ARE YOU PLANNING TO BUY A HOME IN 2020? Whether you’re a first-time home buyer or an established homeowner who’s finally ready to build that dream home, Ali Farzaneh, 1st Oklahoma Homes owner and founder, stands ready to help make that happen. Since 2005, Farzaneh and his staff have been custom building homes throughout Cleveland County. The houses range from relatively modest in size—2,100 square feet—to more expansive—6,000 square feet. Prices average $350,000 to $1 million. The majority of people these days, he says, favor either a modern or transitional look, but they have also built a few traditional-style homes. Most all houses built by 1st Oklahoma Homes feature the open concept seen in virtually every HGTV home-building or home renovation show airing today.

their competitors. Another area in which they excel lies is in the area of energy efficiency. All of their homes go through a third-party inspection during construction to ensure everything, from the framing to the insulation, meet industry standards and energy guidelines. The homes also undergo a final inspection to ensure the home’s energy guidelines meet or exceeds those set forth in OGE’s Positive Energy Program or ONG standards. So, are you ready to start building that dream home? 1st Oklahoma Homes can expect the process to take, from start to finish, about six to nine months for a 2,100- to 3,000-square-foot house, somewhat longer for larger homes. “If they can imagine it, we will build it for them,” Farzaneh says. TR AVEL DESTINATION (CONTINUED) A three-night stay at The Hilton Pearl River Hotel will be your pivoting point for the tours and game. On Friday, plan on an early departure to visit West Point before the OU Army game on Saturday for a private guided tour of West Point, which would include museums and the military cemetery. (You cannot tour West Point on game days!) The area around West Point cannot be ignored. A visit and buffet lunch at the historic Thayer Hotel, seated on a hilltop with a commanding view of the Hudson River and the United States Military Academy, complete the visit to West Point. The Thayer Hotel has been a national treasure since opening in 1926. The hotel has been visited by past U. S. presidents and international leaders. Here you will discover a blend of over 200 years of military history. To make the most of your time on Friday, there is still more to see and do. We would board the touring coaches traveling to Hyde Park to visit the Vanderbilt Museum, one of the region’s oldest Hudson River Estates. A onehour tour should give you a visual taste of the life of the wealthy Vanderbilt family. The tour will have some walking and steps to maneuver. If you are not able to keep up with the tour, there are lovely waiting areas where you can still experience the museum. The Vanderbilt Mansion became a national landmark in 1940 and is now owned by the National Park Service. To complete the day, enjoy a buffet dinner at the award-wining waterfront restaurant, Shadows on the Hudson, which is in Poughkeepsie, New York, not far from Hyde Park. MEET HADLEY JERMAN PASSION FOR ART AND MUSEUMS LEADS TO CAREER AS AN ART CURATOR
32
Cleveland County Lifestyle | March 2020
ART HAS ALWAYS BEEN A PART OF LONGTIME NORMAN RESIDENT HADLEY JERMAN’S LIFE. Actually, you’d be right on target if you called art Hadley’s lifelong passion. Hadley credits her parents for fostering her love for art and museums early on. The family often visited museums and made frequent trips to Santa Fe. They also made her a believer in the importance of continuing education: her father was a writer and marketing director for Outreach (which targets adult learners) at the University of Oklahoma, and both parents taught humanities and art history courses in the OU College of Continuing Education (which also targets adult learners). Hadley earned her B.F.A. in visual communication (graphic design) and M.A. in art history from OU, then set out on a career as a graphic designer. In that role, she served as a print designer for OU Outreach, for the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, and for the Sam Noble Museum.

customer service “used to be,” when the customer was right, where the barber and the butcher and the couple who ran the corner grocery knew your name, knew your family, and were legitimately happy to see you. Well, that’s a high standard to meet, but any independent living residence worthy of the name should meet it. Their hiring standards and procedures should be rigorous. And you should know what they are. And, above all, you should feel it the moment you walk in: Are you welcome? When you leave, is someone there to wave goodbye and invite you back?
