The Johns Creek Business Association believes in helping to raise up the next generation of strong men and women to make the future of our community bright. The JCBA has awarded nearly $30,000 in scholarships to area high school students since 2008, funded in part from proceeds earned at events like the Casino Night. Save the date for the third annual Casino Night on March 17 at the Atlanta Athletic Club. The St. Patrick’s Day party is open to everyone and tickets are $75. Established in 1997, the JCBA began with a mission to serve, and today, that mission has been realized in helping thousands of area businesses connect to the local economy and providing scholarships to deserving students. As a leading non-profit networking association in the North Fulton/South Forsyth region the group provides members a platform for business without borders through networking and referral opportunities that spans diverse business, city, chamber, and civic organizations in Johns Creek and the counties of Fulton, Forsyth, and Gwinnett. Their networking, education, and strong alliances provide membership a powerful exposure into many business opportunities and activities that are unmatched in the business community of the Johns Creek area. Currently, the membership includes new and growing businesses as well as established Fortune 500 companies in our area. THOMAS AND ROBIN YACKLEY Thomas and Robin Yackley, founders of the Alpharetta Community Chorus, are retired Fulton County music educators. They have a combined teaching experience of 67 years. Thomas earned a Bachelors degree in music education from Bowling Green State University and a Masters degree from Florida State University in choral conducting. Robin earned a Bachelors degree from Florida State University and a Masters degree from Georgia State University, both in music education. Thomas supervises student teachers for Georgia Southern University and has a photography business, Yackley Photo. Together they have worked with graduate level choral conductors at Georgia State University. They also lead the Park Place Social Singers for seniors in the Johns Creek area. The Alpharetta Community Chorus is in its fourth season, having started rehearsing in September of 2013. The non-auditioned group is open to new membership following each concert. The chorus rehearses Tuesday evenings from 7 – 9 p.m., with a music reading training session offered from 6:30 – 7 p.m. They regularly perform three concerts per year plus a summer weekend workshop in addition to performances throughout the community. They perform a wide variety of choral music from Renaissance to Contemporary.

TAMMIE CARTER Tammie Carter has always had a passion for people. Her enthusiasm, motivation, and innate talent for leadership has been instrumental in catapulting her professional career including her most recent accomplishment of brokering the new Johns Creek Crye-Leike Real Estate Office. But it was her genuine love of people and interest in many hobbies that was the foundation for forming the Johns Creek Women’s Club. About a year ago, Tammie had the idea of launching a social club that would provide a platform for women interested in meeting in many capacities and thus, the adventure began. Meeting new people and sharing new hobbies and different interests is just the beginning. The monthly luncheons are held at Saint Ives Country Club the fourth Wednesday of every month with a special event or speaker. Members are enjoying book clubs, birthday babes, lunch bunch, Bon Apetit, movie nights, and much, much more. Membership to the Johns Creek Women’s Club is only $50 a year and will help support the Charity Guild of Saint Ives and Surrounding Areas initiative. CONTINUED >

CHRIS GLAVINE Tom and Chris Glavine are the proud parents of five healthy children ranging in age from 7 to 22. They do not take their good health for granted and have witnessed far too many children who have been diagnosed with cancer. Sadly, these kids are in the fight of their lives, and, far too many have already lost their battles. With Tom’s accomplishments in Major League Baseball, they recognized a unique opportunity to raise awareness and funding for childhood cancer at a national level. Their family decided to become advocates for these children through CURE Childhood Cancer. Less than 4% of federal funding for cancer research is allocated towards curing childhood cancer. Kids’ cancers are different than adult cancers and desperately need different treatments.
