Home Sweet Home SCOTTSDALE IS WHERE I LIVE, WORK AND PLAY. My husband and I are raising our 4 boys right here in Scottsdale, Arizona. Who would've thought that Scottsdale would become what it is today? Certainly not me. As many of you know my family extends back 6 generations here in Arizona, now 7 if you include my children. Allow me to be nostalgic for a moment….I grew up in Arcadia (the Scottsdale side). My childhood consisted of playing in our large irrigated front yard with neighborhood kids, jumping on our trampoline and night swimming on long warm summer nights, while hanging out in our 1950’s Bomb Shelter, (our official playroom) out back - we called it “The Dungeon”. We would ride bikes and roller skate through the streets

Old Town Scottsdale and onto the greenbelt which stretches across many beautifully shaded parks. It’s funny how things change…. the canal is now referred to as “The Waterfront." My Own mother as a teenager used to water ski in the canals that run through the area, being pulled by friends driving cars along the side… I remember riding horseback through Old Town Scottsdale in the Parada Del Sol (the oldest parade in Scottsdale). Back then, Old Town Scottsdale was nothing

mix of endless restaurants, hotspots, high rise condos and new businesses which is considered to be prime real estate, especially on “the Waterfront.” Let's talk about North Scottsdale too - virtually non-existent back then (Shea Blvd was pretty much the end of civilization in Scottsdale and is now considered Central Scottsdale). There was not much more than a handful of undeveloped and open desert areas where teenageers would throw boondock parties and ride horses, dirt bikes and go quail hunting. As you flip through the pages in our March “Home” issue of Scottsdale Lifestyle we hope it takes you to the place you call home. Be grateful, be kind and live well,

This magnificent event attracts the Valley’s most generous and supportive community leaders who understand that philanthropy is at the center of innovation, advanced technology and vital programs and services in healthcare today. Funds raised this year will expand HonorHealth’s impact to reach more patients and provide more hope by benefiting patient services, treatment, research and innovation for cancer, cardiovascular disease and stroke.

Created by Tim Harris and his husband, Todd, this unique and longstanding antique store showcases hundreds of hand-selected items that allow customers to creatively mix and match to cultivate the look and feel they hope to achieve in their homes. Harris explains the ambiance at Relics is an eclectic array of items that encompass both modern and vintage design, which can be expertly intertwined to create fascinating vignettes. “We need the functionality and comfort of new furnishings to meet the needs of the way we live in our homes today, but it’s important to round out interiors with the Client photos
character, authenticity and quality of craftsmanship that only vintage and antique art and furnishings can bring.” At Relics, Harris and his team understand that shoppers seek a cleaner, comfortable and lighter look, especially in recently trending downsized interiors. The rush to seek items that translate to the scale and style of smaller spaces is easy to realize at Relics. Collections of Spanish pottery are particularly useful, Harris explains, because various regions of Spain have extremely distinctive styling detail and collections of like types of pottery that can keep a space less stodgy. “Our new shipment from Spain includes a fabulous collection of antique pottery, both for interior and the garden. As I traveled through Spain choosing my pieces, I thought about the client seeking to accessorize with authenticity while keeping scale and budget in mind.” An extensive collection of signed Robert Kuo Japanese colorful Peking glass vases in all shapes and sizes is also a bold find when visiting Relics. This 17th Century technique bring an abstract accent to any room. With the success of Relics in Phoenix, springs new life to a future location in Scottsdale, which is in the works for Harris this year.

and strokes of innovation. Ownby Design is a highly sought after interior design firm in the heart of Scottsdale. An industry leader, Ownby’s mission is to deliver a flawless product that is a true reflection of the client’s vision, striving to transform everyday living spaces into one-of-a-kind indulgences. Ownby uses a fusion of minimalism and lavishness coupled with a commitment to detail and budget-saving efficiency to create an oasis for each client. Principal Designer Claire Ownby and her team have been recognized with numerous industry and community awards for residential designs in both Arizona and the Hawaiian Islands, by continually delivering beautiful and functional spaces that reach beyond expectations. Claire received her education in Interior Design from Arizona State University and Scottsdale Community College. While serving in apprenticeships with Scottsdale based residential and commercial design firms, Ownby rediscovered her talent and passion for luxurious interiors. She formed Ownby after finishing an internship with a custom home builder who combined architecture and interiors during the height of the housing boom of the early 2000s. Being given the opportunity to run several large scale projects, she was able to build credibility and start her own firm with ease.

ingredients + Prep
Depending on what you order, you may need some of your own supplies. When you select your meals, think about what you will need to cook the food in and if any other kitchen utensils would be helpful. Have them ready to go so you don’t have to make any last-minute trips to the store, defeating the purpose of getting your box delivered! Look over the prep times and cook times to ensure you won’t be rushed, and have fun! If the meals are foods you would enjoy reheated, you could do all of your cooking the day you get the box to meal prep for your week, or you can just store the ingredients to the other meals in your fridge and cook them throughout the week.

If you’re a little less-experienced in the kitchen, meal kits are great for learning! Read the instructions carefully before you get started so you don’t feel frazzled while the heat is up high, and take your time. Gobble is great for beginners because all of the meals are prepped for you and can be cooked in 15 minutes with just one skillet. If you want to learn how to do more plant-based cooking for your health and the environment, Purple Carrot makes it easy to enjoy delicious meals and not even miss the meat. If you are a more seasoned chef, feel free to take your own spin on the recipes and add some extra flavor or swap out ingredients to make it perfect for your palate. If you know what you want to make and have your own recipes already, Imperfect Foods is a nice choice because you select all of the individual ingredients yourself. You can help eliminate food waste, use organic, high-quality ingredients and save money all at the same time— without leaving your house.
