As our summer officially ends this month on Monday, Sept. 23, we move into the beauty that is Autumn in Idaho. As Stanley Horowitz once said, "Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting and autumn a mosaic of them all." While we still need to wait until October to enjoy the peak of fall colors, don’t give up on summer yet; there is still time to discover some of Idaho’s great lakes this month, and Roger Phillips highlights five of them in this issue. As our nights begin to cool off and we get ready to swap out our summer shorts for something a bit more cozy, we explore some great fashion trends and ideas to kick off the fall season in style. Enjoy the best of what our beautiful state provides, and from our hearts to yours, we wish you the very best this September.

FALL IS UPON US WITH NEW FASHION TRENDS TO FOLLOW
HAIR AND MAKEUP BY KEANNA KEIM
ARTICLE SHELLY WEST | PHOTOGRAPHY JONNI ARMANI
Bougie Girl
The days are getting shorter, and the nights are growing colder, but the fashion this season is hot. Keep on the lookout for the revival of favorite silhouettes borrowed from the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s, which are in abundance this season.
LOCAL BOUTIQUE I. BENI, WHICH MEANS "THE GOODS" IN ITALIAN, IS A ONE-STOP-SHOP FOR SOURCING A BOUNTY OF ON-TREND FASHIONS FOR FALL. Store owner Cortney Green gives some fresh fall fashion tips. WHAT IS THE CONCEPT OF YOUR STORE? I've got home decor and home goods; gifts for babies, men and teachers; as well as bath, body and beauty products. There's women's clothing all throughout the store, as well as accessories and handbags. The best part about the boutique is that you're going to find clothing here that not everybody in town is wearing. I carry limited quantities and have new deliveries almost every single day, so that creates a sense of urgency because the item may not be there on next visit. HOW DO YOU SEE FALL FASHION TRENDS? I'm always so excited about the change of seasons. I think the fall fashion is my favorite season, though, because there's always such a wide variety, and this fall is going to be really exciting with all of my favorite trends, actually. We're going to see lots of moody florals and bougie girl, which I love. I love the big bows. I love the pleated skirts. I love the blouses. So, I was over the moon, excited. Leopard print is staying around; it's actually leading the forefront. Of course, with fall we get all of the amazing metallics and a splash of neon here and there and combat or utility looks. Fall is a time to start layering up and down with all of the accessories that go along.

Meridian Lifestyle | September 2019
THERE IS A DELICATE BALANCE BETWEEN "FORMAL YET INVITING" AND "GRAND BUT WELCOMING" THAT IS AT THE HEART OF OLD-WORLD STYLE. European inspiration from many different countries makes it tastefully eclectic and very personal. The feeling evoked by living in Europe and visiting authentic dwellings on their travels was the inspiration for builders, designers and homeowners Clive and Monica Payne-Culpan. “The design is timeless, and that is the charm of this home,” Clive says. The estate has evolved throughout 10 years, with each element carefully planned and executed down to the last shrub and tree. The design for the home quickly formalized once the perfect lot was selected. “We were looking for a rectangular-shaped lot on the corner of a main street in Eagle," Clive says. "Surprisingly, we found the perfect property right away, and I sketched out the design of the house that very day.” Clive says that the design for this home was always in the back of his mind. He knew they wanted a traditional European entry leading to a central two-story main house with single story elements migrating away from the central core. Though the home CONTINUED >

is very spacious, the style needed to have separation of the elements. A distinct, yet separate entry being the central and most formal area, with separate living areas and sleeping quarters joined by large hallways, maintains the traditional European theme throughout the floorplan. Scale is crucial; the size of the rooms, doors and windows must stay true to the style. “For example, it would have been easy to fall into the trap of using larger windows in the back of the house to maximize the view, but smaller windows are typical of European design, and we could not sacrifice the continuity of the design flow through both the interior and exterior of the home,” Clive says. Though the home is quite large, the spaces feel intimate. Each space has its own beauty and charm. Using rustic and natural materials was the key to marinating the authentic old-world style. “We wanted endearing and enduring materials in the space,” Clive explains, “including exposed and imperfect beams, natural stone and oak. Monica is great at finding antique fixtures and lighting, as well as reclaimed materials we have used throughout the property.” Detailed craftsmanship is another element of the home. Craftsmen painstakingly worked to make their work look hundreds of years old. The stonemasons were encouraged to work as if they were CONTINUED >

thing I never really expected because it truly opened so many doors. WHAT ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT? Mentoring and making a difference. Without a doubt, being an influence in people’s lives is something that brings me joy. I can share my truth, good and bad, and be an advocate and source of information and trust for people around me. I am passionate about sharing my real-life experiences and then creating open dialogue with those I meet in real life and online so they don’t feel like they are alone. Whether that be through coaching, sharing my experience with gestational diabetes and PCOS, or talking openly about my size. I want people to know who I am and to be a source of empowerment for them.
