April: Investment

Investment is the act of devoting time, effort, energy or finances to a particular undertaking with the expectation of a worthwhile result. We can invest in a lot of things such as our community, our relationships, our finances, and our health with the hope that the effort will have a positive impact. We can invest in our community by supporting our local businesses, schools and local organizations. We can serve the community through volunteerism and investment in future generations. On a personal level, we can invest in our families and enrich relationships by giving time and effort to the people in our lives that mean the most to us. This type of investment has the most meaningful impact to not only ourselves but to the people closest to us.

My children are getting older, I have two in college, one in high school and one in middle school. My hope is that the investment that I have made throughout their childhoods raising them will positively impact their lives as they become adults themselves. I am currently making a conscious effort to put my phone down more and give my undivided attention to them when we are together so that they know they are my priority without the distraction of technology and that they are worth my time. With our busy schedules, the moments of having all of us home are becoming few and far between, so when we are home, it is important for me to invest in them and embrace the time we have together.

While investing in ourselves, relationships, community and finances can look very different from person to person, the effort we put into these areas of our lives are done with the common goal of having a positive impact that yields results. In this issue, we wanted to share about some of the ways that we can invest in our community, our health, our finances and with those that we love.

Which Weight Loss Approach is Right for You?

Do I Qualify?

Individuals seeking a more tailored approach to weight management are ideal candidates for beginning a journey toward optimal wellbeing. If someone is struggling with stubborn weight gain despite adhering to proper diet and exercise, they may qualify for a weight management program. Those with ambitious weight loss goals could also find value in a personalized solution to support their wellness journey.

Appetite Regulation: Semaglutide

Originally utilized for over 15 years to treat diabetes, Semaglutide revealed an unexpected benefit: weight loss. By mimicking the body’s hormone that regulates blood sugar levels and appetite, Semaglutide reduces feelings of hunger, leading to decreased food intake and subsequent weight loss. It has proven particularly effective for individuals who have encountered difficulties with weight loss using other methods.

Fat Utilization & Appetite Regulation: Tirzepatide

Another innovative medical option is Tirzepatide, which activates two receptors via hormone stimulation. In addition to suppressing appetite, Tirzepatide regulates glucose and blood sugar levels while enhancing the body’s utilization of fat through increased energy expenditure. Tirzepatide’s multifaceted approach makes it a promising candidate for managing both obesity and type 2 diabetes effectively.

Increases Energy & Fat-burning: BioBoost

It is designed to provide an extra boost of energy, fat-burning, immunity support, and mental clarity through a blend of vitamins, minerals, and fat-metabolizing amino acids. BioBoost can help regulate sleep assisting with insomnia. Its core ingredients include Methionine Inositol Choline (MIC), also known as Lipotropic Injections, which target primary fatty deposits in the body to aid in fat release. Additionally, it contains essential B vitamins such as B6 and B12, which play crucial roles in energy metabolism, DNA synthesis, and nervous system health.

Benefits of Medical Weight Management

Under careful management by an experienced medical team that customizes dosage to individual needs, the benefits of medical weight management may include:

- Weight loss

- Increased energy levels

- Improved sleep quality

- Better blood pressure control

- Enhanced self-confidence

- Reduced joint pain

“I find the learning curve of creativity and innovation required to execute a plant-based dining experience endlessly rewarding and deeply satisfying.”

Bobby Morris is the executive chef operator at Whole Harvest Kitchen.

“My passion for food was born in my mom’s kitchen cooking side by side with her,” says Morris. “The lessons I learned from her combined with my love for northern Italian cuisine has guided my creative focus to create locally sourced food that evokes the comfort of mom’s cooking wherever I’ve been, from West Palm Beach, to Hartford, to Kansas City. I am delightfully invigorated and inspired professionally by this style of cuisine as it challenges the foundation of everything I know as a chef. I find the learning curve of creativity and innovation required to execute a plant-based dining experience endlessly rewarding and deeply satisfying. I am grateful for the experience of being the Executive Chef at Whole Harvest Kitchen as it affords me great joy on a daily basis.

I know that we are providing a nurturing environment for the plant-based community of Kansas City to grow and flourish, as well as access and knowledge for those just beginning their plant-based journey.”

People adopt whole food plant-based diets for a variety of reasons. For some, it's a culinary adventure, exploring the full flavor potential of plant-based ingredients. Others are drawn to the environmental sustainability of reducing carbon emissions and minimizing transportation energy waste by sourcing fresh, local produce. Most significantly, the health benefits are compelling, with studies showing risk reduction and even reversal of diseases like cardiac issues, type 2 diabetes, and cancer. Improved metabolism, blood sugar control, cholesterol levels, and weight loss are among the many advantages associated with this lifestyle.

“Fifteen years ago, our owner radically changed his eating habits after having a heart attack and discovered that not only can a plant-based diet free of conventional oils used in cooking help cardiac patients and many others with specific disorders, it rejuvenates our body and mind and reverses damage done by consuming heavily processed food that ravages every part of our being. Whole Harvest Kitchen is the manifestation of his vision and passion for plant-based living.”

Plant-based simply means every ingredient comes from a plant—there are no animal ingredients like meat, milk, eggs, or even honey. Whole food plantbased cuisine at its core emphasizes ingredients sourced solely from plants and prepared from scratch, avoiding heavy processing and artificial additives. This approach to cooking utilizes minimal sodium, no added sugars, and oil-free techniques, yielding numerous health benefits.

“Whole Harvest kitchen is a plant-based dining experience that seeks to heal, educate and satiate guests who are on their plant-based journey as well as those curious about how that path looks. Our menu is globally inspired, locally sourced, chef driven cuisine that adheres to the principles of whole food preparation without using any oil, save for some dishes finished with extra virgin olive oil, which can be omitted. We are proud to collaborate with and support members of the vibrant Kansas City plant-based community of growers and purveyors, including Myco Planet Mushrooms, Central Soy, Marion Milling, Fyler Farm, Yoli Tortilleria and Zero Zero pasta.”

Their menu consists of a wide variety of salads, pizzas, sandwiches, burgers, pastas, and desserts.

“One of our most popular items is our pizza, made with a sourdough Neapolitan style pizza crust.  Additionally, the Thai Curry featuring sweet potato glass noodles and lemongrass coconut broth has also been a fan favorite. My personal favorite is called the three sisters prepared with Ayocote beans, watermelon radish, squash, and chermoula. The three sisters are corn, squash and beans, which provide a complete plant protein that contains the nine amino acids our bodies need to be healthy when

consumed together—more than that, those three items are mutually beneficial when grown together in the garden.

“Our intent with Whole Harvest Kitchen is to organically develop and refine operations at our Leawood location to optimize guest experience and then, in time, expand our locations to include other parts of the Kansas City area and beyond.”

Whole Harvest Kitchen is located at   4853 W 117th St, Leawood.

MEET THE ARTIST: AARON NORRIS

For the first half of his artistic career, artist Aaron Norris primarily painted realistic landscapes capturing the essence of the Midwest with its grazing cattle, windmills, and the majestic drama of prairie storms. As local sports teams experienced national success, so did his artwork of sports—these paintings of local athletes built the foundation of his career as a sports artist specializing in realistic portraits of the most influential athletes across the globe.

“My style is primarily realism. However, I’m always experimenting with blending different forms of impressionism and sometimes abstract backgrounds into my pieces.”

After honing his skills in college, Norris embarked on a professional journey that initially veered into the realm of graphic design, a stepping stone to his true calling. Painting remained a constant in his life, but when Norris discovered his love for large-scale landscapes capturing western Kansas, he truly realized what would become his lifelong passion of becoming an artist full time.

“My journey was very slow and organic, probably like most artists,” says Norris. “After high school, I studied art at Central Missouri State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art. I then got my foot in the door of a large corporation as a graphic designer. I would paint a little here and there, but I went through a few years of not really taking it seriously. After a while, I got really into painting large-scale landscapes, western Kansas storms, and endless prairies with cattle, windmills, and oil pumps. My style is primarily realism. However, I'm always experimenting with blending different forms of impressionism and sometimes abstract backgrounds into my pieces.”

In 2009, gallery representation at The Rice Gallery of Fine Art in Leawood provided the catalyst Norris needed to propel his artistry into the spotlight. With each brushstroke, his style evolved, creating his signature aesthetic that resonates deeply with audiences.

“The gallery really helped me shape my client base as my style continued to evolve. In 2015, the Royals won the World Series and I started to get commissioned to paint sports figures for the first time and they were really well received. A few years down the road, the Chiefs won the Super Bowl and the floodgates opened with clients who wanted paintings of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. I would say that currently, sports art makes up the bulk of my commission work, with the occasional landscape piece. At the moment, due to the success of the Chiefs, my most popular pieces continue to be some of my latest abstract paintings of Patrick Mahomes, but my western storm paintings are also still in demand.”

Commissioned portraits of sporting icons became sought-after treasures, cementing his reputation. The crowning moment of Norris' journey came with an invitation to showcase his artistry at the Super Bowl, a surreal experience that surpassed even his wildest dreams. From the glittering lights of Las Vegas to the electric atmosphere of the game itself, it showed the power of saying yes to unexpected opportunities.

“The Four Seasons in Las Vegas invited me back in November to display a collection of my work in their beautiful hotel for the weeks leading up to the game. Being selected to showcase my work in Vegas for the Super Bowl was such a long-shot fairytale for me. My work was received so incredibly well by so many people. It was an extraordinary getaway for my family and I. It's funny, when they originally asked me if I would be interested, I told them no—I had so many things going on and I just didn't think I could make it work logistically. Remember, back in November, I didn't know who would be playing in the Super Bowl. When it was all said and done, my beloved Chiefs won another Lombardi Trophy and I will be forever grateful that I said yes. It was my little Cinderella story. It was something I’ll never forget.”

As he looks to the future, Norris remains steadfast in his commitment to his craft. His studio in Raymore serves as a sanctuary for creativity.

“Personally, my favorite painting is an oil painting of my two beautiful daughters when they were just little girls. It hangs in our living room at home and it always makes me smile. My future plans are going to stay the same as they've always been—I’m going to try and create art that I love to the best of my abilities and if it happens to sell, wonderful.”

Wealth Management Done Differently

LET PREVAIL SHAPE YOUR WEALTH AMONGST THE UNPREDICTABILITY OF TODAY’S MARKET… AND HAVE FUN WHILE DOING IT

FINANCIAL BUZZ | FINANCE + LEGAL SERVICES
24

To ‘prevail’ is to prove more powerful, to be victorious, and in the case of Prevail Innovative Wealth Advisors, to overcome challenges associated with constant changes in the marketplace and to provide more control over financial freedom. Sound enticing? We think so.

Who says finance can’t be fun? Meet one of Kansas City’s most experienced, successful, and entertaining financial planning organizations who regularly entertain their clients with annual events like March Madness parties and charity golf tournaments. This is just one of the many traits that make Prevail’s culture stand out and why their creative approach to wealth management is instrumental.

“Our culture is paramount. We work hard to build a brand and presence that makes sure people have fun and for them to not look at financial services as a negative; we are constantly bringing innovative ideas to the table. The way our culture makes both our advisors and our clients feel is infectious. ”

The founders boast an impressive record of success with the modernized vision in Prevail. They believe the traditional investment theory is broken, so they have taken a step back to create a better way forward to manage people’s wealth.

“We wanted to build an environment that people weren’t afraid to come to, where they say, not only do they perform well, but their culture is amazing. Our philosophy on how we deliver financial services and engage with our clients is different; we consider them to be friends and we strive for them to be excited about seeing our team.”

And, philanthropy is at their core. Each year they host Prevail Together in partnership with Team Up for Down Syndrome, and this charitable golf tournament has raised $400k to date. Prevail’s team prioritizes paying it forward: Their objectives not only include creating significance in their staff’s and clients’ lives, but also the community.

Additionally, while Prevail does tailor to higher net worth clients, they don’t require minimums. “If we are truly going to give back to our community, there are people with different aspects of net worth, and they all need help, whether just starting the stages to accumulate wealth or going through major equity events with significant amounts of money.”

Another attribute that differentiates them is operating in a team environment. “We are extremely young and have done that intentionally so you aren’t passed along once an advisor retires.” Their average age is in the middle to low 40s whereas the average industry age is 60.”

They believe everybody goes through different financial life cycles, so they have specialists focused on everything from estate planning, tax, mergers and acquisitions, and more, and they plug and play them into a financial board of advisors.

It’s living and breathing a truly consultative approach to give clients a multitude of ideas depending on the stage of their lifecycle. “We don’t believe any one advisor has the ability or expertise to take someone through every financial life cycle. You’re always going to have a team; the average team is 3 people and can be as many as 5 or 6.”

“Our philosophy on how we deliver financial services and engage with our clients is different; we consider them to be friends and we strive for them to be excited about seeing our team.”
CONTINUED > 25 | CITYLIFESTYLE.COM/JOHNSONCOUNTY APRIL 2024

The number one question they get is “Will I have enough to retire someday?” Traditional investment theory will tell you what you need to accumulate to pull 4% off of your portfolio so it can last forever. “We don’t believe that tenant is correct, nor can most people save enough to maintain their lifestyle and only pull 4% off their portfolio.”

Several of Prevail’s founding members are heavily involved in Acumen, a local faith-based CEO community that has been instrumental in the building of their culture. “We live and breathe our values, and our engagement in Acumen consistently influences us to do the right thing at all times.” Those five key values include Integrity, Passion, Loyalty, Teamwork, and Creativity.

1) Volatility is built into today’s markets, and the traditional mutual fund buy-and-hold strategy can have challenges. “We are very active in how we trade accounts. We believe that a portion of a person’s portfolio needs to be a non-correlated asset or assets that don’t

work up and down the way the stock market works but still create wealth.”

2) We believe that a portion of a person’s portfolio needs to be a non-correlated asset or assets that don’t move up and down the way the stock market works but still create wealth.  Today’s markets have become extremely correlated.  Having a portion of your portfolio that doesn’t follow the market can be impactful.

3) The portfolio should have some form of passive income which can be critical to mitigating volatility.

4) They believe taxes will be higher in the future. “How can we give more control back to clients, that if tax rates are higher in the future, they’ll have more options in a tax-free environment?”

Prevail doesn’t merely manage your wealth, they help you create it.  They have won Best Johnson County Advisory Firm two years back to back. “The proof is in the pudding; our retention rates are phenomenal and people enjoy working with Prevail.”

NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND NETFLIX PRODUCER, DAN BUETTNER, INSPIRES A BETTER LIFE Investing in your Health 30
If you make the effort to cook it with your family, you will gain the skills and learn to make some good and whole food plant-based recipes.

What’s the secret to a happy, healthy, and long life?

Believe it or not, it’s actually quite simple: There are no secret ingredients, no sizable expenditures, and absolutely zero manufactured elements of any kind. Dive in with us as we share insights from our interview with the internationally renowned Blue Zones Founder, National Geographic Explorer, and award-winning journalist who is revolutionizing the way Americans make choices that can lead to living your best life.

For over twenty years, Dan Buettner has been fully committed to studying the health and longevity of Americans as well as influencing the proper and attainable health-centric environments our communities should embody. What started with identifying five “blue zones” around the world where people are both living longer as well as enjoying a higher quality of life in their elder years has now also evolved into proactively creating eco-systems where our communities engage in setting the standard for clean health.

If you haven’t subscribed to watching “Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones” streaming on Netflix, do yourself a favor and soak up the well-documented views into how Ikaria, Greece, Loma Linda, California, Sardinia, Italy, Okinawa, Japan, and Nicoya, Costa Rica exemplify the basis behind the Blue Zones truth and have since inspired Dan and his team to further extrapolate how we can manufacture healthy blue zone lifestyles in virtually any city and within our homes by way of intentional adaptation.

Most of us are well aware of the “American way of life” we reside in, that being one of convenience in all shapes and forms. We excel in offering the most fast food options in any country. We rank at the top of the most cars per household. We embrace a sedentary at-home lifestyle. And, for many of us, it stems from our childhood to no-fault of our own; comfort

foods and Friday night pizza deliveries, complacent recliners and cushy car commutes. In short, however, now more than ever we categorically live in a country where processed foods and ultra-convenience, unfortunately, translate to life-threatening health diseases and a lack of organic joy.

What is the best news of all? All of these characteristics are wildly easy to overcome with effortless, yet conscious pivots to making better decisions with our time, our food, and our focus. Ask yourself: Are you driving or walking? Are you connecting socially? Set your sights on avoiding the majority of processed foods and start eating a largely whole-food and plantbased diet that will (statistically) give you another 10-12 years on your life.

In place of your toaster, keep a fruit bowl on the counter. Create a low-level junk food drawer. Stop buying processed meat, potato chips, sweetened snacks like cookies and candies, and worst of all, sugar-sweet beverages, and start buying more beans, nuts, grains, and tea.

“Am I going to tell you to never have these? No, people deserve to treat themselves. But you’ll do yourself an enormous favor if you just don’t bring those into your home. If you want to go out for those treats, go ahead,” Dan says. “Simply just don’t bring them home, and you’ll cut out 70-80% of consumption right there.”

Buettner’s first cookbook, The Blue Zones Kitchen, is a fantastic resource featuring ingredients and cooking methods that can increase longevity, wellness, and mental health. The recipes also include lifestyle tips such as proper portion sizes and the best times to eat dinner. Plus, check out his additional seven books that dig deep into the exact foods you should eat to how your circle of friends and family can influence your quality of life.

Who do you hang out with? Happiness is contagious. “The Blue Zone approach is to go through your contact base and think of some friends whose recreation is pickleball, biking, or gardening. Who will care about you on a bad day and have a meaningful conversation? Identify one or two friends who are vegan or vegetarian and show you how and where to eat whole foods. Actively invite them out for lunch, and bring them into your social circle: this will have a bigger, long-term impact on your behavior than any new diet or exercise, and it costs you zero. Plus, there is a ton of data that shows it works, and it's long-term.”

“We are marketed the idea that if we change our behavior by exercising more, taking the right supplements, trying this longevity or that anti-aging hack, that we will lose weight and get healthy, yet it never works for the long-term,” says Dan. The Blue Zones approach is not trying to change your behaviors, it is asking you to change your surroundings…your eco-system.

Every time you go out to eat, you will consume an extra 300 calories that are laden with more sodium, sugar, and oil than eating at home. “Get your hands

on a plant-based cookbook, pick a dozen recipes, and cook those with your family on Sundays. If you make the effort to cook it with your family, you will gain the skills and learn to make some good and whole food plant-based recipes.”

And, we would be remiss not to attend to the travelers at heart who would love to indulge in a luxurious resort paired with the facets of an actual Blue Zones destination. Dan highly recommends seeking out Silvestre in Nosara, Costa Rica where the experience offers wellness programming, fully-equipped kitchens, and outdoor activities that will fuel your inspiration for a healthier life.

Tap into Dan’s wisdom that is creating a new category of places that are not merely the legacy of a healthy culture, but more consciously created by enlightened individuals that are intent on supercharging healthier communities!

Become a Part of the Ripple Effect

CELEBRATES 10 YEARS OF SPREADING KINDNESS AND MAKING OUR WORLD A MORE ACCEPTING PLACE

KANSAS CITY’S SEVENDAYS® ORGANIZATION

Ten years ago, Kansas City experienced a deeply saddening event that rocked our city. Three individuals became victims of an unexpected hate crime at the hands of a White Supremacist, but what was born out of this tragic incident was a more promising future to inspire our youth to be kind. “Love, not hate” became the legacy of this day, along with the conviction to “Make a ripple, change the world.”

SevenDays® is a non-profit organization that facilitates annual community events, curriculums and grants for schools across the metro to empower us to teach our kids how to overcome hate by promoting kindness and understanding.  It’s the foundation for engaging in seven different ways on seven different days of action, creating a roadmap of generating kindness all year long.

GIVING BACK | LOCAL SERVICES 36

It challenges students to think, “What can I do today to inspire kindness and carry that forward?” Through membership in Kindness Youth Leadership Teams, high school students apply to get involved and then meet monthly during the school year to work on various aspects of SevenDays®, including the planning of annual events and activities. With an intentional focus on youth in schools, SevenDays.org  provides free lesson plans for K-12 faculty to take a role in cultivating a world focused on teaching kindness. Students receive mentorship from adults involved with SevenDays® and go out into the community to perform community service. The group is diverse and intentionally all-inclusive throughout its area-wide schools, grades, ethnicity, race and faiths.

It also provides a variety of opportunities for adults and youth alike to get involved, including two public events to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the April 2014 crime, beginning Wednesday, April 10 with the ‘Kindness Breakfast’ that takes place at the Church of the Resurrection in Leawood. Additionally, on Sunday, April 14, SevenDays® will host its first Community Kindness Festiva l. This free event will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the grounds of the Jewish Community Center in Overland Park and will be a fun, family-friendly afternoon of music, food trucks and interactive kindness activities.

Kansas City’s own Kate Cosentino, who appeared on NBC’s “The Voice" in 2023, is the festival’s headliner. Cosentino was a cousin of Terri LaManno whose life was taken during this tragic 2014 occurrence. Coincidentally, Kate was previously involved in a former SevenDays® songwriting competition and was one of its winners. In a full circle moment, she will bring her renewed stage presence and inspiring words to this year’s commemoration event. At the breakfast, the committee will honor individuals from two competitions they facilitate: The first is a button design. High school students can enter and submit designs for all seven themes, and one student’s design will be chosen for each theme. The second competition is a kindness action scholarship for seniors. Students can create a kindness project and write an essay about their vision and the impact.

Additionally, a Ripple of Kindness award will be given to an extraordinary individual in Kansas City for doing work that goes above and beyond. Previous winners include former Chiefs quarterback, Trent Green, for his work with Children’s Mercy Hospital and Ronald McDonald House, former Royals General Manager, Dayton Moore, for his C You in the Major Leagues foundation, as well as CEO of Community America, Lisa Ginter for her community impact.

SevenDays’ Co-founder, Mindy Corporon, will be the event’s featured speaker. Mindy lost her 14-year-old son Reat and her father Dr. William Corporon in 2014’s fateful crime, and she has since committed her life to “gathering people to shine the light on peace.” Her impactful accomplishments include starting the Faith Always Wins Foundation  - now SevenDays®,  - to engage communities with kindness activities and initiatives. She authored Healing a Shattered Soul to reflect on her personal journey of navigating anguish and offering kindness, along with winning a multitude of awards for her powerful thought leadership.

SevenDays® is all about accepting and understanding those around us, and considering them as our neighbors. When one person understands the power of kindness and acts on it, they make a ripple. A ripple can change the world.

is here, along with exciting news!

In addition to our signature Wagyu beef, we are pleased to introduce a curated selection of seafood offerings featuring Premium Northern Atlantic Lobster Tails, Jumbo White Tiger Shrimp, and Nova Lox Smoked Atlantic Salmon. Create a memorable meal with your favorite Surf & Turf pairings!

why wagyu?

Depth of Flavor: Wagyu genetics and the well distributed IMF create a savory flavor that goes beyond typical “beefy” notes. An Umami explosion for your tastebuds.

Rich Marbling: High levels of intramuscular fat (IMF) create a unique buttery richness and velvety texture.

Highly Versatile: Known for superior steaks, Wagyu also makes succulent burgers, and even finely sliced beef for sushi. Wagyu tenderness and flavor make it a delight across lots of cooking styles.

A healthier alternative to commercial beef: Wagyu has Omega-3 rich fatty acids, and unsaturated fats that can have positive effects on cholesterol and heart health. Wagyu beef has cholesterol levels similar to fish or chicken, and it’s health benefits have been compared to that of Salmon.

WOVEN + KNOTTED

LIVING BOHO-CHIC WITH WOVEN TEXTURES AND MACRAMÉ

Decorate your space with handmade textures such as the modern, maker revival of 1970s macramé and year-round tropical feel of wicker. MACRAMÉ Made through knotting instead of weaving, macramé can add a unique touch in many various ways. Houzz contributor Laura Gaskill suggests incorporating it as nursery decor, plant hangers, wall hangings and modern fiber arts. WICKER According to Houzz contributor Yanic Simard, “the best way to really embrace the luxury-cottage appeal of wicker and rattan is to combine different forms of the two in one space... Look for other unexpected places to add a natural twist to your home with a new material woven into your palette.”

AGAINST THE GRAIN BRIGHTS + WHITES

TIPS FOR DECORATING WITH NATURAL MATERIALS

Houzz contributor Katie Treggiden offers many ways to incorporate natural materials and natural-state timber into your home, including using wood to cover one wall in a home for a pleasing accent wall; featuring your firewood as a striking, stacked display; and mixing different types of wood and different finishes in the same space. “A simple way to incorporate the wood trend is to expose structural wooden beams already present in your home,” Katie says. “Instead of painting them or boxing them in, leave them raw or give them a coat of wax to enrich the tones.”

ADDING TASTEFUL POPS OF COLOR TO YOUR WHITE ROOM

Do you feel like your all-white room is missing something? Houzz contributor Kelly Porter bets what’s missing is energy.

“The best way to add a spark to any space,” she says, “is with bright color.”

Kelly says green is one of the easiest colors to live with, looking organic even in its more vivid tones.

“When searching for the perfect bright green, think springtime—fresh green grass and newly sprouted leaves,” she says. “These greens have lively undertones that will look comfortable and warm in your white space.

Other colors Kelly recommends adding as accents are yellow, royal blue, orange, blue-purple, red-purple and sky blue.
