Buy vs. Rent After considering commercial space or an outbuilding on his property, Heatly discovered Garage Condos and was immediately impressed. He not only liked the idea of building equity, which a rental wouldn't provide, but found that purchasing a luxury work and storage space was a recent trend in bigger cities that hadn't been tapped into locally, until now. NO CAR NEEDED OKC'S AUTOMOBILE ALLEY IS A SPORTY DESTINATION
OKLAHOMA CITY’S UNIQUE NEIGHBORHOOD DISTRICTS COME WITH THEIR OWN STORIES, AND AUTOMOBILE ALLEY IS NO EXCEPTION. In the 1920s, Automobile Alley along Broadway Ave in downtown Oklahoma City was the hot spot for cars. Home to more than 50 auto dealers, the streets were lined with vehicles, auto dealers and shiny new rides. The district began to decline in the 1970s and 1980s, but thanks to the vision of key local developers, the area is now a restored, mixed-use destinaton of local retail, restaurant, bars and more. The district is enjoying an economic resurgence as an urban, mixed-use community. So, how should you enjoy a day in Automobile Alley? We’ve got some tips! GET FUNKY AT MIX-TAPE Mix-Tape at Factory Obscura, located in the Womb Gallery at 25 NW 9th St., is an immersive experience that incorporates the intentional use of music, ambient sounds, vibrations, textures, and more to offer visitors a fully immersive, meaningful experience. The Womb Gallery is now home to the Mix-Tape experience, where visitors are greeted with a window display called “Boombox” before wandering the nooks and crannies of the Mix-Tape installation. HEART DISEASE IS THE LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH IN THE UNITED STATES. The good news? Heart disease can often be prevented when people make healthy choices and manage their health conditions. Heart-healthy cooking doesn’t have to be bland either. Here’s a recipe for a romantic dinner from the American Heart Association.
lemon-garlic salmon foil pack I n g r e d i e n ts + 1 lb new potatoes (halved, thinly sliced) + 2 teaspoons garlic + 1 lb green beans + 2 Tbsp canola oil + 1/4 teaspoon salt + 1/4 teaspoon pepper + 4 skinless salmon fillets + 2 lemons, sliced into wheels Lemon-garlic salmon pack
D i r e ct i o n s Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Make 4 sheets of aluminum foil about 30 inches long. Fold the foil in half widthwise. 01 Cut potato into half lengthwise. Thinly cut each half into ⅛-inch slices and place into a heatproof container. Stir in the minced garlic, cover, and cook the potatoes in the microwave until halfway tender, around 90 seconds to 3 minutes. Transfer mixture to a bowl, along with green beans, oil, salt, and pepper. Mix to combine. 02 Divide potato mixture into 4 equal portions into the center of each foil square. Top each with salmon fillet. Sprinkle garlic powder and top with 2 lemon wheels. 03 Securely seal the top and sides of each foil packet and place onto a large baking sheet. Cook until salmon is cooked, about 20 minutes.

DR. LORI HANSEN AS A WORLD-CLASS FACIAL PLASTIC SURGEON, DR. HANSEN ALSO FIGHTS FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIMS
WHILE OKLAHOMA AND BEYOND KNOW DR. LORI HANSEN, M.D., AS AN ACCOMPLISHED FACIAL PLASTIC SURGEON, MANY PEOPLE MAY NOT KNOW OF HER PASSION TO HELP VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. A University of Oklahoma medical school graduate, Dr. Hansen has provided aesthetic and surgical treatments for the face and neck of clients throughout Oklahoma and the United States. She went on to complete her residency at both the University of Alabama and the University of Oklahoma Medical Center. She also completed a fellowship in facial plastic surgery in Beverly Hills under the world-famous facial plastic surgeon Frank Kramer, M.D. A former Miss Oklahoma USA, Dr. Hansen is also helping victims through her work with domestic violence organizations. She is involved in outreach efforts and initiatives for women’s issues in general, but especially those that involve domestic violence. “Years ago, my husband wanted to do overseas missions. I did not, because no one in a Third World country needs what I do best,” said Hansen. “So as we thought about it, we brainstormed who does need reversing appearance of aging and stress reversing wrinkles scars and broken bones in the face. The answer was obvious. Victims of domestic violence.” She brought this idea to the American Academy of Facial Plastic ARTICLE HEIDE BRANDES | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED 24

In 2019, Break the Silence Foundation (BTSF), a nonprofit organization that assists domestic abuse survivors through the journey of recovery, and Face to Face, joined forces to help heal domestic violence survivors’ external and internal selves, empowering them to lead successful, happy lives, free from toxic violence and abuse. “Women’s issues are the vast majority of what I deal with today and have done so for 30+ years,” Dr. Hansen said. “I care about self issue and self-esteem of both sexes, but it seems that victims of domestic violence suffer the most from that issue.” Dr. Hansen was honored with the National Community Service Award for Face to Face in 1995. She also earned the 1998 Spirit of Women Award and in 1999, was selected by Vanity Fair as one of America’s 200 most-influential women.

Roasted at Eote in Oklahoma City, Scars and Stripes isn’t your average coffee merchant. Started by Chad Watts and Col. Brad Dean of Oklahoma, the company is a way to reward and inspire military veterans. The all-veteran employees aren’t just salesmen. They are team members, squad leaders and inspirational coworkers. Watts, the passion behind Scars and Stripes, knows a thing or two about giving back. After reaffirming his Christian Faith,

he started a nonprofit in Oklahoma City to help kids get involved in mountain biking. He and Dean also wanted to start their own business, but the idea of having employees didn’t excite them. Watts wasn’t even a coffee drinker until 2017, but after hearing

about a veteran-owned coffee-business, he had an idea. “Right after I discovered coffee, I went snow skiing and saw a veteran-owned coffee company,” Watts said. “They hire veterans and I love veterans. I’m a civilian, but I work at the Oklahoma City VA and so I’m around them and I admire them.” The two men threw around the idea of starting a coffee franchise and even looked into multi-level marketing. Watts wanted a company that strengthened the bond of brotherhood among veterans.
