April. What a wonderful month to reconnect with the Earth and spend some time outside. If you ever needed an excuse to buy yourself a new raincoat and matching boots, you have one now. Go out and explore—maybe get some new Instagram shots a la Singing in the Rain? While you’re out, take a moment to appreciate the gifts our planet gives us each day. How can you show your thanks? Maybe you join a neighborhood cleanup or check out some new, sustainable brands popping up in our local shops. Or maybe you join a local business to plant trees and beautify our public spaces. And this April issue is filled with community stories and ideas to get you in the Earth Day spirit. While you’re out, take a moment to appreciate the gifts our planet gives us each day. We can’t wait to see how you decide to celebrate. Be sure to share your photos with us!

TUCKER'S RESTAURANT EXECUTIVE CHEF, MICHAEL ANDERSON SERVES UP A FAMILY FAVORITE EASTER DINNER
16
Westfield Lifestyle | April 2020
TUCKER’S RESTAURANT HAS BEEN A FAMILY OWNED ESTABLISHMENT SINCE OPENING THEIR DOORS IN 1999. Owner and Executive Chef Michael Anderson, along with his wife, Karen, celebrate the business’s 21st Anniversary on April 15th of this year. “In 1999, Michael resigned as Executive Chef of Chandler’s Tavern. It had been a dream and a goal to create Tucker’s. Michael seized the opportunity to open his own restaurant, that caters to any occasion, based on a user-friendly menu and truly elegant fare,” states Karen. As General Manager, Karen can be found doing “everything but cook,” she laughs. The couple’s two daughters, Paige and Payton, can also be found at Tucker’s, serving up the family tradition. A prominent fixture in Southwick, Tucker’s is known for specializing in Banquets, Business Meetings, Anniversary Parties, Birthday Celebrations, Bridal and Baby Showers, Retirement Parties and many more. Using locally sourced fish and produce when in season, Tucker’s will happily customize your event and provide you and your guests a memorable experience. Stop in and enjoy their lunch and dinner selections or sample the daily specials.

R E D U C E We’re saying goodbye to plastic wrap, Ziploc bags and aluminum foil, and hello to reusable wax food wraps you can wrap around anything your hungry (or full) heart desires. Compare this handmade version to Bee’s Wrap sustainable food storage.

The next time you ask for a plastic straw, grab plastic bags at the grocery store or buy a bottle of water on your way to the gym (we’re all guilty of something!), you should also know that roughly half of the annual plastic production’s lifespan ends after just a single use. And most single-use plastics aren’t even making it to landfills, let alone being recycled. Instead, the equivalent of one garbage truck full of plastic is being dumped into the world’s oceans every minute. Curb your single-use plastic consumption with these reusable counterparts.

*The 1.99% Annual Percentage Rate (APR) is fixed for 12 months. Thereafter the APR becomes a monthly variable rate equal to the Prime Rate as published in the Wall Street Journal on the last business day of the previous month plus a margin of 0.00%. The Prime Rate was 4.75% as of 2/1/2020 and the margin of 0.00% is guaranteed for the life of the loan. The APR will never exceed 18.00% or drop below 4.00% after the first anniversary of the agreement date. Minimum credit line is $10,000 and maximum credit line is $250,000. Closing costs may range from $240.00 to $775.00 and are lender paid. However, if you should pay off and terminate the credit line prior to the third anniversary of the agreement date, you will reimburse the lender for the closing costs that were paid by the bank on your behalf. If you request an independent appraisal, you will be responsible for the cost, which is estimated between $350.00 and $550.00. This offer is subject to change without notice and is available for new lines and owner-occupied, one-to-four-family properties only. All loan applications will be subject to credit acceptance and property approval. Homeowners insurance and flood insurance (if applicable) are required. Ask us about our HELOC programs available for credit lines over $250,000. ** As published in the 2019 Banker and Tradesman’s Massachusetts Banking Choice Awards.

Not only will we have beautiful flowers soon, but it might also cause more symptoms for spring allergy sufferers. Rain can promote plant and pollen growth. Wind accompanying a rainfall can stir pollen and mold into the air, also heightening symptoms. Pollen is fine and it can be carried for great distances through the air current. It also is easily inhaled as it comes in contact with your nose, mouth and nasal passages. Taking your allergy medication should be done well before the first sneeze. We recommend you begin treating two weeks before your symptoms typically surface. There isn't a cure for spring allergies, but there is something close. Immunotherapy, also known as allergy shots, can modify and prevent disease progression.
Life is short. Love what you do.

functional, fun…and earth friendly RETHINKING YOUR PROMOTIONAL PRODUCT PURCHASE
ARTICLE JOHN BARBER
THERE IS SOME DISCUSSION IN THE PROMOTIONAL PROD-
Everything has a life expectancy. At some point,

has some validity. But it is changing, as it must. As one of my clients once said, “It’s the only earth that we have. Why not take care of it?”
Recycled is ideal. T-shirts are now available made
Promotional products, any of those logoed items to promote,
of completely recycled cotton and recycled polyes-

landfill, we are all part of the problem. And you are losing out on the impact that you could have with the item.
Repurposed is good. If your business information has changed, so the pens, pads or shirts no longer identify your organization, there are schools and organizations like Salvation Army who would welcome the donation. By delaying the “disposed of,” we can enhance our earth friendliness. Stainless steel or aluminum water bottles rather than plastic, disposable, bottles. Silicone or bamboo or stainless steel straws instead of plastic or paper. But, at some point, when it must go to the landfill, does it biodegrade? Wood or bamboo, yes. Wheat straw, yes. Plastic, not so much. And new materials are being developed all the time that won’t be unearthed, whole, a century from now. So, when considering your promotional product purchase – or any purchase – think “is it functional?,” “is it fun?” (which will maximize your marketing impact) and “is it friendly to the only earth we have?”
