IPATED ARRIVAL OF THE YEAR. It’s the unofficial first look at this season’s fashion trends and predictions for the upcoming year. It’s the issue fashionistas can’t wait to get their hands on. So it is with much excitement that we present you with our own fashion issue. For our annual fall fashion photo shoot, we went to Atlanta fashion favorite Jeffrey to showcase all the season’s hottest looks straight from the runways. Thank You to Don Purcell, general manager, for his insight and knowledge. And with Jeffrey Cares right around the corner, we took time to again bring awareness to this epic annual event that now marks its 27th year of fundraising. Whether or not you consider yourself a fashionista, your personal style is a reflection of your personality, lifestyle and taste. And we’re always looking for ways to put our best foot forward (more shoe, less sneaker) this fall.

A New Approach to Pet Care in Midtown THRIVE'S FOCUS ON PREVENTATIVE CARE
FOUNDED IN 2014 BY DR. JASEN TRAUTWEIN, THRIVE HAS BEEN RAPIDLY OPENING VETERINARY CARE CENTERS WITH A FOCUS ON REDUCING THE COST OF PET CARE. The company, based in Austin, has also partnered with Petco to operate in-store vet care in addition to their stand-alone locations. THRIVE has developed a model that uses technology and economies of scale to pass on cost reductions to pet owners. Benjamin Trotter, VP of marketing for THRIVE says, “We focus on preventive pet care. If pet owners can easily schedule routine, affordable veterinary exams, we can detect and treat pets from various illnesses that are 100% preventable.” Routine exams, vaccines, illness and nonemergency surgeries are the core aspects of THRIVE’s approach. Coupled with technology, the visits are designed with efficiency for pet owners in mind. They offer a $25 nose-to-tail exam and a membership program with low monthly rates that includes unlimited pet exams and discounts on all services. Dr. Jyothi Alagappan is one the veterinarians at the Midtown location, which opened in late 2018 at Northside and 17th Street.

"Preventative pet care involves a well-rounded approach that includes practices that can be implemented by owners at home and services by a veterinarian. The main goal is to help prevent disease, maintain a good quality of life and to increase the life span of a pet." —Dr. Jyothi Alagappan Dr. Alagappan grew up in Long Island, New Dr. Alagappan
York. She studied at Emory University then received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from St. George’s University in Grenada, West Indies. She completed her clinical year at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Alagappan highly recommends routine visits to the vet to determine how a pet is progressing in their life. On THRIVE’s approach to pet care, she says. “The cost of prevention is often much cheaper than treating a disease or a problem once it has become more complicated. Additionally, early diagnosis and treatment of developing problems or diseases can increase the likelihood of successful outcomes. Overall, preventative care reduces the likelihood of disease, and it saves the pet owner time and money.” THRIVE has a corporate mission of maintaining a work-life harmony with its employees. Dr. Alagappan says, “There are a few things I try to do to manage my work-life balance—prioritizing all the things I need to do, play to my strengths, take breaks, set goals, always have personal time and a vacation to look forward to!” In her free time, she enjoys playing tennis, going to SoulCycle, seeing friends, trying new restaurants, traveling, spending time with her goldendoodle, Luna (@Luna_Doodle_Atl on Instagram), rooting for the NY Yankees, and staying involved with the Emory and St. George’s University communities. The 2019 event was held at Phipps Plaza and benefited Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta, the Atlanta AIDS Fund (AAF) and the Medical University of South Carolina.
