The power of

When

Do My Advisor’s Credentials Matter?

The short answer is: yes.

There are many factors to consider when finding the right financial advisor for your unique situation, and several of those shape the type of credentials you may want in your financial advisor.

In your search, evaluate experience, background, education, and absolutely, credentials. Two of the most recognized in the wealth management space are:

• Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®), which focuses on financial planning, retirement, estate planning, taxes, and more.

• Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®), which demonstrates competency in advanced portfolio management, financial expertise, technical skills, and more.

Both of these designations require that advisors uphold high ethical standards and operate within the fiduciary standard.

At Foster & Motley, we encourage our team to pursue the highest level of credentials — fostering a client-first culture. Learn more about our advisors and these designations on our website.

Uniquely You

Dear Reader,

I hope this letter finds you in high spirits and full of creative energy!

Today, I want to take a moment to celebrate and explore the fascinating world of style. Style is not limited to the clothes we wear or the way we adorn ourselves; it encompasses every aspect of our lives. From the way we decorate our homes to the music we listen to, from the books we read to the way we carry ourselves in conversations, style trends permeate every aspect of our existence.

While style is deeply personal, it’s also ever evolving and heavily influenced by our quirks, passions and desires. Style can be both timeless and avant-garde, with each facet reflecting a unique piece of our personality and even a season of our lives. A form of self-expression, style communicates who we are, how we perceive the world and what we value. In this way, style becomes a powerful tool for connection, as it enables us to find common ground with others who share our aesthetic sensibilities.

As individuals, we have the freedom to embrace established styles, blend them together or forge entirely new paths, becoming trendsetters ourselves. We hope this issue inspires you to seek new paths and appreciate familiar ones. There is so much here in Indian Hill to uplift our spirits, boost your productivity and ignite your creativity.

What I’ve found is that the best style is an authentic expression of who you really are. And if you remain true to that, it’s something no one on earth can duplicate.

Here’s to being uniquely you!

CLASSIC MEN'S FALL FASHION THAT'S ALWAYS IN STYLE

TIMELESS STYLE

Romualdo Pelle, Italian master tailor at Romualdo Sartoria in Madeira.

When Italian master tailor Romualdo Pelle opened his shop, Romualdo Sartoria, downtown Madeira became a fashion center for menswear. Pelle studied to be a tailor longer than it takes to learn to be a doctor—his stitches are made with the same pre-

proportions are different. I adjust the lapels, wider or thinner to complement the measurements. You capiche?”

Here are a few lessons from the master and his apprentices, Co-Owners Chris Berre and Tim Brock, who bought the store from Pelle seven years ago.

"ROMUALDO'S FAVORITE SUIT FOR YOU IS THE ONE THAT MAKES YOU LOOK GOOD AND FEEL GREAT."

cision as that of a seasoned surgeon. He knows that a good suit can instill a sense of confidence like nothing else. Fashion trends come and go, but classic, custom-fitting clothing never goes out of style.

“Sartoria—do you know what that means?” Pelle asks. “It’s a tailor shop!” he says with a wide smile and a sweeping gesture to the store with both hands. It’s plain to see that he enjoys his work. He has been doing it since he started training with his Godfather at age 10.

Pelle’s favorite suit for you is the one that makes you look good and feel great. After eight decades of honing his craft, he barely needs his measuring tape for more than confirmation of what his well-trained eye has already told him.

“Neck, back, chest, sleeves…I’m close pretty much every time,” he says with a twinkle in his eye. “Each person’s

DON’T BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS

Don’t be intimidated to come in the store and ask questions—Romualdo works with men of all shapes, sizes and styles. They can help you fill your closet with clothing that matches your budget, personal style and comfort.

“Our clients become friends,” Brock says.

GET FITTED BY A PROFESSIONAL

A classic suit is all about proportions. Shoulder width informs the shape of the lapels, which frame and flatter your face.

“We prefer to go with the Italian classic style, meaning a little trimmer, but especially for custom, it’s all proportion based. If you stay within the classics and you make clothes or buy clothes and have them tailored to your proportions, you’ll never go out of style,” explains Berre.

“If you get all the proportions right, you can wear a classic suit your whole life,” he adds.

Custom suits are what they’re known for, but Romualdo’s team of tailors mend and fit garments of all kinds: jackets, trousers, jeans, even women’s blouses and formal gowns.

“Romualdo is a legend in menswear and our tailors are the best in town,” Brock says. “Tailoring is included in everything we sell here at the shop,” he adds.

PUT YOUR OWN UNIQUE SPIN ON YOUR STYLE

Berre has been interested in men’s fashion since he was a kid, watching his grandfather work in the garden in a stylish English driver’s cap and tweed jacket. Tune into the style influencers in your life. Let your style loose and have a little fun with it.

“My Dad had shined shoes and a suit coat every day,” Berre reflects. “That made an impact on what I wanted to wear.”

TAKE TIME TO ACCESSORIZE

Accessories elevate your look. Ties, pocket squares, belts and shoes are the finishing touches that express a man’s suit style. Loafers are staging a comeback.

“I like the Edward Armah two-sided pocket squares. They hold their shape and are reversible, with two different prints,” suggests Brock.

“We also have beautiful, locally made belts by Brookes & Hyde of Cincinnati–some traditional leather and some exotics–alligator and ostrich,” he adds.

Tim Brock suits up in a custom-made suit of Portofino fabric, featuring an Edward Armah pocket square, Stenströms dress shirt & Brookes & Hyde belt.
Peter Breidenbach, Madeira Class of 2024, has been working at Romualdo since last February. He wears a young, modern look: Fradi sportcoat over a Stenströms button-down with ankle-length, slim-fit trousers & white sneakers.
“MY

DAD

TAUGHT ME TO DRESS TO THE OCCASION OR ABOVE IT,”

DRESS UP A STEP

You don’t want to be the underdressed one in the room. If you don’t know what you are expected to wear, dress up a step just in case.

“My dad taught me to dress to the occasion or above it,” Berre says. “That has served me well.”

SHOP IN STAGES

The Romualdo team helps assess and outfit your closet to match your day-today fashion needs.

“We want to educate you and help you take an inventory of what you need so you can be prepared to wear what you need and look good,” Berre explains.

Even if you get your first suit off the rack, be sure to bring it in to get it tailored.

“We are going to make it fit perfectly,” says Berre. “Then, when you get a raise or have a special occasion, come in and find something new.”

Let Romualdo help you stay on track for classic style shifts, but feel comfortable and like your look as you wear it. You capiche?

Chris Berre goes business casual in a playful black-and-white suitcoat of exploded houndstooth with white denim pants. He adds texture with a vintage bandana & beaded bracelets.

NEW TILE in town

PORCELAIN PANELS PACK A PUNCH OF BOTH FASHION & FUNCTION

ARTICLE BY TERA MICHELSON | PHOTOGRAPHY BY RF GRAPHIC DESIGNS

Move over marble, there’s a new tile in town. Porcelain panels are the latest and greatest choice for any home renovation, packing a punch of both fashion and function.

Chris Kubik, owner of Kubik House, a local tile contracting company, has been working with porcelain panels since 2020. As early adopters to this style in our area, Kubik and his team have collected tools from Italy and skills from hours of training and experience, becoming specialists with the large 5'x10' panels. He recognizes that workmanship is the key to any tile project.

“Tile work is very precision-based work. It needs to look great, and it needs to last,” Kubik says. “The quality of our work is the number one focus.”

The versatility, durability, aesthetic harmony and wide variety of porcelain panels available make it a low-cost, low-maintenance alternative for shower walls, bathroom floors, countertops, backsplashes and even fireplace surrounds.

“You can hit it with a hammer,” Kubik explains. “It's impervious to water. You'll never have to seal it. There's no grout. It's just very easy to maintain. It’s twice as durable at half the cost of a full slab of natural stone,” he points out.

The textured designs on porcelain panels recreate the look of natural marble, sandstone, granite or wood.

“It can really warm up a large space, making it feel homey instead of cold and sterile,” Kubik says.

Get the upscale look and practical benefits of porcelain panels in your home with the specialized help of the team at Kubik House.

SUPPORTIVE sisterhood

“We see sisters, rather than strangers,” the website for Dress for Success Cincinnati proudly shares. “Our vision is a world where women do not live in poverty, are treated with dignity and respect and are strengthening their families and shaping their communities.”

Since 1999, Dress for Success Cincinnati has empowered women by providing support, professional attire and development tools that can be useful for navigating the job market and at home. The nonprofit organization is celebrating its 25th year of service with a fashion show gala at Cincinnati Museum Center on November 1.

President & CEO of Dress for Success Cincinnati Lisa Nolan explains that about two-thirds of Ohio families living in poverty are single mother heads of household.

“When we’re able to help a woman achieve economic independence and reach self-sufficiency, not only is she being a role model for her family, but she's also supporting the entire community,” Nolan says. “Because that's what women do when they can, they give back.”

fashion FORWARD

Fashion forward Grayson Thornberry has Cincinnati roots, and now as an up-and-coming designer for the renowned menswear label Todd Snyder, he is thriving at his dream job in New York.

Thornberry grew up in suburban Cincinnati and has always been a step ahead in fashion.

The Launch of Fashion Designer & Cincinnati Native Grayson Thornberry

“I can recall times all the way back to kindergarten, me thinking about things I'd worn and what made me like it,” Thornberry reflects.

His interest in design started with footwear—he became interested in soccer cleats during junior high. Then, he created and sold a line of printed t-shirts during high school.

“That was a fun project that got me into making clothes and selling them,” he explains. “We all start somewhere!” he adds.

While at the University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning (DAAP), Thornberry participated in multiple co-op learning experiences, including working in New York with Vera Wang and locally at Romualdo Sartoria in Madeira, before heading to a life-changing semester in London.

“Working at Romualdo was one of the most transformative semesters for me, second only to the London semester,” he shares. “A week into being in London, my father passed away unexpectedly.”

Losing his father was influential to Thornberry’s senior thesis project, a collection named after his father’s nickname for the family home they had been building, Thornbrier.

“I named the collection ‘Thornbrier,’ and I actually shot my lookbook in what would have been his office. I'll cherish that memory forever,” he says.

These are some of the photos from that collection. The designs reflect Thornberry’s inspiration from family heritage, tradition and humanity.

“I really value tradition for what it is and use it to create something that's new,” he explains. “I’m driven to create a better version of what came before.”

Thornberry continues to follow his passion for fashion. He enjoys the collegiality of menswear, especially as a part of the Todd Snyder team.

“I love the product we work on,” says Thornberry. “I love the day-to-day, but more, I love the people I work with. I work with a lot of fellow Midwesterners, and we're like a family.”

Keep a watch on this rising design star, a successful launch from our hometown.

Vertical Gardens Are Moving Indoors

The Stylish Home Design Trend That Will Have You Saying, “Oh, Grow Up!”

Humans have always had a penchant for propagation. Since King Nebuchadnezzar II built The Hanging Gardens of Babylon (one of the original Seven Wonders of the World) in the sixth century BC, artful gardening has fascinated folks. Today, there is a growing trend (pun intended) in home design that echoes that need to nurture, albeit on a much smaller scale. It goes by many names. Environmentalists refer to them as “green walls” or “ecowalls.” Gardeners may prefer “garden wall” or “edible wall.” Designers have dubbed them “statement walls.” But for our purposes here, we will refer to them as the architects do — as “vertical gardens.”

A vertical garden is essentially a wall, or part of a wall, that is covered with plants growing in soil or another type of medium. Though they began as outdoor architectural attractions, these wonderful wallscapes are popping up indoors, and their benefits go beyond a fancy facade.

The most obvious benefit of a vertical garden is the visual beauty it brings to the room. Its unexpected presence adds surprise and drama, while its living tenants, with their varied textures and individual personalities, add energy and a bit of charm as well.

Beyond the aesthetic advantages, living walls have health benefits. They improve the air quality by adding humidity, trapping dust particles, and absorbing many harmful gasses, replacing them with oxygen. They can help with cardiovascular issues like blood pressure as well as breathing problems associated with allergies and asthma. Because they lend a sense of calm and well being, they can even improve concentration, elevate mood, and reduce stress.

Because these living walls are becoming more popular, demand is driving the price down, making them more affordable for the average homeowner. Kits are available and most feature an integrated water delivery system which makes them low maintenance as well.

As for which types of plants to grow, succulents, mosses, grasses, and ferns are all good choices. Tropical vines work well also, as they can trail down or climb up. Pothos and philodendrons have great climbing capabilities, are fast growing, and low maintenance. The design possibilities are as endless as the plant combinations. So bring the outside in! Simply choose a location with bright, indirect light, and turn your wall into a living piece of artwork with a vertical garden.
