touch with what may really be going on for them under the surface. The work I do focuses on helping clients tap into their inner wisdom and strength and bring them into their authentic truth and self. As a parent, wife, husband, and even more accurate…as a human, it is impossible not to get burnt out, overwhelmed, upset, disappointed, and frustrated. Part of my job is not only creating a safe space for that energy, but really welcoming it, because under all of these big emotions there is insight, wisdom, and goodness waiting to come out. When we try to stuff these emotions or bypass them, not only do they come out sideways, we really miss the opportunity to connect with the part of ourselves under it. In the connection to ourselves in this honesty, we then can connect with others in a deeper way. My hope is not to fix, heal, or change my clients but to help them connect with their inner wisdom. I will help them build a container big enough to hold all the emotions, ride all the waves, and to allow them the capacity to hold space for their children, friends, and partners to do the same. When we allow ourselves to feel the feelings, we enter a new dimension of life, one that is richer, fuller, and deeper. 18

WHILE JOSEPH EPSTEIN WAS MEANDERING THROUGH THE GWANGJANG MARKET AREA OF SEOUL, IN SEARCH OF AN UNDERGROUND VINYL RECORD STORE, HE PASSED BY A SCRIPT “LOVE” BULB IN A NEARBY LIGHTING STORE. His first thought was how cool it looked and that he’d never seen anything quite like it, not even in Los Angeles where he was living at the time. So he decided to bring it back from his travels and show it to his brother, Jason, in Westport, CT. As art enthusiasts, with design, technology, and direct e-commerce backgrounds between them, they knew immediately that they couldn’t pass up the opportunity to share such exquisite and unique lighting in the U.S. No holds barred, they launched Shine On You Crazy as a means of crafting beautiful spaces infused with calmness and positive energy. And because every environment deserves that special sparkle. YOU’RE BROTHERS—HOW IS TO WORK WITH FAMILY? Joseph: We already work together in another family business, creating dental products in a direct-model, so this is a fun new brand and a puzzle for us. It feels like an extension of that business in how we work, yet it’s exciting to explore a very different realm and a wildly different group of people. TELL US ABOUT THE FUN WORDS AND SHAPES OF THE BULBS. Joseph: We went big, warm, and bold on our first collection. “Love,” “Dream,” and “Hello” are all positive, inviting, and inspirational singular words that have so many uses and meanings depending on the application of where you put the bulb. As a unique housewarming gift, you can say so much that’s outside of the box. Once we started getting into the types of bulbs we wanted to manufacture, we saw options that made our head spin. The diamond and black bulbs reminded me of playing rock shows at Pete’s Candy Store and other small venues in NYC and felt like something I’d want in my recording studio. WHAT SPACES ARE BEST FOR THESE BULBS IN A HOME OR OFFICE? Joseph: They work for home, office, and for retails spaces as well. I have two XL Pineapple Bulbs in my bathroom and they emit the most beautiful warm light. Every coffee shop and clothing store needs to upgrade their bulbs. Jason: My wife, Anne, and I installed the large globe bulbs all over our home and we love the way they upgraded our space. I spent many years in retail and have a passion for food & hospitality. I think they’re perfect for restaurants and retail stores that want a great vibe. WHAT’S NEXT? PLANS TO EXPAND? IS THE NAME A NOD TO THE PINK FLOYD SONG, “SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND?”

AUGUST BRINGS US RISING TEMPERATURES, MAKING IT THE BEST TIME TO FIRE UP THE GRILL AND EAT LOTS OF FRESH PRODUCE. I sat down with Chris Geideman of Crew Restaurant to find out how he brings home restaurant quality meals to his family. After two decades in the restaurant and three kids at home Chris knows how to put together that will please diners of all ages. He suggests starting with some edamame hummus and a pitcher of virgin sandia cola (add some gin to the adults glasses). While everyone is snacking it’s time to make chicken milanese on the grill.

CHICKEN

MILANESE INGREDIENTS + chicken breast cut thin and pounded out evenly + olive oil, salt & pepper + mustard, use your favorite + regular or panko bread crumbs if breading chicken (optional) + favorite vinaigrette from the fridge + arugula (or your favorite greens from your garden), cherry tomatoes, freshly chopped or shredded basil

+ grated parmesan cheese

METHOD Whisk together your mustard, oil, and salt and pepper. Coat your chicken breast in the mixture. At this point, you can grill it for a healthy dinner, or coat the chicken in bread crumbs & fry for the traditional recipe. Assemble by putting greens, tomato & basil in a bowl. Mix vegetables with vinaigrette, place over chicken, top with grated parmesan, and enjoy.

26

Greenwich Lifestyle | August 2020

WHEN YOU SEE YOUR CHILD STRUGGLING, WHAT DO YOU ENCOURAGE HIM OR HER TO DO? Ask for help. When you’re struggling yourself as a mother, what do you do? Pretend like everything is okay? Emily Watson, founder of the new online platform MyNestwell, believes that as women, we need to start telling ourselves the same things we tell our children. A few years into trying to start her own family, Emily realized that she couldn’t keep doing the same thing and expecting different results. She admits, “I grew up in a family of ambitious, independent women. I learned that you pushed through when things got tough.” But when she hit rock bottom emotionally, mentally, and physically during fertility treatment, she figured she had nothing to lose. She cobbled together her own village of maternal wellness providers along with her reproductive endocrinologist—an acupuncturist, therapist, and health coach—many of whom continued to support her throughout pregnancy and postpartum. But she gained more than just extra strength in asking for help. “I discovered that there is a treasure trove of truly remarkable care providers ready to serve other women, to lift them higher in so many unique and beautiful ways,” Emily says. The hard part, however, was finding them. By congregating previously siloed maternal wellness experts and services under one online platform, Emily is reimagining the proverbial village. MyNestwell aims to ease the overwhelm of motherhood, inspire confidence, and build healthier families through educational resources, a robust provider directory, and community events. Women going through motherhood have very unique needs, from trying to conceive, dealing with postpartum pelvic floor weakness, managing the mental load, and transitioning back into a career after baby. MyNestwell connects them to professionals locally and virtually who can guide them through these stages. By breaking down some of the barriers to getting support, Emily hopes to normalize asking for help. “Now that I have my daughter, I want to set a good example for her that you can achieve great things—with a village behind you.”

You’ll connect these to either side of the llama cutouts to enclose your piñata. 2. Glue your strip of cardboard all along the edge of one side of your llama, then glue to the other side. (Be sure to leave a hole you can close up later so you can fill it with your favorite candy!) 3. Starting at the neck, cover the front, back and sides of your llama with white crepe paper, cutting a slit every half inch or so to create the traditional piñata look. 4. Cover all remaining sides of the neck and head with white construction paper, cut to fit your design. 5. Using construction paper, beads, pom poms, tassels, buttons, etc., add some flair to the rest of your llama! Bonus points for incorporating different shapes and textures into your final product.

PARTING THOUGHTS

ROCKS THAT INSPIRE AMY SUDELL IS THE CREATOR BEHIND @ROCKSTHATINSPIRE. When her youngest son was battling cancer they started painting rocks. Amy and her family found it helpful to paint messages of hope, courage, strength and things that would just make you smile. Through all of this our town of Greenwich, CT rallied around them and created several kindness rock gardens. These rock gardens can be found at town hall, a couple of the schools, and even Greenwich Hospital was inspired to start one. Amy continues to paint in honor of her son to inspire others. She is passionate about her rocks and puts a lot of love into each piece. “One kind message at the right moment can change someone’s day, their outlook and their whole life.” - The Kindness Rocks Project
