Happy Hols Johns Creek,

t snowed November 4 in Northern Michigan, dusting my old stomping grounds with the promise of the December holidays. Here in Atlanta, I look for fresh magnolia branches tied with red gingham ribbon and outdoor pots puffed up with red dogwood, vine balls, pine boughs, bittersweet, purple pansies, Redbor kale and cabbages to signal the coming of my favorite holiday season. I scavenged for some giant pine cones on a recent trip to Hilton Head and will dot my Christmas decor with them, remembering when my mom brought me a basket of the huge pine cones she found in the yard of her and my step-dad’s place there.

Forty years earlier, she and I filled paper grocery bags with tiny versions (these mini pine cones were no bigger than a thumbnail) for a Girl Scout project. We saved tuna cans all year and my dad painted them matte black at his shop. Then, we used epoxy to glue 1” pieces of 3/4” copper pipe that he’d cut for us, into the center of the cans to hold a red taper candle. My fellow scouts and I glued the tiny pine cones onto the outside of the little cans, tied together two candles (probably with red gingham ribbon) and voila - gifts for our mothers. We had those pine cone candle holders for years and I’m sure families in our hometown did, too. This year, I’ll visit the wholesale f lorist with my dear friend Sean O’Keefe and chose bundles of fresh f lowers that call out to me. My two daughters will spread them out on the kitchen table, collecting every vase and vessel in the house and arrange the blooms for every room. I’d say it’s a tradition. It’s our second year doing this, so yes, it’s our new tradition. It’s never too late to start making new holiday memories. I’m so nostalgic. Especially at this time of year. I hope you are, too.

Work quickly, you do not want the eggplant to absorb too much flour. Using a deep frying pan, pour in oil leaving one inch from the top. The oil should be very hot. Fry the eggplant until golden brown. Remove and place onto a paper towel

Rainbow Village is a a faith-based educational and holistic approach to breaking the cycle of homelessness, poverty and domestic violence. When she’s not volunteering weekly at her church, she also serves on the Executive Committee for the Board of Directors for the Girl Scouts of Atlanta, hoping to share her passion for volunteering with girls at a young age. Monique and her husband also enjoy spending time with their two teenagers, helping instill an attitude of service in each of them, as well as taking adventure travel trips together.

others, the rewards are heartwarming and immeasurable. You never know the impact you have had on someone's life by a small gesture. When you hear June say, “I believe in serving others, and I try to help other organizations in the community as much as possible,” you know she doesn’t take her passion for giving lightly. This mom to three incredible children – Anthony, Chris, and Brianna – puts family first. Working as the Community Relations Coordinator for Second Wind Dreams, she manages the Dreams Program, their Gifts of Light Program, and Community Relations in Georgia.This national non-profit grants dreams for residents in eldercare communities. They also have an educational program for caregivers of Alzheimer's patients. She supports and attends many community fundraisers and events in North Fulton and around town. When June is not working or volunteering, she loves to be by the ocean.

That is how the lovely and kind Cindy, a Peachtree Corner resident for 28 years, describes herself, listing others she loves as who she is. Her most recent volunteer work has been as a Patient Care Advocate for A Beacon of Hope, as well as Director on their Board of Directors for the past five years. Beacon of Hope, a faith-based non-profit, helps both women and families thrive—during and after an unplanned pregnancy. When Cindy is not volunteering or spending time with her family, she enjoys her membership with the Women's Golf Association at Atlanta Athletic Club, volunteering for the association and playing regularly.

gifts and talents, while teaching them to share their talents and resources with their community and world. Even though Howard owns and runs a content marketing agency, he finds time to volunteer in quite a few

capacities. Some of his favorites include HomeStretch, guiding working homeless families in north metro Atlanta with minor children toward increased self-reliance and stability by providing education, mentoring, and supportive housing. He and his wife Canita help with the Family Promise program through their church. During the year, they host several homeless families providing a place to sleep, meals, and daycare so that parents can go to work each day. Howard says, “My wife, kids and I usually prepare and share the meals. We love that our kids get to spend time with these kids while they are with us. It helps normalize their lives while they are living a very non-normal life growing up where we live.” When not working or volunteering, Howard loves going with his family to music or theater events – especially small or local productions.

If 2020 vision is perfect vision, I want everyone in the world to have 2020 hearing. Spend just a few minutes with the incredibly kind and endearing Jack McConnell, and you’ll almost forget he is a high school student. He has an old soul and has founded the impressive 2020 Hearing charity. He has used his hearing loss to fuel his passion. It’s a local, national, and international organization aimed at providing support for kids and teens with hearing loss. He works with GA Bell Teen Advocate, and has supported the Pediatric Hearing Aid Coverage Law (private Insurance companies in Georgia were mandated to cover pediatric hearing aids). Jack travels throughout the U.S. speaking about the international work they do with the Starkey Hearing Foundation and educating people on hearing loss and the importance of early intervention. “When you fit someone with a hearing aid, their faces light up, and they are smiling, dancing, and praising because they can hear. It goes way beyond giving the gift of hearing, it allows these kids to go to school, the parents to provide for their families, people can now hear their family say ‘I love you’ for the first time. It allows these people to be connected to the world around them. I personally see my hearing loss as a gift to be used to help others with hearing loss,” he says. When Jack is not at school or working for his mission, you can find him on the lacrosse field where he has played for six years.He doesn’t plan to stop anytime soon!

Well known for his oratorio performances as bass soloist, he collaborated with Maestro Shaw on numerous performance projects, including the Mozart Requiem Mass, J.S. Bach’s St. John Passion, and Handel’s Messiah. In 1990, as bass soloist, Maestro Baughman shared the honor of a Grammy Award for the Telarc recording of Belshazzar’s Feast (Walton) and Chichester Psalms (Bernstein) with Robert Shaw and the ASO. Maestro Baughman has held conducting positions at the State University of New York at Cortland and Brevard Music Center. He also served as music director at Peachtree Christian Church in Atlanta for nine years, where his performances of major choral-orchestral works received critical acclaim. Maestro Baughman is recently retired from liturgical music. Now in its eleventh season, the Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra is metro Atlanta’s only fully-professional, parttime symphonic orchestra, made up of professional musicians from all over the greater metro Atlanta area. The Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Founder and Music Director J.
