"Every woman's success should be an inspiration to another. We're strongest when we cheer each other on." -Serena
Williams
Confident, strong and poised are the words that come to mind when I think of women who've inspired me over the years. There’s something truly special about taking a moment to recognize the women in our lives who make the world more vibrant and beautiful. Whether it's our mothers, daughters, friends or colleagues, these women are often the silent forces that shape our days and make life richer.

With Mother’s Day this month, our thoughts naturally turn to all those incredible women—biological mothers and mother figures alike—who have made an unforgettable impact on us. It’s the teachers, the friends, the neighbors and the family members who offer their love, wisdom and support in countless ways.
I have been inspired by so many women in life: from my mother, who chose an alternative education style way before it was "en vogue;" to friends, who've supported me through joys and trials; and leaders in business, who've led the way to show me what's possible by paving the way. We all stand on the shoulders of giants.
This month, as we celebrate the remarkable women in our lives, I also want to encourage you to support local businesses owned by women in our community. One of my favorite parts of this job is connecting with and championing the incredible women here in Cincinnati. From movers and shakers to makers and builders, these women bring so much to the table, both seen and unseen. Their contributions, often behind the scenes, create beauty and impact that cannot be replicated.
Take a moment this month to recognize the women in your life. Send a text, make a phone call, or arrange a video call with the women who have made a difference for you. It’s a simple but powerful way to brighten someone’s day and remind them how much they’re loved.
Here’s to celebrating the women who make life so much more meaningful Happy Mother’s Day and cheers to the ladies who inspire us every day!

When life and work feel overwhelming, most professional people push forward anyway–hoping clarity will eventually show up on its own. Jill McCarthy, President of Adventure Bright and a Gallup-certified strengths coach based in Cincinnati, knows a better way. She’s built a career, and a signature program, around helping professional leaders find their path on purpose
McCarthy’s approach is disarmingly practical.
“I developed it for any professional leader that has some chaos, and they need some clarity,” she says.
That philosophy sits at the heart of her PATH program–a structured yet flexible framework that has helped clients land new jobs, earn long-overdue promotions and reconnect with what they actually want from their professional (and personal) lives.
PATH stands for Purpose, Action, Time and Honor. It’s not a vision board exercise or a motivational pep talk. It’s a process. The first phase invites clients to explore what they genuinely enjoy, who they are today and where they truly want to go–questions that sound simple but often stop people cold. From there, concrete action steps are built directly around an individual’s natural strengths and talents.
“Let’s not overcomplicate it,” McCarthy says. “People like checklists and to have a plan they can work.”
The program is available one-on-one, in small group formats and can be embedded directly within corporate
teams. McCarthy works with everyone from individual contributors to senior leaders and she describes her ideal client as someone who is capable and accomplished, but stuck.
“Really helping individuals that feel stuck and need to get on a path, we create and execute a system to get them going,” she explains.
The results speak for themselves. One client–a woman who came into the program simply wanting to make more money–emerged a year and a half later with a new job, a new car, a renewed passport and a fundamentally shifted life. Another client, an engineer 27 years into his career, used PATH’s emphasis on honoring your network to build intentional relationships with leadership–and earned a well-deserved promotion within the year.
McCarthy’s background makes her unusually well-suited for this work. With 20 years in insurance and employee benefits–including time as a sales operations manager leading teams across the country–she understands corporate environments from the inside out. She’s coaching from deep, real-world experience.
She’s also coaching from her own story. When COVID hit, her company was just two years old and she found herself at a genuine crossroads. She knew one thing for sure: she wanted to show her son that hard times can be navigated when you stay grounded.
“I’m gonna show him that we can do this,” she says of her then 5-year-old son. “His mom owns a business. We’re gonna make this work.” She did. Adventure Bright took off in 2021, expanding to include clients from around the globe.
The company name itself is intentional. CONTINUED

“If you’re in the depths, you can’t see all the brightness,” McCarthy explains. Her work is about helping clients find it–not through false optimism, but through honest, practical effort.
“Not a Pollyanna spin, but a positive spin,” as she puts it. “I love chaos, and I love helping people with the clarity of it, and then seeing really what’s on the inside to make them shine.”
For area professional leaders ready to move forward with real intention–whether navigating a career pivot, developing a stronger team or simply reclaiming a sense of direction in their work–Jill McCarthy and Adventure Bright are definitely worth a conversation.

The Barn, a cultural arts center open to all, is nestled among the private residences of Cambridge Avenue in Mariemont. Many pass the striking white-shingled building unaware of the vibrant art classes, summer camps, exhibitions, showers, weddings and events held within its carefully restored walls—or its storied history.
“People are so surprised to see a beautiful art gallery in the middle of a barn, in the middle of a neighborhood,” shares Executive Director Christine Parker.
The Barn is the cherished home of The Woman’s Art Club of Cincinnati Cultural Center. Originally part
of Mariemont founder Mary Emery’s "garden of rest" vision for former Emery Industries employees—meant to include a farm, hospital and retirement cottages—only
The Barn (known as Resthaven Barn) and the hospital were finished before her death. In the 1930s, it served as a dairy for Lindner Quality Milk until United Dairy Farmers was established.
The Woman’s Art Club became part of Resthaven Barn’s story in 2007. Alongside the Mariemont Preservation Foundation and a generous donation from the Lindner family, they made it their mission to purchase it from the

city, preserve it for the community and cultivate a space for artists and people of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy the arts.
“We have three legs we stand on: art and the artists who create it, stewardship of this incredible historic building with an incredible story and the community that happens between people. That's what makes it magical,” Christine says.
There are plenty of reasons for more people to experience the magic of The Barn, but two upcoming events couldn’t be more perfect.
Myrtle Blankenbuehler, a Woman’s Art Club member and active volunteer at The Barn, recently passed away at the age of 105. Her daughter, Debbie Latham, reached out to see if they could hold an exhibition of her artwork in the gallery.
Debbie notes, “My mother knew that this building could fulfill the dream for The Woman's Art Club. To have a permanent place, where artists could gather, learn from one another and create a space that dovetailed into the vision of Mary Emery, building community through art.”
That dream and Blankenbuehler’s steadfast determination to preserve Resthaven Barn come full circle with her gallery exhibition "Storied Women: Myrtle Blankenbuehler," on May 7-12, with an opening reception on May 8 from 6-8 p.m.
On May 7, Concierge Medicine of Cincinnati presents Hormones & Harmony: An Artistic Evening of Wellness Celebration. The event, featuring food, drinks and hormone education with CMoC's Ronda Lehn, CNP, and Menopause Society Certified Practitioner, concludes with a stress-relieving, hands-on artistic project.
This summer, The Barn will be bustling with art camps, including their popular DIY Studio and Sewing & Fashion Design Camps for tweens and teens. Christine also hopes to establish a free coffee shop on Friday mornings for folks to stop by, grab a cup and admire the artwork.
“A lot of smart, kind and giving people came before us,” enthuses Christine. “And now it's our turn to continue the hard work and make The Barn financially stable. What we see for the future is really about offering more ways for people to embrace this treasure.”

The power of taste, trust, and the courage to “just start.”
She didn’t have a business plan, a media budget, or even a name anyone could pronounce. What Becky Hillyard had was taste, a young family, and the instinct to just start. Today, her lifestyle brand Cella Jane commands an audience the size of Vogue’s , she’s nine collections strong with Splendid, and she’s built it all while raising three kids — refusing to sacrifice one for the other. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Becky shares what it really takes to build a brand, a career, and a life you love. Read the highlights below, then scan the QR code for the full conversation.

Q: WHEN DID YOU KNOW CELLA JANE WAS MORE THAN A HOBBY?
A: Two moments. Women started emailing me saying they bought something I recommended and felt amazing — asking me to help them find a dress for a wedding. That felt incredible. Then I looked at my affiliate numbers for one month and realized I could cover our mortgage. I thought, I can actually do this. I never set out to build a business. I started it because I genuinely loved it.

Q: WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST RISK YOU EVER TOOK WITH THE BRAND?
A: Designing my own collection. It’s easy to point at items on a website and say I love these. But to create something from scratch, put your name on it, and wait to see if people connect with it — that’s terrifying. I had an incredible partner in Splendid, and women loved the pieces. It was the biggest risk and the biggest accomplishment.
Q: HOW HAS INFLUENCER MARKETING CHANGED SINCE YOU STARTED?
A: When I started, brands didn’t know whether to take it seriously. Now it’s a legitimate line item in their marketing budgets — sometimes bigger than TV. Because what we’ve built is trust. People trust a real recommendation from someone they follow far more than a commercial. There’s no question about it now.
Q: YOU’RE A MOM OF THREE RUNNING A FULL BRAND. WHAT DOES YOUR DAY ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE?
A: I try to get up at five and not hit snooze — that first hour before the house wakes up is the most productive, most peaceful hour of my day. Then it’s all hands on deck with the kids and school drop-off. After that I work — planning content, connecting with my team, editing. After pickup, the day shifts completely and it’s all about them. I’ve learned to protect both halves fiercely, because both matter.

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BUILD SOMETHING OF THEIR OWN BUT KEEPS WAITING?
A: Don’t wait. Don’t wait for the perfect camera, the right strategy, or enough followers. We find every excuse to stay comfortable. Just start, be consistent, and be authentically yourself. The right people will find you — and they’ll stay.
This conversation is just the beginning. Becky goes deeper on the risks that almost stopped her, the design process behind her latest Splendid collection, and what she’d tell her 2012 self today. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on the Share the Lifestyle podcast.
“Trust is the only metric that actually compounds.”

Grassroots Organization Brings Women Together, One Event at a Time

Social opportunities and new friendships can be hard for anyone to come by. In Greater Cincinnati, however, one organization is finding success in bringing women together.
“We’re helping normalize something that used to feel uncomfortable,” Tara Osborne, founder of Cincy Girls Who, explains. “Showing up alone, starting over, and seeking connection as an adult; that cultural shift is where the real, lasting impact lives.”
Today, she notes, Cincy Girls Who reaches approximately 50,000 women across Greater Cincinnati each month.
The nonprofit group’s no-cost events include community park and neighborhood walks; meetups like run clubs, trivia nights and hobby-based gatherings; wellness-focused events such as yoga, workshops or speaker sessions; and social events like happy hour, cocktail-creation classes and vision boarding.
“We also use our digital community spaces to help women coordinate their own meetups,” Tara remarks. “The connection extends beyond just our scheduled events. We have a group chat with over 250 subgroups across professions, hobbies and neighborhoods.”
The goal, she says, is to make it easy for women to plug in at any level, and connect in a relaxed setting. The result?
“Women who once felt isolated are now building real friendships,” Tara says. “They’re finding people to travel with, celebrate milestones with and lean on during difficult seasons. What starts as a walk often turns into a support system.”
Tara–and the organization itself–began with one foot in front of the other.
“It started very simply: I hosted a walk and invited women to join me,” she explains.

“I focused on creating something that felt welcoming, low pressure and easy to say ‘yes’ to. From there, I shared consistently on social media, highlighted real women in the community and made it clear that this was for anyone who wanted to show up,” Tara says.
Organic growth, she adds, has been one of the most powerful parts of building Cincy Girls Who.
“With growth comes a lot of fun ways to bring others in on the community. I’ve focused a lot on building unique partnerships with local businesses and organizations, which helps expand both our reach and the types of experiences we could offer. At the same time, I kept hearing the same thing from other women who had been in similar moments of their life: ‘I want to make friends here, I just don’t know how.’ That really stuck with me.”
Cincy Girls Who came from that shared experience.
“It was built on the idea that connection shouldn’t feel complicated or intimidating,” she adds. “It should feel natural. Sometimes all it takes is a place to show up.”
Ready to join them? You won’t be alone.
“We regularly see anywhere from 50 to over 200 women attend larger events like our seasonal kickoff walks,” Tara proudly reports.
Smaller meetups and recurring gatherings continue to grow as well, which demonstrates that connection is happening—not just at large events, but in more personal settings, as well.
“One of the biggest misconceptions is that you have to be outgoing or already confident to participate,” she points out. “In reality, most women who come to Cincy Girls Who are showing up with some level of uncertainty; that’s the whole point.”
Cincy Girls Who, Tara stresses, “is more than just a walking group.”
While walking is often the entry point, it’s only a cornerstone of a larger community-driven organization.
“It is about creating a space where women can show up as they are, try something new and find a sense of belonging,” she says.
“And yes,” Tara adds with a smile, “your dog and kids can come too!”

This Berry Bruschetta is a delightful twist on the classic bruschetta that we all love. This version uses fruit, bringing a sweet element to the traditionally savory dish. With the use of fresh berries, cream cheese, delicious fruit spread, crumbled cheese, and fresh rosemary, it is the perfect addition to your next spring event. This simple, yet beautiful appetizer could be enjoyed at your next brunch, shower or Mother’s Day celebration. But let’s be honest—you don’t need an excuse to enjoy this delectable dish!
INGREDIENTS:
• 12 baguette slices
• Extra virgin olive oil (for brushing)
• 4 oz cream cheese
• 1/4 cup Fruit and Honey Triple Berry Spread (or any fruit spread of your choice)
• 1/3 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
• 1/3 cup fresh blueberries
• 2 oz fruit cheese (such as Wensleydale with Autumn Fruit), crumbled
• Fresh rosemary for garnish
DIRECTIONS:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. Lightly brush the front and back of the baguette slices with Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
3. Toast baguette slices in the oven for 3-5 minutes or until lightly toasted.
4. Once the baguette slices are cool, spread a generous layer of cream cheese over each slice.
5. Add the fruit spread on top of the cream cheese.
6. Add sliced strawberries and a few blueberries, allowing the vibrant colors to pop. (A great place to find fresh fruit is our local staple, Crystal & Rich’s Produce.)
7. Crumble the fruit cheese over the top for an added layer of richness and depth.
8. Garnish with fresh Rosemary if desired.
9. Serve and enjoy!
