a new place to belong. Katy City Lifestyle is my love letter back to you.

We invite you to join us on this journey of celebration as we love on and support Katy through Katy City Lifestyle. Thank you for your warm embrace.

To our founding partners, thank you for believing in the City Lifestyle mission. Together, we are shaping a legacy in Katy, designed to endure for generations.

Cheers to you, Katy!

A TOAST TO KATY

IN OUR INAUGURAL ISSUE OF KATY CITY LIFESTYLE, WE WANT TO TOAST TO YOU, KATY, TX! OUR HOME, SWEET HOME.

From the historic whispers of Katy Heritage Park,  to the neighborly strolls of Cane Island, to the meandering shops of the historic district,  to the crepe myrtle boulevards of Cinco Ranch,  and everywhere in between.

Katy, Texas has become a quintessential community spurring from our portly neighbor to the east. Touted as a mere suburb, this area has sustained and grown to demand Texan-sized attention, yet still boasts down-home southern hospitality.

This once vast prairie full of wild game and waterfowl known as Cane Island, became a booming settlement with the arrival of the M-K-T Railroad (nicknamed the KT). Even after the treacherous blows from the hurricane of 1900, Katy could not

“We are merely curating stories of the characters that live here, that work here, and that make here feel like home.”

be knocked down for long. New constructions continued to grow from the sprawling streets with homes, churches, schools, rice farms and a gas field to boot. Before long, this slice of west Houston had ballooned to over 300,000 residents spanning three counties that now call Greater Katy home.

City Lifestyle publications highlight the style and hometown ambiance of the city it represents, with our editions becoming prideful reflections of the hardworking, generous and supportive community of its namesake.

A place where the face behind the brand, the passion behind the business, and the hearts behind a cause can shine. Not

because they’re the only ones in town, but because of what makes their story unique. We are merely curating features of the characters that live here, that work here, and that make here feel like home.

What makes local stories so heartfelt, is just that. They’re local. They’re down the street. They’re in your own neighborhood. They may even be in your own backyard. And there’s something magical about hearing their stories, their struggles and their triumphs that makes us all feel like a little piece of their story too.

In a fast-paced world overwhelmed by algorithm gimmicks and million-follower influencers, our hometown team at Katy

City Lifestyle helps to re-personalize and re-humanize how we spend our time, where we do business and who we share our memories with.

A stay-at-home mom making sourdough in her kitchen.

A friend from church taking a leap of faith opening his own restaurant.

A nonprofit started by a bleeding heart eager to make a difference.

A family business that’s withstood generations now feeling left behind.

A trusted partner that will help navigate uncertain obstacles.

We all want to feel cared for when spending our hard earned money, time

City of Katy
“That’s the spirit I embody, a hands-on owner with humble resources but boundless determination to make it all work.” - Farrah Cauley

and energy, but sometimes we just need a little help connecting the dots. A place where you can turn to knowing you’re helping your neighbor, your friend, and your own family.

From families that have been here for generations, to newly welcomed transplants, there’s a place for everyone at our table.

The beautiful melting pot that is Katy, lends a tried and true Texan way of life perfectly blended with cuisines, cultures and companions from around the globe.

A perfect example of that is Farrah Cauley. What once started on a wing and prayer, she’s now built into one of our area’s favorite hang out spots, where glasses are toasted, appetizers are shared, and laughs are bountiful. At Sonoma Wine & Cheese, Farrah has cultivated a spot where parties of 100, or 2, feel at right at home, yet also miles away.

When asked about the inspiration behind the name, Farrah replied, "in Sonoma, you’ll often find small wineries tucked away on dirt roads, where the

owner is not only tending the vineyard but also crafting the wine and welcoming guests in the tasting room. That’s the spirit I embody, a hands-on owner with humble resources but boundless determination to make it all work.”

That’s the spirit you can feel all over here in Katy too, where we’re not afraid to roll up our sleeves, and get the job done, all while working shoulder to shoulder with our neighbor next to us. Taking a leap. Having a little faith. And knowing there’s a community of support watching your back.

We’re honored that Katy City Lifestyle can be that voice for the weary. The voice for the champions. The voice for our very own hometown heroes.

So, as we sit at our billowing table at Sonoma Wine with charcuterie boards, editorial notes, half-charged laptops, and sparkling wines - we toast to you, Katy, TX. Our inspiration. Our storyboard. Our home.

Special thanks to the City of Katy for our beautiful hometown pictures.

THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS

My Pool

An outdoor enthusiast at heart, I find my reset in the sunshine, mostly poolside during Texas summers. If my husband were on board, I’d happily trade it all in for a treehouse one day.  Until then, you’ll find me soaking up every moment outside whenever I can.

World Wide Travel

Early in my career, I was a travel nanny for high-profile families, traveling across Europe, Africa, Japan, Mexico—and even helping plan an Antarctica trip. I truly love to travel and believe the diversity of people and cultures is a gift. That’s one reason I love Katy—the beauty of our diverse world is so well represented here.

Health & Wellness

I have a deep passion for health and wellness, and my mission is to support the holistic well-being of the people and community around me. I focus on nurturing mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, relational, and financial wellness, believing that true health comes from balance in every area of life. Through education, encouragement, and connection, I strive to empower others to live their fullest, healthiest, and most meaningful lives

Food & Wine Dogs

My family has three dogs, but I am completely obsessed with my German Shorthaired Pointer, Magnolia. If you’ve ever had a “soul dog” or a dog that felt like they were sent to this planet just for you, then you understand. Maggie is my best friend and makes me laugh every single day.

I love good food and great wine! My husband is a grill master and a steak purist. I am equally excited enjoying Mexican street tacos or a Michelin-starred French feast. To me food is a way to show love, connect with others, and experience different cultures. Sharing a meal is my favorite way to make moments memorable.

The Making of a Home

Envisioning Home, Envisioning Possibilities for Every Phase of Life

Many people dream of working hard and owning their own house one day. But making that space truly feel like home, might feel like a daunting task.

As the founder and lead designer of her own studio, Shauntelle Parham designs spaces for clients that feel like an inviting escape, function like a seasoned orchestra, surrounding the senses like an illustrated story. Which might be why she describes home design as “visual storytelling.”

When you walk into a space, you want to feel the essence of the people that live there. The stories that are told around the dinner table, the holiday memories that sweep the mantle, the dog beds that are tucked underfoot, the photo gallery that lends a glimpse into a life lived within and venturing out of your four walls.

No two families are the same, and their homes shouldn't be either.

Shauntelle's design process doesn’t start with throwing ideas at the vision board to see what sticks. It starts with listening. Listening to personalities, phases of life, personal styles and physical needs. Her custom design process is carefully observing, planning and curating pieces that feel like home. But, not just any home. Your home.

With timeless finishes that lend to showcasing cherished heirlooms, worldly souvenirs, favorite artwork and one-of-a-kind treasures from K-T Antiques, Shauntelle aims for clients to feel like they’re entering their own personal retreat.

“I describe my work as comfortable luxury. Not excess. Not trenddriven. Instead, warmth layered with restraint. Materials that age well. Rooms that feel elevated yet entirely livable,” she states.

Her spectrum of talents is also showcased as she designs for homes on the market as well. A well-staged home will make anyone feel at home, anyone feel welcome, anyone envision how the space could work for them. It’s a contradicting perspective that needs to work effortlessly as staging is designing for the masses, while home designing is highly personal.

Luxury Lens Media

It’s not about slapping a sofa in a space and calling it a living room. It’s about making a potential buyer sit, reflect and dream up the possibilities, right there in the room. It’s about the feelings behind it. It’s about not wanting to rush out, but noticing how it feels to stay.

Those small nuances and attention to detail might seem slight to some, but to designers like Shauntelle, it’s everything.

Building her business, Infinite Possibilities, here in Katy has been about building trust. Trust that she can take your vision, your personality, your goals, and turn them into realities. Whether it’s curating your forever home, or moving on to the next.

Since settling in her own home here in 2019 near the Houston city limits, Shauntelle has felt the pull to live and patronize here on the Katy side. Bright lights of city life might seem tempting to some, but she finds the slower pace, and small town feel a perfect complement to the warm & inviting spaces she aims to create.

When thinking of her own home, Shauntelle’s reminded of treasured time cooking in the kitchen with her son. “Those ordinary evenings remind me that beautiful spaces are not meant to impress from a distance. They are meant to support real life up close.”

She understands that investing in home design is more than just aesthetics. It’s investing in function, in flow, in peaceful living. The value of having a beautifully designed space, is also having it function well for your needs. Clutter being tucked away. Tasks having a logistical flow. Natural light illuminating clear surfaces. When everything has a place, your home gets to rest. Your home feels like a retreat. Your family can gather around. Your friends can linger. Your life can unfold.

Luxury Lens Media
Diaography

“My studio is rooted in one belief: homes should feel considered. Whether a family is settling in or preparing to sell, the goal is the same. Clarity. Confidence. Comfort,” she says.

Shauntelle’s love for shopping timeless pieces and great vendors took yet another leap with her online home decor store, Comfortable Luxe. She wants beautiful design and luxury pieces to be available to everyone, whether they’re investing as a current client or not. She even offers virtual services to arm homeowners with a purpose and a plan to make their dream home a reality.

So, what once started as a big leap with a little faith, has grown into the opportunity for Shauntelle to live out her passions, and create spaces for yours.

As the founder and lead designer at Infinite Possibilities Luxury Interiors, you can view Shauntelle’s portfolio of work, get in contact or browse her online store at IPHomeStaging.

Redefining MVP: TIM TEBOW’S LIFE BEYOND FOOTBALL

An exclusive Q&A with City Lifestyle

PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

From championship trophies to global humanitarian impact, Tim Tebow’s journey has defied every standard playbook. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Tebow pulls back the curtain on the moments that truly defined him, from a humbling middle school church retreat to the life-altering shift of fatherhood. This isn’t just a look back at a career; it’s an invitation into the heart of a man driven by purpose. Read the highlights below, then join us for the full, unfiltered experience by scanning the QR code at the end.

Q: WE ALL KNOW YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD, BUT TELL US ABOUT THE CURL CONTEST.

A: I was competing for my future high school team (my brother’s team), and I pushed myself way past what was smart. I ended up collapsing and needing medical attention. But what stayed with me wasn’t the pain, it was the lesson. Would I be willing to do something that others aren’t? For much of my life, I strived to bring my best for a game, but I hope that I can say at the end of my life I was willing to do that for things that actually matter.

Q: YOU’VE ACHIEVED SO MUCH IN SPORTS. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT NOW?

A: Becoming a dad. Nothing compares. From the moment I knew my wife was pregnant, I felt a new depth of love for our child, but when you bring your baby home, the responsibility hits you like nothing else. Suddenly, everything you see, every decision you make, you’re asking, “Is this corner too sharp? What happens if she reaches that drawer?” It changes how you see the world and how you see other people.

Q: YOU’VE SPOKEN OPENLY ABOUT DISAPPOINTMENT, ESPECIALLY AROUND FOOTBALL. HOW DID THAT SEASON OF LIFE SHAPE YOU?

A: I talked a lot about that very thing in my book Shaken . We all go through moments where our faith in our abilities and purpose feels rattled, but I believe it’s often in those storms when God can show us who we could become.

Q: YOU TALK A LOT ABOUT COMPARISON CULTURE. WHY DO YOU BELIEVE COMPARISON HAS BECOME SUCH A TRAP TODAY?

A: Because we’re comparing our real, everyday lives to someone else’s highlight reel. Social media shows people’s “best day,” often filtered and staged, and then we measure our reality against that. There’s a reason filters are so popular—it’s not real. We end up scrolling through images that don’t tell the full story, and without realizing it, comparison starts to steal our joy and our gratitude.

“We’re comparing our real, everyday lives to someone else’s highlight reel... comparison starts to steal our joy.”

Q: YOUR FOUNDATION FOCUSES ON THE “MOST VULNERABLE.” WHERE DID THAT CALLING BEGIN?

A: When I was 15, I met a boy in the Philippines who was treated as a throwaway because he was born with physical differences. That moment changed me. I realized God was calling me to pursue a different kind of MVP, not “Most Valuable Player,” but “Most Vulnerable People.”

Q: FINALLY, WHAT’S ONE THING PEOPLE MIGHT BE SURPRISED TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?

A: I have some weird coffee habits, which include protein powder, collagen, and cream all mixed together. I love golf dates with my wife. And every night, I bring snacks to bed to share with our dogs. It brings me more joy than it probably should.

This conversation barely scratches the surface. Tim goes deeper into the moments that rattled him, the joys of fatherhood, and one story he has never shared publicly until now. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on Share the Lifestyle Podcast.

CINCO RANCH’S ONE-STOP

WELLNESS SPOT FOR ALL THINGS ICY, STEAMY, CHILLED OR INFRARED

“IT HELPS US SLOW DOWN, DECOMPRESS, AND RECOVER BOTH PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY.”

One might think of wellness as an individual commitment, but in Cinco Ranch, both health and community are at the CORE.

Nestled as cozy neighbors on Katy-Gaston Rd, CORE Recovery Lounge, Happy Cactus Coffee Co. and F45 Training Cinco Ranch West are making wellness routines and healthy habits a group effort.

You might have heard of F45 Training as a nationwide program with a reputation for innovative, high-intensity functional group workouts led by certified personal trainers. With a judgement-free zone, and a group atmosphere, it kicks motivation and accountability into high gear.

But after a good sweat session, pop in next door to CORE Recovery Lounge to revitalize your muscles and soothe your senses with their cold plunge, infrared sauna, red light therapy and compression sessions.

Hosting the Perfect Dinner Party

Your next event, served alfresco

Catering experts Chef Kyle and Hannah Williams, owners of Savor & Swirl culinary company, create an outdoor dinner party with chef-driven perennial dishes served in beautiful seasonal settings. For this alfresco dinner party, Chef Kyle draws on his favorite recipes updated for a modern palate and paired with wine selections to complement the bountiful feast.

Insider Tips for Hosting:

• Build a menu around the season. Start with what produce is available locally based on the season for the most authentic meal experience. For instance, Chef Kyle says “In November, people crave turkey, sage stuffing and cranberry sauce,” but that meal served in the heat of summer wouldn’t hit the same. In-season fruits and vegetables will always be of highest quality and best taste.

• Always greet guests with a beverage and appetizers. “Offer champagne for wine-lovers or a sparkling drink or signature cocktail. It’s all about serving guests to the highest caliber,” Kyle says.

• Draw inspiration from the season’s colors and temperatures. For spring and summer, think flowers, fresh herbs and linens. For Fall, think flannel blankets, wooden tables, fire pits, open grills, string lights and candles to create a really cool environment you haven’t been able to do all summer. For winter, head indoors to create a cozy environment for guests to connect.

• “You can’t go wrong with fresh flowers,” Hannah says, “but keep bouquets low to not interfere with conversation flowing. For fall, I like richer, jewel-toned florals to mix and match and keep whimsical. I vary glass vases with burnished brass for warm fall vibes.”

• An easy but thoughtful detail is to put a simple menu at each place setting, so guests know what to expect. “Add a pen, so guests can jot tasting notes, especially for wine pairings or multiple courses,” Hannah says. “Guests can share comments, then take the menu home as a sweet reminder of the event.”

• Follow the French principle of mise en place or everything in place before your event. “This is actually our company’s name,” Kyle says. “It’s that important to us. Make sure the wines are all open, cocktails are pre-made, place settings are out, candles are lit and music is playing. When guests arrive, it gives that wow-factor and shows you intentionally made them feel special.”

• To build confidence as a host, start small and practice. “Keep the menu and guest list small,” Kyle says. “Choose recipes you already have confidence in. If you make a great Beef Stroganoff, then go with that. People will love it!”

• As fun as it is to dine outside, always have an indoors back-up plan. “We’ve had to bring it indoors before,” Hannah says. “It’s still fun.” Insider Tips for Hosting: “Think flannel blankets, wooden tables, fire pits, open grills, string lights and candles to create a really cool environment you haven’t been able to do all summer.”

Read on for some of Chef Kyle’s favorite recipes.

Fresh Roasted Brussels Sprouts & Hardwood Smoked Bacon

Yield: 6 servings

• 4 cups Brussels sprouts, raw, halved

• 1-2 tablespoons olive oil

• ¼ cup yellow onion, sliced

• 1 tablespoon garlic, sliced thin

• 1-2 cups bacon, smoked, thick cut, large dice

• Salt, pepper to taste

• 2 tablespoons real butter, unsalted

• Optional garnish: 1 tablespoon parsley, chopped

METHOD OF PREPARATION:

1. Preheat oven to 400 °F for convection setting, (425 °F conventional).

2. In mixing bowl, add oil and cut raw Brussels sprouts. Season with salt and pepper.

3. Place seasoned sprouts on baking sheet and bake in oven until done, about 20-40 minutes (soft yet still with good texture and crispy edges with some dark brown color). Remove from oven.

4. Place large sauté pan on medium heat and render bacon. Add a splash of olive oil to get it going, if needed. Cook until bacon is crispy and golden brown, 5-10 minutes.

5. Add onions to pan and cook until soft, 5-8 minutes.

6. Turn heat to high and add garlic and butter and cook for 1 minute.

7. Add roasted Brussels sprouts to pan and toss all together. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

8. For optional garnishes, add fresh chopped parsley.

9. Serve and enjoy!

CHEF NOTES:

• If Brussels sprouts are large, cut in quarters.

• Rendering bacon means extracting the bacon fat which adds a lot of flavor to the dish.

Heirloom Root Vegetable Hash

Yield: 6-10 servings

• 2 cups heirloom carrot, cubed

• 2 cups heirloom rutabaga, peeled, cubed

• 2 cups heirloom parsnip, cubed

• 1 cup heirloom turnip, cubed

• 2 cups heirloom marble potatoes, halved

• 3 tablespoons rosemary, fresh, de-stemmed, chopped

• 1 tablespoon thyme, fresh, de-stemmed, chopped

• 4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

• Salt – to taste

• Pepper – to taste

• Optional garnish: 1 tablespoon parsley, chopped

METHOD OF PREPARATION:

1. Pre-heat oven to 400°F on convection setting (425°F conventional).

2. In mixing bowl, add oil and raw cut vegetables. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

3. Place seasoned vegetables on oiled baking sheet and bake in oven until they are caramelized and tender, about 30-60 minutes. Will be soft yet still with good texture and crispy edges with some lightly charred areas.

4. Remove from oven once finished cooking.

5. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley.

6. Enjoy.

Cranberry Orange Zest Sauce

Yields 4 cups

• 3 cups cranberries, fresh or frozen

• 1 cup cranberry juice, sweetened

• 1 piece orange peel

• 1 orange for zesting

• ½ cup orange juice, freshly juiced

• 3 cinnamon sticks

• ¼ teaspoon clove, ground

• ¼ teaspoon allspice, ground

• ½ cup sugar

• Pinch salt

METHOD OF PREPARATION:

1. In medium saucepot on high heat, add everything except orange peel and orange zest. Bring ingredients to boil, then reduce to a simmer with lid.

2. While simmering, stir occasionally with rubber spatula ensuring bottom does not burn. Simmer for 30 minutes or until sauce thickens.

3. Remove lid and add orange peel and season to taste. Can add more sugar or spice if needed.

4. Once sauce is thickened and most liquid has evaporated, remove orange peel and cinnamon sticks and remove pot from heat.

5. With hand-held blender, puree sauce, keeping some texture.

6. Freshly grate in orange zest, stir and season to taste.

7. Transfer sauce to jar and place in refrigerator to cool overnight.

8. Enjoy!

CHEF NOTES:

• Enjoy with all types of poultry and game birds.

• Do not use ground cinnamon.

• Can puree with blender if you do not have hand-held blender.

• Consistency should be thick sauce and not a jelly.
