WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE ARCHITECTURAL STYLE OR YOUR PERSONAL INTERIOR DESIGN STYLE AND WHY? My current interior design style would be best described as parenthood chic. Between our four kids, we have swings, play mats, legos, blocks, soccer balls, books and shoes all over the house! Not to mention the couch that has lots of pillows and is usually made into a fort of some kind. We embrace it all because we know there are plenty of years ahead that won’t include the craziness that is “raising kids!”

We Understand Commitment You can rely on Edward Jones for one-on-one attention, our quality-focused investment philosophy and straight talk about your financial needs. To learn more, call today.

IF YOU COULD BUILD A NEW HOME TODAY AND MONEY WERE NO OBJECT, WHAT WOULD IT LOOK LIKE? I would want to be near the woods and create a phenomenal living space with a pool, hot tub, fireplaces, and close access to trails for hiking, biking and running with our kids. We love to be outside whenever possible!

ARCHITECTURAL STYLE OR

YOUR PERSONAL INTERIOR DESIGN STYLE AND WHY?

YOUR PERSONAL INTERIOR DESIGN STYLE AND WHY?

My personal favorite architectural building style is country style on the outside and modern on the inside. And most importantly, paid for! My experience for the past 20 years in helping people prepare for and live in retirement has taught me the importance of owning a home prior to retiring.

I am not a student of architecture or interior design. I believe my wife has a good handle on that sort of thing. Also, my step-sister is a local small business owner and is fantastic at interior design. She has helped several realtors around town with staging their listings. I’ll leave it to the professionals.

IF YOU COULD BUILD A NEW HOME TODAY AND MONEY WERE NO OBJECT, WHAT WOULD IT LOOK LIKE?

IF YOU COULD BUILD A NEW HOME TODAY AND MONEY WERE NO OBJECT, WHAT WOULD IT LOOK LIKE?

My dream home would be designed by my lovely wife Wendy. She will most likely live there much longer than me and makes most of those decisions in our household. I have no sense of fashion. As long as I have a private room for studying and a modern and state-of-the-art home recording studio, I will be very content.

I really like the house that we currently have and appreciate the local realtor we used to help us find such a wonderful home. I wouldn’t say I’m a minimalist by any means, but when it comes to owning property, I have found that sometimes bigger homes come with bigger problems.

nuggets of wisdom shared with me during that time have stuck with me through the years that I hope that I have facilitated in my home. The first came from a very wise friend of mine about the importance of creating a home that feels like a safe haven. In a world that can be cruel, let the home feel like a place that builds you back up with love. She told me to make a continual effort to teach with love, correct with love and show my love for them every day. The second thing that has stuck with me throughout the years is advice that came from a stranger. I was told to take the time to enjoy all the small moments with my family and really soak it in instead of getting caught up in all of the daily tasks that can steal our

THE INTERIOR DESIGN OF JILL HALL’S HOME STRIKES A BALANCE BETWEEN SIMPLICITY AND PERSONALITY ARTICLE RILEY COWING | PHOTOGRAPHY JANIE JONES

Lee’s Summit Lifestyle | March 2020

JILL HALL’S HOME IS SIMPLE—PLENTY OF NATURAL LIGHT, DECOR THAT DOES NOT CLUTTER BUT RATHER PROVIDES A POP OF COLOR AND TEXTURE, MODERN LIGHT FIXTURES AND PLANTS HANGING ON THE WALL TO ADD LIFE TO A CORNER OF THE ROOM. This simplicity was intentional. “Life is so busy, and we seem to acquire so much stuff,” Hall says. “For me, the more we can simplify, the better. Our family is busy with four active boys, and my husband and I both work busy, full-time roles, so it helps to have a bright, light home.” When faced with planning her home’s interior design, Hall recalled aesthetics from designers she loved when living in Los Angeles. She describes working with Molly from Brasstacks, a building design firm located in Kansas City, as a perfect fit. CONTINUED >

SIMPLIFYING HOME ORGANIZATION WITH TWO TIPS Having an organized home helps to destress from everyday life, yet it’s not always easy to achieve. To help, here are two simple tips LeAnn uses to maintain an organized home: + The speed clean. LeAnn often purges or organizes one small area around the house per week and rotates around the house all year. This takes her between 10 minutes to one hour depending on the area. She picks a single drawer, shelf, closet or basket and evaluates all items there and sorts them out based on if they are still needed, can be reused, donated or thrown away. + Fun with baskets. “Everything looks tidy thrown in a basket,” LeAnn says. She often removes grocery items (such as granola bars) from their original packaging and places them in baskets. The pantry looks organized, and she can easily glance and see what needs to be restocked.

Locating Hidden Assets in Divorce In a divorce, courts require parties to identify all marital assets and debts. The exact way in which this takes place 2. can vary. However, most courts require parties to disclose their assets and debts in financial statements early in the case. Discovery usually takes place to various degrees in a divorce as well. There 3. could be interrogatories and requests for production propounded related to marital assets and debt. Depositions often take place. The lawyers may also issue subpoenas. However, some parties may, unfortu- 4. nately, decide to hide marital assets in a divorce. They might hide assets with the illicit motive that if the court does not discover them, they will get to retain it. This leads many to wonder how they can find and identify hidden assets that are out there. The facts can vary in every case, but below are some common ways: 1.

Bank records can sometimes identify hidden assets. Bank statements 5. can show money coming in and being paid from various sources that do not add up, including cash deposits and withdrawals. They can also show evidence of hidden bank 6.

accounts where one is transferring or depositing money. Tax returns can be useful in many cases in locating hidden assets. Many of the schedules that are part of the tax returns can identify the existence of assets that were not disclosed. Social media is becoming more prominent in locating hidden assets. Parties may post photos of assets like boats, vacation properties or jewelry. They also might make posts about these hidden assets. Electronic evidence such as email and text message evidence might be revealing. Parties might have emails where they get monthly statements that involve the hidden assets. They also might have electronic evidence on their devices regarding the purchase itself, including purchase agreements, sales information and statements relating to what they still owe on a note. Private investigators can sometimes help to locate hidden assets. They might be able to take photos and videos of properties, vehicles, boats and other hidden assets. Credit card statements can often

be invaluable. Credit cards are sometimes the way they purchase these assets. Their spouse might not even know the credit card exists. When one has credit card debt their spouse does not know about, or other obligations, this can be problematic. When a party has hidden debt their spouse did not know about, this can be upsetting. In the end, parties should be aboveboard and honest about their marital assets and debt. If the family court judge discovers that a party is being dishonest, this can be very damaging to their credibility. It can also result in a court setting aside a completed divorce to deal with the hidden assets. Stange Law Firm, PC limits their practice to family law matters including divorce, child custody, child support, paternity, guardianship, adoption, mediation, collaborative law and other domestic relation matters. Stange Law Firm, PC gives clients 24/7 access to their case through a secured online case tracker found on the website. They also give their clients their cell phone numbers. AND THAT IS CERTAINLY TRUE WITH THE USE OF FLORALS AS THEY ARE BACK IN FULL BLOOM. Decorating with florals is a great way to bring the outside in. Adding simple pops of color with mother nature in mind can add a whimsical and playful touch to any room and creates a feeling of freshness and subtle femininity. We are sharing a few ways that area KC designers are using floral patterns. A. I found this Deer Head in the back of Anthropologie. It called my name as I was just starting a kitchen remodel at the Lake of the Ozarks. I ended up using this piece as the focal point of the entire space! My clients loved it!" -Jenny Manka www.mankainteriors.com B. This playful floral patterned drape was carefully selected to integrate with the rooms colorful palette. -Tran+Thomas Design https://tranthomasdesign.com C. I love brining the outside in whenever possible. I added these psychedelic floral chairs to what was otherwise a masculine dining room for a bit of whimsy!"- Jenny Manka

E.

Plus they tie the room to the beautiful trees outside. --Jennifer Surface, Surface to Surface Design and Construction E. Large scale floral draperies are a great way to pack a punch in a space with the oversized scale and bright colors.- Nest Interiors www.nestkc.com
