Natural Healing for Lifelong Health What Dr. Jenning’s Patients are saying: I CAN WALK WITHOUT PAIN AGAIN

“After not being able to walk without pain and seeing two different physical therapists I was losing hope. I had been diagnosed with plantar fasciitis but was getting no relief! Mary discovered that the pain was not coming from one area and treated me with acupuncture. She was so comforting during the entire process and after only a few sessions I saw results! She truly has helped heal me and I would recommend her to anyone going thru pain or any ailment!” Colette - Cary, NC

STUNNING WEST CARY HOME OFFERS IT ALL

COLLEEN BLONDELL, OWNER OF BLONDELL PROPERTIES, IS A LEADING REAL ESTATE PROFESSIONAL WITH A TEAM OF AGENTS WHOSE BOUTIQUE REAL ESTATE BUSINESS THRIVES PRIMARILY BY REFERRALS FROM FORMER CLIENTS, BUSINESS ASSOCIATES AND FRIENDS. And current clients Kim and Doug Dandurand, who have known Colleen for more than 25 years, are no exception. The Dandurands’ house, set in a prestigious west Cary neighborhood, boasts lush landscaping in a natural environment ideal for riding bikes, playing on playgrounds or lounging by the pool. The stately 5,300-square-foot home features six bedrooms and five full bathrooms. 14

Cary Lifestyle | October 2019

This home offers a first-floor bedroom/office, a second-floor exercise room, a third-floor oversized bonus room and a theater area. Outside features include a screened-in porch overlooking the saltwater infinity pool. “When I saw that pool, I said, ‘I want this house,’” Kim says with a laugh. “The house was pretty modern, so we updated the kitchen to make it more rustic, added custom built-ins, a large wood beam and a stacked stone fireplace to the family room, along with a custom mantle from a tree my father cut down years ago.” These features, along with its close proximity to the neighborhood lake and Tobacco Trail, help it stand out from similar homes in this price range. Colleen guides her clients throughout the sale and listing process and believes proper staging is key prior to listing. “It’s a competitive buyer’s market. You want your home to stand out, the features to be noticed and remembered, and for the buyer to envision it as their own,” Colleen says. Bonnie Delmar staged the Dandurands’ home using three main strategies: decluttering, depersonalizing and neutralizing with paint—making the home warm and welcoming to potential buyers. Historians believe the Black Forest Gateau dates back to the late 16th century in Germany.

ANNELORE’S GERMAN BAKERY BRINGS THE BEST OF OLD-WORLD EUROPEAN BAKING TO THE HEART OF DOWNTOWN CARY

Made to Crave

ARTICLE CAROLINE BARNHILL

PHOTOGRAPHY CATHERINE NGUYEN

IT’S BEEN SPOOFED ON SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE. The New York Times has published its own “viewers guide” to help us poor Yanks understand the difference between pudding (dessert) and custard (pudding) or biscuits (cookies) and scones (biscuits). So why are Americans binge-watching The Great British Baking Show? And where in the world can we get our own Black Forest Gateau (cake), after Mary Berry made us feel like we need one in our lives? Maybe it’s because European desserts and celebratory cakes are steeped in tradition. And they’re happy to share it with you—at least that’s what happens when customers walk into Cary-based Annelore’s German Bakery. 22

Cary Lifestyle | October 2019

Husband and wife owners Norbert and Annelore Gstattenbauer float between their bakery’s on-site kitchen, designed to be left open so guests can see and smell the baking process, and the front of the store where they chat with patrons and answer questions about the bakery’s unique breads, pastries and cakes. Curious

about

the

Prinzregententore?

Norbert will be glad to tell you more. “It’s a classic Bavarian torte with seven layers of sponge cake, interlaid with chocolate buttercream, brushed with a thin layer of apricot preserves and then enrobed with chocolate ganache,” Norbert explains. “The torte was named for Prince Regent Luitpold, who became prince regent in Bavaria in 1886. It originally had eight layers to represent the eight regions of Bavaria, but when Pfalz was lost after WWII, the torte also lost a layer.” Most of the offerings at Annelore’s German Bakery, from the customer-favorite Bee Sting Cake to the Almond Brandy Nut Slings, cannot be found elsewhere in the area.

CHEF JOHN FORD AND HIS WIFE, NATASHA, KNEW THEY WERE MEANT FOR EACH OTHER WHEN THEY COULD NOT STOP TALKING ABOUT THEIR LOVE OF FOOD ON THEIR FIRST DATE. Their catering company, Fords Fluent N’ Food, has served the wedding and event industry for years, but the duo recently opened Chandelier, a luxurious venue in the heart of Cary where food and elegance converge. “We knew we wanted to open up a space a couple of months into our catering business,” Natasha says. “This ensures that the guests can have fresh and delicious food under our own roof.” John earned his degree in International Culinary Arts at the Art Institute of Raleigh-Durham in 2008. After beginning his restaurant career as a dishwasher, John later worked as a sous chef for Pop’s Trattoria in Durham and Print Works Bistro in Greensboro. Then, as executive chef at Cameron Bar and Grill in Raleigh, John became known locally for his Saturday night farm-to-table specials. He visited the farmers market on Saturday mornings to create onenight-only, first-come, first-served entrées featuring locally sourced foods. He also participated in the 2016 James Beard Blended Burger Project. His Hoisin Mushroom Burger, which blended chopped chuck, short rib and cremini mushrooms, was topped with grilled red onion, hoisin smoked mushrooms, sliced tomatoes, mixed greens and smoked tomato aioli on a toasted garlic bun. John’s menu continues to feature fresh, high-quality, local products. He is classically trained and has extensive culinary skills in everything from Italian and French to Asian and American cooking styles. As creative director, Natasha’s role is to ensure that each plate is presented well visually. She also coordinates and plans events that put customer service first. Natasha earned a degree in media and public relations from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has more than a decade of restaurant experience and used her marketing skills for corporations and nonprofits for multiple years. Her vision is behind every marketing platform and advertising material for both companies. ”We thrive off each other and help each other if the other is in need,” Natasha says. “Many people joke we are telepathic—we know when the other is in need of help or guidance.” Together, they believe “a dash of Southern hospitality mixed with beauty and elegance sprinkled with excellent food is the “recipe for greatness.” When clients select Chandelier as their event venue, they automatically snag catering by Fords Fluent N’ Food, which offers a wide variety of menu selections. Included in the venue rental cost are tables and chairs, white china, gold chargers, silverware, water goblets, bridal and groom suites with snacks and Champagne and more. Chandelier offers indoor and outdoor ceremony sites, an outdoor patio with market lights, as well as a space for a cocktail reception. “Chandelier is the true epitome of hopes and dreams,” Natasha says. “Not only do we have a gorgeous space, but the love and positive vibes Chandelier exuberates is priceless.” Visit Chandelier for your next wedding, corporate event, birthday, anniversary, gradua-
