Calling it another hospital is like calling Frisco another city.
Introducing the all-new, altogether diff erent Texas Health Frisco. There’s no place in America that’s quite like Frisco. That’s why it deserves a hospital that’s one of a kind. From the moment you arrive on campus, you will see that Texas Health Frisco was built with you in mind. It has everything you would anticipate from an advanced medical center, including a collaboration with world-renowned UT Southwestern. But it also has touches you wouldn’t expect, like boot camps and yoga classes, walking trails and natural building materials like wood and limestone, and a rainwater irrigation system. And that makes us more than a hospital, we’re a destination for your health and well-being.

PROVIDING GUESTS WITH EXQUISITE DINING EXPERIENCES THAT INTERTWINE ALL FIVE HUMAN SENSES IS THE GOAL OF DAVID SEO, SUSHI CHEF AND OWNER OF SHUMI OMAKASE RESTAURANT. He says while shumi in Japanese means “hobby,” the key to his restaurant’s innovation lies in the name of its most popular dish: “omakase,” which translates to, “I leave it up to you.” It essentially puts the decisions and tones of meals in chefs’ hands. “Shumi’s traditional omakase uniquely introduces and Floor to ceiling windows allow for a lot of natural light.

Shrimp Crunch is one of the most popular appetizers.
Aikasa. “When you dine Omakase, the chef presents each piece of sushi and gives guests the full experience behind each one. In the old, traditional way, chefs made sushi on wooden boards in front of customers. Now, we delight in explaining what’s occurring.”
The multimedia wall behind the Sushi Bar gives a lively, modern aesthetic.
Born and raised in Fukushima, Japan, Kunihiko founded and pioneered what’s typically considered the top Japanese restaurant in New Jersey: Shumi. As a native of Seoul, Korea, David is a seasoned culinary veteran with 20-plus years of Japanese cuisine knowledge. Throughout his career, he worked with some of New York’s finest and most revered Japanese restaurants. “People enjoy seeing how we prep their food, hearing about Japanese culture and smelling when we caramelize items so that when they taste their meal, all their senses come together through a memorable pace and ambiance,” David says. Shumi Omakase’s menu includes small plates, appetizers, special rolls, entrees, teriyaki bowls, Shumi fried rice, ramen noodles and sushi and sashimi. The restaurant also provides an expansive open bar, including sake and Japanese beer. “Interacting with guests and personalizing their experiences are our very important goals,” David says. “We truly enjoy our relationships with customers, and love their questions.” His fare is now available at catered events and cafeterias, and he partners with the nearby Marriott. For fall, David spotlights new and special menu items, such as Miyazaki beef, a bluefin tuna bowl, salmon mozzarella, cochin shrimp bowl and salmon sashimi pizza. He adds that their “Chirashi Chef’s Choice” option actually can include tasting up to 35 individual pieces if one keeps asking for more! The simplistic, modern aesthetic of this Shumi restaurant completes noteworthy, impressive culinary encounters. 7161 Bishop Road ShumiOmakase.com October 2019 | Frisco Life

“THIS YEAR, WE’RE TAKING HOLIDAY RESERVATIONS FOR CLIENTS ON A FIRSTA PREMIER, COMMUNITY-WIDE CONCIERGE COMPANY ALL BEGAN IN A RESTAURANT DURING 2012 WHEN THEN-HOSTESS DAWN MCCALL WANTED TO MAKE DINING GUESTS ESPECIALLY DELIGHTED FOR SPECIAL OCCASIONS. “One night, a doctor hoped to celebrate her 50th birthday at the restaurant I worked, and she asked about table decorations because she didn’t have time to do it herself,” Dawn says. “She was so disappointed when the restaurant didn’t have a way to do that, I got wind of it and volunteered to do it for her. That led to more people wanting special decorations for birthdays, anniversaries, graduations and engagements, and to me wanting their tables to look pretty and to help whoever was organizing occasions from getting frantic over all those details. That’s when I realized there could be a market for this individual type of service.” Now, Dawn and her team of personal care managers provide various types of personalized services for clients of her company, Chrysalis Luxury Concierges. She assures they are professional, insured and bonded. “Our aim is to go above and beyond expectations,” Dawn says. Chrysalis services throughout the DFW region include household management, grocery deliveries, private transportation, childcare management details, moving liaisons, luxury item procurement, home staging, pet care, domestic services and personal shopping. “We perform the same concierge services done in New York, California and London,” Dawn adds. Indeed, concierge and client organizational-based businesses have been mushrooming in U.S. towns such as San Francisco and Chicago since the mid-1990s. Dawn’s company also can serve as Airbnb property managers for day-today needs, including setting up chefs and spa services. She says clients can become members to tap into a package of customized services, or they can purchase blocks of time for specific reasons. When it comes to groceries, Dawn says it’s gotten interesting with so many people’s dietary restrictions and allergies, but they’ve devised ways to accommodate detailed, safe approaches for food and beverages. “What I like best about this business are the people we get to meet and work with. We’re never, ever, ever bored, because client needs are hardly ever the same thing twice.” Dawn says she likes to think of her company’s whole client-centric approach as, “Manage life by managing time.” To that end, she offers what she calls “lifestyle management time blocks.”

For many parents,
WEEKDAYS ARE CAREFULLY ORCHESTRATED CHAOS, OFTEN SPENT IN TRANSIT— DROPPING OFF KIDDOS, PICKING UP KIDDOS, GOING TO THIS ACTIVITY AND THAT APPOINTMENT, DASHING TO THE NEAREST STORE FOR A FORGOTTEN ITEM, THEN RACING THROUGH THE REST OF THE DAY’S MALARKEY—JUST TO GET UP THE NEXT DAY AND DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN. In this perennial haze of parenthood, tuning out the outside world comes with ease, and breaking through this impenetrable gaze can be a tough task, even for the savviest of marketers. Business brands that have mastered the art of cutting through the white noise of overstimulation by maintaining interest and generating actual consumption have reached an entirely different level in the game. So how do brands, such as MINT Dentistry, achieve icon status? I had the pleasure of talking to my dear friend, Sabrina Harrison—one-half of the dynamic duo behind the thriving luxury dental service provider—to get the inside scoop. “Success can appear to be a lot more glamorous than it really is,” Sabrina says. She explains that success is simply formulaic for them. “It takes hard work, consistency and a lot of dedication and discipline to keep growing what God has given us.” Several years ago, before I met the Harrisons, I (like most people throughout the Metroplex) started seeing billboards for “sexy teeth.” In a barrage of billboards blitzing our highways, it was evident that MINT Dentistry was booting out the competition. The campaign starring exceptionally good-looking folks was working, but what struck me most was the fact that the people in the campaign were real MINT employees. These “MINT-ees” weren’t trying to be sexy, and at times, they weren’t even smiling. The message, without words, was clear: having sexy teeth equals confidence. That confidence is what attracted the raven-haired beauty to her beau when they first met at a local restaurant through mutual friends 10-plus years ago. Since then, MINT locations popped up everywhere, but MINT isn’t a brand—it’s a lifestyle. A MINT revolution has taken over Texas, and if you happen to miss the latest billboard, you can surely catch the other half of MINT Dentistry, Dr. Field Harrison, on the radio. His youth and passion for healthy teeth permeates the airways, and with that excitement, the old adage of the scary dentist’s office falls by the wayside. Sabrina says MINT Dentistry started off as a dream, just as Dr. Harrison was wrapping up dental school. “He wanted to create an affordable yet luxurious experience for all of his patients.”

Besides world domination, what’s next for the Harrisons? According to Sabrina, “Frisco, family and of course, Friscovania 2019!”
Frisco
“I always enjoy the time I spend in Frisco! The fact that North Dallas is vastly expanding makes it the perfect spot for MINT Dentistry. Our Frisco office is located at 4611 Preston Road, Suite #100,” Sabrina says. “My MINTerior design team helped me create the perfect atmosphere here for our North Dallas clients. Patients with PPO dental insurance get free whitening—and we just launched our MINT Dental Insurance, which offers affordable insurance for everyone.”
Family
“It’s important to keep evolving and learning, and always, always stay humble,” Sabrina says. As a family, she says they love to stay active throughout the week together. “We try to do something every single day that not only makes us bond but gets our heart rates going too! You can almost always find us at a nearby tennis court, playing basketball in our backyard or swimming together!”
Friscovania 2019
“Field and I always pray about everything we are involved with,” Sabrina says. “The charities we partner with hold a very special place in our hearts. We strongly believe we can be advocates of change and are happy to help in any way we can. I believe success without purpose is meaningless.” This year, MINT Dentistry, along with FC Dallas and MLS Works, is making Friscovania free to the public. The Harrisons and their two children, Field Christian and Camilla, also are the honorary hosts of this year’s Halloween extravaganza. “What I love most is the fact that this is a place where families can come together and have family-friendly entertainment,” Sabrina says. “As a mom, I’m always looking for safe and fun activities we can take our kids to, and at Friscovania, I know my babies are guaranteed to have a good time. It’s a win for the whole family!” October 2019 | Frisco Life

Skittles Sangria

Frisco Life | October 2019
ARTICLE KRISTI ANDERSON | PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY OF THE COMMON TABLE
SWEET SIPS AT C O M M O N TA B L E
AMONG THE VARIETY OF “TAP LIST FRISCO” BEER OFFERINGS AT THE COMMON TABLE, INTERESTING, REFRESHING COCKTAILS AND WINE CAN BE FOUND. Common Table’s owner, Roadman Shields, kindly shared the following fun recipe for
SKITTLES SANGRIA INGREDIENTS + 4 ounces orange juice + 4 ounces lemon juice + 4 ounces lime juice + 1 tablespoon simple syrup + 1/4 cup triple sec + 1/2 cup brandy
Skittles Sangria. For a themed party, fall gathering or Halloween, consider serving this Sangria with only autumn-colored Skittles, such as the orange, grape and green apple ones. Note that this summer’s limited edition Skittles, which were inspired by freeze pops, include the flavors of blue raspberry, lemon, grape, orange and strawberry if you desire more colors for drinks. For those feeling brave, there’s also lip-smacking Skittles Sour Wild Berry!
Select type of wine according to taste: + For Red Sangria, add 16 ounces of red wine. + For Passion Fruit Sangria, add 16 ounces of white wine.
INSTRUCTIONS In a large pitcher, mix together juices, syrup, triple sec, brandy and selection of wine. Cover mixture and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or up to 4 hours before serving to let those flavors meld together. “Garnish” by adding a handful of Skittles candy to each wine glass for fun pops of color, along with orange or lime slices on the glass rim, if desired. 6740 Winning Drive, Suite 1005 TheCommonTable.com
