where we have been and what we have done, and we try to remember to extend ourselves grace. January is a time to cleanse, to start fresh and not dwell on who we were 12 months ago. So much change can happen in a year, so as we plan our future and commit to resolutions, we also leave some room to change our minds—to grow and be human. Here at Patchogue Lifestyle, we are so proud of the growth in our community through the last year and cannot wait to see what is coming for 2020. As new businesses open, old businesses expand, charities fundraise and we all turn one year older, we will continue to be right there to share your stories and celebrate your milestones. Happy New Year, Patchogue! Thank you for being a part of our story.

Breezy C h i r o p r ac t i c “VISION 2020” “WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF THIS YEAR?” “It’s a new year, new you.” “Live your best life.” “The time is now.” These phrases all reflect our best intentions to improve ourselves physically, mentaly, emotionally or financially; or if your ambitious in all the above! Despite all of our best intentions these aspirations for ourselves often fall flat. Holistic health, we’ve all heard the term but what does that really mean?! It’s a form of healing that considers the whole person -- body, mind, spirit, and emotions -- in the quest for optimal health and wellness. That sounds pretty ideal! According to the holistic medicine philosophy, one can achieve optimal health by gaining proper balance in life. Dr. Brianna embodies this approach to health and wellness in a realistic, practical, and functional way. So, what inspired her to take this path and this approach? As an athlete she experienced a soccer injury that resulted in back pain. She then sought out chiropractic care. Shortly after she saw her body, health and general mindset improve in ways she never thought possible! “I slept better, my immune system started working better, I had more energy, I felt more mental clarity, and a sense of peace and ease I had not felt before.” That was the catalyst that propelled her to go after “this chiropractic thing.” Since then she has been on a mission with a goal and a big heart to change the community’s mindset and quality of life. As the current president of the New York Chiropractic Council Suffolk County Chapter and the Chairperson of the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce “Health and Wellness” committee she is committed to bringing this lifestyle approach and philosophy to our thriving community.
OPTIMAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS
She explained that Chiropractic care was founded on the premise that within each and every one of us, is an intelligence, a life force running through our nerve system (brain and spinal cord) doing the very best it can at every moment to keep us as alive and as healthy as possible; functioning at our optimal. The better the connection we can have between our brain and our body, the better our whole body will function, and the more we will thrive as human beings. 12

LOCAL SPA SHOWS THE HEALING POWER OF SALT THERAPY & SELF CARE.

Patchogue Lifestyle | January 2020
“THE ISLAND SALT AND SPA IS THE INTERSECTION BETWEEN WELLNESS AND BEAUTY,” SAID MICHELLE FLECKEN.
MICHELLE is the owner,
founder and one of the spa’s massage therapists. She started her healing journey with the idea of becoming a nurse, then physical therapist, eventually landing on massage therapy. When asked about her path, she said “I kind of got side tracked, which is often divine intervention. Along came massage therapy.” She reflected. “I truly love helping people.” We sat inside the salt room and spoke for the better part of an hour, discussing the importance of mental and physical wellness, how fortunate we are to live on the south shore of Long Island, her appreciation for millennials taking time for themselves, and the road to opening the business. She is calm, her voice soft, yet her passion for wellness is palpable. By the end we were laughing, crying and hugging. It was a particularly special interview and something tells me she treats every client this way- like family. She’s a firm believer that we should be treating ourselves better, that we deserve to release ourselves from stress, anxiety and pain. This is the message that sets the Island Salt and Spa apart from a typical spa experience. Here, #selfcare is more than just a hashtag and on-trend movement. MICHELLE and her staff really believe that taking time out of your day, week, or month to forget about the stresses of life can give you the tools to manage your stress better. And in many ways she’s right; studies show that low-stress leads to less illness and a longer lifespan. Upon entering, you are immediately welcomed by friendly faces. The sun beams in the reception area like a warm hug. After checking in, you’re either led to a massage room, esthitician’s room, or the salt room. If your service is a massage, look up! The stunning tin ceilings are original to the building. Each massage therapist is certified and trained to tailor the massage CONTINUED >

THE GYM ON THE EAST SIDE OF MAIN STREET HAS A NEW OWNER AND A NEW LOOK. NPV Fitness & Spa has been carefully renovated by John and Eileen Busiello. Plenty of big changes have ensued including a new cardio center, exciting classes, an updated and sparkling spa and even an elevator. There’s 3 floors of brand new equipment and classes, and if it’s your first time you can sign up for a complimentary, one-on-one, training session to help tailor your workout to you.

Patchogue Lifestyle | January 2020
SPA Elieen, an esthetician of nearly 20 years, has invested her wealth of knowledge in the new space. She’s upgraded all the machines and techniques giving clients the best possible technology available. Every esthetician has been trained by a doctor or nurse on each machine to ensure the highest level of experience. The spa specializes in skin tightening, fat freezing, non surgical facelift (with very little downtime), nutrition counseling, botox and fillers and classic spa treatments like waxing and facials. Elieen was enthusiastic about the free consultations for new clients. “Your best facial is your customized facial. When you come in, my estheticians will give you essentially a prescription” Eileen said. “They will analyze your skin and go over everything that they observe and create a program with either treatments or products that’s perfect for you”. The products are an important element to maintaining the work that Eileen and her team do. She has an organic line, a clinical line, and a medical grade line so you can walk out feeling protected from the sun and continue the effects of the treatments into your nightly routine. CONTINUED >

CLASSES The new classes are an exciting addition to the gym. The NPV team has carefully added group work outs such as vargas boxing, kickboxing, cycling, supple and yoga among others. These new classes are perfect for those who are motivated by the energy in the room. There’s something for everyone! Want contact? Try vargas-style boxing. And for those who enjoy the rush but don’t want contact, there’s NPV kickboxing. The individual bags mean that you can really perfect your technique during class without alternating with a partner.
CLASSES (CONTINUED) In addition to the classic gym classes, NPV is proud to introduce a new area full of “rogue weights”, or free weights and an entirely overhauled Hybrid HIIT system. The high intensity interval training has been a trending method but NPV adds their twist, incorporating the “CrossFit” style and conducting each class differently to avoid burnout. Every instructor is trained to work around different injuries and make sure that you’re staying safe as you work out.

CARDIO John was excited to show off the new cardio and circuit training centers on the first floor. The brand new treadmills mean that there’s no waiting for a machine! You can warm up before you move over to the circuit training area where machines are ready to help build muscle and strength. And because these areas take up much of the first floor, there’s plenty of room so you can really concentrate on your workout.
