TR Y A NE W WORKOU T IN 2020 ADULT HIP HOP
“THE CLASS FEELS LIKE A DANCE PARTY RATHER THAN A WORKOUT!” is what people are saying after trying out the high energy fitness class- Adult Hip-Hop. These classes are available at most full service gyms and make moving your body and burning calories fun thanks to lively hip hop music and easy dance moves. “Our adult hip-hop class is designed to challenge and entertain dancers of all experience levels and ages! We provide a class that promotes body strength, core conditioning, flexibility and stamina, all while learning fun choreography in an engaging classroom experience,” Rise Dance Studio fitness instructor Andrew Cassel says. So do you need dance training to take this class? Andrew says no previous dance experience is required. “We have a variety of adults that participate from beginners that have never danced before, to adults that have danced competitively in their past. We are able to modify choreography for each level, to adapt to each students needs,” Andrew tells us. Hip-hop classes infuse the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. It would be helpful to know some basic dance terminology before taking a class. Here are some typical moves you might do: + Popping: Quickly contracting and relaxing your muscles, causing a jerk in your body. + Step Touch: Feet are together. Move one leg to the side then bring it back to center. + Slide: Take a step to the side with one leg. Drag the other leg over. CONTINUED >

TRY A NE W WORKOU T IN 2020 (CONTINUED)
“In general, hip hop is a high energy style, with movement that works out and strengthens every part of the body. The underlying beat, bounce, and groove is a great way to keep the heart rate up, and is sure to make you break a sweat. We love that when you are in this class, it doesn’t feel like an every day session at the gym. The fun we have, really disguises the “workout,” Andrew says. If you are looking for a highly energetic full body cardio class, try a hip-hop class. Rise Dance Studio offers a variety of classes, visit www.risedanceco.com for more info. Also, you can check with your local gym to see if they carry this class.

1
The Warm Up: Get your legs moving and pop your shoul-
ders back during this low key warm up. Typical moves include head and shoulder rolls, low intensity squats, and basic stretching. You can also count on some light cardio to get the heart rate moving.
2
The Work Out: This is where the dance moves come in.
“Each class, we teach a combination that is around a minute long. Dancers work up to memorizing and executing the choreography,” Andrew tells us.
3
Keep your hips moving from side to side and do some side steps with a head nod. Lots of movements during the workout utilize all muscle groups. Classes often move to the ground for push-ups and crunches. And legs are always incorporated – lunges and deep squats.
4
The Cool Down: A typical class ends with some stretching
and focused breathing to bring the heart rate down.

WORLD-CLASS PEDIATRIC CARE

CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL COLORADO IS ONE OF THE BEST. CHC continues to make the honor roll of one of the top pediatric hospitals in the country by many notable organizations, including U.S. News & World Report. The hospital’s advanced baby care, brain and behavior department, and cancer treatment facilities set this children’s hospital apart from the rest. “Children's Hospital Colorado sees more, treats more and heals more kids than any hospital in our seven-state region. Kids aren’t just mini adults. We know how different they are, and that changes everything about how we treat them, from their growing bodies to their developing minds. Our team is experienced and forward-thinking when it comes to the latest methods for diagnosis and treatment. This translates into less invasive treatment, less time, and less stress on families and patients. We are doing everything we can to help kids get healthy and home faster than at any other hospital,” a Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation spokesperson tells us. CHC is a nonprofit that is supported by the generosity of donors. The hospital employs more than 3,000 pediatric specialists and has 19 patient care facilities in

“Children’s Hospital Colorado sees more, treats more and heals more kids than any hospital in our seven-state region.”
Support from donors and the community helps the hospital sustain their mission to provide top-notch care to their patients. As the only nonprofit pediatric hospital in a region that spans seven states, Children’s Colorado provides world-class care for more than 230,000 children every year. “The hospital is there for every child and family who needs our care, thanks to support from donors. We don’t mean to be cliché, but is there really any better time for working on yourself than when Jan. 1 rolls around—whether you’re focused on your physical health or your mental health? It sure seems like the perfect time, but there will also be days when you’re just not quite feeling it. The holidays are over, the days are shorter and, let’s face it, there’s not really a ton to look forward to until spring sprouts.
