LIFESTYLE LETTER

Living In Style We often think of style in terms of fashion, sophistication, and perhaps even a hint of snobbery. But being stylish, living stylishly goes beyond clothes and nice things. It is living with grace, fearlessness in the face of challenges, living beautifully even in the most normal of days, finding joy even in the hardest of days. Style isn't just looking a certain way, it is how you care, how you give, how you love, how you use your talent, how you interact with other people, how you choose over and over again bravery not fear. In this style issue we encourage you to live stylishly - really live. In Flying High In Style we showcase some first class looks and celebrate Alabama's Year of Aviation. And drum roll please...we have our annual Huntsville's Most Stylish, one of our favorite features of the year. And do not miss Sewing a Legacy about North Alabama native and SCAD graduate Cyerra Latham making waves in the fashion world. We leave you with a quote on living beautifully: “Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live.” - Coco Chanel Long. Live. Print.

In 1910 Wilbur and Orville Wright opened the first civilian flying school in an old cotton plantation on the outskirts of Montgomery, thus beginning Alabama’s history in aviation. From William Lafayette Quick who invented wheeled landing gear to the Tuskegee Airmen to the birth of aerospace, aviation has been and continues to be a part of our state’s history. WHERE DOES YOUR STYLE INSPIRATION COME FROM?

My style inspiration comes from my mom! She always seems to find the perfect balance of color, comfort, and fun. Her sense of style has taught me that dressing beautifully doesn’t have to be complicated! As a mom, I hope to carry on that same joyful, approachable style.

CHRIS Penney Photo Credit: Tresa Peppers

WHAT IS A FASHION STAPLE IN YOUR WARDROBE?

A staple in my wardrobe is…Color! I love adding pops of color to my outfits—it’s an easy way to make even simple, timeless pieces feel fresh and fun. To me, color feels approachable and happy, and it reflects how I try to live. I also think color can lift your mood and make getting dressed a lot more fun!

WHAT CAN WE CATCH YOU WEARING MOST DAYS AROUND TOWN?

Most days, you’ll find me in casual, comfortable clothes—usually something simple and easy to move in—paired with a great pair of sneakers. I love sneakers because I can wear them with everything from athleisure to a dress. They are the most versatile thing in my closet!

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BECOME MORE STYLISH?

My advice for someone looking to be more stylish is don’t overcomplicate it—start with pieces that make you feel comfortable and confident. Your style should be a reflection of who you are! And remember: timeless doesn’t mean boring! Choose classic pieces you love, and then have fun layering in your personality. Most of all, wear what makes you feel like the best version of yourself!

WHAT IS ONE TREND YOU WOULD LOVE TO SEE MAKE A COMEBACK?

A trend I would love to see come back is modesty. You don’t have to show a lot of skin to make a statement or to look beautiful. I believe true beauty shines when you’re comfortable, confident, and reflecting joy from the inside out.

WHERE DOES YOUR STYLE INSPIRATION COME FROM?

ASHLEY Walker

Luxe Bohemian, think Talitha Getty meets Slim Keith

WHAT IS A FASHION STAPLE IN YOUR WARDROBE?

Colored Shoes...I mean, red is my neutral.

WHEN DID YOUR LOVE FOR FASHION BEGIN?

First Garanimals, then Seventeen Magazine and the Preppy Handbook

WHAT CAN WE CATCH YOU WEARING MOST DAYS AROUND TOWN? Lots of dresses, one and done.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BECOME MORE STYLISH?

Find your base, like a uniform, that flatters your shape and then embellish with unique accessories.

WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO SHOP?

I’m an equal opportunity shopper, love the Huntsville boutiques, but I definitely, always try to pick up unique accessories when I travel.

WHAT IS ONE TREND YOU WOULD LOVE TO SEE MAKE A COMEBACK?

If it looks good on you, nothing is ever out of style.

WHERE DOES YOUR STYLE INSPIRATION COME FROM?

My style inspo largely comes from myself and what I feel comfortable in. I do like certain trends and styles. Sometimes I’ll make a whole outfit around one item like a tie, shoes or a watch.

CHARLES Harris

WHAT IS A FASHION STAPLE IN YOUR WARDROBE?

A fashion staple for me is actually plural... Accessories! The right wrist-beads, rings and/or necklace can make your outfit pop for sure.

WHEN DID YOUR LOVE FOR FASHION BEGIN?

My love for fashion began back home growing up in Atlanta. I can’t remember an actual age, I’ve just always been this way. Having stylish older brothers & a stylish dad, I wanted to stay fashionable, matching and relevant.

WHAT CAN WE CATCH YOU WEARING MOST DAYS AROUND TOWN?

Most days (and I do mean most of them) you can catch me in a pair of Chucks; Converse.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BECOME MORE STYLISH?

Dress to your body type. Find and observe individuals you fashionably admire with similar statures.

WHERE DOES YOUR STYLE INSPIRATION COME FROM?

ARIA Cauthen Photo Credit: Tamika Watford

My style inspiration comes from how I’m feeling in that moment. I love anything eye catching and bold that expresses my vibrant personality.

WHAT IS A FASHION STAPLE IN YOUR WARDROBE?

Some staples in my wardrobe include a nice jacket, dramatic over coat or long garment/ fabric to bring my look together. I also love a good shoe.

WHEN DID YOUR LOVE FOR FASHION BEGIN?

My love for fashion and style really began in college when I joined the modeling organization at my Alma mater, Alabama A&M University. I’ll always love Ward Modeling Troop Incorporated for instilling show-stopping confidence, bold presence and deep fashion history into my veins.

WHAT CAN WE CATCH YOU WEARING MOST DAYS AROUND TOWN?

Depending on the day, you’ll catch me in beautiful bold colors, or a really dressed down casual look. I love flowing garments, comfortable clothing and pieces that express my bold creativity .

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BECOME MORE STYLISH?

My advice would to remain as authentic as possible. Don’t be afraid to get creative, and think outside the box to try new things.

WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO SHOP?

Macy’s was a staple in my household growing up and I always found trendy pieces. My latest addiction is Temu. You don’t need to spend a lot of money to be fashionable.

WHAT IS ONE TREND YOU WOULD LOVE TO SEE MAKE A COMEBACK?

I’m currently loving the maximalist/ dopamine style. I’d love to see more statement brooches make a comeback.

50

LOCA L LIM E LIGH T | BEAU T Y

WHERE DOES YOUR STYLE INSPIRATION COME FROM?

My inspiration comes from a mix of timeless icons, like Grace Kelly and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, with a little modern edge. I’m drawn to clean lines, beautiful fabrics, and pieces that make you feel confident without trying too hard. I also love finding inspiration in interior design and architecture. Structure, balance, and contrast all play a role in how I dress.

WHAT IS A FASHION STAPLE IN YOUR WARDROBE?

A neutral block heel is my ultimate go-to. It’s the kind of shoe that quietly pulls an outfit together while adding just the right amount of height and polish. Whether I’m wearing tailored pants, a midi dress, or even denim, it adds that effortless elegance I’m always aiming for - comfortable enough for a full day on my feet and around town, but never lacking in style.

WHAT IS ONE TREND YOU WOULD LOVE TO SEE MAKE A COMEBACK?

Hats. Not just for bad hair days, but the kind you wear on purpose. A great hat (even a baseball cap) can pull a whole look together, and I’d love to see more people bring them back into everyday style.

NICOLE Hartenbach

WHEN DID YOUR LOVE FOR STYLE/ FASHION BEGIN?

It started with my grandmother, who was from France and had this effortlessly chic way of dressing. She always wore the same color from head to toe, down to her shoes and bag. Which, looking back, is probably where my love for matching sets began. Later, I’d watch the Oscars red carpet with my mom, totally captivated by the gowns and the glamour. Those early moments sparked a lifelong love for style that’s both expressive and refined.

WHAT CAN WE CATCH YOU WEARING MOST DAYS AROUND TOWN?

Most days, you’ll find me in a pair of tailored denim pants, a soft tee, structured blazer, and a comfortable heel for just the right amount of lift. It’s a blend of casual and polished that works just as well for a client meeting as it does for running errands or grabbing coffee downtown.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BECOME MORE STYLISH?

Start with the classics. Find silhouettes that flatter you, invest in quality over quantity, and don’t be afraid to develop a signature “look.” Style isn’t about following every trend. It’s about knowing what works for you and wearing it with confidence.

WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO SHOP?

I love a mix of boutiques and well-curated online finds. I always keep an eye on Saks and Net-aPorter for timeless staples (I love Zimmerman and Veronica Beard), but I also enjoy discovering unexpected gems at smaller shops during my travels. But in Huntsville, you’ll catch me most at Dillards.

WHERE DOES YOUR STYLE INSPIRATION COME FROM?

TAMIKA Watford

I’m a huge fan of Vivienne Westwood. I love her eccentric styling choices, the playful silhouettes, and bold use of color. Her work is vibrant, campy, and wonderfully weird in all the best ways! It really inspires me to have fun with fashion.

WHAT IS A FASHION STAPLE IN YOUR WARDROBE?

I’m obsessed with fun scarves and ultra-cropped jackets. and anything with dramatic bell sleeves ! oh, and I love chunky sneakers or any boots!

WHEN DID YOUR LOVE FOR FASHION BEGIN?

I’ve always loved experimenting with clothes. When I was younger, I went through a phase where I was into layering belts. Well really anything. It was wild, but you couldn’t tell me it didn’t look amazing!

WHAT CAN WE CATCH YOU WEARING MOST DAYS AROUND TOWN?

Probably my criss-cross jeans! I actually made them myself, and they’re my absolute favorite. I love creating my own clothing that truly reflects my style.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BECOME MORE STYLISH?

Dress for you! Pull inspiration from everywhere! Fashion has no rules as long as you love what you’re wearing.

WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO SHOP?

The thrift store! It’s fun, affordable, and full of possibilities. I especially love finding old dresses and transforming them into jackets or other pieces. There’s something magical about upcycling and giving clothes a new life.

WHAT IS ONE TREND YOU WOULD LOVE TO SEE MAKE A COMEBACK?

I’m not sure! But I did really love the era of bold, structured suits for women, that was such a strong, stylish moment.

52

WHERE DOES YOUR STYLE INSPIRATION COME FROM?

My style is inspired by various fashion magazines.

WHAT IS A FASHION STAPLE IN YOUR WARDROBE?

MAGGIE Rees

A staple in my wardrobe is the brand Celine.

WHEN DID YOUR LOVE FOR FASHION BEGIN?

I would say my interest in fashion started when I was a teenager.

WHAT CAN WE CATCH YOU WEARING MOST DAYS AROUND TOWN?

What you can see me wearing around town are bootcut jeans with fancy tops.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BECOME MORE STYLISH?

I would say color theory. Find what colors complement your look and build a wardrobe around those colors.

WHAT IS ONE TREND YOU WOULD LOVE TO SEE MAKE A COMEBACK?

Denim! Denim dresses, denim tops on jeans... all the denim!

WHAT CAN WE CATCH YOU WEARING MOST DAYS AROUND TOWN? A flat cap and a pair of Ferragamo loafers.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BECOME MORE STYLISH?

Even a modestly-priced suit can look sharp with some tailoring and the right accessories.

WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO SHOP? Barney’s in New York.

Florence native and SCAD graduate Cyerra Latham’s Western inspired designs

Sewing A Legacy 58

ARTICLE BY AMY BAILEY

WHERE WERE YOU BORN AND HOW DID YOUR CHILDHOOD SHAPE YOUR LOVE FOR FASHION?

I was born and raised in Florence, Alabama, in a close-knit family that played a significant role in shaping my passion for fashion and design. My grandmother, a mother of seven, believed that sewing was an essential life skill and made it a point to teach all of her children. That foundational influence continued with my father, who taught me how to create my first garment—a silk scarf.Growing up, he made my Halloween costumes from scratch each year, and those moments spent working alongside him deeply inspired my love for design. I often say that my creativity stems from both my grandmother and my father, who are the two individuals I admire most when it comes to design. Their influence continues to motivate me and fuel my passion for creating.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU IN YOUR DESIGNS?

My designs are often inspired by the world around me—whether it’s my surroundings, a cultural moment, or a story I feel compelled to share. For me, fashion goes beyond simply creating garments; it’s a powerful form of storytelling. I believe that when a design resonates emotionally and connects with someone on a deeper level, it becomes more than just clothing—it becomes a meaningful experience. Making that kind of impact through my work is what drives my passion for design.

WHAT ABOUT SOUTHERN CULTURE INSPIRES YOU?

Southern culture is a deep source of inspiration in my design work—it’s part of my roots. I come from a family of hardworking individuals: sharecroppers, farmers, ranchers, welders, and builders. Their dedication, resilience, and strong sense of community have profoundly shaped my values and creative perspective. The traditions of the South—rodeos, farming, and industrial work—continue to influence my aesthetic. I aim to blend the grit and authenticity of Southern heritage with the sophistication of high fashion. By merging these two worlds, I strive to create designs that not only honor where I come from but also make a meaningful impact in the fashion industry. CONTINUED >

“It felt like a place where I could truly grow, both creatively and personally, and it has remained my dream school ever since.”

HOW DID YOU DECIDE TO GO TO SCAD?

I’ve known since around the age of 10 that I wanted to attend SCAD. During family vacations to Savannah, Georgia, we would often visit the campus, and from the moment I stepped foot there, I felt an immediate sense of belonging. The creative atmosphere, inspiring workspaces, and vibrant community of artists and designers left a lasting impression on me. It felt like a place where I could truly grow, both creatively and personally, and it has remained my dream school ever since.

WHERE DID THE INSPIRATION FOR YOUR LATEST COLLECTION COME FROM?

The inspiration behind my latest fashion collection, Lasso & Luxe, came from a deeply personal place—my desire to tell my parents’ love story through fashion. This Fall/Winter Women’s and Men’s Wear collection is rooted in my family’s heritage and reflects the union of two distinct cultures that shaped my identity as a designer. My father is from Mississippi, where Western culture—with its rugged charm, rich textures, and timeless traditions—is part of everyday life. In contrast, my mother embodies the glamour and sophistication of California, a state known for its Hollywood allure and bold style. Their marriage wasn’t just the joining of two individuals, but the merging of two very different worlds. Lasso & Luxe explores that contrast, fusing rustic

Southern elegance with refined Californian polish. The collection is a visual narrative—woven with textured fabrics, layered silhouettes, and a rich color palette—that captures both the grit and grace of my roots. In creating this collection, I saw a reflection of myself: a tapestry of cultures, a love story expressed in design, and a tribute to the legacy of where I come from.

HOW CAN PEOPLE FIND YOUR DESIGNS?

Currently, my designs can be viewed on my Instagram page, where I regularly share my latest work. I offer custom garments tailored to each client’s individual style, as well as alterations to ensure the perfect fit. For commissions, inquiries, or collaboration opportunities, feel free to reach out via Instagram or contact me directly at macklathamstudio@gmail.com

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE FABRICS TO WORK WITH? COLORS?

Some of my favorite fabrics to work with include leather, faux fur, suede, wool, silk, and cotton. I’m drawn to these materials because of their versatility, texture, and the way they can bring both structure and movement to a garment. Each fabric allows me to explore different aspects of storytelling through design—whether it’s the boldness of leather, the softness of silk, or the timeless comfort of cotton. CONTINUED >

WHAT’S NEXT FOR CYERRA?

WHO IS YOUR MENTOR OR MENTORS?

For my most recent collection, I had the privilege of being mentored by several influential figures. Simon Ungless, founder of When Simon Met Ralph, offered invaluable creative insight and industry expertise that helped shape my approach to design. I also worked closely with my senior professor at SCAD, Yasha Morehouse, whose guidance and mentorship pushed me to refine my vision and elevate my technical skills. In addition to my academic and industry mentors, I consider my father, Tony Latham, one of my most important supporters and mentors. He not only offers thoughtful guidance on business decisions but also reminds me to

Looking ahead, I am incredibly excited to enter the fashion industry by developing my own business focused on creating custom pieces tailored to my clients’ unique styles. At the same time, I plan to work with an established brand to gain hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of the production process. I want to refine my skills and broaden my industry knowledge. Ultimately, my long-term goal is to build my own fashion manufacturing company, Mack Latham Studios, where I can combine creativity with innovation to produce high-quality, meaningful designs. I am passionate about creating a brand that not only reflects my vision but also supports sustainable practices and empowers other creatives along the way.

Cr yst al-clear waters and perfectly white sandy beaches await to recharge the spirits of all wear y travelers. Cancún is known around the world as one of Mexico’s finest tourist destinations. Steeped in the rich history of the Mexican Caribbean, Cancún offers visitors the best that the Yucatán Peninsula has to offer. Whether you are coming for the all-inclusive resort experience or are looking to enjoy the seemingly never-ending gorgeous beaches, Cancún has it all. Unbelievably fresh and delicious seasonal cuisine, great weather, a rich cultural history, exquisitely clear turquoise blue Caribbean waters, and vibrant coral reefs are all waiting for you to explore when you arrive. Nature lovers, environmentalists, thrill seekers, and luxury destination travel enthusiasts all have a place to call home in Cancún. Boulevard Kukulkan, more commonly known as the Hotel Zone, is home to Cancún’s most luxurious all-inclusive hotels and boasts some of the city’s finest restaurants, nightclubs, and shopping centers. This fifteen-mile-long sand bar separates the Caribbean Sea from the Laguna Inchoate. The brackish waters of

the lagoon’s nature reserve and Mangrove ecosystem offer an exciting, ecologically friendly look into the rich natural history of Cancún. On the other side of the boulevard, crystal-clear waters and perfectly white sandy beaches await to recharge the spirits of all weary travelers. The JW Marriott Resort and Spa is the place to stay while in Cancún. You'll be met by the most gracious of staff and a high level of service is standard across the property. This impeccably designed resort features multiple pools, an incredible spa, countless delicious restaurants, and a delightful lobby bar featuring over 150 signature margaritas. Caring for the mind and body should be an essential part of everyone’s travel. A little physical exercise is a necessary element of any vacation for me. Puerto Maya Cancún combines a look into the historical Mayan culture of the Yucatán followed by an amazing speed boat tour of both the lagoon and the sea. And, just when you think it can’t get any better, it’s time to jump in and swim around. Snorkeling on the vibrant coral reefs and visiting MUSA, the Cancun Underwater Museum of Art, absolutely recharges the mind, body, and soul. It is an incredible workout! If you care to go a little further out of the city, Cenotes Zapote Eco-Tour awaits. Cenotes are natural sinkholes that expose cool, refreshing, groundwater CONTINUED >

that is both invigorating and spiritually refreshing at the same time. There are over 6000 cenotes on the Yucatán, each one is unique and otherworldly. Floating or frolicking in the cool waters inside the earth is the ultimate spa experience. There are zip lines or diving platforms at most cenotes and they are well worth experiencing. While it is nice to explore the “Hotel Zone”, you don't have to leave the hotel to experience fine international dining at its best! Sacbé Beach Shack, located in the adjoining Marriott property was beyond belief. Situated directly on the sandy beaches beneath the hotel, the "beach shack" is a whimsically designed bar and dining room offering a perfect oceanside culinary experience. The freshest local ingredients were artfully combined to create a scrumptious offering that highlights regional Mexican cuisines. The mezcal lab experience with famed Master Mezcalier, Chef Benjamín Nava Vargas was an unexpected treat and opened a door to a delicious understanding and appreciation of small-batch mezcals. Other JW Marriott Resort and Spa culinary treasures include Hana Polynesian Grill’s themed dining room. Perfectly crafty cocktails paired wonderfully with the authentic Polynesian Islands menu. The evening’s festivities were highlighted by a completely themed costumed troupe of singers and dancers performing time-honored Polynesian fire dances. While visiting, be sure to explore Kasai Izakaya, Club 91, and Bravo, a very fresh take on modern Spanish cuisine. And, when it feels like it’s time to leave the hotel again, check out Chambao Cancún. Just think of it as an interactive curated dinner theatre experience with pop-up music, dance, fashion, and acrobatic activations staged throughout the evening. Cancún should be at the top of everyone’s travel list. Trust me, you can thank me later. JW-Marriott.marriott.com PuertoMayaCancun.com CenotesZapote.com ChambaoRestaurant.com

Ambiance: Throw pillows are a must. Pull them from your couches or invest in outdoor pillows that can be used repeatedly. A large throw is also essential to protect from moist ground and grass stains. Bring your favorite tunes with one of the many available portable speakers or unplug and enjoy the sounds of nature. Cut flowers add a wow factor.

Gear: You don’t have to own a picnic basket to have a picnic. But if you do bring a basket, make sure to have some way to chill your perishables and drinks. Reusable silverware, plastic wine or drink cups, and plates often come with a picnic basket set, but can also be purchased separately. Keeping it elegant, but easy (and cool) is the key!

Accompaniments: A cheese plate with fruit is the perfect start to your picnic fare. As with the cheese, your drink selections should coordinate with the main dish. For salads, pair accoutrements with the dressing in mind. A lemony herb vinaigrette dressing goes well with smooth cheeses and tart beverages such as lemonade, prosecco, or sauvignon blanc. Enjoy your perfect picnic!

this unexpected love affair, fashion and interiors are more than just a simple pairing—they are rooted in culture, creativity, and the human desire for self-expression. As conscious consumers of the 21st century, participating in a retail landscape that is oversaturated and struggling to adapt to the ever-changing demands of the modern customer, our purchasing power should not only respond to a feeling of want but also prioritize items that reflect who we

are and who we aspire to be. This is clearly visible through the representation of fashion and interiors. Although we tend to consider cost-per-wear primarily when it comes to clothing, this same principle applies to furniture and the function it brings to the home. Aesthetics and functionality both play a role in this pairing, painting a picture for the rest of the world of who the wearer is and how they live in their space. ern furniture that feels equally strong and elevates the space where the modern woman thrives. In the same way, someone who prefers an effortless ensemble—like their favorite white T-shirt and comfortable denim jeans—may also look for home pieces that are functional and make their guests feel at ease. Even a handmade rug, one that sparks conversation about where it was found and adds a focal point to a room, mirrors how we search our closets for a sweater tied to a cherished memory. Just as we carefully choose outfits to express ourselves, it’s equally important to ensure that our living spaces are designed with the same intention. More than ever, modern buyers are making purchasing decisions based on personal morals and values, forming a new wave of consumers who seek products that are both high-quality and environmentally or socially conscious, whether for themselves or their homes. The following imagery affirms that living a timeless lifestyle across all aspects of life is possible through the thoughtful styling of sustainable clothing and vintage furniture. As the modern retail landscape continues to evolve, it’s become increasingly vital to make conscious consumer choices—ones that allow us to express our truest selves through both our wardrobes and the places we call home. IT’S POSSIBLE TO SHOW YOUR UNIQUE STYLE WITH NICE CLOTHES WHILE ALSO STRETCHING YOUR DOLLAR One’s wardrobe says a lot about a person and it is important to dress to the occasion whether it be work or play while still expressing yourself. Building a wardrobe can be a costly expense but it’s possible to show your unique style with nice clothes while also stretching your dollar.

A FUN, SUSTAINABLE WAY TO BUILD A HIGH-QUALITY AND STYLISH WARDROBE Second-hand and vintage-style clothes are a fun, sustainable way to build a high-quality and stylish wardrobe without breaking the bank. 3. SOME PIECES ARE SIMPLY BETTER WHEN THEY ARE SECOND-HAND Some pieces are simply better when they are second-hand like worn denim and lived-in boots or leather that’s softened over time. Get creative and add touches to your old favorites with patches, embroidery, and even natural flower colors transferred to fabric. Grab your old t-shirts, family vintage fabrics, or lace, and pull it all together into something new and memorable.

4. IT WAS SO PERFECTLY HER AND ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS My sister, Haley, used an 1800s petticoat and blouse, salvaged Edwardian style Christening gowns and a tablecloth, and other fabrics to create the most amazing vintage-style wedding dress. It was so perfectly her and absolutely gorgeous.

OLD WALL, NEW TRICKS ARTICLE BY PAM REID

HANG UP THE OLD WAY AND TRY A GALLERY WALL HANGING SYSTEM IN YOUR HOME.

One of my happy places is sitting in front of a museum wall gallery. I can admire art for hours, and if I’m with a friend, there’s no telling how long we’ll sit, reflect, and share our individual perspectives. If you’ve admired gallery wall displays in magazines, catalogs, or on social media and would like to create one in your home, it’s much easier than you might think.

MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED:

DESIGNING YOUR GALLERY WALL

CREATIVE ARRANGEMENTS

The first step in creating a gallery wall is planning. Start by selecting a theme or color scheme that complements your space. Themes can be as varied as black-and-white photographs, abstract paintings, or a mix of personal and artistic prints.

• The arrangement of your gallery wall can follow several patterns, depending on your taste: • Linear: Artworks are hung in a straight line at eye level, creating a clean and orderly appearance. • Grid: Perfect for a collection of similarly sized frames, this layout emphasizes structure and uniformity. • Salon Style: This more traditional arrangement involves layering pieces closely together, often extending across the wall. It’s ideal for creating a rich, filled look.

• A gallery wall hanging system, which typically includes mounting rails, cables or rods, and hooks. You can find them pretty much anywhere, online or at your local home improvement store. • A collection of frames and artwork. • A level, measuring tape, and perhaps a laser pointer for precision.

INSTALL ATION TIPS: 01 MEASURE YOUR SPACE: Carefully measure the wall space where you want to install the gallery. Consider the height and width available, keeping in mind furniture and other room features.

02 LAY IT OUT: Arrange your artwork on the floor to finalize your layout. This “dry run” is crucial to get a feel for how the pieces will interact with one another. I like to use painter’s tape to create a visual of what my display will look like on the walls.

03 INSTALL THE RAILS AND HANG YOUR ART: Following the manufacturer’s instructions, mount the rails at the top of your wall. Ensure they are level and securely attached. Attach cables or rods to the rails, then use hooks to hang your frames. The beauty of the system is that you can adjust the height and position easily.

04 BALANCE AND SYMMETRY: Step back to view your layout from different angles. Adjust the spacing and alignment as needed to achieve visual balance.
