LOWER SPEED LIMITS FOR MIDTOWN After years of planning, the City of Atlanta is implementing a Vision Zero policy to reduce traffic deaths, serious injuries and crashes. The new legislation includes a citywide ordinance lowering the default speed limit on Atlanta roads to 25 miles per hour. In 2019, speed contributed to 54 percent of the 73 traffic fatalities recorded. Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms solidified the city’s Vision Zero policy last month. Her proposal was unanimously approved by Atlanta City Council. “We envision Atlanta’s transportation network to

Annette Joseph
Annette Joseph’s years in Italy revealed this truth: Italy, in all its multifaceted, glorious history and culture has to be experienced in full. Over almost three decades, Italy has fed, entertained, confused, excited, lured, promised, lied, satisfied, occasionally disappointed, and utterly enchanted her. She’s left, but can’t stay away—she’ll always return. Always. Just like a beloved partner...Italy is My Boyfriend will take you through the journey of finding love, life, and a sense of home. While often times a lonely, challenging place, never once did the love for this special place waiver. See how one very determined lady finds her dream place in the Tuscan sun. Annette Joseph lives half of the year in Italy and is an expert on entertaining, cooking, and styling. She regularly appears on NBC’s Today and Martha Stewart Living Radio. Her recipes and party ideas have been featured in Better Homes and Gardens, Epicurious, MSN, The Huffington Post, Southern Living, and Woman’s World, among others. Currently Annette conducts creative retreats and workshops at La Fortezza teaching styling, photography, painting, and food-centric workshops. La Fortezza is a medieval fortress in northern Tuscany she and her husband painstakingly renovated for three years. On twenty- seven acres, the property has a large kitchen garden, rose garden, and vineyard, as well as a newly-planted olive grove.
ITALY IS MY BOYFRIEND - A MEMOIR is her third book.

PATRIOTIC PORCH DESIGNS
FREEDOM'S DECOR RED, WHITE, AND BLUE IS SPRINGING UP EVERYWHERE FROM WINDOW FRONTS TO FASHION AS INDEPENDENCE DAY FEVER ONCE AGAIN TAKES HOLD. It’s not unusual to pause this time of year and remember the freedom we have and how it was obtained, but with the path we have all had to walk this year, freedom seems to have taken on an even greater meaning. Displaying American pride is something that never goes out of style and one of the easiest places to show off our love for our country is the front porch of our home. This patriotic look doesn’t have to be limited to the month of July, however; it can become a true American tradition that lasts all summer long. There are so many ways to spruce up your porch to celebrate the holiday or to create a lasting, classic all-American look. These ideas can work for both those who like to go all out with decorating or those who prefer subtler touches. Regardless of personal taste, the staple colors of a patriot porch are red, white, and blue, and the most common patterns of stars and stripes come from Old Glory herself. Make use of all the things around you-red flowers in white planters, blue and white gingham pillows, or mini figurines holding a flag or dressed in those symbolic color. Hang up red, white, and blue banners along porch rails or mount an eyelet to display a larger flag. Create unique items like wreaths to hang on the front door; grab some paint and old pieces of wood to make your own outdoor artwork ; gather items from around the house in those patriotic colors and group them together on outdoor benches and steps. There is no correct or incorrect way to present your American pride when it comes to adorning your porch and this is the perfect opportunity to freely express the freedom we all have!

“LET’S BE THERE FOR EACH OTHER, TAKE AS MUCH TIME AS WE NEED, AND STILL BELIEVE IN EACH OTHER AND OUR COMMUNITY.” + Remember that you are not in this alone. Perceived financial “failure” is one of the leading causes of debilitating stress, and it adversely impacts our health, relationships and overall wellness in damaging ways. It’s never too late, or too early, to tackle financial discomfort. The road to financial resilience starts here. And finally, one of my favorite books on resilience is Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience and Finding Joy by Sheryl Sandberg and Adam Grant. They wrote the book together after Sheryl’s husband, Dave Goldberg, died suddenly and left her grief stricken and unable to function. Sheryl learned that resilience is the key to overcoming life’s challenges and dealing with its inevitable uncertainty. We will recover, Midtown, and we’ll be stronger and better than ever. Let’s be there for each other, take as much time as we need, and still believe in each other and our community. #midtownstrong 34
