2020 See the Creek celebrated nearly a year of work to dedicate an interactive art mural to Newtown Park and the city of Johns Creek. From fundraising and designing to artboard and city-county approvals, and later, managing delays due to COVID, the team remained engaged and committed to seeing this project to completion. The Leadership Johns Creek team knew from the onset that they wanted to do something that was meaningful, would attract attention and visitors to Johns Creek and be a timeless reminder that our differences should be celebrated and never feared. The mural, timely titled, “Everyone Has a Seat at the Creek” is a customized unique piece that represents aspects of Johns Creek and Georgia, along with celebrating the city’s richness in diversity and promoting inclusiveness in a fun and whimsical way. The team members include: Alex Almanza, Taña

WHAT BEGAN AS A SINGLE MOM AND POP CHRISTMAS TREE LOT HAS GROWN TO BE ATLANTA’S ONLY FULL SERVICE HOLIDAY STAPLE. Tradition Co. strings your outdoor lights, delivers and sets up your tree, hangs a wreath on your door, puts a log in your fireplace and does it all in the spirit of Christmas. “Christmas is first and foremost a season of giving,” says Matt Bowman, CEO of Tradition Co., “so we are honored to give a portion of our profits to Atlanta charities.” Since branding as Tradition Trees in 2006, Bowman’s company has donated more than $50,000 to local non-profits, including the Atlanta Community Food Bank, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Winship Cancer Institute and many others. The giving doesn’t stop there. Tradition takes donations from customers to cover the costs associated with delivering trees to worthy Atlanta families that can’t afford a Christmas tree. And it can all be done online. And this year, Tradition Company is partnering with Johns Creek Lifestyle magazine to support Giving Kitchen. One lucky reader who contributes to Giving Kitchen by December 11 (at bit.ly/iloveGK) will win a COVID-friendly Christmas experience. A fresh tree, between 6-8 feet in height, will be delivered and set up by appointment before December 21, and taken down by appointment between December 26 January 12. Plus, dinner delivered from Botica Restaurant (up to $400). Continuing the chill theme, Taste & Tenacity will provide two hours of holiday shopping for the winner (who is responsible for the cost CONTINUED >

of the purchases). Purchases will be delivered, unwrapped, to the winner’s home or office. All benefitting Giving Kitchen, a grassroots organization that provides emergency assistance to food service workers through financial support and a network of community resources. The giveaway was the brainchild of Tradition Co. “Time is everyone’s most valuable resource, so we developed our services with that in mind,” Bowman says. “We source high quality products and back them up with white-glove service. All of our products are available for delivery at our client’s convenience, whether it’s a premium Christmas tree, well-seasoned firewood, or a garden bed.” Bowman specializes in home and property services including landscaping, pressure washing, junk removal, and housekeeping. The car wash has a mobile service that will detail cars at your homes or offices. Go to bit.ly/iloveGK to make a donation and you’ll be automatically entered to win one of two trees donated by Tradition Co for Lifestyle Publications readers. ARTICLE JOHNS CREEK LIFESTYLE STAFF PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED WHERE DO YOU LIKE TO SHOP IN JOHNS CREEK FOR GIFTS? One of my favorite places to shop for gifts is Johns Creek Books and Gifts on Medlock Bridge. I love to read and I have found many great reads in addition to some fabulous gift ideas for friends and family during the holidays. Not only do they have varying genres of new and used books but they also have unique jewelry, crafts, and collectibles from local artists. Another place I go if I’m looking for a great gift is Tuesday Morning because I always come out with a special gift for teachers, friends, and even myself. It has everything from decor to fun crafts and I can always find the perfect holiday gift! WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE HOLIDAY MOVIES AND SONGS? I love listening to music and one of my favorite parts of the holiday season is listening to the old favorites and singing along with family. Although I love the classics like “This Christmas” by Donny Hathway, I also enjoy holiday songs like “Hallelujah” by the Pentatonix and “Winter Song” by Leslie Odom Jr. These songs hold a special place in my heart and whenever I hear them I know the holidays are here! When it’s time to watch a family movie, some of my all-time favorites are The Holiday and Elf and, of course, it wouldn’t be the holidays without my mom insisting that I watch Frosty the Snowman and It’s a Wonderful Life. YOU’RE HAVING A HOLIDAY PARTY...INVITE ANYONE! I would invite Coco Gauff, the youngest player ranked in the top 100 by the Women’s Tennis Association. At only 16-years old, she has proven that you are never too young to achieve incredible things and that is a motto that I live by as a young leader. Another person I would invite is Lin Manuel Miranda, the creator, and songwriter for Hamilton and In the Heights. Hamilton is my favorite musical of all-time because of its clever yet poignant music so I would love to talk to Lin about his songwriting process. The last person I would invite is Billie Eilish who is a young singer-songwriter that has taken Gen Z by storm. I love her music because it is unique and hard-hitting which is why she would OLIVIA SHAFFER IS A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT,

bullet journaling 101

Let’s face it—in today’s so-much-to-do-

and-so-little-time cultural mindset, it can be hard to keep track of everything we need to do. Wake up—did you get enough sleep? Brush your teeth. Feed the kids. Feed the dog. Get ready for work. Make your lunch. Those are just six things to think about in the span of 15 minutes after your alarm goes off. With all of these things to keep track of and our lives moving a mile a minute, anything we

It’s equal parts calendar, meal tracker, diary, self care and, well, really anything else that you want to keep tabs on! GEORGIA STATE PARKS

GET OUTSIDE

B L AC K R O C K M O U N TA I N STAT E PA R K (Clayton) -– As the highest state park in Georgia, Black Rock Mountain offers some of the most inspiring views in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Spend a day or two on the 7.2-mile James E. Edmonds Backcountry Trail to explore laurel-filled coves, small waterfalls, the summit of Lookoff Mountain and stunning vistas of Wolffork Valley. Backpackers can reserve sites in advance and should be prepared to use provided “bear boxes” to store their food.

9,049 acres,

Georgia’s largest state park. The well-maintained Pine Mountain Trail system includes 42 miles of adventure filled with lofty views, waterfalls and mixed hardwood forest. Hikers can choose from six shorter loops along the trail, including the popular 6.7mile Wolfden Loop. Backpacking sites should be reserved well in advance, and history fans should make a side trip to Dowdell’s Knob to find a sculpture of the park’s presidential namesake.
