GIVING BACK

UNITED WAY U N I T E S COMMUNITY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC HAS THE WORLD NAVIGATING UNPRECEDENTED WATERS. Millions of people are self-quarantined at home and reading more news than usual. But, between the news updates, there are stories that share small ways in which people are showing up for one another. If looking for a way to spread hope, and perhaps ease a heavy heart, there are several ways to help. Many organizations are directly involved with COVID-19 relief, but emergency response and health care organizations aren’t the only nonprofits that need support. The coronavirus pandemic is causing unusual struggles for everyone and all nonprofit organizations are still working hard to make a positive impact on their unique missions. The COVID-19 Response Fund was formed by the The United Way of Greater Nashville to quickly and effectively address the health and economic challenges of this virus and to address the health and economic impact on neighbors. Nashville Mayor John Cooper convened a group of government, business and philanthropic partners to form a COVID-19 Response Fund, which is rapidly deploying resources to community-based organizations, and getting the money to where it is needed most. At the time this article was written, the fund had raised almost $4 million. Corporations, local foundations (such as the Nashville Predators Foundation) and local members of the community are to thank for their generous donations. Donations now are decreasing and the need is growing. Some of the funding agencies have thousands of people on wait lists to receive help. People need basics: rent, groceries and childcare to survive, or work themselves. “As long as we can continue to raise more funds, United Way will continue to serve the community and distribute funding to the agencies on the ground helping our neighbors in need,” says Brian Hassett, president and CEO of United Way of Greater Nashville. “Now more than ever, we need those who have the ability to help others to step up and give whatever they can.” To make a donation, visit NashvilleResponseFund.com or text NashvilleUnited to 41444; 100% of the fund goes to nonprofits to help individuals impacted by COVID-19. 10

get yo u r look 1. Expand an outdoor entertainment area with tall shrubs for privacy and an intimate vibe, along with a calming, mobile water feature or actual fountain. Couple that with an outdoor fireplace or fire pit. 2. Punctuate an organized, outside grilling space with a swimming pool and wrap-around deck as a wonderful place to chill out; add plenty of comfortable lounge chairs. 3. Use colored gravel to frame concrete slabs for flooring in a space shaded by a dark, wood pergola and luscious green paradise of shrubs. 4. Invest in upscale appliances, regardless of the size of outdoor space, to increase the personal use of the space each time; examples: an oven, a gas cooktop, a wine cooler, a griddle or a built-in smoker. 5. Create bar-style seating, particularly around a kitchen island type of setup.

whiskey sours The menu should be reflective of your guests’ taste and how you want them to feel. While a signature cocktail may seem a little bit like a wedding, don’t underestimate the power of having large batches of cold drinks mixed up while also stocking the cooler with craft IPAs. Whiskey Sours are easy to whip up, and it doesn’t hurt they are a long-standing Southern tradition. INGREDIENTS + 12 ounces, or 1 large can, Limeade concentrate; retain can as measuring unit. + 6 ounces, or 1.5 cans, of bourbon + 1 to 2 12-ounce beers, or 1 to 2 cans; light beers, lagers or ales work best + Maraschino cherries, orange, lemon or lime slices to garnish DIRECTIONS Combine Limeade, whiskey and 1 beer. Stir. Sample cocktail. Add part or all of second beer to taste. The more beer you add, the less sweet the sours will be. Whiskey quantity can be reduced to 12 to 14 ounces (1 to 1.25 cans) depending on preference. Stir final combined cocktail and serve over ice with garnish. Keep remainder refrigerated or cold. 48-hour six pack, anyone? ELITE BODY SCULPTURE’S AIRSCULPT GIVES MEN MUCH-NEEDED SUMMER BOOST

WITH THE WORLD SLOWLY REGAINING ITS SENSE OF NORMALCY, MILLIONS OF MEN ARE EMERGING FROM THEIR HOMES, READY TO HIT THE BEACH AND ENJOY SUMMER TO ITS FULLEST. Yet, at the same time, many are also realizing just how much the last few months affected their bodies. Sticking to a diet and exercise routine is hard enough in regular times — throw in an extended period of lockdown, and maintaining that rigid discipline becomes nearly impossible. Even with a consistent workout routine and clean eating, some areas of diet-resistant fat can still pose significant problems. Elite Body Sculpture professionals say they know just how difficult it is to lose stubborn fat. “We’ve helped countless men actively working toward their body goals but still struggling with trouble areas, over the finish line. No matter how confident or successful you may be, having a persistent double chin or belly overhang will take a heavy toll on anyone’s self-esteem. To that end, AirSculpt was designed to transform patients immediately while avoiding the harsh hallmarks of traditional treatments like liposuction,” says Elite Body Sculpture Founder and CEO Dr. Aaron Rollins.

ARTICLE JENNIFER DOWNS 48

Brentwood Lifestyle | June 2020

After witnessing the damage these antiquated treatments inflicted, Aaron sought a way to sculpt patients dramatically while avoiding abrasive tools, such as needles and scalpels. Liposuction uses a blunt tool moving in a cheese grater-like motion to scrape fat cells from the body, with minimal finesse, if any. “Our patented technology, by contrast, gives surgeons a degree of precision and control unparalleled in the body contouring world. AirSculpt removes unwanted fat cells with a tool so fine that we only require an incision the size of a No. 2 lead (the lead, not the pencil). For men reluctant to hit the beach due to a nagging “Dad Bod” or “Beer Belly,” 48-Hour Six Pack can provide just what they are looking for,” Aaron explains. Avoiding the use of risky general anesthesia, he says AirSculpt removes the fat hiding patients’ abs, waists, and obliques while they’re wide awake. Using local, rather than general anesthesia allows their surgeons to maneuver their patients as deemed necessary during treatment, enabling them to delicately sculpt the exact results men expect, 360 degrees around the body. “A mere two days after receiving AirSculpt, you’ll be relishing life with a newly sculpted stomach, hence the name 48-Hour Six Pack,” he adds. Patients can return to work or hit the beach with that coveted six-pack as soon as two days afterward, with the only sign left behind being a freckle-sized scar, Aaron says. Beyond the abdominal area, he says men commonly receive AirSculpt for help eliminating double chins. The submental area is a prime region for fat buildup, and as most people believe having a crisp, sharp jawline can Before

After

make or break one’s entire complexion. “Unfortunately, due to genetics, some men are born with extra chin fat, while others lose their defined and youthful-looking jawline as they age,” Aaron says. AirSculpt contours a chiseled chin, permanently refining and bringing balance to the face. “Our surgeons create tiny entryways under the chin and behind the ears, meaning they remain out of sight and leave no sign of a procedure. Because the face has such a substantial impact on a man’s overall look, AirSculpt often leaves patients looking 10 pounds lighter,” states Aaron. He says the procedure only takes just 20 minutes, and simultaneously helps tighten skin. With Father’s Day quickly approaching, Aaron says the gift of AirSculpt can be a seamless solution to bridge the gap between where a body is and where someone wants it to be. stumbled upon in the Franklin community.

Through motorcycles, he found himself in a network of musicians, artists, producers, actors and photographers who were all curious and constantly reaching out to him about the motorcycle world. Most did not have the knowledge to find what they want and make an educated motorcycle purchase with confidence. Dustin grew up in motocross, which later developed into road racing. He is a licensed pro racer in AMA, WERA, AHRMA. As a three-time, national champion who has more than three decades in the motorcycle industry, his knowledge and firsthand experience is a natural fit for guiding those who are interested in building, buying or selling a motorcycle. In short, Velo Moto is a motorcycle matchmaker for the greater Nashville area. If a client gives Dustin a genre of bike in which they’re interested, he can find it or build it. Dustin also has helped artists, such as Jeremy Camp, sell his collection. Motorcycles, such as the ones in the photos here, is the genre of motorcycle Dustin personally gravitates toward due to his racing history: a hybrid of “flat track” and “cafe racer” and built on an 883R HD Sportster platform. This bike speaks to one of the demographics to which he caters. They are a 30-something hipster who have new money and want a bespoke motorcycle that won’t be found in a superstore. When they pull up to Starbucks, there will not be three versions of their motorcycle already there. The brick-and-mortar Velo Moto vision will be in the same vein. A moto boutique with a small collection of bespoke motorcycles and riding gear not found in a superstore. Jackets, boots, gloves, helmets ALL from small craftsmen in the industry. This shop will be a community experience/destination. When buying a motorcycle from Dustin, one becomes a part of the VM family. Rides and events, such as the “Distinguished Gentlemen’s Rid,” “Cut & Shave” nights and the like, will all culminate at Velo Moto. CityLifestyle.com/Brentwood 53

MANY PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES GIVE BACK TO THEIR COMMUNITY AND THE WORLD IN A VARIETY OF WAYS. Some volunteer at local charities. Others launch fundraising events to raise donations for a particular cause. One thing they all share is the joy that comes from being a part of something bigger than themselves. The Nashville Predators Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) charity organization, and their mission is to build philanthropic partnerships within the community to successfully leverage the unique assets and skills of their entire organization to improve the lives of youth and their associated families. In the month of April, the Nashville Predators Foundation, empowered by SmileDirectClub (the “Predators Foundation”), distributed its largest-ever one-time donation program, with grant distributions totaling $700,000. Through the 2020 allocation, a broad array of Nashville and Middle Tennessee nonprofits received a record-high 168 grants. In total, the Predators Foundation has now provided $7.2 million in grants since its inception in 1998. From the moment the COVID-19 pandemic began to affect the Nashville community, the Predators were right there to find ways to help. Eat With Us and Feed The Front Line Nashville did the same, and now, the two organizations have paired up to continue providing meals to those who deserve it most during these times. Feed The Front Line feeds the hardworking, whose healthcare professionals who are working day in and day out to fight COVID-19

and support local Nashville restaurants and their employees. The organizations, nonprofits, institutions, community members, fans, individuals, kids and funds (they even donated to the Fund created by United Way) that The Nashville Predators support is endless. “I am a huge believer in giving back and helping out in the community and the world…I believe that the measure of a person’s life is the affect they have on others,” says Steve Nash, retired eight-time NBA All-Star. Well said, Steve. And, gratitude to The Nashville Predators Foundation! For more information about the foundation or to donate go online to NHL.com/Predators/Community/Predators-Foundation. The FADE

+

what it is There are many different types of fades, but ultimately a fade haircut is one that tapers in length the further down you go on the back and sides, meaning it isn’t trimmed to just one standard length all around. The level of fade (low, mid or high) depends on what point the shortest part of the hair begins to fade into a longer length. ASK FOR Taper fade, low fade, mid fade, high fade or skin fade

The man bun + what it is This popular style is good for many types of hair as long as you have a lot of it. You’ll need length in the front, back and sides generally long enough to at least brush your shoulders. KEEP IT CLEAN Be sure to keep your sideburns and neckline trimmed even as your hair grows out.

The quiff

+ what it is Closely related to the pompadour, the quiff haircut requires longer hair in the front and shorter hair in the back. The longer hair in the front is brushed upward and back from the forehead and away from the face. This look can be sleek and shiny for a classic look or texturized and matte for a modern take. ASK FOR Short sides and a long textured top. Be sure enough hair is left on top to brush back instead of standing straight up.
