“I don’t know many people who work harder than Gabrielle Dodson. If you want someone in the ring for you to sell your home or find the home of your dreams, reach out to her. You’ll be glad you did!”
Gabrielle C. Dodson
It was eight years ago that we were referred to Gabrielle to help us in our search for our first home. She made us feel like her only clients and was just as interested in us being happy in our home as we were. She went above and beyond just to ensure our home buying experience was a good one and buying our first home would be a memorable experience versus a stressful one. When we realized we had outgrown our starter home and it was time for an upgrade, we called Gabrielle. This time around, as experienced home owners and parents of young ones, we had several “must haves” in a highly-desirable specific location. Our house hunting was a process to say the least, with the “hot” real estate market and the “must haves” we had. Through the whole thing Gabrielle never put pressure on us to make a decision or purchase something we didn’t absolutely love. I am very thankful for that! We are now in our new home and absolutely loving it – we got everything we wanted and more! In the midst of house hunting, Gabrielle sold our starter home for us. Again, she guided us through the whole process and I’m proud to say we listed and closed on the home in under a month to the first people who looked at it. We couldn’t have been more pleased.

There’s a unique perspective that working in publishing brings. While we certainly don’t want to wish our lives away, we’re always looking toward the future. Whether it’s planning our next issue or developing story ideas for the next year, we’re often already fast-forwarded to future months before the current month has even begun. The fast-paced lifestyle this industry calls for can often make it difficult to really settle down and absorb what’s going on around us and, before we know it, the year is over and it’s time to move forward again. So this December, with the holiday season upon us, we hope you take the time to

Creating Beautiful Smiles
“I have had the opportunity to travel abroad to many different and amazing countries for modeling, been featured in countless magazines and advertisements, walked across the stage at Miss USA. Now I’m enjoying my passion of creating beauty daily at my salon in downtown Franklin. My smile, whether meeting a new client or posing for a picture, is always noticed and commented upon. Each and every time I’m asked, I recommend Dr. Kemp!”

After completing her role within the Miss USA pageant, Kristen continues to model. She also has become one of the industry’s most successful hair and makeup artists. In 2013 Kristen took charge of a small team that worked backstage doing hair and makeup at Paris Fashion Week. In addition to helping shape the designer’s vision and leading the team toward that goal, Kristen accepted the coveted role of modeling the finale dress to close the show, one of her long held dreams.

MARKETING HOMES DURING BUSY HOLIDAYS GABRIELLE DODSON, OF KELLER WILLIAMS REALTY, PROVIDES POINTERS
HAVING LIVED IN BRENTWOOD FOR OVER 20 YEARS, GABRIELLE DODSON IS VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE REAL ESTATE MARKET HERE, AND HAS WATCHED THE AREA EVOLVE OVER THE YEARS. Gabrielle sat down with Brentwood Lifestyle to discuss her experience as a luxury real estate agent and to offer tips when it comes to marketing your home to sell. + The conditions and prices of homes are the two most important factors in selling a home during any season. Though houses may get more showing activity in the spring or summer months, this does not mean it is the best time to sell your home. Potential buyers often begin to look at homes early in the year even though they may be a year or more away from the purchase of a home. + People are relocating to the greater Nashville area at a consistent rate. Brentwood and surrounding neighborhoods reflect a fairly transient region, and many relocating individuals will make a mid-school year move during fall or winter.
ARTICLE JULIE BROWN PATTON 20
Brentwood Lifestyle | December 2019
+ Having less inventory in the fall and winter months can benefit the seller. The buyer pool at the end of the year tends to be more motivated. Because there is less inventory, and thus fewer buyer options—buyers may be more willing to pay a little more during year-end or winter months. + Always consult with an agent before making changes to a home that will be sold in the near future. A professional agent that knows the market and will best guide sellers on where to invest dollars with the greatest return on their investments. Kichens and master bathrooms are generally the best place to invest. + A knowledgeable agent will consult with a client about home improvements and whether appraisers value these improvements. It is important to know whether the buyer will notice the upgrades and be willing to pay more for the improvements. CONTINUED >

It can be difficult, but sometimes realtors must give clients the news that improvements on their home are great, but may not hold value to potential buyers. + In the end, list your home when it is best for your family’s timeline. Regardless of the season, an experienced agent will guide you through the selling process. Gabrielle offers complimentary consultation sessions for every client to help them best prepare homes for the market. Mobile: 615.519.6130 Office: 615.778.1818 gabrielle@gabrielledodson.com

BRENTWOOD LIGHTING WITH LUMENATE
HOLIDAY LIGHTING DOWN TO A SCIENCE SIX YEARS AGO, LUTHER TANLEY HAD THE IDEA TO START A SERVICE IN THE GREATER BRENTWOOD AREA FOR CHRISTMAS LIGHTING. Though it wasn’t incredibly popular at first, most of the lighting in Brentwood is now done by his creative and continuously growing company, Lumenate. “The more I learned about landscape lighting, the more I realized there really was an art to it and that was the missing component,” Luther says. “A lot of landscapers or electricians can put lighting in the ground, but to do it in a way that created a flair, an ambiance and a mood for the entire home outside was missing. And that’s what we bring to the table: the beautification of outdoor lighting.” 40
Brentwood Lifestyle | December 2019
Luther’s unique and visionary work can be seen throughout the community this time of year. Want to create some magic of your own? Here are a few tips from Luther himself. + Invest in high-quality lights. There is a huge difference between commercial and box store lights. + Store lighting in temperature-controlled environments when not in use. + Roll mini lights into a ball when the season is over. It will make it easier next year! + When possible, get LED lights versus incandescent. They will last longer and be more vibrant. + Safety is the top priority! When in doubt, feel free to give Lumenate a call for some free advice or to do the installation.
“The season is most importantly about family, friends and the birth of our Creator. Keep that in mind when frustration with lights creeps in!” he reminds.

Cavanagh’s breakthrough came three years ago when she met a stylist who was working on Kelsea Ballerini’s Peter Pan music video, and she was asked to make a charming but edgy outfit for the singer. The video of Kelsea wearing Cavanagh’s customized rompers with flowing trains has been viewed more than 52.4 million times on YouTube. Kelsea says they used a parachute and the song’s lyrics as inspiration. “Being in a relationship with someone that is never going to grow up can make someone feel tied down, so the straps used in the designs are to signify that feeling, but the flow of the skirts are symbols of freedom as she is finding out that this isn’t a healthy relationship and walks away.”

From her Music City brainchild setting, Cavanagh, along with a patternmaker and a seamstress, creates prototypes that are then produced in small-batch quantities in the heart of New York City’s fashion district, ensuring the most opulence quality on the market. She fits private clients at her design atelier in Nashville’s historic Cummins Station and also sells online at CavanaghBaker.com, as well as to a limited number of boutiques around the United States. She’s known for using interesting fabric, creating new silhouettes, and for clothes that fit well and are solidly constructed. The Alabama native started at Vanderbilt University and got fashion technical training at the Savannah College of Art and Design, graduating with a fashion degree in 2014. At that time, her all-black senior collection, inspired by Edgar Allen Poe’s The Raven, received many honors upon its debut, including coverage in Women’s Wear Daily and Fashionista. She also worked in Reebok’s athletic design department in Boston before relocating to Nashville. She now designs “for women who appreciate the fine art of dressing,” who typically are 40 to 65 years old. She says it’s how these women put their looks together that sets them apart. “The woman who wears our clothing doesn’t care what celebrities are wearing. She sees her style, knows what she wants, and buys it no matter what the fads are,” she adds. “They’re finding what they like as trendsetters. And they’re travelers, artists, doctors, business professionals and mothers who focus on a lot of charity work.” Nashville residents like to drop by Cavanagh’s eye-catching boutique front to get glimpses of her limited edition, made-to-order garments, which she confides are inspired by individuality and textures. Her new collection offers a ready-to-wear line composed of classic silhouettes and unique, sophisticated fabrics. Luxury, drama and glamour are the visual hallmarks of the designs of Cavanagh Baker. Here, in Brentwood Lifestyle, are showcased some

JIM AND FRANCES REDD HAD THE GOOD FORTUNE OF THEIR DAUGHTER, KIMBERLY REDD, DECORATING THEIR SOUTHERN ANTEBELLUM HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS FOR 13 YEARS NOW. Located in the heart of Brentwood, the house is an entertaining hub. Naomi Judd actually had her wedding reception there. Kim has learned decorating tips over the years. She shares some of those pointers:
“SET THE TABLE WITH SPECIAL CHINA. IT ADDS ELEGANCE TO A TABLE SETTING LIKE NOTHING ELSE.”
+ Dress up Luminara candles by wrapping ribbons around them and adding rhinestones or other gems. + For staircases, wrap artificial garland around the railing. It’s much easier to work with than real garland. Take real greens and other flowers and tuck them into the artificial garland. (No one will know the difference.) + For a dramatic and colorful effect, place bunches of red poinsettia plants together in one part of a room instead of spreading them out.
